A great and easy spot to stop at to get your dim sum fix without going all the way to Chinatown. It was good but not as much variety as I wanted in the dim sum category which is in the name, but it took care of my craving of wanting dim sum quickly and easily while staying in Flatiron area. The sui mai was the star of it all, I don't normally love it but I always get it because one day I just might and that one day was today. The duck dumpling that people talked about was not my favorite and something I hope to never encounter again, haha. I also loved their rice crepes could include egg which is my favorite way to eat it and a lot of dim sum cart pushing places don't have that option.

I'm a Hong Kong born Cali raised Cantonese foodie who's forever in search of Cantonese food during travels. This place was so good I came back twice in a weekend for breakfast. Rice porridge with pork and thousand year old egg - Generous portion of meat and egg. Ask for white pepper to sprinkle on top. Portuguese egg tart - Absolutely memorable. Flaky and buttery crust. Perfectly sweet and creamy custard. But not too sweet as we'd say. Lemon iced tea - Good not great. Prefer the HK style where you can taste the smashed bitters of the lemon zest. Roast duck noodle soup with HK noodles - Large portion of meat! Almost too much for one person. Delicious meat and perfectly bouncy noodles. Solid broth. Iced Milk tea - Delish. Service - Speedy!!! Quick counter ordering process. Your number is bellowed on the loud speaker when it's time to get your food. Self serve on utensils and clearing of tray after the meal just like any fast casual spot. Great value and location. Nice to have this canto option in Nomad to save a trek to Chinatown for this type of comfort food.

This was exactly what we needed as we were walking across Manhattan on a breezy Saturday afternoon. We ordered a bunch of stuff at the window, grabbed a seat and in just a few minutes we were eating spicy mushroom dumplings, roast duck dumplings, scallion pancakes, and pork buns. All that and a water for 30.00 was the perfect inexpensive lunch to fuel us up for the rest of our hike.

Fast and easy ordering at the counter, then self service tables and condiments in the back as you wait for your number to come up. Great pork and duck in the window to the kitchen, did not disappoint! Great pastry for the deep fried dim sum, very flaky layers, and add/make your own sauce at the station. Easy place to join up with a group low-key!

In the mood for a la carte dim sum? Dim Sum Sam has got you covered from early AM to like 9:30pm (last I checked). The dim sum is tasty - love the siu mai - and is not Americanized. Get your goods to go, or sit and enjoy. During nicer weather, you've got Madison Square Park right there. Enjoy that vitamin D! Peep the lunch specials. The math may math for you if you want roast pork on rice (hint: you do!) and a lemon ice tea. Yes, prices are higher than Chinatown, but you're not in Chinatown. Credit accepted.

Great spot for Cantonese food outside of Chinatown! Very casual place where you order at the counter and wait for your number to be called. We had pork and duck noodle soup and pork and chicken over rice, along with a roasted pork rice noodle roll. All the meat was very tender and cooked really well. The rice noodle rolls are always my favorite! And of course we had to end the meal with an egg tart! Definitely recommend if you are in the area.

One of my favorite spots to eat at in the area. I never have to wait too long and the duck noodle soup is great (my favorite item here). The duck skin isn't always crispy but I don't mind when I'm eating it with soup. Very generous amount of meat and veggies and the egg noodles are solid. I also recommend trying the X over rice dishes- love that they come with pickled radish. Dining area is nice and clean and staff are friendly

    This cost me almost $29.

Maybe great to get takeout food at this place. I had my Sunday lunch here and I need to order by the front entrance without prices. Eat-in area is good and choices of sauce for ourself. Menu choice is not such a wide but I could get just what I wanted. Wanted small wonton soup but it was a big portion, maybe good for share with 2-3. I ordered at front and pickup food when ready by myself and ask for tip at front before how I know the system, that's tricky enough because I did not get ANY service from them. Food it self, I felt frozen foods steam up except wonton soup. There's many ways to improve this place including food quality and humanly service. 3 items and paid $29. I had un-satisfied lunch here. I may find better place around here.

We ordered the minced beef congee, pan-fried chive dumpling, shu mai, and shrimp dumplings. The portions were just right for me and my friend. The food was served quickly, & there was plenty of seating available. Overall, it's a great spot for a quick and satisfying dim sum fix!

