I came in with low expectations, as I had been to SEVERAL other bridal shops and was tired of the same old white dresses and high pressure sales people, but Dimitra was completely different for the better. From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed and supported--and that's all thanks to Rachael. Rachael is simply amazing. She took the time to really understand my style and vision, and even though they didn't have exactly what I described, she still went above and beyond to help me find something that aligned with my taste. Her patience, honesty, and dedication made me feel like more than just another appointment. This was hands down one of the best bridal appointments I've had. When I was searching for a bridal shop, my cousin recommended Dimitra's Bridal as she got her dress from there ten years ago. Despite my desire to get a dress made by an African designer, I wanted to experience an in-person visit to a bridal shop for myself, my friends and family. Dimitra's Bridal exceeded my expectations. My associate, Macy, was incredibly friendly and helpful. I could not have tried on those beautiful dresses without her assistance. As a fashionista, the style and design of my clothes are extremely important to me, and Dimitra's did not disappoint in this department. I have high expectations for clothing, so for me to say that is a big deal. I showed Macy a video of the style I was looking for, and she pulled out numerous amazing dresses. The first dress I tried on was the one I fell in love with, and it ultimately became the winner. I also tried on a beautiful veil, but it was out of my budget. I loved dreaming while wearing it in the store. I said yes to the dress, and I plan to update my review with a photo of my actual dress next year after my wedding. I called to make an appointment and was asked my wedding date which is pretty normal. However after sharing my date, the consultant on the phone repeated it back to me sounding confused. I confirmed that the date was correct and she goes, "You're having your wedding on a Monday? That's very unusual..." and LAUGHS. I was in disbelief. If I am calling to make an appointment at your store, to potentially spend thousands of dollars with you, I don't want (nor appreciate) your unsolicited opinion about my wedding date. This review is for Macy - we feel so lucky to have been paired with her! She made our experience at Dimitras so special (and shout-out to Fran as well, for warmly joining the dress crew party on our final visit). I visited Dimitras 3 times before pulling the trigger, and Macy was consistently caring, patient, warm, and knowledgeable each time, whether it was just me or with my group. She astutely identified what dress features worked best for me and my petite frame, and was the one who suggested I try on my chosen dress, despite it not standing out on the hanger. I felt like I could be super direct and honest with her, and she went out of her way to order samples that they didn't carry so I could try all my top picks at once. When it came time to order and receive my dress, they were very communicative and flexible since I had to ship my dress to LA. I personally did not feel rushed or pressured, but I do think Macy was instrumental in creating the wonderful experience we had. Make sure you look at their website for the designers they carry and the respective price points (I think they are on the higher end) and I would recommend going during the week if you can. My fittings went well, and they were very communicative on what was being altered. I received thorough instructions for how to keep my dress looking its best once we picked it up, and they were very clear on documenting everything. This was such a disappointing stop for us as we searched for my friend's wedding dress. We made an appointment during a trunk show for a designer she liked - my friend's first stop for wedding dress shopping. It's so sad because the whole experience turned her off completely. Our consultant was very abrasive, rushed my friend, tried to pressure her at every turn, called her style 'plain', seemed to get very annoyed & frustrated when she didn't like her suggestions and didn't enjoy any input from my friend's cousin...at one point telling her, "NO! She doesn't like that!" when she held up a dress asking if she'd like to try it on. Um what...let my friend speak for herself, you met her twenty minutes ago. When my friend's cousin said she was going to look for dresses around the store, the consultant rushed after her, leaving my friend in the dressing room ready to try on a dress, and proceeding to follow the cousin around telling her things were WAY out of my friend's budget. Oy vey. She muttered something to a fellow consultant at one point in another language, as well, no idea what was said but I can only assume it wasn't complimentary. My friend tried on six dresses than our consultant said there was nothing left for her to try on. Um what? In a shop full of dresses? And she was only able to try on one from the designer she liked...and it was quite atrocious. I've been a maid of honor 5 times, bridesmaid 10x and have never seen anything like this in all the dress shops I've been to. This has everything to do with our consultant and not much to do with the shop other than them hiring her. However, we did find the dresses to be quite matronly and not worth the prices, but what do we know. We saw one beautiful dress another lady was trying on while we were there but the rest were very meh. Just our opinions! We got the strong feeling that her 5k budget wasn't enough while there as it was mentioned to us a few times. That's insane to me. The consultant even said to my friend "Are you a doctor?" ...just totally randomly. The strange thing is, my friend is a doctor. However in what world should that make any type of difference?! On another weird side note, all the other parties got champagne, but we were never offered any. Sadly this was such a disappointing experience, I felt tremendously horrible for my friend and I can't in good faith recommend any future brides to this shop. read more

