Sesame chicken and general Taos chicken with fried rice
    Jordan O.

The good - it was warm and the chicken is certainly white meat. The sesame balls were solid. The ribs had meat on them! The not good - everything else The chicken is tasteless (both of them)...there's a bit of heat...but almost no flavor. In either one - it just tastes like oily chicken with a bit of red pepper (both of them)...even though the sauce is totally different. The one I think is sesame chicken said no veggies, but it had a few veggies in it and that was the best part of it. The fried rice tastes like rice - absolutely nothing in it (maybe it looked at an egg once...but no onion, no carrot, no pork, nothing...and it's also oily). The ribs are decently meaty but they have this weird gelatin style sauce and not that normal red sauce on every other Chinese rib since the beginning of time. If I HAD to eat here again the ribs are the only thing I would get again. The wonton soup has 1 wonton in it each...and the wonton is 99% dough and a few scallions and nothing else in it either...it tastes like watered down broth. It's like they blew their whole budget on white meat chicken and had nothing left over for anything else.

Service is fast and nice. They are customer friendly. Nice atmosphere. If you need to get back to work, but want a nice lunch they have good hustle so that you aren't late getting back. Wonton soup has good flavor. They have a little room in the side for bigger groups. Parking is available in the lot in front. Good portion size for the food and it's tasty.

The service was extremely fast! The restaurant was clean and welcoming. The food was delicious my son and I had lemon chicken and chicken with a side of lo mein. The dinner dishes, come with soup, eggroll or crab Rangoon and steamed rice or lo mein. The food was delicious and the service was great. Will come again.

The service was quick and the portion size for the price and quality was well worth it. The lunch specials are served with rice or lo mein, an appetizer & soup. I had the #12- general tso's chicken, lo mein, an egg roll and egg drop soup for $13. I highly recommend trying it.

Had lunch here with my mom recently. I had been here on a few occasions but never took the time to review it. Even though it was quite busy, we were seated right away. The dining area is a decent size and there is another room towards the back with seating as well. A waiter quickly arrived to bring us menus and take our drink orders. The menu offers a lot of variety, but I opted for the Almond Chicken lunch special. Started off with the hot and sour soup. There were wonton strips provided with the soup to add texture. Our entrees were brought out soon after. The serving was a good size, and was tasty. The fried rice and egg roll were a nice accompaniment. I will definitely return in the future as this is one of the better Chinese restaurants in the city.

My son and I tried this place. Wasn't long wait for a table but it was busy. Parking lot is limited but we were able to find a spot. We were seated and provide with menus. The portion size was good for their lunch special. Very good service and it was clean, meaning the utensils were spotty and neither were the glasses. Definitely going back to try other items.

Great service, restaurant is always clean. Huge portions especially at dinner. Love the chicken corn soup I ask for chives in it.. ordered Lemon Chicken portion is 2 chicken breasts sticker on top of each other with sauce on the side. Everything is fresh and hot. During month of December, you get a wall scroll calendar as a bonus thank you from them. Service is fast and efficient. Definitely a regular go to for me

China Inn continues to be on our regular rotation, but I wanted to tell y'all- don't sleep on that Peppery Pork!! There's no description on the menu so it's hard to figure out what it is, so I am going to tell you! It's not "peppery" as in the vegetable, but it's delicious strips of pork that are breaded and fried in a coating that's reminiscent of KFC, plated atop stir fried onions and dried chili pieces. No sauce. Ohhhh myyy! Crispy, tender, delicious, and one of our new favorites! I think it's underrated and lesser reviewed because people might be afraid to order it by its somewhat vague name, but I am here to happily clear the confusion! Get it, get it, get it!

