I'd been wanting to check this place out for quite some time. There's another location in Round Rock, but many reviewers said the original spot is much better, so we decided to start with the OG location. Parking is plentiful right in front of the restaurant. We came by on a Saturday around 1 PM, worried it might be packed, but it was actually pretty quiet. You can sit anywhere you like, grab a plate, and pay when you're done. The space is large and open, with three full rows of food and drinks plus a dedicated station for fruit and desserts. Everything was fresh, not overly salty, and there were plenty of options. My favorites were the hummus with eggplant (so flavorful with great texture), the salad and cucumber salad (fresh and refreshing), the dolma (perfectly done), gyro (tender and tasty), baked cauliflower (so good), fried chicken (juicy, crispy, and not salty), falafel (extra crunchy), and the lentil soup (simple but delicious). And don't miss their coffee at the checkout--it has a hint of warm spice and is the perfect finish after a meal. Surprisingly, I ended up loving the vegetable dishes even more than the meats. Overall, yes, $26 per person is on the higher side (what doesn't cost these days, right?!), but it's a great spot to try a variety of Mediterranean dishes that are fresh, simply seasoned, and let the ingredients shine--perfect whether you're new to the cuisine or just want a bit of everything. read more

Thanksgiving came around and we had zero desire to cook or clean. Our "plan" (and I use that word loosely) was Golden Corral. We figured if we got there early, we'd beat the crowd. Cute of us, honestly. We pulled up and that parking lot looked like Beyoncé was performing. Cars everywhere: on the grass, on the curbs, people creating their own imaginary parking spaces. People circling like it was Black Friday. Absolutely not. We left with no backup plan and even less hope. Pulled up Yelp and I remembered that Dimassi's buffet had been on my radar for months, but was it open? Called them up and CHA-CHING!!! Money! They were open, guys. That phone call felt like hitting the lottery. Thanksgiving was saved. We arrived and Dimassi's was calm, clean, and the buffet bar was fully stocked with hot food fresh out of the kitchen. They had your Mediterranean favorites: dips, salads, gyro meat, dolma, chicken kabobs, saffron rice, the good garlicky toum, warm potatoes, fresh pita, everything. They even prepared a turkey for patrons who wanted some. Wow. They understood the assignment. Now a couple things could be tweaked. I like my baba ganoush served warm...and maybe they could have had some lamb options? But, honestly? For a buffet on Thanksgiving at $23 a person ($9 for the 3 yr old with us), they delivered HARD. Been on the hunt for tasty arabi food since moving to Austin and this is the place! It's clean and self serve which makes it easy for casual days. I couldn't believe I've never tried Dimassi's since I moved to Austin! The buffet had a great variety of choices! My favorite bread was the cheese pita. But they're all good and was baked fresh. Hummus and baba ghanoush was amazing. Main dish fave was the grilled chicken. The gyro was a little bit overcooked. Baklava was my go to for dessert! The fruits were a great choice for the more health conscious clients. They have hot tea/cold unsweetened tea, raspberry tea and soda vending machine. I'm not usually a buffet person but Dimassi's is the one place I'll make an exception because they have delicious food, it's clean, and it's reasonable priced. Dimassi's Mediterranean Buffet always has a special place in my heart because they were one of the few places we could find open during the snow and ice storm in February of 2021 that shut down Austin (we were visiting from out of town and were stuck with no food). This was our first visit back after 3 years since moving here and loved it just as much! You pay on the way out so you're able to walk in and join the buffet line right away! There's plenty of hand sanitizer available and you get a fresh plate with each visit. They didn't come by to collect used plates from our table but we were also there not too long before closing. The pricing varies depending on the day and time you visit but even the most expensive pricing on Friday and weekend nights is reasonable at $23.99 per person for all you can eat with the appetizers, entrees, desserts, and drinks. Here are some of my favorite items: Pita bread (thicker than most traditional pita breads which I LOVE) Baba Ghanouge Avocado hummus Rice with lentils Cauliflower Lemon potatoes Gyro meat (use a pita to make a gyro with the cucumber mint yogurt sauce... so good!) Baklava (I usually don't love baklava because it's so sweet but this one was great) If you want a great selection of Mediterranean food and the ability to indulge in as much as you want, you can't beat Dimassi's! Great place. All the food was fresh and very good. There were a lot of protein, vegetable and fruit options. A drink was included with the buffet. The owner was actively participating in running the business, not just telling people what to do. My elderly mother came with us (a group of 9) but wasn't feeling good. I asked if she could get the childrens menu, or maybe something ala carte to hold her over. The owner said, "it was on the house tonight." Wow. I did a to go order so walk in and self serve and I just got one plastic round bowl. Customer service was very nice very clean, polite, food area, and the tables for the dining. I like that the labels are easy to read in the picture are Vegan Friendly and also the food choices. You have more than four choices for vegans, which is a wonderful and I like that you can get points as you're spending money there each and every time and yes, it's by the scale of weight and I like my food to be at least two scoops so I like my prices for that amount of food . I did not like the falafel at this location because they tasted differently from the South Austin Stasny location,, in Austin, Texas. It tasted more fried and grainy, and some parts of it was uncomfortable to keep in your mouth. I think I like the south Austin location much better. read more

