Man where do I start ! it just saddens me that I have an amazing medical Nurse Practitioner that I have been seeing since I got diagnosed with Crohn's she take care of me and helps me with so much I am dealing with in this disease I have now for over four years, it's been so hard and such a struggle! But she is so good! So compassionate and so supportive with all the health issues I am dealing with, but the call center ! Horrible! Making appointments! Horrible! Getting seeing sooner ! Horrible! Customer service! Not good! Except for this last time that sweet young lady finally heard my voice and my concern and got me taken care of by my appointment I needed within the three months the practitioner asked to see me in the three months not 9 months like the last time! At times I do want to find another gastroenterologist clinic but I won't for Mary Helmerich! She is Amazing! Everything else they seriously need to work on! read more

A Prime Example of Nevada Healthcare at Its Worst ​If you value your time, money, and quality of life, I strongly advise avoiding GI Consultants in Reno, specifically Jesse Viner and Dr. Harrison. I was referred to this practice for severe post-op complications, including gastroparesis and daily vomiting. Instead of receiving comprehensive care, I have been met with a complete lack of empathy, blatant disrespect for my time, and administrative greed. ​Initially, Jesse Viner seemed attentive, but the standard of care quickly deteriorated. He ordered an EGD, which was performed by Dr. Harrison. Afterward, Dr. Harrison dismissively told me my vagus nerve was likely damaged during my previous surgery, offered absolutely no medical options to improve my quality of life, and simply recommended cannabis. When I later asked Jesse Viner to refer me elsewhere because I was out of options, he flat-out refused and told me to go back to my original physician. ​The disrespect for patient time at this office is staggering. On one occasion, the staff canceled an existing appointment specifically to accommodate Jesse Viner's schedule. They made me his first patient of the day at 7:00 AM, yet I sat there for nearly two hours and wasn't seen until almost 9:00 AM. I find it ironic that I was forced to accommodate his schedule, only to have my own time completely disregarded. ​The final straw has been the bureaucratic gatekeeping. My original physician, who initially wanted an EGD with dilation, sent a new order to GI Consultants specifically requesting Dr. Fang perform the procedure. I waited two weeks in silence from Viner's medical assistant while continuing to throw up daily. I finally had to physically go into the office to get answers. I learned that Jesse Viner had updated his notes and refused to process the order, claiming the last EGD was "too recent." Rather than collaborating with my referring doctor, he is forcing me to pay for yet another office consultation just to "justify" why I need the procedure. ​To add insult to injury, the front office informed me that I had to pay a $50.00 fee just to expedite my request for care. ​I have repeatedly communicated to this staff that my quality of life is severely diminished and that I am vomiting daily, but it clearly has no bearing on how they operate. This practice seems entirely focused on wasting patients' time and collecting extra consultation fees rather than providing actual medical care. I would never recommend this practice or this provider to anyone in Northern Nevada. I wish I could list negative stars. read more

It would seem the GI Consultants feels they do not need to treat their patients with understanding or respect. Dr. Cummings and team are very harsh and lack bedside manners. Dr. Cummings further appears to be prejudice, where he spoke to my African American boyfriend in an unprofessional manner and chose to wake me up by yelling at me. Additionally, Amelia Mangune treats her patients as though they are not telling the truth and does not aid in actual assistance in finding a remedy or at least a bandaid until a diagnosis can be found. Lastly, I have seen misdiagnosis through GI Consultants, so much so that my colleague husband passed away of bladder cancer after GI Consultants told him over and over again that all he had was a bladder infection. Do not trust their care or diagnosis. If you go there, do as I am, and get a second option. read more

