They have the worst customer service I have ever encountered. We have had DirecTV for 10+ years and not once have I been able to call them and it take less than 1 hour to complete the call. When they say they are coming out for service they never show up or are always late without a call and then want to schedule weeks out. What's happened to direct TV? I've been a customer for almost 20 years now and can't express how unhappy I am with the service and billing the last year. We had updated boxes brought in last year that still don't work with the remote. The installer told us if we continue to have problems it would cost us $99 to have them come back out to look at it, or for $8.99 more a month we could purchase insurance. Why do I need insurance for your equipment ? Also this last year my bill has increased $40 more a month with no changes. We had a couple of promotional discounts that have expired and ATT doesn't offer any new promotions. When our equipment was updated they made us sign up for a two year contract, than they raised our bill. So disappointed in this company after all these years . read more

I moved to Elk Grove in January of 2018. We got Direct TV to get our internet access. After a little over a year, we disconnected this service (too expensive and occasionally our system would freeze and we'd have to reset to box). Anyway, we sent back all of their equipment, but no one ever came to remove the dish they placed on our roof. I tried to call to get this done, but was told that since we are no longer their customer, I had to find some local technician to come and remove this (which meant I had to pay some private party to do this). I said that this was unacceptable and since they put it up, they should be able to remove it. They again said that since I was no longer their customer, they couldn't help me. Horrible customer service! They don't care. Someone called me said because I was a long standing loyal customer that I would get HBO free for a year. What he forgot to mention it was buy one get one free. I had no clue and had told him no. He said Mame it's free. So after two months I looked at my bill, I am being charged. I have asked three times to be removed from the scam phone calls from them. I keep getting told, I can take care of that for you, and mame starting next month your bill will increase 50.00. Wow went from 60.00 a month back to 100.00. This has got to stop. It's been a horrible year of fraudulent calls from them. Not to mention they will take care of ya and fix it. Which is a farce. After spending an hour and 45 minutes waiting on the phone, and calling from a 2ND PHONE, listening to and answering computers, rebooting 4 times...this all because we received an error code. No success...the computer rebooting 3 times no success...continuing to wait for a live person...NOTHING....one last try it was finally corrected by a computer. Lack of customer service from Direct TV is quite astounding. I tried unsuccessfully for WEEKS to get service and installation, even being scheduled twice for installation Twice, Direct TV was a no-show... No call, no apology, nothing. When I finally got through to someone, their solution was to reschedule me, yet again. On their third attempt to reschedule me (a full week later!!), I finally pulled the plug. If you've been a victim of Direct TV's lack of customer service, I recommend you call El Dorado Satellite TV and Internet. We had our installation done the day after we placed our order!! SO happy. Now... I have to call Direct TV to try to get our deposit refunded. They seem to have no problem taking our money... Wonder which part of the world I'll be connected to today. While wasting no time running my credit and getting me down as a customer Drect TV failed to keep not just one appointment but three! After causing me to miss an entire day of work while waiting for them to show, which they never did, i called them! Their customer service rep at first claimed that I had no appointment! When I proved that I did per their text message telling me what time they were supposed to arrive, he made another appointment which also never materialized. I called again and mafe another appointment which also never showed! During all of this i never got any calls. I would give no star if I could. You definitely get what you pay for!! I pay $35 a month - the service is CRAP. The "guide" is ridiculous, the available channels is NOT what we were told and their new DVR? What a joke. Once you figure out how to record a show, trying to retrieve it is a maze! The recordings take forever to load, if they even do!! Trying to fast-forward through commercials is hit and miss as it doesn't show what is being forwarded - you guessed when to stop and it may or may not be at the end of the commercials. We cancelled Direct TV and went with another carrier. We had numerous issues with freezing and they couldn't fix it but said it would be fixed. This went on for over one year. Then because I went one day into the next billing cycle, they charged me the full month. When my refund was due I had to wait about 6 weeks. Then I didn't receive a check, they had the arrogance to send me a MasterCard Gift card that had a $3 a month service charge. read more