After reading the other 1 star reviews from this bridal shop it is clear to me that many girls have had the same experience. Do not go here. This store puts the pressure on and makes you feel rushed to purchase a gown. If you see a bride is clearly conflicted on a gown do not pressure her into purchasing. How about recommend she sleep on it first. I asked for all lace type gowns that had some type of sleeves. I was brought out gowns with intense appliqué and beading and sparkly. All of the things I did not want or show in my photo. Between the Champaign and the hurry to make the purchase because of some discount offered really doesn't help. I purchased a gown under pressure that I realized I did not want at all 5 days later. Not to mention when you're in the dressing room sliding your card THEY DO NOT VERBALLY TELL YOU ITS NON REFUNDABLE. I called 5 days later to see if I could cancel because I googled and google said you may be able to cancel if it's not in production yet. Of course the store mentioned it was in production at this point. I am now stuck with a dress I was pressured into buying. Let's see how the delivery and fit goes as it seems there are a lot of negative reviews regarding those steps in the process. read more

Very disappointing experience overall. My sister in law was looking for her wedding dress & had issues with Dimitras from the start. They were rude when she confirmed her appt, then when we got there, the consultant rushed her and had a bad attitude immediately. We asked for water, as the bride was thirsty, and the consultant responded with, "I'm helping the bride right now, I'll get to you later." Okay? The water was actually for the bride, but sure. She continued to be rude for the duration of the appointment. The ambiance left much to be desired, as well, as the store is pretty worn and run down. Considering the gowns they sell, you would expect a cleaner, more updated facade. To be honest, it was probably the worst bridal dress shopping experience I've ever been a part of, and I've been to almost every bridal store in the city between my own wedding festivities & those of my friends & family. Most stores have friendly, outgoing consultants, champagne/water upon arrival, and a much more inviting environment, overall. If you're spending $3-10k on a wedding gown, these things should be a given, in my opinion. They also have a four guest limit, just FYI. There are plenty of other options in this area of Chicago - I would definitely recommend skipping this one. read more

I recently purchased my gown at Dimitras and couldn't be happier! For months i shopped around, went to bridal stores in the area, and was unsatisfied with the selections, service, and aesthetics of the stores. When i stepped into this store I was in awe, it's an absolute dream. It was picture perfect, and Ismini and the rest of the staff (especially the owners, Maria and Tina) were very professional, and you could tell they cared by the effort they put into making my experience memorable. I came with my parents (wanted an intimate moment with them) and they treated my parents with so much care, made sure they were enjoying the experiencing as much as i was.The selection of dresses was beautiful, Ismini made sure to listen to what i wanted and with her expertise was able to find me my dream dress (a beautiful lace Reem Acra gown)! I can't wait to go back in a couple of months to try on my gown and work with everyone at the store again. While I did not end up purchasing my wedding dress here, I cannot recommend this salon highly enough. The ladies who worked with me (Erin, and another young woman who had only just started working there, she was awesome!) were so kind, so understanding, and made the experience so much fun. I felt NO obligation to purchase a dress or make a decision right then and there, they were more invested in me finding my dream dress, even if it meant that dress wasn't from them. The salon is a beautiful space with racks upon racks of stunning gowns at a very inclusive price range. No matter what kind of bride you are, this salon has something for you with a ride range of styles, silhouettes, and price ranges. Bottom line, I highly recommend this salon to any bride-to-be. My wedding dress shopping days are long gone, but these days I've been living vicariously thru my sis-in-law who's tying the knot next year. We've made a few stops to find "the dress," - one of them being Dimitras, where many of my friends have had luck. Like most bridal shops in Chicago I'd highly recommend making an appointment, especially on a Saturday. For some reason most bridal stores tend to be closed on Sundays (including Dimitras), which means all the brides come out to play on Saturdays. We had our appointment with Tina, who was nice, young and hip. Most importantly she seemed to understand what my sister-in-law was looking for in a dress. Dimitras isn't quite as high end as some of the other bridal stores (Ultimate Bride and Belle Vie to name a few), but they have some great designers and lots to choose from. They seem to display all (if not most) of their dresses on the floor, which is nice so that you don't miss anything. Some of the more popular designers that they carry are Alvina Valenta and Pronovias, among others that I had never heard of. You won't find Vera Wang, Monique & Carolina here, but then again those designers come with a hefty price tag. Tina suggested some great dresses. My sister-in-law looked fabulous in most of them and she left with a few good options. There wasn't one that stood out as "the dress," but based on the selection I think many brides wouldn't have trouble finding "their dress" here. read more