If I could give them less than one star, I would. We are appalled with what this practice has turned into. We left 3 voices mails over approximately1-1/2 to 2 weeks and never received a call back. Last Friday, we finally reached someone (4th phone call) and were told that they are now a "referral based" office and that I would need to get a referral from my primary care physician. I have been a patient there for somewhere around 25 years. I am now considered a "new patient". I would now not use them if they were the last GI practice in Reno/Sparks. When they have more one star reviews than any other, leads me to believe mine also is likely not to far off base. Talk about going down hill!! What a Dump. When I checked in yesterday I was concerned when I saw the Yelp reviews! This place was recommended by my GP. Maybe this place is the only game in town but it was just awful. They tell you to arrive 1 hour before the procedure which was 12:30 for a 1:30 appointment time. When you consider the charge is $900 for this place alone maybe the socks they gave me were Versace! ;) The blanket they gave me was cheap, thin and a string. Time for new linens people! I saw my doc go to to Mr. Cellphone on the next curtain over and he was rolled in at 1:30 so they definitely double booked me. I just want to warn future patients of this, and don't bother to arrive 1 hour early it's BS! I was getting ready to leave @ 2:15 since No One apologized or even let me know they were running late...Time Is Money is what I always say because no one's time is more important that anyone else's ever! The only way I could get anyone's attention is by yelling and getting off the cart and threatening to leave. Then I got the women who's probably the top banana in there to come stop me... The worst ! I mean when you go 2 days without eating anything you feel weak, hungry and have a horrible headache. The doctor was ok, nothing special. The anesthesia person is a nurse Not a M.D fyi. Do not expect any kind of "spa treatment " here the receptionist, nurses and others were all rude and totally unprofessional. The guy one curtain over was chatting away on his cell phone... There are 2 exceptions to my review; the first being Josh who was very experienced and sweet to me. He tried to make me feel better in every way. Thanks Josh! In the recovery area, Sarah was beyond lovely to me and got me outta there quickly. I was telling Sarah about that song by Steve Perry and she played it in recovery for us. Thanks a mil Sarah! She reminded me of my beautiful daughter, she was just as pretty and sweet, they could be twins! Sometimes I wish I had more than one child... Yea right I'll be returning in 10 years, never going to happen! I had to laugh at the photos for this place, they show friendly and smiling nurses. With the exception of Josh & Sarah everyone else was grouchy and rude. Update; I just got my "follow-up" call and the said "We are calling from Dr. Shays office about your procedure yesterday..." The problem with health care in Reno is they can get away with poor treatment because of the lack of certified physicians in town. My 2 neighbors are local docs and they complain that Reno needs like 500-plus docs here. So what we are getting are docs from poor medical schools because of the desperate need here. I'm lucky that my neighbors hooked me up with great physicians! This was just a one-off and I'll be going back to my Bay Area Doc In 10 years. read more

The MDs and Practitioners are highly knowledgeable answering all my questions nonjudgmental and extremely compassionate. The office staff are excellent. Quick wait time. My husband was scheduled for a colonoscopy but we are on a budget. We needed to know what the cost would be for the procedure what we could expect to be billed etc if they found something. They were unhelpful and rude. We had no idea who he was even going to be seeing until 2 weeks before. When he called a second time to ask another billing question they cancelled his apt via text message without telling him they were going to do that. So the message was clear. Come in, sit down, don't ask questions and just do what you are told no matter the cost. What a horrible experience. Dr Cummings does not listen nor care to listen to actual evidence or issues. Went for an EGD with dilation. Desperately need the dilation for severe swallowing/dysphagia and choking problems. Dr Cummings decided to forgo the dilation and instead advise I take more omeprazole. Tried that for 10 years and ended up with SIBO from overuse of omeprazole. This office also has an APRN that I have seen. Also a complete waste of time and money, she never figured out half of the problems my nutritionist found. So now I have a diagnosis of severe narrowing of esophagus and Omeprazole is the answer. These Dr's clearly own stock in this med. absolute circus act, will be seeking care elsewhere. read more

This place has really gone down hill since first going there in 2017. Because they no longer take walk-ins I had to get an emergency referral because of heavy bleeding from my rectum after bowel movements. It was eight weeks before I received call from GI Consultants which was two weeks after being discharged from the hospital after a seven day stent there due to rectal bleeding and severe pain caused by diverticulitis with perforation which in my opinion could have all been avoided if I they had called me to schedule sooner. Two weeks out of the hospital they finally scheduled me a colonoscopy but a week later was told that the follow up appointment to go over the results was not going to happed until five months later. Needless to say I cancelled the appointment with GI Consultants and rescheduled with a different provider. Do not go here. read more