I have a love/hate relationship with DirecTV...I loved it when I first got it years ago, but now it's just like a gallon of gas; it's not so much the product itself that costs a lot, it's all the god-damned fees and taxes and little things that are tacked on that jack up the price exponentially. Plus, I REALLY hate how they treat exisiting customers, especially long-time existing customers, like cash cows. New subscribers get all this fantastic deals and fantastic rates to join, but all I get is my bill increased. Plus, really? I have to PAY for the "privilege" of HD to the tune of $10 per month? I hate for my first review to be such a scathing one but I think it's a recent, horrible experiences that comes to mind first. I would like to first point out that when it comes to utilities and reoccuring services, I'm usually a customer who NEVER calls my provider. In fact, I even have the bill automatically deducted from my account and only tend to call when upgrading a service. Because my problems with Directv has been longstanding (I've had problems throughout the 2 year contract), I'm just going to say, in summary, that Directv is inefficently run and will bullet some points along with one short example for each point: 1) Representatives often give you erroneous information and they DO NOT stand by what the representative told you. I exchanged DVR's due to Directv having changed their programming signal which caused all DVR's of the model I owned to no longer function. I later found out my contract was extended by 2 years (something I did not know) due to the EXCHANGE. I was then charged $225 in early cancellation fees rather than the $87.50 quoted and even though they listened to the call and heard that I was misquoted fees, they stood by $225 since that was the "normal" charge given that my contract was now 2 years longer and the fee is based per remaining month left on your contract. 2) There is no all-in-one representative that can help you. Except for when you are initially purchasing the service, you are often transfered from representative to representative and/or disconnected between transfers (forcing you to call back and start the process over again). I am usually on the phone for at LEAST a half an hour and talk to at LEAST 3 reps with each call. 3) Long waiting periods before a technician comes out. Please note that if a problem wasn't fixed by a previous technician during a warranty period (I think it was a month) they send another one out free. The reps do NOT tell you this so just keep that info handy! Otherwise, you pay for each visit by a technician and should expect a slop job or corners cut. I had to wait 3 weeks for the first service technician to come out and at LEAST a month for each one thereafter. I only was credited for lack of service during my waiting period once. 4) If the installation technician (which is contracted out, btw) does a slop job, it may take several technicians to fix his work thereafter. I had 5 technicians come out over an 8 month period, each discovering something else that the first technician did wrong which contributed to my programming problem. Again, I had to wait at least a month for each technician. 4) They don't practice full disclosure or have a verification system to ensure that you know about (and have agreed to) contract changes. My contract was extended by 2 years without my knowledge. They can't prove to me that I agreed to extend my contract (because I didn't) but they charged me additional cancellation fees for the extended period to an old credit card I had on file. 5) They mail you additional contract terms AFTER having service installed rather than giving you everything at the time of installation. The initial cancellation period (without fees when you first become a customer) is 7 days. Please note that and if you immediately have problems with their service, don't wait a couple of days to see if it'll clear up. Also, I received information of the costs of disconnecting service (oh yes, there are charges, even if your contract period is OVER) in the mail 2 weeks after installation. 5) If your not getting the programming you paid for, good luck getting it fixed or being credited for the days where you're out programming. 6) If you dispute a charge (I tried to dispute the upped cancellation charge), do it by mail with delivery confirmation. The original rep told me I can dispute over the phone but then the next rep said she did not see the dispute and suggested I write instead. My first letter was conveniently lost in the mail and I did not get my dispute reviewed until I sent it with delivery confirmation. 7) If your on the automatic payment program, they have a tendency to charge your credit card first and send you a bill explaining the charges after. The only good thing is that their service costs less than cable. However, if you are one of the unfortunate ones (like me) who found themselves repeatedly taking off of work to wait for ANOTHER technician to come over or found yourself without programming much more frequently than with programming, than it's really not much of a savings. I had dishnet TV for 4 years PRIOR to directv and if you decide to go with satellite programming to save on monthly costs, I would STRONGLY suggest that you use dishnet TV and DO NOT go to directv. I would really be interested in reading other reviews to see if anyone else had such a horrendous experience with directv or if I was just a really unlucky chump on this issue. read more

