We were here last weekend on a brilliantly sunny and beautiful recent autumn day in New York's Hudson Valley. We had traveled the 3 hours from home to pick up a Gustav Stickley console. We love Mission/Craftsman style furniture and found a piece that we had been looking for. It is certainly available new but this piece, in absolutely pristine condition, was being sold by a couple downsizing from their rather large home to a smaller one now that they are retired. After picking up the console, loading it in the pickup truck (that's another story! Lol!) we were ready for a late lunch. We are both fans of good barbecue and had been to another of the Dinosaur locations in Syracuse NY a couple of years ago. We have also been to the Dinosaur location in Newark NJ which has since closed. This location in Troy is in a lovely industrial style building right on the Hudson River. There is plenty of seating inside including at a bar. There is also patio seating and on another side of the building on what they call "porch seating". We wanted to sit outside since it was a sunny almost 80 degree day. Both the patio and porch are covered so happily we could be outside but protected from the sun. The porch where we sat is a smaller space and unlike the interior, it is quiet and relaxing out there. We were greeted warmly by our server whose name I believe was Mike. He was terrific and coincidentally had once lived in the Boston area and was quite familiar with our town. As expected, Tom ordered his barbecue favorite, brisket. I ordered the chopped salad which comes with a choice of protein and I too chose brisket. My salad with the brisket was excellent. It was exactly what I was looking for which was to have some brisket but also a lovely salad. I chose blue cheese dressing on the side which accompanied the salad and the beef nicely. Tom's brisket came with two sides and he chose potato salad and a cucumber salad. We enjoyed our meals immensely. The brisket was tender and flavorful. I had a glass of pinot grigio and Tom had a hard cider. Our server was attentive and very friendly. There was no rush to leave so we enjoyed our meals in leisurely fashion while observing the boats going by on the Hudson River. It was really a delightful experience. The only confusing part is having been told when we entered that the wait was about 30 minutes only to find that in every area of the restaurant there were plenty of open tables...far more than it seemed there were people waiting. They may have a staff shortage but either way our wait was less than 15 minutes. I do recommend a stop in to this Dinosaurs if you're in the area and are a fan of barbecue. read more

I have been visiting dinosaur bbq on a regular basis, and almost every time they have been pretty consistent with their woods. Wings , deviled eggs, fried green tomatoes, nachos are a must try. Yet to have a bad encounter with these orders. For entree ribs has been good most times but sometimes it tends to be on the dryer side. Chicken and pork sandwiches are also pretty good. They also have live music at times, most of the time it's busy, and they have quite a few screens with ongoing sporting events. read more

The service was outstanding. They helped each other when necessary. The food was great. Meat was not overly fatty. The meat could have been a bit warmer. Baked beans and Cold slaw was excellent. We had a reservation for two. They seated us at a table for six and I asked for a different table. Our request was granted without an issue. Soon the table had six seated, everybody wins. The food was insanely good here! The fried green tomatoes are a must try. I actually didn't care to order it but was pleasantly surprised at how delicious, crispy, and flavorful it was. Then, we created our own plate with ribs, brisket, chicken, mac and cheese, and cucumber salad. Everything melted in our mouth. It was more than enough food for two of us to share with leftovers. So excited to have my first in person Dinosaur BBQ experience! My fiance is from Upstate NY and we've had bottled sauce from Dinosaur but I've never had the real deal. Our experience at the Troy location didn't disappoint! I had the Power couple, which was two sliders - 1 brisket and 1 pulled pork, with two sides. I opted for fries and the BBQ fried rice. Some of the best fries I've ever had and the bbq fried rice was good. My fiancé had the brisket Bahn mi and he raved about it. I had a bite and it was delicious. He also had the Mac and cheese which was tasty. Great spot, cozy and not too corporate. Probably would be a great place to watch a game and hang in the summer with it being right on the river. Great, quick and friendly service. Our server checked in just enough. I think the value for the portions and quality was pretty amazing! Food was great as always but...the hostess was not very pleasant asked for booth and was told they were reserved. So we told her anything but the bar area and she put us in the bar area. This place is huge. Tons of seating and parking. Beautiful outside seating along the river with views of the Green Island bridge. There was also additional seating outside under a tent with lights. The parking lot smelled like delicious smoked BBQ meats- always a good sign. We loved EVERYTHING we ate. The brisket was our favorite of the meats moist and flavorful- I tried all 3 BBQ sauces and preferred the original