We met my sister-in-love and brother-in-love for lunch today at China Inn. Lunch specials are available every day of the week. Almost everyone had lunch specials except for me. Lunch specials include soup and egg roll or crab rangoon. My sister-in-love had the Spicy Shrimp and Vegetables, my brother-in-love had the Chicken and Broccoli, hubby had the Triple Delight, Dad had the Lemon Chicken, and I had Orange Beef. Dad's chicken was a bit dry so we swapped it for Tofu and Veggies instead. Overall, the food was good.

I keep getting shocked in San Antonio as I continue to use the Yelp app. This place on the outside look ok but the second I walked in it was already super nice vibe and layout. Then the very first server that saw me was super super nice and enjoyable. Then my server was one of my favorite kinds. He was super nice and friendly and he helped me make my choice for my lunch. He gave such a great recommendation and very many cool details. Then when I got it I was super happy bc it was delicious. Then the side server continued to come and fill my water cup and drop off napkins and anything else. The service here is 100% perfect. The food was delicious too.

Made it back finally as we have been visiting this decades ago when I lived in the area. They are still in the same shopping center right off NW Military Highway and Woodyew. The restaurant boasts a new look at least from what I remembered. Upon entry, we were greeted with a warm smile and fast service. The food was prepared fresh and was very tasty. A must return for us! Enjoy!

I ordered the crispy dumplings (pork) and spring rolls as appetizers, and the spicy noodle soup as my entree. My server came to take my order, and brought me the items as they were ready. The entree came out before the appetizers. The spicy noodle soup was spicy (as named) and it was good, but it was incredibly oily and the noodles were overcooked, so I didn't eat much of it. I would definitely recommend ordering this with rice, or taking it home and making your own. The dumplings and spring rolls were crispy, but nothing special. I did like the duck sauce they had -- I would have asked my server for more of it, but she was busy in the back or something, not sure. I wish she would've checked in on me a bit more during the visit so I could have gotten more napkins and sauce. The service was alright. I wish I would've gotten checked on a little bit more, but she was nice and helped me pack my noodles to go. Overall, this spot wasn't terrible, but if I had to choose, I'd probably try another place.

The lunch specials came with soup and egg roll, and fried rice. DH ordered his litmus test dish for American style Chinese- General Tso chicken. The portion was generous. The sauce was tasty. The chicken pieces tasted like your average frozen nuggets tossed in sauce. It's that familiar "seasoning" to the chicken and coating- iykyk. Not bad at all, just not the best. He enjoyed his egg drop soup. I opted for Hunan Beef. The sauce was thicker than I prefer, with an almost gelatinous consistency. The hot and sour soup was nice, a little more sour than hot. We both thought the fried rice that came with lunch was a little bland. Maybe the entree version is better? Each special was under $10, and it's definitely a great value.