Been utilizing this clinic for colonoscopy needs for years, but this last one...this place has gone downhill. Now it has the atmosphere of a colonoscopy mill...the Dr didn't bother to wait for me to even wake-up to give me my results, I was bum-rushed out of recovery and after specifically asking for a separate plastic bag for my shoes so they wouldn't end-up being placed on top of my clothes, I was denied and when I got the bag of my clothing back, there on top of my clothes, were my shoes, dirty soles right on top of my clothes. Makes me wonder if the staff are so cavalier about cross-contamination after having been specifically asked to avoid it, how are their cross-contamination practices in their procedures? I had the most thorough initial guidance from a front desk woman. My questions were answered by email or by phone. Every staff member was gentle, had an excellent bedside manner, and answered all my questions. The tricky part is the prep, but the actual procedure was a piece of cake! read more

I've been going there for 15 years, and i'm sad that everybody that I've seen so far is retiring, but it's nice to see new people too. They listen to you, if you have ideas as far as things that might help your condition, they talk to you about them, and decide whether it's the right course of action for you. A good experience here for the North Reno location. My procedure went well. Their follow-up before and after the procedure was procedure was great. This place is very busy. During my visit, I saw about 5 different people for getting setup. They were all thorough, professional, and knowledgeable. I wish I could remember all of their names. The girl doing the IV was especially talented. I didn't hardly feel it and after it was taken out, there were never any bruises or indication I even had one. My veins aren't easy to find either ! Everyone was upbeat and jovial during conversation. After the procedure, Dr. Cummings came to discuss the outcome, but since it was right after awakening, I was not very lucid or thinking clearly. Perhaps a later visit would have been better, but this is not a complaint. Next, the wife is going there for the same procedure so we will see how that goes. So far I am very impressed, and I have been in the medical business for over 30 years, so I tend to be critical. However, nothing to critique here. read more

She also called in Dr. Cummings to double check something for a second opinion. He was great also. The front desk staff was great too. Not sure if a am really a "fan", but I am very satisfied with the level of service I have received from the doctors and staff at GI Consultants. I have had two routine "procedures" here over the last few years and have always been treated professionally every time. I have had a few follow up appointments with Dr. Osgard. He has always treated me with respect and compassion. Appointments have been easy to make and when I have come to the office, have been seen quickly with very little wait time. Terrible experience was honest had a sip of water before leaving home at 9 for a 10:30 procedure 15 more minutes would have made min 2 hr standard now regarded as safe by Mayo Clinic Harvard and other respected hospitals for propofol sedation mind you I'm naked in gown on gurney they informed me I had to wait 2 more hrs. After I followed their prep directions to a T drank their whole gal of crap i got up got dressed and left I was already put off by their rude condescending attitude during check in I felt was due to my being a referral from the community clinic want me to leave by the back door into the alley. I use a cane asked if I needed to sit during intake why do they have people stand in front of the chairs for it. The employee processing my urgent referral stated that this is common for this office. She suggested going to someone in California, as this office would not have an opening for 5 months. Today I underwent my second colonoscopy at this facility. Despite a high volume of patients, this clinic functions quite smoothly. Dr. Cummings and Kyle, the nurse anesthesiologist spent as much time as I needed, answering questions and explaining what they were going to do. The nursing care was excellent. I was very nervous about my procedure, but I was getting the deep sedation and was told it would be like a nice nap. That was not true! I woke up during the procedure! It was scary and unpleasant! When I asked why this happened they just told me it was normal. They want you to be more awake when you are in recovery. No thank you! I'd be happy to spend a little more time in recovery so I can be completely sedated during the procedure. I guess they don't care about your comfort and just want to leave as soon as possible. read more

