A little while ago, I brought in a nearly brand new Donald Takayama Model T for a fairly minimal repair. I've had terrible luck with Roper in the past, so I figured I'd try out the North County competition. Board had a golf ball-sized shatter on the bottom (completely flat area of the board) from the nose of a shortboard hitting it. Not the end of the world, but since the board was almost new and had a cream colored tint, I didn't want to do it myself. When I walked in, I placed the board on the rack and we went over what needed to be repaired. I wanted a color match with no hurry on the repair - just a good, clean job. I think it was $65 to fix, a little pricey for one small ding, but with color and a professional repair, deemed it acceptable. Was told it would take a couple days to repair and I'd receive a call letting me know when it was complete. Within 24 hours, I got a call saying my board was finished. It was at this point I was hit with two separate thoughts: 1) wow, that was really fast, I'm stoked to have my board back that quickly, and 2) wow, that was really fast... some would say a little too fast... After already suffering from early signs of separation anxiety, I opted to drive up right away and pick up my board. Butterflies hit me as soon as I could smell the resin, hoping my board came out as expected. I handed the guy my slip and moments later he returned with my board. He set it up on the rack and all I could think was, "crap". The golf ball-sized repair was now closer to the size of a softball and I'm not sure how color match seemed to mean clear with visible q-cel filler - it didn't require filler, as it was only a shatter. Aside from looking horrible, it wasn't even smooth. I figured at the very least, it should have been sanded flat and buffed out, yet there were very notable pits and bumps. As previously mentioned, this was on a completely flat portion of the board that should have been a cake walk to repair. In hindsight, I should have left the board and told them to fix it again. I didn't, so that's on me. I was so annoyed, I just handed over the cash, grabbed my board and left. It was with this single negative experience I'd be hesitant to bring any board to them again, let alone an expensive one. Perhaps they have your rail shatter on your clear 6'0" thruster handled, but I would not take any nice resin jobs there. They got a second star because of the quick turn around time. read more

Dropped off a board for minor dings and to add a stomp pad. Quoted about $60 and was promised it would be done the following monday. Called monday, they said it wasnt done and would be done that thursday. A week later i went in and not only was the board not finished, the stomp pad wasnt put on either. Extremely dissappointed to be quoted TWO different days and the board wasnt even done until three weeks after the original quote date. Definitely lost a customer. Had about 5 more boards we wanted to bring in but ill take them to someone else. read more

Incredibly rude owner and very unprofessional. I was warned by a friend that I would I was going to have by board repaired here that the owner might be a little unfriendly, but he was worse than I would have thought. I had a horrible experience with trying to have my board repaired here. read more

Done the next day, $40 (small ding), quality work. I am happy. Dudes here are very easy going, and can polish off your ding pretty quick unless its something that needs more time. Hope to not have to be back here for a while but would definately give them the nob again. read more

I am not alone here. Be prepared to wait longer than quoted. Dropped off a repair and 11 days later came in to see that it was not even touched yet, just dusty. Never a call to update status or apologize for delays. And this was the second time it happened. First time they were 5 days over quote. Totally unacceptable in any business. Imagine a car repair or item ordered on Amazon and 11 days later, nothing? Hoping someone catches on and opens up a surfboard repair business and runs it right. read more

I brought my first board here, the board that I want to protect for the longest time possible (a locally shaped Stu Kenson with a marbled glassed-in finish) and Ding King not only did a superior job with the hot top on the surface but they made my "ding" seem as if it is nearly invisible. Obviously nothing can be fixed to 100% but I am more than satisfied with their work and for a flat rate of $50 there is no room for complaints. Yup, I did it... drove off without strapping down my brand new race board and watched it hit the road at 30 mph. Could have been a disaster but thanks to Ding King, I have my board back with minimal reminders of the crash. Brian really did a masterful job disguising the repairs with a near perfect match of the paint color and pattern. I took two boards here and they did a quality job on both. One was a buckled nose, and the other needed a fin box replaced. I've had multiple people comment to me on what a great job was done on the buckle, and I always tell 'em "Ding King is the place". I gave them the 5th star because I dropped the boards off early in the week and when I called to see how it was going they asked, "Do you have a board for the weekend? No? Well then I'll bump it up to get it done by Friday.". They did, I picked it up on Friday, and was able to catch the weekend swell that was happening at the time. Great service. read more

This place is the surfboard equivalent of a TJ auto body shop. The epoxy repairs aren't smooth and I could have matched the paint better by going to Home Depot and guessing. I hope the repairs at least hold up over time. read more

I have a magic board that I want to keep alive for awhile. In total, I brought my magic board to them 4 times within a span of 7 years since I've known them. Well, I know the old crew (that's not there anymore) but not the new crew. The old crew were much more professional than the new. Why? Every time I brought my board in, they've automatically painted the area of repair!! They get 10 stars!! This time, my 4th time coming in to pick up my magic board... The guy told me, "I didn't know if you want us to paint it or not?!?" So my solid colored board now has a big huge blob of white where the repair was fixed?!? I'm Stoked that my board is fixed but it doesn't look clean. read more

Slow service (two weeks+ for a simple rail ding), and HORRIBLE looking repairs have happened twice to me here. When it was my craigslist beater board, the stark white filler didn't bother me, since the repair seemed structurally sound and well sanded. When they did it to my almost new, pearly white Kies longboard, I nearly cried. No attempt whatever to match the whites, just STARK white filler under clear gloss. If I has a couple of Home depot power tools I could've probably done as well. Never again. read more

I seem to visit this place frequently due to kooks who shouldn't be at point breaks dropping in on me. But every time I go to Ding King they make it very simple.. drop your board off, show them the repair spot, give them your info,get you quote and wait for a call. They seem to over quote on ETA's but I think it makes it more exciting when you find out your board is done earlier than expected! I had a fin box replacement recently and it cost $40. I think that is fair considering the whole fin box was knocked out at Uppers! Good vibes and Great people here. read more

I had a quite bad ding on my board and had to get it repaired before going back to Europe and taking my board with me. Normally it would take them 5-6 days but I wanted to still catch a few waves at DelMar before flying out so these guys did the job in 24 hours, no extra charge and the the board look like new again. You can tell these guys are super passionate about surfing and doing their job 110%. It was my first time there and still I was treated as a regular. I will keep coming back here. Took my stick into ding king to repair a cracked fin box. Was told that it should be ready within a week, but a week and a half later I called and found out that they hadn't gotten to it yet, but if I was to come in that friday, it would be ready. So I come in saturday morning and lo and behold my board has still not been touched. Finally, later that week I received a call saying that my board was ready, 3 weeks after I had dropped it off.