Lately I've been seeing the ads for Dish networks promotion of 100 channels for 9.99 a month for the first 6 months. I called to check it out, and even though the price goes up dramatically after 6 months, I'm going to get DVR and over 100 channels, which I SO don't get with Directv. I called Directv and asked them if there was anything they could do for me to dissuade me from switching. Nope. Two young men from Dish network are on my roof as we speak, in the wind and rain, ONE DAY AFTER I CALLED. Once they get me hooked up, I'll write my review. 3/20/09 UPDATE-Loving my dish network. When my favorite shows come on, I pause the TV for 10 or 15 minutes while I go do something else, and then when I watch my show I can zip through the commercials. So cool. read more

My story is the same as many of the those already posted on this website. Direct TV quotes you a rate for the first year and the second year of a two year agreement. Once you have installed their equipment, they're going to raise your rate. Only after a few months they raised the original rate on my receivers. After entering the 2nd year, my rate was 22% above the rate that they originally quoted me. They refused to do anything about it, hiding behind their mantra that "We retain the right to increase our rates any time". It seems to me that these folks are practicing deceptive advertising. I don't know how they get away with it. I, too, filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, but they told me there was nothing they could do about it. I have been a Direct TV customer since 2012. After the one-year promotional offer, the monthly bills goes up significantly. Customer service is unhelpful when I have concerns about my bill. The bill fluctuates every month. I was recently checking my billing history. The bill for November 2013 is $184.98. March 2014 is $160.81. Since July 2014 it's been $200.82. They also tend to pressure you to buy NFL Sunday ticket. The cost is $39.99 per month. Direct has a working relationship with the NFL, so it's very difficult to get out of it once you sign up. Despite those issues, there are a number of positives. In the two-and-a-half years since I've been a customer with Direct, there has never been any interrupted signals with the dish, even during the harsh winter weather. The pictures is always high definition, and premium channels like Audience doesn't have commercial interruptions during their shows. They offer a wide selection of channels like STARZ, HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, IFC, Sundance, Ovation, et cetera. If I miss a show or forget to record it, I can always watch it On-Demand. And CSNAHD always features Sacramento Kings games, both home and road games. For the services I'm receiving, the monthly bill is manageable but I wish Direct would be more upfront about its billing practices. read more

I moved into a new house and have directv. I had directv in my last house and it worked well. In my house now I have a hard time getting on the internet and using my phone. I am not sure what the problem is. directv uses at&t. Neither one will come out to fix the problem. In 2011 I moved to a new house, I called them to move the service to my new location which is free. I have never dealt with more incompetent people in my entire life. I wanted NY Yankees games. I called. I was told I needed the YES network (channel 631). I was told to buy the Sports Package. I did. Channel 631 came on, but right when the game started, it cut off. I called back. They said the games were blocked out in my area due to not enough people in the ballpark and the games get blocked locally. I explained that this was a game between a New York and a Florida team, and I was in California. The rep then told me to try TNT or ESPN to see the game. I asked to speak to a manager. I got disconnected. I called back again. I was told the sports package didn't include games, just other shows on channel 631. I was told to buy the MLB package. They charged me $10 to remove the Sports package which the earlier sales rep had just sold me but it didn't have the games in the first place. Today, channel 631 says that I never purchased it. I called AGAIN. Turns out, I need to have both the sports package and the MLB package. The point is, it took me 6 calls, 7 reps, 2 managers and 1 technician to figure this out. If you're going to say you're the best company for sports, why don't you figure out how to get people the correct sports packages?! Also, in the middle of them not knowing what the heck was going on, Latisha tried to up-sell me a movie channels package. Why not first give me the sports package I'm TRYING TO BUY instead of trying to up-sell me stuff I don't want?! read more

