Early last year I had my first visit to Digestive Health Associates (Abigail Mitzel) for evaluation and future colonoscopy procedure with Dr. Gilles. She was extremely professional, caring and my appointment was very successful. My entire experience, from office check-in to my visit with Abigail, was very efficient and professional. I was very pleased. Unfortunately, throat cancer intervened and my colonoscopy was put on hold for several months. Once my cancer was successfully treated, Dr. Gilles performed my colonoscopy Dec. 2025 - He was absolutely brilliant!). I was extremely pleased with the entire process and results. I am currently seeing Abigail and Dr. Gilles again for possible esophageal cancer and other stomach issues. I feel blessed and confident that I am in trustworthy hands and care with Abigail, Dr. Gilles and the entire DHA Team. I highly recommend their services! Thank you! read more

I came in today to find out what's going on with all these heart burn issues I've been having for a while now. Check in was rather painless and not too difficult and the receptionist was rather pleasant and kind. She was patient and helpful with me as I gathered all of my necessary medical information for her. Than shortly after I was lead in to the room and the dr came in and she was great! She was quick and efficient, she was great at giving me my options for going forward and pointing out the options that she recommends! The appointment was quick and easy, the people were all very patient and kind and helpful with making sure I understood everything, and they took great care of me! I had a preventative colonoscopy here 5 years ago. I had a couple of polyps. Now 5 years later I scheduled another preventative colonoscopy. My insurance covers one colonoscopy a year 100%. I was told this is not a preventative colonoscopy because I had polyps 5 years ago. So I have to pay $310.00. This is fraud. I will not be going back again. read more

I have had a great experience with K. Tennert APRN at this practice. She is forward thinking, and communicates plans and ideas with me. I find that she is diligent and up to speed when she walks into the room. She has made necessary referrals to obtain accurate diagnosis of what is going on. I was happy with the staff and service, however trying to contact their billing department is a nightmare. I called several times informing them that they had not billed my third insurance. The initial care was in Jan. 2025 and I was statements came every month. In Oct. 2025 I gave in and paid the bill. Then I get notified by my third insurance also paid the bill in Oct. 2025. I waited four months for their accounting to issue my refund. I called in Jan. 26 and was told that both payments were posted in Oct. 25. And that they would issue a refund to me. I called one month later and was told that it was awaiting upper-level review, which can take 45 to 60 days. I ask to speak to a supervisor and was told that they had no way to contact a supervisor. That changed when I indicated that I was recording. I was put on hold for an hour just to be told that they were severely underman and that was the reason for the refund delay. So here we are four months later waiting for a refund that should have been issued when the double payments were credited. If you call the local billing department their recording says leave name and phone number and they will get back to you within 48 hours. read more

I've gone here before for the my screening colonoscopies. When I called to schedule my next one, I was told it was required that I meet with a doctor before I could schedule my colonoscopy. I explained that I just had a physical and labs, and didn't understand the need for yet another appointment where they would probably just ask me questions. I cancelled and called Digestive Health Associates and was able to schedule my colonoscopy - no additional appointment needed. Just another way to waste time and money for a healthy patient. Oh, and spent over 30 minutes on the phone scheduling that appointment and now trying to cancel, on perpetual hold! read more

5 minutes ago New I'm giving them a four stars because I love Frankie. I will say though that I called him this morning and told him I wasn't feeling well and had a bad cough. They informed me that since I hadn't called in 24 hours in advance I was gonna probably be charged the $75. That seems a little ridiculous that they would rather have some sick person in their office but I went. This is after them charging me $100 co-pay on my Colonoscopy and my insurance is a preferred provider. When I called them on it, and informed my insurance company, it was immediately refunded. I wonder how many people don't do that because they don't realize they don't have to pay that. Always watch your EOB. And my final comment is that for people who like to charge so much, they might want to think about getting waiting room furniture where every piece of poultry isn't torn and then getting their floors cleaned. I was referred to digestive health and then they refused to see me due to a genetic disease. I HAVE NO DOCTORS. They are cowards and doctors that just want bread and butter cases. Greedy greedy chickens. They hung up on me as well when I tried to nicely explain why I needed a doctor. Ruptures are common. I'm appalled at these cowards and rude doctors and staff. Never ever would I recommend this place. If they can't even help here how good are they ? How much help? Well first impressions are not good the scheduling person was absolutely rude and argumentative and I empathetic to my situation and seemed to purposely schedule me as far out as possible before you folks suggest go to er if your bleeding like you are I already did that that's what started my journey that's more of a nightmare situation now and has me thinking wow what situation for a person to be in considering I already was suppose to be scheduled and had a procedure at the other gastro Dr but they didn't take my insurance this I needed to go here that was back in March or April meanwhile it's gotten much worse bordering on scary and im waiting months months and it's for the office visit it's not even addressing the issue I was told by emergency room to do this because of something on my CT scan or something I never imagined it would turn out to be a nightmare just to get medical help here in Nevada. I started getting colonoscopies 15 years ago d/t a family hx of colon cx. My first two were great experiences, great customer service. After my last one, they said I didn't get cleaned out good enough and to come back in three years instead of 5. Prior to this they always reached out to me to let me know that the five years were up and to schedule the procedure. Easy-peasy. This time, nobody reached out. I called to see if the three years had passed and it had so I tried to schedule. They said I needed an office visit this time. I live 3 hours away. So I made an appointment for three months later. Then I had an family emergency and had to reschedule so that pushed the office visit out another three months. Today they called because the provider is out of the office on my scheduled day and now it's another three months down the road. Am I crazy or is this not very good customer service. I am not a new patient. Medicine is sure not what it used to be. I am very disappointed and frustrated and told them to forget it. I will reach out to GI consultants or go to SLC or Twin Falls. read more

