The food is good, and with a nice variety, but the staff act like every customer that walks through the door is a great inconvenience.

My only complaint was that my tummy didn't have enough room to try everything. There was so much to choose from appetizer to entree to dessert. Everything looked and smelled wonderful. I particularly liked the cucumber salad, the Baba ganoush was delicious, as was the lentil soup. It was a nice family atmosphere, the restaurant was very clean, and the staff was very attentive. Be careful if you have read older reviews. Dimassi used to be decent but I think it had changed ownership in the past year (my speculation) and the quality and variety had gone way downhill. The salad section has remained almost the same as before, but I doubt anyone goes there just for the salad bar. The hot food selection is poor. Gone are the lamb shanks, no more fresh nan bread, basmati rice and the nice creamy sauce that I used to pour over it. We found roasted chicken that were burnt on the outside but undercooked inside (bloody). Some typical American fares such as fried chicken drumsticks and cheese pizza which I assume are there to appease younger kids. We were there on a Friday night a little past 5pm and the beef kabob ran out around 6pm (after only 1 round) and I was told there won't be anymore coming from the kitchen. That was just pathetic for a buffet restaurant. The food is mediocre, nothing I tried had me wanting to grab seconds. I do not recommend this place given the price, it is not worth it. No reason for me to pay another visit even if they halved the price. read more

The staff was kind and hard working - mexican nationals - they had two men cooking for the buffet and one busing and dish washing! Word to the manager/owner need more staff! The buffet line was very clean and the food choices were fresh with plenty of variety of food choices and desserts. The gentleman at the register was kind and professional. If you are looking for a mediterranean buffet in Austin it is the only place with reasonable choice and fair price. I am concerned that the staff is over worked and may leave this location. UNHAPPY. I have been to this place 10 times and even left a great review on here back in April. Today, I am not so happy anymore. If your service is bad, it doesnt matter how good your food is. Beware of buying or using Groupons with this place. They seem to make their own rules up of when they will and wont accept the groupon. And since you pay upon leaving, it is always too late. So be careful and ask before you sit down if today is the lucky lotto winning day you can use it. Nowhere on the groupon will it say you cant use it on Saturdays or Sunday. Yet they will refuse to let you use it. Guess what Dimassi's if its not on the Groupon or in the fine print, then its your problem/fault not mine. You should have accepted it today (Saturday) no matter what your surprise policy is. I thoroughly checked the groupon and there is not even a hint of days or times you cant use it. After being so loyal to this place and telling people about it, I will not likely be back. I can certainly dine just as well, 10 miles closer to my house, for less than $26. Without you guys taking the groupon its just not worth the drive. I truly wanted to support this business, but when you dont support your customers in return with good service, you dont get my business. read more

When this place opened, I went 5 days a week. I'm Lebanese so I was beside myself with joy at the presence of some Mediterranean food near where I work. However, I found it to be greatly disappointing. It has a very bland atmosphere. It feels big and empty, as if I'm eating in a warehouse. The layout is awkward. We recently ate at Dimassi's for the first time in a long time, and I'm glad to say the quality has really improved! I gather that the original owners recently bought it back. I'm so glad! I took two friends to Dimasis today for lunch. It was busy. The manager I complained,about in my earlier comments was there. The bus boys were busing. The food was sensational. The food was constantly tended to and refreshed. Everything was like it is with the manager who always runs it like a finely running timepiece. We were there at 12:00. The quality is excellent and this buffet is fresh every time I go, which has been pretty often lately (once a week). I've tried just about all the Mediterranean food and enjoyed it all. We have gone to Dimassi's on and off for a couple of years, returning each time in hopes of giving it another chance and then being grossed out by how filthy this place is from the bathrooms (which are disgusting) to all the dirty tables, chairs and floors to even the buffet and silverware tonight. I could not get any knives tonite because they were all greasy and had food on them. One of the owners tried to show the other guy at the cash register discreetly 3 plates he took off the buffet "clean" dishes pile that were full of food....it was really disgusting...it appeared that dirty dishes got mixed in somehow. We should have walked out from the moment we walked in. The guy at the cash register looked at us as my three kids and I walked in and without any form of a welcome but a frown he asked how many and then said "you pay me now"....while everyone leaving seemed to all pay as they left, which is what we have always done in the past as well. Plus the owners were very cold...not hospitable at all. We tried to get a table and there was used silverware and food just carpeted all over including 3 high hairs caked in food...we tried to go to the other side of the restaurant and has to wait to have the tables cleaned there as well after asking. The owners have not ever seemed to show one bit of customer hospitality. The condition of the visible sight of the restaurant makes me truly wonder the environment of the hidden areas and where the food we are eating is being cooked. It is really hard to believe the big banner they have placed outside saying that the were voted best restaurant for certain years when this place is just so dirty and the management is so cold....the foods aren't necessarily labeled or even labeled correctly more often than not....we have left here feeling pretty disappointed every time which is really a shame because the food itself is good. I think this may be a a hit or miss kind of a place. I have been here twice but my parents have been there a lot and often have good things to say. I haven't been so lucky. They were closed for awhile but recently reopened. We went on a Saturday night so I would think they would want to showcase their best but all I can say is DRY and SALTY. All of the meats were overdone. The chicken kabobs were the least dry but still cooked at least 4 minutes too long. I almost forgot, the shredded beef was actually pretty good - the best protein out there. The fish was cooked unevenly - one side so overdone I couldn't cut through it with my fork, the other dry, but edible and very salty. The broiled cauliflower was almost good but also way too salty. Some of the meats were completely inedible. I gave 2 stars for the kindness of the staff and the beef (though not something I think of as specifically Mediterranean), hummus, and baklava. I hope they can get it together, they seem like good people. read more

I first went to Demassi's with a Groupon, I thought it was okay nothing spectacular. The owner/manager was rude and almost bothered because we used a groupon. I then saw a deal on Urban dealight and thought why not. There was some issues with my coupon and it was showing as having been used even though it has not. I called the company who told me they called and talked to the restauraunt and fixed the coupon and everything should be good to go now. WELL, my sister and I went to eat there yesterday and the owner/manager was just completely rude and did not make an effort to call the company and try to resolve the issue. Again, like he was bothered that we were paying with the coupon he made a deal with this company to sell for him. Customer service is VERY important to me, I asked for a refund to the company and will never go back there again if for no other reason than the customer service of the owner/manager. read more

My spouse and I have been visiting Dimassi's since we lived in Houston. Our favorite was the Dimassi's located in the Woodlands, near the mall. When we moved to Austin, we were pleasantly surprised to find there was one not far from where we chose to live. The ambience is not quite as nice as that in the Woodlands, but the food is just as delicious, and it's a great restaurant for vegetarians and vegans alike, with many fresh, meat-free choices. The food is not overly spiced, drinks are included in the buffet price, and management is very polite and professional. The food is freshly prepared and wonderful. We were happily surprised with we found the manager of the Woodlands restaurant had come to Austin to manage this one, not long after we moved here. He is very friendly, professional, and really stays on top of things so everyone has a good experience at this restaurant. This restaurant may ot appeal to big fans of junk food because it is not a junk-food experience. For those who are fans of healthy eating and a nice sit-down dining experience without having to dress up or make a reservation, this is a good choice. The restrooms are also very clean when we visit, and tables are not left dirty or unkempt. Groupon occasionally features specials for this restaurant, but at around 25 dollars for two adult buffets, it's a great price for a pleasant dining experience. read more
