I've heard this place has been popular for Chinese food for many and I've finally made it here to see for myself. The decor throughout the restaurant gives you all you'd expect from a legit Chinese restaurant. The service was as I would hope. Attentive, courteous, and friendly. Ordered lunch specials of lemon chicken and Szechuan beef. All the food was served with satisfying portions and great flavor. I would most likely be visiting Ding How again in the future.

This place was okay. Food wasn't bad but I can't say I enjoyed it either. I went with my go-to Generals Tso chicken and it was different from what I'm used to. I like a more spicy Generals chicken theirs is almost sweet. The portion was extremely large and it could've easily been a shareable plate. The rice was good just a tad dry. I'd much rather pay the same price for a much higher quality dish. I can't complain, it was good enough. I did try a bit of their orange chicken which i did enjoy. Our server was Katie, she was sweet and very attentive. My drink never went empty and I always had exactly what I needed. The place was pretty busy given the time of day. The restaurant was pretty nice and felt authentic. I liked their little fountain pond at the entrance. The music was also suiting which added to the experience. I hear so much about this place and perhaps I just didn't order one of their best dishes. I'd be back to try some more options in the future.

Combination lunch plate with lemon chicken, beef and broccoli, rice, and won tons

Since I was going to be in the area and was wanting some Chinese food, I decided to order from Ding How. I had been here many times in the past but it had been many years ago. I conveniently placed my order online, choosing a combo plate with lemon chicken and beef and broccoli. The cashier was friendly and quick and I was on my way. Based on what I remember, it appears nothing changed on the interior of the building. I found the lemon chicken to be the best part of my meal. The rice didn't seem to have much flavor. I was bummed that I received won tons instead of an egg roll. I'm not sure I'll be back anytime soon, because I feel there are better options out there.

The lo mein does not miss--absolutely delicious. Perfectly cooked noodles, great flavor, and a generous portion. Everything tasted fresh and satisfying. On top of that, the service was amazing and made the whole experience even better. Definitely a spot I'll be coming back to and would recommend to others.

We came here on a Tuesday for lunch. There is decent parking, but it was absolutely packed. We had to circle around a couple of times to wait for someone to leave. There was a short wait, but we were sat pretty quickly. The restaurant is large and well decorated. Our server was very attentive. We started with vegetable spring rolls. I got the lunch special and picked the Mongolian chicken and green pepper steak. I upgraded my wonton chips to an egg roll. My wife got chicken lo mein. The food came out fast and the portions were massive. Everything was delicious and the leftovers reheated well. Their mustard was really strong

Interior view towards the entrance. Packed house. Lovely decor. Clean environment.

Visited solo on Wed 3/25/26@2pm. Plenty of Parking spots. Placed was packed & waited 10min to be seated. Service was quick, efficient & attentive. Ordered egg roll, egg drop soup, triple delight & substituted with fried rice which was delivered promptly. Soup was hot & great especially with a few wontons. Egg roll was huge compared to most other competitors & was delicious. Fried rice was spectacular especially underneath the triple delight, tender melt in ur mouth beef & chicken & the shrimp was cooked perfectly. All fresh ingredients baby corn, celery, sugar snap peas, carrots, cabbage, broccoli & mushrooms were awesomely tasty along with being drenched in their delicious brown gravy. Huge portions so had to box up the remaining dish for a later tasty meal. What a great early dinner at Ding How. Even though its was crowded it was still amazingly quiet inside. I'll definitely be back to try so many other great sounding dishes. Thank you for serving great Chinese food in San Antonio. Revisited Fri 3/27/26 & picked up a to go order, their website only holds the credit card per online order but when u arrive to pick up that's when they do the final billing. Another delicious meal.

Lemon chicken was bland. Rice was disgusting.