It was the in between time of late lunch 2:30-3pm so we thought we would miss the Sunday afternoon church rush. The parking lot and restaurant was full but didn't let it scare us. Pro tip- you can hang outside and check out the koi fish in the pond to kill some time Sat down and drinks came out fast ordered dim sum which came out in the cute steam baskets first. Shrimp Shumai and pork bao buns were so good. My kids asked for seconds We also ordered the sweet and sour chicken, spicy eggplant/tofu, shrimp& broccoli and the combination fried rice. Everything was perfectly seasoned with the exception of the sweet and sour chicken. It was very bland. Next time I want to order the orange peel chicken instead. Looked good and now we know! When you walk in up to the restaurant, the view of ponds with large koi fish was very welcoming, however as soon as you open the door/walk in...it's a chaos of sports on tv and western music that will burst your burst your tranquility from the front of the restaurant. The restaurant was busy since it was lunch. We were seated right away. However it took the waitress a few before knowledge our small table. The waitress was in a hurry and look like she already had a bad day. She asked quickly what we would like the drink and we said water and hot tea but ask what type of tea they have? She mumble something I could not understand. So my daughter ask for green tea. We started off with appetizer as usual. Shrimp toast, chicken wrap, Asian bbq ribs then a cup of hot & sour soup. Main dish were Moo Shu Pork and Mongolian beef. Soup came out first...it was lukewarm. Cup was hot but soup was lukewarm. It was vinegary and salty. This is the first time I had seen/tasted imitation crab meat in a hot and sour soup. I'd flag the waitress down to let her know the soup was cold and if she can bring me another or warm it up for me. She gave me an annoying look and took the soup back to the kitchen. The Asian bbq ribs come out then the shrimp toast a few minutes later. The shrimp toast looks appealing. The shrimp were whole shrimp on top of bread, fried bread. It was ok...no real taste and a bit greasy. There were too much honey and chewy/tough for the Asian ribs. My soup comes back hot to touch... which means it was microwave...but not an issues; what was is ...it was still lukewarm soup. I try to finish it but couldn't. Soup needs to be hot; especially hot & sour soup. The chicken lettuce wrap was delivered. It was again salty; no real taste, except for the salt. A lot of mushrooms over powering the this dish. Keep in mind we had a small table and dishes are pilling up. It took a few before anyone came to pickup the plates. Half way through our appetizer, the waitress dropped off Togo boxes with a bag right after the chicken wrap was dropped off.... Staying it's for later. So we went ahead and packup the appetizers into the Togo boxes to make room. The main dishes came out about 10 minutes later. My daughter was very surprised by her Mongolian beef. It looks more like pepper steak then Mongolian beef. Most Mongolian beef are cook with green onions, yellow onion, garlic, sesame seeds and large slices of beef...some with a little sauce other dry so this is a the first for us to see a Mongolian beef looks like that. It was again too salty. There was more bell pepper than beef. The beef was slice small. The moo shu pork come out already wrap?? Which confuse me. Most of the time the thin rice pancake is on the side and moo shu pork is a little sweet and savory that comes with plum sauce so you can spread as little or lot of plum sauce into the rice pancake then top it off with moo shu pork. Since it was all roll up...it was very messy trying to pull it open to put the plum sauce. The dish lack favors...it had a char like taste. Usually moo shu pork is very flavorful and fill with flavorful juice from the ingredients like cabbages, bamboo, onion, mushrooms and eggs. There was no favor except a char taste. I have eaten here before a long time ago and it's definitely not the same taste/food and experience. We pack the food home so we can get a second opinion from other family members and the results were the same. I would never recommend for anyone looking for Asian cuisine. But if you like America/Asian cuisine/atmosphere then this is a place for you.

However, my most recent encounter has soured me completely, and I think I will never return. My favorite dish here was something that did not appear on the menu, Bo Tai Chanh salad. Even though it was not listed, they would whip it up at my request. It consists of beef cappaccio on an iceberg lettuce salad with Vietnamese vegetables and a fish sauce based dressing. Tonight they refused my order. What makes this refusal all the more frustrating is that Pho Bo Tai Chanh (the soup version) is listed on the menu and promoted as one of the favorite dishes. All that was needed, to meet my request, was to cut up half a head of lettuce and throw the non-liquid ingredients of the soup on top. Every restaurant should remember the customer is always right. Their only purpose is to meet their customers' requests to the best of their ability. I understand when a kitchen cannot meet requests with the ingredients or equipment they have. For example, I always call 24 hours ahead to order Peking Duck because the traditional methods require that amount of time to prepare the dish. Or I remember being refused a request to have my meat served rare when the restaurant had already cooked all its meat to medium rare using sous vide. I don't expect the kitchen to do the impossible. But every kitchen must be ready to meet special request whether health related like peanuts, shrimp, gluten, salt, carbohydrates, etc. or relate to tastes or ethics like vegetarian, vegans, seafood, etc. To fail one's customers is the first step to being one of the numerous restaurants to fail and become irrelevant. Any restaurant that refuses to meet reasonable requests fails the fundamental test for good service and does not deserve to be patronized. P.S. I end up going down the road to Yaya's Thai Restaurant (another local restaurant) to get something that met my tastes and preferences.