It was the first bridal store I visited and they were very patient as I described what I was looking for and suggested that I go through the dresses to help illustrate what I wanted. My consultant, Mendy, then pulled suggestions for me that were all within my budget. She was fabulous about listening and reacting to my feedback and finding other dress suggestions. After coming back 3 times (with my parents, friends, and my wedding planner), I decided on a Matthew Christopher lace dress that Mendy found for me. She even suggested I wait a few days to buy it so that I could get a trunk show discount on it! She also phoned the designer to make sure they were able to do a custom alteration on the train (and would do it at no extra cost!). Her service was without a doubt above and beyond my expectations! I never once felt rushed (though I did try to go on off-peak hours) or pressured to spend more than I was comfortable with. read more

I visited Dimitras on Black Friday and it was my first time trying on wedding dresses. Overall the experience was very positive and I had a fun time with my mom. The consultant was very helpful and gave us a few tips to help us through the whole process since we were newbies. I didn't end up choosing a dress from there but it was definitely in the running. They were offering 10% off for Black Friday weekend so that was a nice perk. They also offered to ship the dress to somewhere other than Chicago to save on sales tax. If I had any comments it would be to offer water since we had to ask once we were getting fairly parched towards the end of the appointment. Little treats like chocolates or a sip of champagne would have made the experience special as well. The salon is also a bit hard to find as it is up on the third floor of the building across the street from Gibsons. read more