as the others were too spicy for my taste. The macaroni and cheese was yummy and while the fried bbq rice was exactly what it sounds like it'd be I was surprised by the flavor of fried rice and BBQ and how well it went together. We also enjoyed their fries and potatoe salad. My friend also enjoyed her chicken cheesesteak sandwich. You could tell this place is a favorite, and the food is going to be outstanding just based on the clientele. There were families, couples, college students, a young couple who appeared to be going to a high school formal and every ethnicity and age group out there - this place was hopping and it was 3pm on a Saturday afternoon! The husband ordered the brisket sandwich; I had the combo with pulled pork, 1/4 chicken and ribs with Harlem potato salad and spicy cucumber salad. A lot of food, but you can probably see where this is going; what I ordered was suggested by the hubs who had eaten here before, I knew that he was going to end up eating, at least half of my meal as well Delicious! Have been coming here for over a decade now and I never get sick of it. Definitely one of the best BBQ places in the capital region and is a must try if you are in town. The portions are very filling and high quality. My personal favorite is the brisket. I typically get it in a pick two platter, but tried it in a sandwich today and was very satisfied. After a disappointing experience elsewhere, we decided to try Dinosaur Bar-B-Que in Troy -- and I'm really glad we did. From the moment we walked in, everything ran smoothly. We were seated in about a minute, greeted by our waitress shortly after, and had appetizers on the table in roughly 15 minutes. Considering how busy it was, the timing and pacing were seriously impressive. The food itself was excellent -- everything came out hot, flavorful, and at just the right pace so we never felt like we were waiting around. It made for a really relaxed and enjoyable meal. By the end, we were so full from the appetizers and entrees that we had to get dessert to go (not a bad problem to have). Even with a full house, our total time there was about an hour, which felt perfect. Overall, this is exactly what you hope for when going out to eat: great service, great food, and a smooth, well-paced experience. We'll definitely be back. read more

It's been awhile since we have been here and boy are we glad we came! We ordered a rack of ribs as an appetizer and the Family Meal deal- we really wanted a lb of pulled port - What we didn't realize what we ordered came with Pulled pork AND 1/2 a rack of ribs And Chicken plus the 3 sides and cornbread!!! oh my goodness - A lot of extremely tasty food!!! Yum mashed potatoes with gravy- Sweet potato casserole (who needs dessert when you have this!!) mac and cheese ( teen wasn't crazy about the seasoned top but the Adults loved it - All the meats we're seasoned perfectly!! Went here after a business meeting with a bunch of colleagues. I've lived in SC for about 20 years where they are very particular about their BBQ, and Dinosaur's food measured up well! I have the 3 meat combo with pork, 1/4 chicken, brisket, greens, and cucumber salad. I didn't like the cucumber salad too much, the dressing tasted like jar dressing and I didn't think there would be any on it (my fault for not asking first), everything else was outstanding. We also had the sliders as appetizers and I liked them a lot too. The start removed was for the service. The host was clueless (my colleague asked if the BBQ was tomato based and he had no idea what we were talking about, neither did the waitress), he got irritated when we picked a table to sit at rather than just sitting at the bar (we were there at lunch time and they didn't have enough servers for the tables yet), and it took a VERY long time to get our food and no one was eating anything that needed to be made fresh. Updated Review: Tried it again and the food was so much better than the last time. The boiled shrimp was absolutely delicious as was the dipping sauce, The catfish was also delicious and very flavorful and crispy. The cucumber side is spicy, crisp and delicious. The salad is very fresh. My husband had the fried rice side which was delicious. The cornbread was just right with a little sweetness. Great being able to add 2 ribs to the plate for a little extra - tender and flavorful. Excellent espresso martinis. So glad we gave it another try. Though the restaurants first location started in Syracuse NY, did you know the idea for this bikers bar started in the capital region? They have 6 locations throughout NY and had a location in Connecticut, and not sure why that was closed out. Their bar-b-que is nationally acclaimed with southern flavor. They were named the country's Number One BBQ on Good Morning America, have been featured on various Food Network, Travel Channel shows and National Association of BBQ. My go to dish here is the devil's duel chicken wings that are finger licking good. Devil's duel is their spiciest wing and it has the right blend of flavor and spice. We also ordered a fried green tomatoes, nachos, shroom-ben sandwich (Smoked portobello... veggie), full rack of ribs and 5 different sides. We probably over ordered with the intent of taking some stuff back home for lunch the next day. I was here at least once a month but the frequency has gone down between my frequent commutes between