Dim Sum Sam in Flatiron is a solid pick for a quick, satisfying meal. We came for a casual weekday dinner and tried two noodle soups: the beef stew with egg noodles and the fish ball & fish cake ho fun. The beef stew was rich, flavorful, and had a nice spicy kick that paired perfectly with the chewy egg noodles. In contrast, the fish ball and fish cake soup was much more mild and light, with a clean broth and thick chewy rice noodles. Both were generous in portion, comforting in different ways, and served quickly. It's more of a casual spot where you order at the counter and pick-up your own food to bring to the table. Will have to come again for breakfast and try their dim sum items!

Great little place to order take out. Ordered the noodle soup with two toppings, roasted duck and bbq roast pork. Also got an order of shrimp dumplings. Dumplings were solid! Great chew on the wrapper and plump shrimp. Soup was tasty and porky, great egg noodle texture, tasty duck, bbq pork was pretty good, perfectly cooked greens, and jammy marinated egg Wish I had some spicier chili oil to compliment the soy and vinegar

Fast casual. Chinese BBQ with some combos under $15 that come with their portugese egg tart (what their known for and its delicious) and a lemon tea drink (this is very unsweetened compared to what I'm used to in HK and Vancouver). We were big fans of their egg tarts which had a milky soft egg custard that we like. The BBQ pork are pretty good as is their duck noodles. Their beef brisket is spicy so beware, but still tasty - no complaints! Inside past the cashier, you'll see the cooks and bbq hanging, and past that they have a nice, spacious, clean space with plenty of seats and tables to dine in.

Delicious! At Dim Sum Sam, you order and pick up your food at the front counter and in the back, they have a well lit clean dining area with a screen to monitor your order progress. In the hall between the two, you can see into the kitchen and watch your food being prepared. The food was ready after a short wait, utensils and sauce are located at a station near the entrance of the dining area. The dim sum tasted fresh and flavorful and the rice plates were delicious! I had the crispy pork belly rice plate and the meat was tender and a little chewy and the pork skin was super crispy. But the really show stopper was the sauce that was drizzled on top, absolutely amazing, with the pork and after with the rice left over at the bottom of the plate!

Dish highlights include the shrimp and chive dumplings, beef chow fun, and my personal favorite, the stuffed eggplant. Other items were a little bland, like the turnip cakes and har gow, and the pan fried shrimp noodles were awkwardly plated and made them difficult to eat. I also wish they had rice noodle rolls, which I didnt see on the menu. Really what pushed it to 5 stars to me was the service. We came as a huge group of 20, with a baby and stroller in tow, and they handled everything without so much as a grimace, just an outpouring of helpfulness. They sat half our group at a round table and the other half at a rectangular long table and also helped us navigate dietary restrictions, asking specifically who in the group had those restrictions. The menu is labeled too, so you know which items are vegetarian or gluten free. At one point our helpful server noticed we hadn't really touched that awkwardly plated noodle dish and offered to replace it with another. We didn't take him up on that as I'd find that wasteful but I thought that was so attentive and earned them a generous tip. The space is nice looking, and the food came out very quickly. We also didn't break the bank, even with plenty of drink orders. Dao's is an easy recommendation, especially when you factor in how seamlessly they handled our chaos.

I was browsing for places with scallion pancakes and I came across this restaurant. I saw they had a scallion pancake beef rook which I'd never seen before. It was fried and crispy on the inside with tender beef on the inside, that was slightly savory slightly sweet. I had the roll on its own, which made for a light meal, but it can also be enjoyed as a large snack. It was a little greasy, which can be expected, but not sure if I'd get it again. I did think it was innovative though. The most impressive thing about the restaurant was actually the space. I came to pick up my food and was surprised to see this beautiful place. The outside is unassuming and nothing special but inside has the aesthetic of an old Shanghai restaurant. It's ornate and slightly quirky. It's also really big, bigger than I expected. Even the bathrooms had traditional Chinese flare with the sliding doors. Definitely worth checking out,

Some of the most memorable dishes were the Mapo Tofu ($13.99), Hutaoli Roast Chicken ($43 for whole), Spicy Pot Potato ($19), Roasted Green Beans ($22), etc. All of the food is good, but definitely pricey. While the food also came out quickly, our drinks came out towards the end of our meal. It's a good spot for big parties as it never got too busy even on a Saturday night. They also have private rooms. The live music was fun, but also made it hard to have conversation.