An absolutely unhelpful, non-responsive nursing and administrative staff. I asked some very direct questions that were not in the least difficult. In response I got a lot of empty Kamala Harris Word Salad answers full or zero information. I was not allowed to go back to see my grandson before his procedure and when asked if I could after he was out of his procedure I was told they'd wheel him out to my car. My request to talk to the doctor was denied. He was "busy in the back". The information I needed would be in a written report that my grandson would have. Time for a new doctor--and we will never come back. I advise to you to steer clear of this unprofessional, unhelpful, secretive institution. I am an established patient for several years. Last week I had pain and bloating every time I ate. My constipation was worse than usual. I called to come in and see Christina. I was told I owed $195. bill and could not come in until I paid it. I offered to pay it when I came in,and they said no, it went to collection, I had to contact them first. Meanwhile, I'm having some severe symptoms. I asked when I could come in if I called and paid, and the scheduler said February. I told her I was having real symptoms, but that doesn't seem to matter. My husband has been dealing with an issue this group was supposed to fix for over a YEAR! They repeatedly cancel and move appointments and procedures by months at a time. They don't care how much pain you're in either. He had a 4th procedure this past Monday for the same issue they cannot fix. They wrote a prescription after but the pharmacy cannot fill it because it was written wrong and now no one will return phone calls to us OR the pharmacy! A word of advice to the staff here. The sign in your office that states abusive behavior to staff will not be tolerated speaks volumes about your shitty service. If you are pushing a patient, a SICK person to the point that they are yelling and screaming in your office the problem is YOU not them! Any professional should be embarrassed to post a sign like that. Also, I filed a complaint against your practice with the Nevada Depa of Health and Human Services today. My fiancé received a positive cologuard test. His family doctor sent in an urgent referral. We never heard from Digestive Health Associates. When we called, they said they didn't have the referrral, which I guess isn't their fault but still frustrating. The appointment was fine but we didn't get any paperwork except the diet suggestions. The issue is that it's been weeks and NO ONE has called us to schedule the colonoscopy and endoscopy. We have ZERO info and we have left a message (the message service states not to leave more than one message), we sent a message through the patient portal, nothing back. No one that has gotten potentially life changing news should have ZERO communication from their doctor. This is maddening. We just want to know when the colonoscopy and endoscopy are scheduled. That's not an outrageous request by any means. Please contact us back ASAP. read more

They are unable to ask my pharmacy to rush my prescription. I was informed that my script for my colonoscopy prep liquid had been sent to my pharmacy when I visited their office. By the end of that week, it was clear my pharmacy had not received the prescription. I phoned that Friday morning and faxed that afternoon; I asked them to inform the pharmacy that the order needed to be filled no later than Monday afternoon. I phoned again Monday. I never spoke to a person but each time the voice mail system connected me to another voice mail where I again left my message. C from DHA let me know that she re-sent the script. I visited my pharmacy's website, which informed me that the script would be ready Tuesday afternoon. This was useless to me as my colonoscopy was scheduled for Tuesday morning. I phoned C and she wanted me to contact the pharmacy. I told her I am not the prescriber and I expect her to call. I am unclear as to whether she was unwilling or unable to do anything except send the prescription electonically, despite my attempts to gain gain clarity on this. I asked if she could add an electronic message to the electronic script telling them to rush. I told her she can send it to any pharmacy that can have the script ready within four hours. I was prepared to pay cash if necessary. She sent an electronic script to another pharmcy that I named when she would not tell me where I can obtain the script on time. My attempt to amend *their* failure required more time and effort than any reasonable person should be willing to accept. I phoned the surgery (Digestive Health Center at a different address and phone number) and their answering system directed me to another voice mailbox, where I cancelled my appointment and told them I want no further dealings with them. The outgoing message informed me that they will "respond within twenty four to forty eight hours." That is the type of response I had come to expect. It's possible everything goes very well there when there is no failure in the system but it's a defective system if there is no way to to intervene when things do not go according to plan. read more