capital district and Connecticut. With this commute coming to an end, as the person in Connecticut was complaining that they went out shopping every day in holiday season but never went in a year and half while I was there. The so called person never planned to go as they were busy working 2 jobs till 8pm and trying to make money (but still blame me). I decided to let them do what they want to do and stuck to what I do best, eat, spicy food!! I've never had a bad meal at Dinosaur Bar-B-Que. I had some special dietary needs and they were fully addressed to my satisfaction. This is often a bustling place. Remarkably, when we showed up about 3pm on Thursday, it was still busy but not as crowded as on weekends. Was it late lunch or early dinner? I have no idea, but my husband and I were hungry. Our server, Sierra, is flawless at her job. She immediately introduced herself and asked us what beverages we wished to drink. I went with her recommendations. My drink wasn't too sweet. She filled the orders quickly and then came to ask what we'd like to eat. She said the smoked chicken salad could be served without the tangy, BBQ sauce, which I can't eat. Honey mustard salad dressing on the side. Perfect. The food arrived very quickly. Sierra returned to make sure we were happy with our meals. There was so much food that I had leftovers for a delicious lunch the next day. The restaurant overlooks the River. The views can't be beat. I came with a party of 5, we were told it was a 30 to 45 minute wait but we got sat after 5 minutes. the food was very good and our waitress was very nice. it was very busy so the food took longer but when it came it was delicious. the cornbread is soooo good here! the vibes are great and you can just come for the bar or you can sit down at a table. the only downside is that some of the benches at the tables don't have backs on them so it can get uncomfortable sitting there for a while. overall a great experience! will return! read more

What a fun place with a chill vibe! I'm an out of towner who's a pescatarian and I greatly enjoyed the food. First off on a nice sunny day the view from inside faces the Hudson River and is quite nice! The inside is spacious, rustic and inviting. I was seated immediately and was there for a late lunch. Our server, Allison was very helpful as there were so many tasty sides to choose from on the menu. I was torn between the creamy coleslaw and their sweet and sour coleslaw. I went with the creamy as that is what i gravitate towards. Allison brought me a sample of the sweet and sour slaw to try and asked if I wanted to keep what I ordered or switch. I thought that was really nice of her. She went out of her way to ensure that I would enjoy my sides. So sweet! I loved the corn bread, both the creamy and sweet and sour coleslaw as well as the fantastic fries, bbq pulled pork, brisket and St. Louis ribs. I especially enjoyed the tasty well seasoned and tender fall off the bone ribs. It isn't something I would barbecue smoke in my own home, so definitely a treat when done right. The mac and cheese had a hint of cajun spice and was cheesy and creamy. I also like the greens and baked beans, yum! Also as you might have guessed from some of my other reviews, I am a condiment lover. I really really liked their house made original barbecue sauce, as well as their garlic chipotle pepper sauce. My roommate stop by there last week and offered to grab me some food. I wanted to try sampler of a sliders: Burger, a brisket, and a pulled pork along with a side of macaroni and cheese. it was packaged well. I took a bite of the macaroni and cheese and I breathed in chili powder and thought I was going to die. I just don't think chili powder is something you should top macaroni and cheese with without having it written out very well on your menu. I didn't see it when I went to the online menu. It was an overwhelming flavor and I can't eat chili's because I my stomach is cursed so I was very unhappy inhaling breathing in eating that first bite of chili powder. My other issue is at overwhelm the macaroni and cheese I don't even know what it tasted like. My roommate finish the macaroni and cheese and it he didn't seem to mind the chili powder. I really do miss being able to eat anything with Chili's in it. I didn't really care for the brisket slider or the pulled pork sandwich. It wasn't horrible I think I just didn't care for all the toppings they each had. I did have a hamburger slider and I thought that was really good. I wasn't so fond of the mustard sauce but it wasn't so spicy that it irritated my stomach. I think I would have preferred a different sauce or just plain ketchup. What I liked most about that burger is that they made it rare. When you get a hamburger it should be made rare if you want it rare. There are places that don't do that so when someone makes a rare Burger when I ask for a rare Burger I commend that. It really hit the spot. That burger was a five star but the rest for me one star which is why I'm giving it to stars. I haven't been to the Dinosaur Barbecue in a long time. I know it has a nice atmosphere. It's right on the river. I don't think I cared for the food the first time I went. If I ever go again because someone else wants to I will definitely be ordering the burger and I will definitely make sure that they don't put chili powder on anything I eat. read more