Just a quick update because I am disappointed to have had many additional brides reach out and share their almost identical experience that has happened since I posted this! Prior to posting to Yelp, I shared my feedback directly with Dimitra's and their response was exactly this: "We have addressed this and taken every possible measure to correct the behavior and ensure that this will never happen to another bride again." So if you are reading this Dimitra's...clearly whatever you addressed didn't work. It leaves me thinking, this has to be coming from the top. Some of the gals that reached out to me shared almost exact bait and switch pricing "Alterations started at $900, then went to $1200, then went to $1500" and feelings like they had to oblige or the dress would be ruined or they wouldn't have time to go elsewhere. I just find it hard to believe that a legit operation would allow one employee like my original post referenced to operate like this and not lose her job, therefore I can only assume this is standard practice. I also had the pleasure of working with Alicja, and had a wonderful experience! In fact, the first dress I tried on was the dress I bought! My budget was $5,000 and my wedding was 8 months from the date of my visit. No rush charges applied! Dimitra's was my first bridal salon I visited and I had a specific Pronovias dress "The Ramir," that I thought was "IT!" Alicja told me that dress was part of the 2019 spring collection and it wouldn't be available in time for my October wedding. She could see I was bummed, but said, "I can tell the style of dress you are interested in, lace or a jeweled bodice and trumpet skirt," and came back with 5 great options. The first one was very similar to the my top pick, it was by designer Enzoani "Melinda," dress. Both my mom and I liked it, and I tried on a few more and when the appointment was almost done, she asked if I had any other appointments? I said yes, and mentioned Ultimate Bride and Mira couture. Her response, "good and try on more dresses and make a decision!" I was shocked! No pressure at all and I get to try on more dresses?? Sounds like a plan! 2 salons later in the same day, and 15 more dresses later....I kept comparing every dress to the first one! And I knew towards the end of the last appointment, I was heading back to Dimitra's! I rang the bell, and sure enough, Alicja answered and said, "you're back!" I asked to try on the dress again, and she said definitely, and asked the famous "are you saying yes to the dress?" And I said, "I'm saying yes to the dress!" Out came the champagne and order was placed! They also altered my dress, Agnes did a wonderful job! It looked absolutely beautiful and fit perfectly! An overdue review on the post-purchase experience at Dimitra....2 thumbs up to the tailor who did an awesome job in altering my dress... The alteration experience, however, is probably one of the most stressful experiences in the entire wedding planning process... A sales lady is always at your appointment talking you out of every alteration other than hemming and bustles...well, i get that since it's a "fixed price"...the least they do, the more they make...but then again, a $800 alteration fee for just fixing the hems and bustles when one can obviously see the material were "bunching" up along the side seams or end of the zipper were sticking out like a little piggy tail? or threads or laces sticking out from the brand-new dress?! The sales lady always attributed these to "o..you can just steam/press it, it will be fine"....uhmm.....if it's really just pressing, then doesn't that mean they fail to do a better pressing job before the fitting appointment? read more

I had a pleasant experience at Dimitra's with Ismini and Tina! The girls made the entire process more fun than imagined. Once I told them my budget, they pulled out a ton of dresses for me to try on: Marchesa, Zuhair Murad, Atelier, Reem Acra, Pallas... I was most impressed with the Marchesa and Murad gowns. Given I just tried on some dresses, and my wedding is this May, I was told I needed to find a dress promptly to have it on time. I was conflicted between the Murad a-line gown and the Marchesa mermaid style... but towards the end of the fitting, they realized the Zuhair Murad gown could NOT be ready by mid-May for my wedding. The Murad gown was very elegant, and my family loved it; however, the Marchesa style I wanted was the sole winner. It was everything I wanted: style (mermaid), color (ivory), fit (sexy and elegant), bodice (tailored and boned), embroidered and sequined tulle (beautiful), train (embroidery/sequins extend throughout), and matching veil (stunning). They pulled out a Malis Henderson veil that beautifully complemented the Marchesa dress. I was sold. I also bought a Keveza belt that we strapped to the Marchesa dress. It blended so naturally and gave the dress and waist that oomph we wanted. I also opted for the crinoline to be built into the dress, as opposed to wearing a separate garment. They can do it, and it's much nicer this way. Once we said Yes to the Dress, we all celebrated with a champagne toast over laughs. They have hair accessories, as well. A one-stop shop. I'd highly recommend, and I'd especially recommend Ismini! Loved her! read more

I would recommend this bridal salon, but I would familiarize yourself with which designers they carry. Then I would look online at those particular designers' websites and take down the style number you are interested in. I suggest this because they have a large selection of dresses, so describing the dress you want will only get you so far. The sales woman that helped me was very nice, but on my initial visit (did not have any style numbers at this point) the majority of the dresses she brought out that she thought I would like were NOT what I wanted. The second time around I gave her 4-5 style numbers and they had the majority of the dresses. And because she was able to understand what I was looking for with those examples to guide her, my appointment was more fruitful. They carry accessories as well as mother of the bride dresses, which we didn't take advantage of, but it's definitely gives you a complete bridal experience. The bridal salon is clean and well lit. And the dresses are well maintained and stored in plastic garment bags. I gave them 3 stars versus 4 because if I didn't come back the second time with my style numbers I don't think the sales woman would have been able to pull anything I would have been interested in. read more

