Wanted dinner by the water and this place delivers on the view with multiple decks, each closer to the lake. Menu felt very limited and basic. Someone said there was new owners, no idea. They were out of a lot of the beers, which felt odd for a thursday. I ended up with a rum runner and my husband got some local brew he did not like. Said it was hoppy and bitter. We started with nachos which was just canned cheese, chicken pieces and jalapeño. Chips were a bit stale but we were hungry so we ate it. I ordered the southwest chicken wrap. It was decent but nothing special. It surpringly had little flavor. The "salsa" had no seasoning, nary an onion, jalapeno, cilantro piece or even salt. I was singing "white people taco night" my head. What was amazing was the house made ranch. I would get that by the gallon. Husband had the turkey Cobb, which he said was really good. The food was below average. We came there by boat which was fine they have good docks with plenty of room. We sat outside on Labor Day at lunchtime. Our server came to the table within minutes of our arrival to take our order. After that it went downhill. We got our drinks in about 15 minutes but the sodas were all water and no syrup. I change mine out from Coke to Root-beer , same problem. We left after waiting an hour and twenty minutes. We were told twice it would be right out. It was a waste of 2 hours all and all and we left hungry. Maybe the bar is better but it looks like it's just overcrowded. Small bathrooms and no privacy. read more

Took the LUST Akron promo team to the Upper Deck again last Friday and again it was an awesome experience. Manny delivered great service at the main bar. We had a bomb pepperoni pizza and tried a few of their custom cocktails. The vibe and live music made for a fun evening. We will definitely be returning. read more

As a bar with live music right on Portage Lakes, ample seating, several bars inside and outside, nice friendly staff, fun place with live bands, it is great! On a warm sunny day feels like Florida. Great tables with umbrellas and people of all ages, kids to elders. However, do not go there hungry, as it takes at least one hour (ours took 1.5 hours), saw another wait hour and 15 minutes and still no food when we left). Look at menu online and know few choices of what you'd want to order, then place it right away when waitress first asks what want. The drinks come quickly-no problem there. This is weekend crowd, I do not know about week nights. Note: the food was great when we got it, cheeseburgers and a chicken wrap excellent. This is a local dive bar on the water and checks all those boxes well. Just went on a Friday afternoon in February so it was not crowded. Two indoor bar areas and an unusual layout giving great character. There are 3 outdoor bar areas and a number of patio levels that were not open as it is winter. Has picnic tables outside in the summer. The are docks for your boat. 11 draft handles mostly domestics with a few craft options. A number of bottle options again mostly domestic. Not a dive bar but not a five star chef experience either. It's still bar food not completely made from scratch but not taco bell either. Food is mediocre. A nice place for outside viewing of the lake while watching boats float by while enjoying a burger and or drinks. There are peaceful times and occasional good local bands. Its definitely a seasonal place! As with many places now the service is not top notch, thats not always fault of the servers. There could be more scheduled servers during the summer but great help is hard to find and so are patient customers that dont expect their own personal server to wait only on their table or boat. The servers walk a lot trying there best to get to customers as quickly as they can. Don't be one of those loud customers that try to look like a high roller sucking up a liquid of your choice and buying rounds, then when your tab comes someone in your party wasnt happy about something and you leave a 5% tip. Tip your servers well, they all deserve atleast 20% and don't put blame on the servers if your not happy with food or drink or the restrooms. *Last tip-you can often count on unsupervised kids running around sometimes screaming being obnoxious, bumping into and slowing servers down while adults are doing whatever the adults are doing. Came here after a recent weekend round of golf in the area...wanted to sit outside on a nice weather day but for some reason the patio space was closed. Luckily, we found a booth in the corner so we felt comfortable from a COVID-19 social distancing perspective. Servers were friendly and mostly attentive, took our orders and brought drinks. One small comment...I ordered a glass of tap water and it had a bit of a sulfur taste to it, like well water...might want to skip next time and get a pop, beer or something else. For lunch I ordered the fried buffalo chicken grilled cheese...it was an unusual combo / name given the fact it was listed as a grilled cheese sandwich as it was not actually in the form of what you'd typically expect from a grilled sandwich, but was decent enough containing a piece of fried chicken breast topped with gooey cheeses and tangy buffalo sauce on a Kaiser bun. The onion rings were fried to crispy, but the breading disintegrated as soon as it touched my tongue. With an open patio overlooking the nearby Portage lake, this would be an okay spot to hang out for a bite and a drink while the world sailed by. read more

