Ok for the boat dock, and decent eats. Certainly not going to win a James Beard culinary award anytime soon, but for a restaurant/bar on the Portage lakes this is a-Ok. The scene was, well, interesting; at lunch our table was the only ones that were under-70 years old. The place was half full/half empty. There's a giant mirrored wall to give a larger than life feel to the place. They're good for take away for the maritime customers, typical greasy bar menu. Restrooms were clean, parking spots were tight. Next door there's a pontoon boat rental. I stopped in here with some friends and family on a random Tuesday night. Our bartender (I don't remember her name!) was absolutely fabulous...friendly, but not overbearing, and very attentive. We never had an empty glass in front of us! A little downfall is that $1 beers does not last all night. I think this is a statewide thing and not something with this particular bar...but it did suck! Dietz's Landing has been around the block...several times...a true Portage Lakes institution, it's a fun place where you can sit back and chill with a beer, right on their dock. Now...you're likely to run into hooknasties and hambones...don't let them bother you. Because then you'll miss out on the charm of watching people ride up in their boats for a burger and Bud. Yep, you read that right. You can drive or sail in! I think it's best to keep it simple...order the burger...although, I enjoyed my steak sandwich, which wasn't chopped...the cuts of steak were whole! They had sweet potato fries. Yeah, I guess you can get some wine here. They won't look at you funny. The waitress had some trouble getting our orders right and forgot a few things. But, because we're not assholes, it didn't bother us that much. Sure you can run into hambones (there was a guy who docked, took his shirt off, and sat there for an hour before sailing back off)...but we also ran into friends of my aunt, whom were a big part of my childhood and I hadn't seen in 25 years. Being back in Ohio is fun. Yeah...the four stars might be a bit generous. If you're looking for a great culinary experience, just pass this place on by. Their salads have iceberg. But the beers are cold and the burgs are great. And who's not up for the occasional "sitting on a cool lake and chilling with friends" evening? The answer? No one. read more

The Sunday brunch is to die for. Amazing omlets. Starting at lunchtime, the prices quadruple and I'm left feeling as though its quite a bit overpriced. 11 dollars for six "jumbo" fried shrimp that came from planet Sysco is unacceptable, even though the spicy dipping chili sauce that comes with it is made in heaven. Lunch and dinner food is unremarkable, good, if it weren't overpriced. If there are mediocre waitresses here, I haven't met them. Worse meal of life! Ordered the fried shrimp and fries. Shrimp was burnt popcorn variety ( expected Fan tail for $12) and on requesting cocktail sauce was told they don't have. Overpriced terrible food. Takes forever for food to come out. I ordered what i thought was a steak sandwich, it came out as a cold steak wrap. I still dont know what else was in it besides the steak. I think the steak was a week old steak that one of the chefs brought in from home and cut up into pieces. But its ok, they serve it with potato chips. 13$ at that. Dietz's is one of the only Portage Lakes' bars you can paddle/boat up to during the summertime which does give the place a nice charm. Everytime I've been here though service is always slow and inconsistent. read more

Day bartender didn't know three for three beers we ordered from their beer list. She couldn't find them and didn't know what they were. She walked away while we were ordering, and didn't even know they had a certain soup on special that day. She yelled across the bar to attempt taking our order. This is an "ok" place to go if you're out cruising the lakes and want to stop for a bite to eat, but I wouldn't go out of my way to have dinner (or lunch) here. I ordered the western burger, which was just ok. The burger itself lacked flavor. The queso sticks were really good and the service was great too with upbeat, energetic staff. I think what turned me off the most was catching a glimpse of the carpeting on the stairs...it was absolutely filthy and just needs to be replaced as it's beyond cleaning. A dirty carpet where everyone can see just makes me wonder about the cleanliness of other areas of the restaurant that the general public CAN'T see. read more