NO NO NO. They do not call you back and after waiting 2 months for a phone call I called them. Scheduler was extremely rude, not in the least concerned with what is going on & as you are describing your issue stops you mid sentence with" what is your DOB" and "oh yes I see the referral from a couple months ago". Then without stopping says " Maybe it is urgent but we cannot get you in until Aug". Which was four months later. So I'd rather travel to Stanford which is the hospital where my heart transplant was preformed & they seem to understand the urgency when your gastro issues are messing with your anti rejection medication. read more

I had a referral last year Nov 22, 2022. I made the appointment for February 1, 2023. I never received a confirmation or email. I called the office on January 31st just to make sure I was still a go. The scheduler I spoke to said there was no appointment for me. She searched for the referral and could not locate it. I was really annoyed -- I asked to speak to a supervisor however she put me on hold to go search or something. When she came back she indicated I could get a new appointment in 3 months. Really??? So I sent a note to my Primary care told her what happened and she checked into the situation. She called them to find out more. They did not have the referral nor any record of an appointment. I have all my notes from the call and a copy of the referral and it is in My Chart. So my primary put in a new referral to them so I can start all over again! That should have been the end of it.... However, yesterday 2/4/23, I received a letter from GI Consultants indicating I had missed my appointment! Come on you guys get your act together. I am so frustrated at the moment -- this is really pathetic. So obviously I was somewhere in the system just not on the schedule?? I had an endoscopy done by Dr. Daniel Cummings and I must say I was very impressed with his professionalism and bedside manner. He explained everything to me about the procedure and kept me well informed. The staff was extremely courteous and friendly! The procedure went flawlessly no complications or issues. Dr. Ting-Hui Hsieh was at most professional and caring and with an outstanding bedside manners; humane and compassionate, empathetic and supportive. The Anesthesiologist was polite and appeared caring. Weakest links: The front office staff [L?] appeared ill-mannered, disrespectful and undiplomatic. As with other reviews, they do not return phone calls and it took a while to get on the schedule. Then I go to order my prep materials and I am not in the system to be able to order. After a week of back and forth, General Custer calls me this morning with no information as to why I am not in the system to order my prep materials. My mother was referred here and has been here several times. She doesn't get to see the actual doctor, just physician's assistants. There has been a casual attitude about her suffering. (I see other reviews here from people who are clearly suffering more than my mom; I hope they're at least receiving more sympathy.) Her visits aren't particularly taken seriously, she is not given any help beyond suggestions of taking beneful or docusate (those are NOT cures), nobody here seems all that concerned about the long term effects of her condition... Mom has recently developed a new issue, she's seeing her GP this week, and I'm going to make sure she gets a referral to some OTHER gastro place this time. read more

We had previously seen Dr. Holland (who left the practice) for my 2.5 year old. Tried to come today for a follow-up appointment with Dr. Gregory. Our appointment was at 4pm, we arrived at 355pm, 10 mins late for the "check-in" time and were told we were too late to be seen. Nowhere does it say not arriving by check-in time will result in not being seen. Left work early, wrangled a toddler out of daycare, drove 40 minutes round trip for nothing. My doctor sent a referral and they never contacted me. Called the office to check into this. Someone finally answered and said I had the wrong part of the office so I would be transferred. Phone rang and rang, no answer and no answering machine. Called back and was transferred to someone else who did have an answering machine. Left a message and never got a call back. There were fees I didn't expect and when I asked about them I was just told that that was how they always do it. Had my first ever colonoscopy today after meeting with one of the PAs a few months ago. Overall, Al unpleasantness aside, the experience was good. Except for the front desk staff at the endoscopy desk at this location, the entire staff was really great. The front desk person needs to work on her pleasantness. It's definitely a factory feel as they move you thru all the stages quite quickly and efficiently yet I never felt rushed in my dealings with anyone. Received a positive diagnoses for an autoimmune disease but was not informed of my diagnoses. I had to read my chart to see the results. I received no guidance other than a one page pamphlet on how to manage my new diet. I often feel my concerns are dismissed. We don't have many choices but this isn't a place where health is cared for whatsoever. read more