Only 11 customers and you literally have to ask for service. Not greeted, not asked if I wanted a drink or a menu. Near impossible to get the bartenders attention as they carry on long convos, change trash bags and disappear for breaks. Finally got a beer and a menu. 15 min later I asked if I could order. Was never engaged prior. I hope they have a better trainer soon to up the service game to at least sub par. Update. I was wrong, ordered a grilled chicken wrap. Then they asked grilled or fried. I clarified grilled, eating my fried chicken wrap now and then I'm outta here!! There's a BIG problem with this restaurant/bar that I never paid attention to and I'm going to address it after I review the food. First of all, I love The Upper Deck! I've been here several times and no matter if it's for a night out with friends listening to live music, or it's for a casual lunch while looking out at the lake, it's always going to be a fun time! Let's get to the food first. My kids, my mom, my aunt, my ex-husbeast, and myself went out to lunch here the other day. I ordered the Tidal Wave burger, which is their quarter pound ground chuck burger with a fried crab cake, Swiss cheese and "Boom Boom" sauce. The lettuce, tomato, red onion, and pickle slices come on the side. The bun is nicely toasted. You do not get French fries or any other sides with your burger, but you do get a dill pickle spear. Believe me, you don't need sides! It's so filling, I couldn't even finish it! This burger was delicious, but it was quite salty. I put the veggies provided on it to help balance it out. I tasted the crab cake by itself and it's very buttery and rich. Combined with the Swiss cheese and the "Boom Boom" sauce (which has a kick, but is not spicy), if you didn't put the veggies on, I think it would be almost too much. However, the veggies really helped make the burger complete! My only issue was the saltiness. I happen to like salty food, but if you are watching your salt intake, I would be mindful of ordering this, or I would tell your waitress to pass this info onto the chef. Some of the other meals ordered were the chicken stuffed peppers, which my ex-husbeast enjoyed! I tried a bite and I thought they were very good! They are a bit spicy, so if you are a lover of hot foods, this may be your dish! Two people in our party ordered the Baja Crab Cakes, which are the buttery rich fried crab cakes I spoke about earlier. This dish is balanced out by being placed atop a bed of mixed green and covered with black bean and corn salsa, as well as "Boom Boom" sauce. I tried them, as well, and it was a very tasty dish! I really like the black bean and corn salsa! It adds a nice southwestern flair to the dish. Now that we got the food out of the way, let's have a chat about something that's pretty important. It may not be important to most people, and to be honest, I never thought about it until my mom had to start using a wheelchair. There is not a single handicapped parking space in the parking lot. Additionally, there is no disability access whatsoever. My mother struggled to get up the stairs to the only entrance available for us to dine at this restaurant. If she was unable to get out of her wheelchair, we would not have been able to eat there. For those amongst us that are absolutely confined to a wheelchair, you will be unable to eat here. The Upper Deck is violating the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which requires restaurants to be handicapped accessible. A restaurant is a place of public accommodation and is subject to the ADA's accessibility standards. This information may not be important to you, the consumer, right now. But you never know when it will be. You never know what could happen to you or your friends or a member of your family that would require wheelchair access to the entrance or a handicapped designated parking space. And they say most people end up with some type of disability, whether temporary or permanent, whether caused by illness, injury, or old age. At some point in time this will matter to you, and it's important for you to be able to have the freedom to maneuver around public spaces. In any case, if you are able-bodied and you don't know or love anyone that has a disability, and you don't mind giving your money to a business that violates the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), they do have good food and fun events! I'm giving them two stars because I feel that it's important that everyone should have equal access to public spaces and I should not have to break my back to get my mother and her wheelchair up the stairs in order for us to have a nice lunch together. Follows Social Distancing: YES Where The Boardwalk is on the first floor and is counter service, The Upper Deck is their sit down service restaurant upstairs. They follow all the same social distancing protocols as The Boardwalk downstairs. Signs everywhere telling you to stay 6 feet apart. Stickers on the ground showing you where to stand. When you go to our table they installed plexiglass between all the tables along the wall so you are completely separate from other guests. They also have a curtain at the table you can draw to close your table off from the restaurant if you want as well. All staff is wearing masks. This restaurant follows good social distancing protocols. Had dinner here last week and was not disappointed. I ordered the lobster bisque and it was just as good as when I had it at The Boardwalk for lunch earlier in the week. It is excellent with large pieces of lobster. For dinner I ordered the perch and walleye dinner. 3 large pieces of fried perch and 1 large filet of fried walleye. Perch was tender and sweet while the walleye was just ok. I think I prefer walleye pan fried to deep fried as it just didn't quite do it for me. Fries and coleslaw are standard. Overall, I'd recommend this place. read more

I was in put in bay for my bachelorette party and on day two, after a long day we went to Upper Deck for lobster bisque. Sounds gross right? Wrong! I had lobster bisque poutine and my friends had the lobster bowls. Everything was so good! The only reason I'm giving them a 4 is because the place is way over priced. The lobster bisque is decently priced, but other items on their menu didn't really seem worth it. Service was great, they had our table of 6 our in no time. If I ever find myself in put in bay again I would go back for some delicious lobster bisque soup! read more

One of the better places to go during the day on Portage Lakes. They always have good beer specials, live bands, and events going on. It's always nice to sit back and relax after being on the lake. I haven't been here in over a year or so and was always a fan of the food. I went this past weekend and wasn't how I remembered it. A very fun dive. This is not high class and it's not always speedy but it's very fun. It's right on the water so you can boat or kayak right up to it. There's a small inside but the highlight is the deck and lower patio seating. They have good drink specials and live music on occasion. I'd recommend for a nice summer day.