I was looking for two dresses for my November 2021 wedding weekend, one for a church ceremony and the other for another ceremony and reception. The shopping experience in September of 2020 was great and I took advantage of a Berta trunk show where I even received a complimentary veil. I ordered extra lace as I wanted to make custom straps which cost a bit more than expected (and ended up with a lot of extra lace that as not used), but I went with it as that was my vision. When the dress first came in, it was a bit snug but I was not super concerned until my first fitting. The dress was so uncomfortably tight that I had to keep taking breaks to unzip the dress during the fitting because I kept almost passing out. I was concerned that my measurements could have been taken incorrectly or that the wrong size was ordered. It took a few fittings for the seamstress to completely understand that I could not wear the dress as it was and once the owner got involved they worked together to get it to a more manageable fit without losing the integrity of the dress. I wish the fittings had not been such a struggle as I had to constantly tell the seamstress how uncomfortable I was/she could see I was not doing well, but in the end I was able to wear the dress all day and I felt beautiful. read more

I bought my dress here. They had me fill out a profile, and they selected dresses for me based on what I told them. They also took a leap and had me try on some dresses that they thought I might love even though I had not talked about them. They were right. They picked out a mermaid dress for me even though I was looking at trumpets and that is the dress I ended up with! It's very pricey here, and dresses can go up to $10,000. But if you come in with a budget of $4,000 you can get a wonderful dress too. I give them four stars only because they sort of blew me off about a veil. I really wanted the same kind of A+ treatment with picking out a veil, and they told me I could just get one anywhere at anytime. But I need veil help too! read more

My fiancé (who is not on Yelp hence why I'm posting this on her behalf) went to Dimitra's on the recommendation of our wedding planner (LK Events - who was beyond amazing). We were getting married in about ten weeks so understandably she was not going to be able to custom order a dress. Note this is a second marriage and due to many timing issues we had a short engagement. My fiance showed up on time for her appointment at the store. However when she entered the store not one person greeted her or acknowledged she was there nor did anyone come out for over 15 minutes. Really?? When the consultant finally did come out she half apologized and then quickly asked when her wedding was. Funny my fiance had noted this when she booked the appointment but when she told the consultant it was in ten weeks the woman was very condescending to her noting that there was almost zero chance she would ever find a dress and basically made her feel like crap for coming in so late and basically ruined the whole buying experience for her. Btw It was not a budget issue as she could spend as much as she'd like. She tried on some dresses that were in stock but couldn't find anything. The consultant then said she would follow up which she finally did three weeks(?????) before the wedding. Happily our wedding planner steered us to a first class store that has been around forever that understand and guided my fiance wonderfully through the process. A very positive wonderful experience and she found an amazing dress. Look Dimitra's - selling is all about the experience and you totally botched it with arrogance and condescension. Had such a horrible experience in this store, we've never seen such poor customer service. Woman helping us didn't even introduce herself, said no to any question we had, told us to "go find it yourself", and clearly didn't care to make this a pleasant experience for an exciting occasion. Stay away! They made my fiancé put down a $350 down payment. Rescheduled her to a time that did not work. They refused to refund the amount initially, after explaining they offered to refund a partial amount. Guess what, they lied! No refund was ever issued! Scammers gonna scam. I very rarely use yelp, but I felt it's important for every bride to know of the discrimination and mistreatment of it's minority customers. I'll make this to the point. I came into this shop with my mother in July and had the most horrible time. We should up on time for our appointment and were asked to sit in the seating area while there were plenty of able bodies to help us and there was no one else in the store. While waiting for my stylist, another bride walked in, a Caucasian bride (I am Asian as well as my mother), and she was assisted right away. Seems fishy right? Then during our appointment I was shown maybe 2-3 dresses and was given very little time to try on the dress and was put on the spot to make a decision even though I clearly said that the dresses weren't for me. The stylist didn't even bother to pull more dresses for me and just wrote down the one that I didn't totally cringe my face to and told me to come back when I am ready to buy. All the while this other bride who showed up after me is getting as much time as she would like and has 2-3 stylist helping her. Do not go here. There are plenty of shops in the area that will treat all of it's customers fairly. read more