My husband has a chronic disease and has been seeing DHA for over 8 years. We switched insurances 2 years ago and all of a sudden they have decided that they can't see him, even though he is in network, because his primary care physician referred him over (per our insurance rules to have a referral although he is an established patient). The primary care physician is out of network. What kind of backwords thinking is happening now. My husband is literally screwed. Thank you DHA and Aetna insurance. We were referred to this place by an ER room doc @ St Mary's. They never called us back to schedule. We are facing some serious issues, but our problems are not theirs. Multiple calls, but they cannot be bothered. We called the ER to get referred to a responsive Specialist, but they we just mean and rude as you'd expect. Unreal. You can never get in. Even when the condition you have is urgent, they still make you wait for at least a week before coming in. You know, the type of issue where the physician says, "if this occurs call us and we will get you in right away." Yeah, that doesn't hold water with these people. Unbelievable. They just keep you hanging and don't care one iota about your issue. YOU have to call for cancellations and then, of course, they act irritated when you call more than twice). They basically just herd you in like cattle. Furthermore, my spouse is having a flare up and we find out that the "Dr." had her on the incorrect meds (they are not effective for her condition) and that her past history showed an issue that he never mentioned to us. No one should go to these people for medical health or testing. In Reno, they are non responsive setting up appointments and turning around results. We have had a STAT referral sent to them twice and each time they have been unable to find it. They offer no help in resolving the issue or setting up an appointment. Zero sense of urgency. We also had testing done two weeks ahead of surgery, they sent the results to the hospital 11 days after the surgery. They had the bill out the next day. (Though it took months to get them to send it to our insurance even though they had the information.) We had to pay the hospital to repeat the testing due to their poor performance. This is one of the worst heath care providers I've ever been to. My daughter was diagnosed with severe colitis. The physicians assistant we saw wanted to do labs before she started her on any kind of medication. During our next visit, we were berated because the doctor claimed that she had put in a medication for my daughter. my daughter and I looked at each other like she was crazy. Neither of us heard the fact that there was any other medication's. The conversation we both heard was that the doctor would prescribe medication after the bloodwork was complete. Beyond that the office staff is absolutely worthless. They do not answer their phones ever. I've sat in their office waiting room and called the number. No phone rang and nobody was rushing to pick up a phone anywhere. So I asked one of the front desk ladies if that number rang directly to their office and she told me yes. Save yourself a lot of trouble and heartache, and go somewhere else! read more

This is an update for Yelp viewers. This isn't for DHA as they obviously don't read these reviews. If this was my office, I would respond and try to correct misconceptions. Oh....perhaps the negative reviews are not misconceptions. Since my last review where I didn't receive any kind of response, this office has gone from bad to worse. The doctors are behind doors and cannot be reached in anyway. The staff is still rude and be careful as they can lie to justify their means. I finally got an appt with Dr. Gillis for 6 weeks forward. I was having so many issues that they finally had an opening on Monday July 25th. We had planned to be in the Napa Valley for my birthday after spending time in the Bay Area. They called and had an appt for that Monday afternoon on my birthday so we drove home instead of going to Napa. I asked if he had any other openings in that week. The staff member said no, he was out for the rest of the week. (Who works Monday and then leaves for the week.....just sayin'). After waiting for almost 1 hour I was told that Dr. Gillis had an emergency. That may be and I returned home from the Bay Area for nothing, but it seemed strange to me that he also would be out for the rest of the week. I am not sure which is correct but the staff has deceived me in the past so that makes me suspect. They offered to let the nurse practitioner to see me but I was so angry and disgusted after waiting an hour that I said no. Why couldn't they have called me before I drove down from Verdi? I have tried to be patient, but I told them I am not coming back. It appears that this did please them as a couple of days later, their staff in records called and asked if I wanted my records sent to me. I guess I am good riddance. Having owned a furniture store for many years, I am aware of customer service. I just don't know how they can it is so bad. I kind of wish I could go in and fix them as the doctors are probably all pretty good. They just are not worth the work it take to see them. read more

While it often takes a bit of patience to get an appointment scheduled with my doc, PAs and/or NPs are easier to get into for emergent situations. Dr Sheykezdah and Dr Caves before him are the best. Both have been good listeners, patient, and caring. They have a procedure center where I have always been as comfortable as possible considering. GI procedures and prep for them are not much fun but being knocked out and waking up to caring staff helps a lot! I suspect it takes even longer for a new patient to get an appointment, but the docs here are worth the wait, if you possibly can. read more