Stopped here for dinner..sat for an hour..server came over and said they lost ticket. We did get our very overcooked mozzarella moons that had no mozzarella in them. When spoke to mgr. Absolutely the best place to be on portage lakes! Great friendly service, amazing food, and great atmosphere. Great bands on Friday nights in the summer time- they will even bring your food to your boat! Overall I always love coming here, they go above and beyond to make customers happy- very well priced as well! Must try this place out if your looking for great food and drinks, entertainment, great view and all around just a nice place to be! The view of the lake was great. The food was good, except for the very long hair in my husband's hamburger. The waitress was right there when he was pulling it out. She apologized and got him another burger. Normally I would think they would offer a free appetizer or drink or not charge us for the burger, but neither of those things happened. My boyfriend won a gift card on WNIR and we decided to drive out this past Saturday for lunch. Loved it! We took advantage of the beautiful day to sit outside and watch the boaters and kyakers come and go. The food was wonderful...I chose the spinach, strawberry and walnut salad and the apetizer order of their Maryland crabcakes - He chose the fish bites and a side order of mac and cheese. The crabcakes held up to my Aunt's recipe (yes she's a Marylander and they know their crabcakes!) and my boyfriend raved about both the fish and the mac and cheese - no small accomplishment - he's a picky eater and it has to be good to elicit that type of response. More than reasonably priced menu for the quality of the food - friendly staff and great atmosphere...I'll definetly be back! read more

Dietz's sucks. They advertise that their kitchen is open. I have shown up immediately after Portage Lakes fireworks on several occasions only to find they have closed the kitchen because they are too busy. Mind you they haven't had a ticket since before the fireworks. It is particularly disturbing because I called twice to verify that they would be serving. I have eaten here before and not had a problem, but it seems they can't handle being busy. read more

I am the type of person that likes to give anybody and everybody the benefit of the doubt whenever possible but after eating here and in some cases attempting to eat here five times in the past 6 weeks it has done nothing but gone down hill. I truly feel sorry for some of the staff that really care. The rest of the staff can care less. The meals typically are good, that is if you get served your order within an hour and a half of ordering it. The current management has to go in my opinion as it is not working. Very sad because it is located in a premium location with dockside seating, a location that normally should give you a pleasurable dining experience. Not here! Hated that I had to give this place even one star to write the review! Horrible service!!! We sat outside by the docks and had 5 of us. We ordered our food after waiting 10 minutes, we had ordered salads with our meals which normally you would get them in 5 minutes or so, never got them. After 20 minutes we asked the waitress, she said our food is coming right up. 10 minutes later, she told us ours is the next order up, so sorry. We preceded to watch her bring out 3 other tables orders when we finally said to each other, if she brings out one more order to somebody besides us, we are leaving. Of course, she brought out another one that was not ours, so I walked over and told her we are done and leaving, we offered to pay for our drinks, she said no, don't worry about it and we left and will probably never return. So unless you have plenty of time to waste, don't bother eating here. read more

I ordered tea and waited 30 minutes to receive it. I ordered food and waited 45 minutes to receive it. The fish was soggy and poorly cooked and the fries were appalling. When I complained and spoke to the manager, he was EXTREMELY rude and unsympathetic. The prices are outrageous for the quality of the food. The only pleasant thing about this experience was the waiter; she tried her absolute hardest to make up for the disgustingly slow service and thick skulled manager. read more

I was excited to try Dietz's Landing. The inside is real nice and the menu was awsome. Lots to choose from.But my friends and I could hardly hear our waitress and she was very nice. We finally got our order taken and I was very dissappointed with my fish I ordered. It was so oily I couldnt eat it. My friends were dissappointed also with there oily food also. We live on the lake and try to frequent our local buisneses. Nice to go for a put-put and stop in for dinner. My Wife and I took the boat out and stopped in at Dietz's Thurs 10/04/2012 around 5:30PM, Bottom was closed so we went inside upstairs. They were buisy but not packed..a couple of booths were open and a table. Stood at the front entrance for over 10 min. with no acnowledment that we were even there. So we just left, 3rd time this has happened this summer. What a let down.. read more