I had a really bad experience at this store while trying on wedding dresses. I found a picture of dress that I really liked online and found out that Dimitras carried it. I called the store and asked if they had a sample of this dress and asked for the cost. They said they had the dress and quoted an amount that was within my price range, so I happily made an appointment. First things first: the store reeked like cigarette smoke. I'm pretty tolerant of smoke, being a smoker once upon a time, but it was overwhelming and gross. Also the samples were dirty and not in good shape. I tried to overlook that, but it just went down hill from there. To make a long story short: the consultant was not good. She didn't listen to anything I said about what I wanted or didn't want and kept pulling dresses that had everything I said I didn't want- and when I told her I wasn't interested in trying on the dresses she pulled that were lace and full of beading, which I specifically said I didn't want, she seemed very offended. She actually huffed at me a little bit and said "well, I think it's a good dress for you." Well, sorry, lady. I don't care what you think. She pulls the dress I called about and I try it on. I really like it, so we throw on the veil and my mom and I are talking about it. The consultant comes back and tells me that the dress is almost $1000 more than what I was quoted on the phone. I told her that called before and they quoted me a price of $X. She pulls the tag and says, "oh. I guess that's right." So, where, exactly did she get the first price? Was she trying to scam money out of me? I couldn't answer that for sure, so I decided that this was not a business I wanted to have any further dealing with. Next! read more

An absolute must if you are looking for your dream dress! You must ask for Nancy!!! She was so knowledgeable and warm when helping me find my dream dress. She listened to my vision and personal style and I found my dress the first one I tried on! Dimitras is inviting and feels comfortable after being there for 5 minutes! This was the third and last stop on the Bridal Gown Hell Train and honestly, by the time we got here, I was in no shape to try on another dress. The trip up the good ol' Ike made us fifteen minutes late, so I jumped out of the car and ran up the stairs just to make sure they didn't think we were a no-show. Thankfully, they were also running late, which was great since my mom & sisters were trying to find a place to park (tip: just suck it up and park in Water Tower's Self Park. It's $22, but you won't be sweating when you get to your appointment). Of all the places I went to, the gowns on display here were the most exquisite! I loved that they have one full wall of mirrors with four of those little platforms for brides to stand on right next to each other--I could have easily spent my appointment just looking at the gorgeous gowns that the other girls had on! Lumi (I think that's her name? I lost her card...she introduced herself as "the only one with the funny name") was my consultant, and she was so helpful and so respectful of my budget. She gave me great tips on finding the dress "for me"--I was so caught up in the beauty of the dresses that I wasn't really thinking about how it fit into my "vision" for the wedding. Perhaps that's because I don't really consider my wedding to have a "vision"...David Tutera would die if he met me. Anyway, she's super sweet and very professional. She put me in four gowns, and I loved two of them, which were $200-300 under my budget ($1500), and she never pressured me to buy--she even encouraged me to stop by again and try on the San Patricks that I loved once more. I couldn't have asked for a better experience...save traffic, but that SO has nothing to do with this review! P.S. if you're not a "budget bride" like myself, the girl next to me was trying on ginormous blinged-out princess gowns in the $4000-$8500 range...there's a little something for everyone here! I had extremely high hopes for this place as I read many reviews which were promising. The initial experience was fabulous, as Alicja closely listened to the style and details of the dress I am looking for. I emphasized my budget of $3500 and reassured me she has a few dresses in mind. I tried on Monica, a Kenneth pool, a beaded gown with a low cut and sheer back and was completely in love, and impressed what a great match my stylist selected!! I was ready to buy, but then the price is announced, $6000, almost double what I clearly stated (and reiterated) what my budget was. I was close to tears... And kept thinking how could this happen, my dream dress double what I can afford. The few other gowns Alicja showed me all were well over $5000 and I was just startled and confused. I was completely crushed and disappointed. In my opinion this is a big no no, someone showing a vulnerable bride something she could never afford. 5 stars for beautiful dresses, 0 stars for stylists not listening to clients' budget and getting someone's hopes up, then leaving them crushed.
