My dad got the T-Bone special at medium (originally it was only meant for the 23rd onwards) which was allowed because the original owner was present tonight. My mom got the Certified Angus medium. I got the New York steak for myself at rare doneness. For the soup that came with I upgraded mine to French Onion and my parents took the regular/daily which was also accompanied by garlic bread-ish. Additionally, I got a Long Island Iced Tea and in the process of it caught a conversation between Kitchen and Old Owner that their ice machine is broken so I have NO IDEA where the ice for my drink came from--other than that it tasted fine and the old owner personally made it. T-Bone was not up to par. It was exceedingly tough according to my dad and inconsistently cooked. It was closer to a medium well than a medium rare-medium and subsequently whether from improper prep or age of the cut, it wasn't juicy. From what I witnessed when I did look up at my dad, it was tough to cut no matter how small or large he sliced it. Certified Angus was passable. My mom didn't have many complaints nor praises so take that as you will. Could tell at a glance the vegetables were the family pack frozen ones from Costco. My New York Steak was passable-ish. The fat cap wasn't rendered down properly and the steak itself was slightly tough in certain areas. The doneness was fine at rare, but with all this in mind--if you want a consistent cook medium to well seems to be the way. My problem mainly with the food lies in seasoning and ingredient quality. The vegetables are for some reason visually and texturally rough and fuzzy? They melt in your mouth in the worst way possible. There is no crunch, not even on the carrot. It was mush, plain and simply, same with the mashed potatoes. No seasoning aside from gravy and actual mush it was melting every forkful into my mouth. No hint of garlic, butter, milk or cream--just bland potato mush with gravy. Ambiance? Nothing at all. I don't know what to describe it other than quiet and empty. There was one other table aside from ours and one take-out order. From the bits of conversation with the old owner, I gleaned that at the turnover at first, regulars were aplenty but they tapered off and dwindled as time went on and that looks to be accurate based on reviews here on Yelp and over on Google. Business has been slowing down and much of it is attributed to the declining quality both in service and food/ingredients. The new owners of the establishment bought this restaurant for the brand name but didn't upkeep the standard for food, quality, and service. There's just no business acumen from the new owners from what I can see based on reviews of this year and my experience tonight. The old owner was the saving grace for this visit on Saturday December 20th, otherwise the rating might drop to a 1 or 2 out of 5.

I liked the fluffy Kaiser bun - not flat, not soggy in spite of the saucy fillings. Yes, there were multiple layers of veal cutlets but they lacked veal taste. All I tasted was the deep-fried crust coated with tomato sauce. The size was big, and it is "filling" for sure. We opted for a medium Canadian walk in special, spaghetti and meatballs with a side of garden salad. You need to order at the front and sit down and they call you when the food is ready. I did not try the pizza but my daughter really enjoyed their Canadian. My spaghetti and meatballs came with excellent meatballs but it was a little too saucy for my liking. We only got to sample a bit of the salad but the roasted red pepper that come with the salad was a nice and sweet and you could tell it was roasted in house, not the sour stuff that come out of a jar. Our overall experience was pretty good but I think at this price point, I expected a little more like real plates and cutlery maybe? I didn't love eating my pasta with disposable wooden fork that came pre-packaged with a wooden knife, napkin and a salt and pepper packet which seemed more wasteful than anything. I would come back to try out their sandwiches next time and skip the pasta.

Last night, my friends and I decided to go anyway, knowing the quality was always great... and I'm so glad we did! To my surprise and delight, Chef Vito let us know that all of their pastas are vegan and he could easily modify the sauces to suit my diet. The food was absolutely delicious--it tasted just like the meals I had in Italy. The quality, attention to detail, and service were even better than I remembered. I started with the fennel and orange salad, followed by a beautifully adapted pasta dish, and every bite was perfection. We left so happy that we chose to support a locally owned restaurant instead of a corporate chain. Our appetizers included: complimentary bread, escargot and shrimp, cajun calamari, and a large ceasar salad Our drinks: coffee martini, cosmopolitan, and lychee martini Our mains: trout and scallops, pickerel and shrimp, and seafood di mare The appetizers were great, and the large salad was enough to feed 3 people (could have fed a 4th as we had leftovers). The star in this bunch was really the escargot and shrimp. It came with a buttery sauce that was good with the complimentary bread. The oysters were also fresh and came with salsa and horse radish topping to choose from. The calamari, while good, was overshadowed by the others. It was meant to have a cajun taste, but I did not get that flavouring coming through, but it was still a good app regardless. For the drinks, the lychee martini seemed to be a favourite given the amount of alcohol while the cosmo seemed light on it. So if you're looking for a martini with a fruity kick, I'd recommend going to the lychee martini. The coffee one tasted more like coffee, but it may have been masking the amount of alcohol based on its strong flavor. For the mains, all three were excellent. The seafood di mare is very decadent and heavy. After eating so many appetizers, I barely had any bites, but it did make for some great leftovers.