Dimassi's is arguably one of the more underrated places in Austin for mediterranean food, especially if you love vegetables! all of the salads are fresh, food is flavorful, and plenty of options. I have been coming here for years and the food is always consistent and delicious. The staff is friendly and the restaurant is always very clean. Awesome choice if you have vegetarians and meat eaters in your group. No, it's not the fanciest facility, but yes the value is there. The highlights: there's a whole buffet dedicated to accompaniments, another for meat / entree, and one for desserts. This is a great place if you are following an eating plan like keto but still want to eat a lot of food. The hummus & garlic dips were incredible. The meats that I had were all mostly good. The baklava was decent, a little sugar forward. The rose water was interesting (like drinking what potpourri smells like but sweet?). Worth the price. The non-highlights: the parking lot is a little hard to find. the bathrooms are not super well maintained. not every food item is great (didn't love every dip, some of the veggies were still a bit raw...but others were cooked well and had a nice char in the same container, the pasta hadn't been refreshed in a bit so it was cold). The ice machine ran out of ice at the end of our meal. They didn't have the lamb shanks (but to be fair, it was a Wednesday night). When it comes to a large variety of healthful foods, Dimassi's cannot be topped! I don't go often, because I still tend to overeat at these kinds of restaurants, but I always enjoy it when I go. We took our family to this restaurant because my son's girlfriend said it was great up in the Dallas area. Unfortunately, this location didn't measure up to that other one. The food was not fresh, the salads tasted like they were turning. My two son's could barely eat anything, because they were turned off by the flavors. We cook Mediterranean food at home and could see the difference. We all left the restaurant with stomach aches and felt weird the rest of the day. Not sure if they put MSG in any of the food. We'll let me say if you want outstanding Mediterranean food that covers everything, this is where you should go. I've been to Peace Bakery and Deli, which is excellent. Here you get all the possibilities and more! I have to say this is the best place to go if you're looking for outstanding Mediterranean. I will say the shredded beef was out of this world! I had it with pita, ala gyro! The choice of salads, humus, falafel etc etc. I live up north but definitely would recommend going here, especially if you're in the area. The cold section has THREE types of hummus, at least five kinds of salads ranging from chickpea to fattoush. Lots of yogurt and dip selections and fruit. They were cooking pita bread in the oven (maybe a brick oven? there was a fire in there) and we could watch them do this. It was fresh, hot, & the best pita bread I've ever had! I tried several types of chicken - all were delicious! So many items on the buffet and I had a little bit of as many things as I wanted. We had sodas which were included in the price of the buffet which is a nice touch. There were enough people working to make sure the dishes were filled if they got somewhat low. We were a little confused when we got here since it was our first time, but then we saw the big sign that said we could seat ourselves, eat, then pay afterwards at the register - the prices were listed here too. $21.99 for an adult. After all of the mixed reviews, I was kind of nervous that my Yelp friend and I chose to meet at this place for dinner @ 6:30pm on a weekday. I looked for the infamous Manaf but it was not there. We also didn't get to try any lamb shanks. However, the grilled chicken, avocado hummus, and GARLIC SAUCE were the stars here. Our grilled vegetables were still raw. The salads were missing a little bit of freshness and the baba ganoush was inedible. Everyone is right about the rose water -- very different, yet super delicious. I gave this place a 5 star review last time and I still support the crap out of the dimassis franchise as an amazing healthy and tasty Mediterranean buffet - the first I'd ever seen! However as some reviews have mentioned.. this place is just going downhill. The main fault for me is the management and how they just visibly show they don't care. I'm not sure if business is suffering so by trying to charge more for less quality they hope this will increase margins or if it's something else. I know it's tough to run a business so I sympathize but they did get rid of lamb shanks on weekends but the price still comes out to around $22-25 for the buffet which is more than I think I'm willing to pay from now on. I might go check back on the south location again because I love the food and again I think this is just a branch management issue. The biggest whammy has been the last two times I've been here - it's been an hour before closing both times I went and by the end of the meal I'm almost done but they get a bit hostile and make you pay and kinda push you to get out. Right at around 9, some worker came with the trash and clean up bins and stood right next to us while I was still eating and just stared at us until we were done. A bit uncomfortable. On top of that I still had some food left and my friend asked if we could take the food on the plate home since they were kicking us out and they said no since "then everyone will start doing that". They end up throwing away all the food at the end of the night anyways so this just felt like a weird situation where we couldn't stay and finish for a few minutes and so they just wanted us to throw our food away. Long story short, I shouldn't go so close to closing time but I think it showed a bit of their true colors and plus the fact that they raised prices while removing the beloved lamb shank on weekends...