I don't understand the good reviews. By far the worst restaurant I've eaten at, not just the worst Chinese restaurant, the ABSOLUTE WORST restaurant. I made the mistake not looking at the photos first as I would of had an inkling about the focus on quantity over quality. Majority of the food was bland and cold. Our family ordered the lunch specials and here are the summaries for each order: 1. Lemon Chicken- extremely large portion, sauce lacks depth, and rice is a weird texture and not like any fried rice I have ever seen. It is more like days old boiled rice that wasn't quite fried. The sauce is some type of red sauce. I could not eat the rice. 2. Sweet and Sour Pork- again, extremely large portion, sauce had no flavor and had too much gelatin or cornstarch. It was as if they microwaved it beyond the acceptable temperature and then cooled down into a goop. The meat tasted very old. The food was served cold with the rice and was all inedible. 3. Mongolian Beef- served cold and flavorless with the rice. 4. Mongolian Chicken- served semi-warm and flavorless. Served with the rice. Other food we ordered and here are the summaries for each: 5. Crab Rangoons- a misnomer as there was zero crab or even crab flavor in these. Just a dollop of flavorless cream cheese. 6. BBQ Pork Ribs- extremely chewy. It took over 30 minutes to eat one. I believe these had been previously cooked and then put either in a fryer or oven way past cooking time. This made the meat tough and inedible. 7. Egg drop soup- was decent and came out before the rest of the food. 8. Egg Roll- very large and tasty. This is the only item I actually ate in full. It came out before the food. 9. Iced Tea- served unsweetened and not much of a flavor. Service The server was pushy and wanted my husband to share his soup. He did not want to and she still brought 4 bowls despite asking for 2. Also, the servers are zigzagging everywhere with their carts. The food carts used to serve the food are dirty and have not been cleaned in a long time. Gratuity is automatically added (not sure for how many people). Ambiance Tables too close together and many people talking loudly. Waiting area crowded and as aforementioned, servers and other workers zigzagging through tables and crowds. Everything has years of accumulated dirt such as the restroom and walkways and the serving carts. Conclusion I don't understand the appeal of this place. I always saw this building but never ate here and after trying it I will never return. I don't know what Chinese food people have been eating to believe that this is the best Chinese food around.

Excellent Chinese food and service is very friendly. I've been here for lunch and have done take-out. Call ahead for take-out and they'll have it ready when you arrive. My favorites were the wonton soup and shrimp fried rice!

Best Egg Drop Soup! The egg rolls are huge and do not disappoint! We shared the Orange Chicken but it was too spicy for me, but easily enough food for two!

Burrito looking Egg Roll

We ordered for pickup Lemon Chicken and Combination Fried rice and 2 egg rolls and I am glad we did because this place was busy. I am not sure what happened to there egg rolls they looked like greasy burritos, I prefer the regular looking egg rolls so I did not try these, but the Lemon Chicken was crispy and flavorful.

Ding How has been around my whole life. I've been there as a small child, teen and into adult years. They have received a lot of my money. It's that good. Mostly have ordered to go but it's a real treat to sit in the restaurant and take in all the culture. The service is always amazing and they are always smiling. The food has been consistently good since I was a small child. Never a miss and still in my opinion have the best lemon chicken and the best egg roll. Can also say their orange chicken is also the best. If you have never been to the Chinese restaurant on stilts- you are missing out. Go check them out.

Our baby trying lo mein
Joanna E.

My boss always orders from here for business meetings which is how I found out about the place, so now for my birthday she always orders from here because I love their chicken lo mein. This year for my birthday I took my hubby and kids to the actual restaurant. My eldest had a kids plate. My hubby got beef lo mein and I got chicken lo mein. The baby ate from both of our plates and she loved it. The portions are great! The owners were there and they were so nice to our daughters. They gave both of our kids a handful of fortune cookies before leaving :)

Sarra G.

This place is always busy which speaks for itself, the parking was challenging and searing tight and obviously popular. The service was good and surprisingly quick for how busy it was. Our food was good, large portion sizes.

I don't think it's truly authentic Chinese food, but an in between little diner with great and attentive service, reasonable prices and a lot on their menu. What we ordered came out super quickly and all the dishes were very good. We got egg drop soup (delicious), one stir fried seafood dish (shrimp and scallop- so good!), shrimp fried rice (great), the General Tso's beef (my husband loved this!), chicken lo mein. Generous portions for all dishes. I am sure this place is great for to go also because they must have had 25 to go orders in the 45 minutes we were there to eat.

It was coated with flour like fried chicken instead of corn starch which it should be Couldn't taste the black bean sauce although the sauce was strong Sweet and sour soup was full of good items but so much pepper it made me cough Soups are in tiny cups they call small bowls White rice is good and sticky Shrimp with lobster sauce is nothing like it should be, mostly corn and tasteless, I mean tasteless like water Not the usual recipe others serve. The beef rice noodles were like I would make from a reg pan at home without, again, taste. They need that wok taste but it's not there So disappointed, not cheap either , easily $18 a plate Place was clean and looked decent but what good is that if the food is lousy?

I ordered the crispy dumplings (pork) and spring rolls as appetizers, and the spicy noodle soup as my entree. My server came to take my order, and brought me the items as they were ready. The entree came out before the appetizers. The spicy noodle soup was spicy (as named) and it was good, but it was incredibly oily and the noodles were overcooked, so I didn't eat much of it. I would definitely recommend ordering this with rice, or taking it home and making your own. The dumplings and spring rolls were crispy, but nothing special. I did like the duck sauce they had -- I would have asked my server for more of it, but she was busy in the back or something, not sure. I wish she would've checked in on me a bit more during the visit so I could have gotten more napkins and sauce. The service was alright. I wish I would've gotten checked on a little bit more, but she was nice and helped me pack my noodles to go. Overall, this spot wasn't terrible, but if I had to choose, I'd probably try another place.

