This is probably one of the strangest parks that I have ever frequented... probably because I don't really view it as a "park". At any given time, you will probably find graffiti sprayed on the ground and rocks, beer bottles, cigarettes, and sometimes even broken glass. I always make it a point to look down at the ground when I do decide to take a short stroll through the trails. And when I say short, I mean SHORT! The longest trail is probably only about a quarter mile long. However, I don't come here to walk the trails. This place ironically provides me with a sense of solace during my time of need. You can say what you want about the upkeep, but this park has some of the most amazing views of the East Bay. In the summertime, I come here often just to take in the beautiful views of Mount Diablo. I've come here during the Fourth of July to watch the fireworks and it has always been amazing. Although I enjoy hiking, there are those times when I don't feel like hiking for miles just to get to a view point. I can just take a short drive down Taylor boulevard, park my car and post. There have been times when I don't want to go out but I don't want to be stuck at home. When I feel like this, I will often hop in my car and drive to this park. Sometimes I don't even get out of the car. I'll just bump my music and roll my seat back and just relax. The parking lot is small and has maybe about 8 parking spots maximum, but it is almost never full. People don't stay here for a long time, so there usually are always a few parking spots available. I've had quite a few memories coming here and it almost always ends up being so nostalgic when I visit. I've never walked down to the creepy old house nearby because, well... it just looks super creepy! I don't need to walk down there to find that out; I can already feel it from a distance. When they DO take the time to clean this place up, it's actually not half bad. It's one of my favorite places to go when I need to clear my mind. I'm so happy that this place even exists. read more

Hahah This park is laughably bad. Of course, I wasn't stoned and there's no nostalgia factor for me. I just took it on face value and damn, what a disappointment. Small parking lot for 4 cars + 1 handicapped spot, just in case you wanted to take your wheelchair up a dirt hill covered in broken glass and graffiti to drink your 40 in peace. This might be an okay vista point for fireworks on the 4th of July, but even then you're better off going to the Martinez Marina - at least there you can throw your cigarette butts into the delta and bypass the grassfire hazard. As we got in the car on the way out, we scared the shit out of a bunch of middle school girls passing around a bong in their parents' Honda. If you're looking to get smoked out by Hannah Montana, this is your park. We shall not return. read more

I often take the Pleasant Hill Road exit off Highway 24 to get to Gayle's house. Unless I want to pick up some groceries at Lunardi's, I go left at Taylor and proceed on past signs directing me to places such as the Buddha Gate Monastery and Dinosaur Hill Park. On the way home yesterday from another trip to the Lafayette Reservoir, we decided to satisfy our curiosity and see what Dinosaur Hill Park was all about. This park is really more of an open space and judging by the broken glass and charred combustion remains, it's a popular (and maybe borderline) evening hang out spot. There are several places to walk around and the views are stunning in a panoramic way from Martinez to Walnut Creek. There is a small parking lot off this busy road and no facilities (including restroom) are available. The lack of park development is probably just fine by the neighbours, although the fire danger from the possible evening camp fires might give me pause. read more

I love this park and the view over-looking our beautiful Diablo Valley. I can remember hiking up the narrow stairs with my sister and walking across the rocks away the top and down to the bench to sit and chat. The park closes at dusk but it's small so it doesn't take much time to explore the whole thing anyhow. read more

This park in Pleasant Hill CA is only cool for teenagers that want to drink 40 oz and smoke out. The only problem is there are few escape routes for them if they get caught... LOL The hiking is horrible the parking is horrible ...and there is a super creepy abandon old house on one end that looks like it could be home to all kinds or horrible things. The place is all boarded up and probably one of the creepiest things I've seen in a Pleasant Hill park or rec area. Taking the family out for a picnic... skip this place for sure... Want a decent vista to see all of Mt Diablo, Pleasant Hill, and Walnut Creek... You may want to stop by. It is a quick 45 second walk from the parking area to the top vista area. That is about the coolest part about Dinosaur Hill Park in Pleasant Hill. If you want a better vista in Pleasant Hill I'd go to Paso Nogal or the top of the old Hangman's Reservoir off Taylor Blvd... The Taylor Blvd Hangman's Reservoir is the best place in Pleasant Hill to see 4th of July fireworks. read more

I practically lived here when I was a kid. From 4th of July fireworks, to the burial ground of my dead pet rat (probably not supposed to do that I know), this was my home away from home before the age of 10. I like to attribute my lack of skill at video games to all the time I spent outside as a kid NOT playing them. Dinosaur Hill certainly played a huge role in my adventures, and is indelible childhood memory. Dinosaur Hill is really more of an open space with no play equipment or designated facilities, and probably not the best for small kids as they might get bored. I do believe there is still a tiny parking lot right off Taylor Blvd, but that is about as developed as the area has gotten to my knowledge. For those of you familiar with D Hill in the 1980's, perhaps you will recall when half its 13 acres was charred to a crisp by some dumb kid. No it wasn't me, it was my friend Sheldon, and we weren't allowed to play with him after that. read more

Although the space is a little unkempt, it's a nice place to watch the sunrise. However, you'll have to get there first or second to get a park, because although the gates close at dusk they don't open at dawn. In fact they don't seem to unlock them until well after sunrise, since we were there for at least an hour after that time and they were still not open when we left. read more

Not a park in the traditional sense. Amazing view over the east bay and mount diablo. We watched the mount diablo fire from the top of dinosaur hill and it was (tragically) breathtaking. Best views are at night. It feels like one of those old timey places that kids in the 50's would park and make out in their cars. Sometimes old people will be there doing just that! And sometimes cops pull in to see what's up...oh the lolz when old people get "busted" for necking! Pretty sure the cops are just looking for drug use...and besides the occasional stoner, it's a pretty clean little spot. In high school, we used to take the ouija board up here on Halloween and freak each other out. On a spooky night it does have that creepy zodiac killer kinda vibe. read more

As others have mentioned, it's not a park in the traditional sense. Minimal parking with a tiny hike (only calling it a hike coz one must hike oneself up the short hill for the view... It takes 30 sec) to the top of a hill, and there's a little area to sit on a rock. No bench. You either have an experience where you see a wide swath of an amazing view, or you have shady people coming/going who seem like they are making deals with others who are coming/going. But other than that... Amazing view. read more

The only good view spot in Pleasant Hill. I love watching fireworks or catching a good sunset here. Not sure if they put the bench back in but last time I went the bench by the tree was gone. When we were teenagers we used to go to the "abandoned haunted house" on the hill. After you walk up the steps and your at the top go to your right (goes down than up) then veer to the left and go up that slight hill and you will see a brown house with boarded up windows, you can see it on Google Earth. This is the same house that if your driving on Pleasant Hill Road right in front of P.H.E. (going in the direction towards Withers Ave.) and right before you go around the turn if you look up on the hill you can see it. You can also see it from Withers Ave. I'm not sure why this house is so mysterious to me, I have tried to find out more information about it for years! When I was younger we "broke in" to the house and saw that the inside was never finished, it was meant to be a 2-story home but the stairs where never built (but there was a ladder inside) it just has frames for the walls. It's very creepy, I don't think it can be haunted because it doesn't seem like anyone even got the chance to live there but it definitely is creepy!!! I suggest checking it out, it's weird to see something like that in Pleasant Hill. I'm confused why it was never torn down, they took the time to board it up with "No trespassing posted by the Sheriff" sign on the boards. Weird. read more