The lunch specials came with soup and egg roll, and fried rice. DH ordered his litmus test dish for American style Chinese- General Tso chicken. The portion was generous. The sauce was tasty. The chicken pieces tasted like your average frozen nuggets tossed in sauce. It's that familiar "seasoning" to the chicken and coating- iykyk. Not bad at all, just not the best. He enjoyed his egg drop soup. I opted for Hunan Beef. The sauce was thicker than I prefer, with an almost gelatinous consistency. The hot and sour soup was nice, a little more sour than hot. We both thought the fried rice that came with lunch was a little bland. Maybe the entree version is better? Each special was under $10, and it's definitely a great value.

It was the in between time of late lunch 2:30-3pm so we thought we would miss the Sunday afternoon church rush. The parking lot and restaurant was full but didn't let it scare us. Only had to wait 5 mins. Don't let the full restaurant fool you. The wait staff checks in often and moves tables very fast. Pro tip- you can hang outside and check out the koi fish in the pond to kill some time Sat down and drinks came out fast ordered dim sum which came out in the cute steam baskets first. Shrimp Shumai and pork bao buns were so good. My kids asked for seconds We also ordered the sweet and sour chicken, spicy eggplant/tofu, shrimp& broccoli and the combination fried rice. Everything was perfectly seasoned with the exception of the sweet and sour chicken. It was very bland. Next time I want to order the orange peel chicken instead. Looked good and now we know! So much food we'll have leftovers for a few days. Score!

My daughter and I cannot recommend this restaurant. It was better 15 years ago…read more It is too westernize now; meaning the food is more cater/made for western taste. When you walk in up to the restaurant, the view of ponds with large koi fish was very welcoming, however as soon as you open the door/walk in...it's a chaos of sports on tv and western music that will burst your burst your tranquility from the front of the restaurant. The restaurant was busy since it was lunch. We were seated right away. However it took the waitress a few before knowledge our small table. The waitress was in a hurry and look like she already had a bad day. She asked quickly what we would like the drink and we said water and hot tea but ask what type of tea they have? She mumble something I could not understand. So my daughter ask for green tea. We started off with appetizer as usual. Shrimp toast, chicken wrap, Asian bbq ribs then a cup of hot & sour soup. Main dish were Moo Shu Pork and Mongolian beef. Soup came out first...it was lukewarm. Cup was hot but soup was lukewarm. It was vinegary and salty. This is the first time I had seen/tasted imitation crab meat in a hot and sour soup. I'd flag the waitress down to let her know the soup was cold and if she can bring me another or warm it up for me. She gave me an annoying look and took the soup back to the kitchen. The Asian bbq ribs come out then the shrimp toast a few minutes later. The shrimp toast looks appealing. The shrimp were whole shrimp on top of bread, fried bread. It was ok...no real taste and a bit greasy. There were too much honey and chewy/tough for the Asian ribs. My soup comes back hot to touch... which means it was microwave...but not an issues; what was is ...it was still lukewarm soup. I try to finish it but couldn't. Soup needs to be hot; especially hot & sour soup. The chicken lettuce wrap was delivered. It was again salty; no real taste, except for the salt. A lot of mushrooms over powering the this dish. Keep in mind we had a small table and dishes are pilling up. It took a few before anyone came to pickup the plates. Half way through our appetizer, the waitress dropped off Togo boxes with a bag right after the chicken wrap was dropped off.... Staying it's for later. So we went ahead and packup the appetizers into the Togo boxes to make room. The main dishes came out about 10 minutes later. My daughter was very surprised by her Mongolian beef. It looks more like pepper steak then Mongolian beef. Most Mongolian beef are cook with green onions, yellow onion, garlic, sesame seeds and large slices of beef...some with a little sauce other dry so this is a the first for us to see a Mongolian beef looks like that. It was again too salty. There was more bell pepper than beef. The beef was slice small. The moo shu pork come out already wrap?? Which confuse me. Most of the time the thin rice pancake is on the side and moo shu pork is a little sweet and savory that comes with plum sauce so you can spread as little or lot of plum sauce into the rice pancake then top it off with moo shu pork. Since it was all roll up...it was very messy trying to pull it open to put the plum sauce. The dish lack favors...it had a char like taste. Usually moo shu pork is very flavorful and fill with flavorful juice from the ingredients like cabbages, bamboo, onion, mushrooms and eggs. There was no favor except a char taste. I have eaten here before a long time ago and it's definitely not the same taste/food and experience. We pack the food home so we can get a second opinion from other family members and the results were the same. I would never recommend for anyone looking for Asian cuisine. But if you like America/Asian cuisine/atmosphere then this is a place for you.