Six months ago, we tried DIRECTV at our new place in El Dorado. For a technical reason having to do with our area in El Dorado, it would not work right so we cancelled the service and had a horrible time getting that done because of bad phone reps. Well i should have known better, but I called AT&T last week and they said since the AT&T takeover technology had been updated. So last Friday, I told the rep when i placed a new order, that i would be reviewing with my wife and if not completely happy with the offer would call in to cancel. After reconsidering we decided to cancel before the technician comes out today. But the next day i spent an hour and talked with 5 reps at AT&T and DirecTV to attempt to cancel my order. I was bounced back and forth, was hung up on, and even forwarded to a Company that does security systems and had nothing to do with AT&T or DIRECTV. Bad BAD people. You failed. Today the installer will be coming out to my house and i will feel bad for him because sales and customer service will be wasting his time. NOT MY FAULT! read more

As a long time customer of Direct TV, I was loyal to them because I loved their service. They were always the favorite in a sea of substandard cable companies, even among people I would ask. Why did they bother to have Mike White, their CEO, go on undercover boss to uncover their company deficiencies if they weren't going to make improvements. Mike White was more worried about how hard it was for his employees to install the systems then he was the customers experience. Now their phone reps take on an arrogant tone and offer condescending comments when I call for promotional pricing. (Two of them back to back!) Why would you give new customers better deals then your current long time customers. With my average monthly bill being at least $135, over the course of 11 years, they've made their money from me. So to have a phone representative tell me they cannot offer existing customers the same promotions as new customers or they wouldn't make money is bogus. And to further say that you have absolutely no promotions running right now unless I refer a new customer is also bogus. I see your financials Direct TV and you are NOT hurting! DirecTV has worked towards changing my opinion. Recently, my landlord asked that I relocate the dish, since it was in violation of the community policy. I called DirecTV and they said it would be $53 to relocate it. I just paid it and had them come out to do it. After getting things handled, I called back to see if I could get the $53 back. No, I didn't get all of it, but I did get 1/2. Technically it was my fault as well as theirs for when the dish was installed. They also gained a star for offering me a free HD DVR at my 2 year contract end (and yes, I know it's THEIR HD DVR, and I just renewed for another 2 years). Their room to room action is great! So I'm back on the bandwagon for the CS guys/gals at DTV. The service itself? Was always at a 4 star or more level. read more

I get calls from Directv monthly offering me HBO for free for 3 months but beware it's not for free. They call you in the middle of your billing cycle so they can charge you for half a month for the "free HBO" and the reasoning is 3 months and it starts at the beginning of your next billing cycle. It's a scam! Please pay attention to your bill! They try to make you think you didn't understand and say ok but don't make them take that charge off. If I could give a minus 10, I would!!!! Worst customer service ever. Since AT&T took over, it's a nightmare at best. Plus, the monthly fees keep going up regularly!! Nothing is ever their fault, from recordings skipping all the time, to downright losing programming, or not recording when you set it up online or via phone app. To top it off, I have my system set to record Shameless, which is on Showtime. As you can see from photos, their software decided to download to my recordings list two porno shows that started with the word "shameless." My family now thinks I did this to watch porn...See pix and read language they and I saw...you fill in the blanks. You can see in pix it says recorded from the Shameless search. On 2/10 I had a 1hr and 6 minute call, transferred 3 times. First 2 techs could not fix issue. Apparently my recording is set to "auto record" and so the only way to stop this was to have Showtime subscription so I can change recording settings, (I figured that out, not them), which I don't want till Shameless comes back on. AT&T had no fix. I was finally told to call next day 'cuz they had update going on and system was down...LOL. Called 2/11, 11:06 a.m., and after 17 minutes, was promised I would receive compensation for our pain and suffering of Directv Premier package for 1 year, and they would call me back in 15 minutes with more info. No return call and now no record of that conversation, plus no record of conversation first day. The only notes they have are on second day with me apparently telling them I ordered porn movie and it showed bad language on screen, LOL again. I called again at 5:05 p.m., for 1hr and 9 mins., and was transferred again after several apologies and promises to take care of the issue. After another transfer, we gave up, as we had a dinner engagement. Today I tried again, like a fool. 2hrs/5mins., LOL again. No record of me calling again. Was told by one agent they would give me 3 months promotion of HBO/SHOW/CINEMAX. Following a discussion re: previous offer, I was transferred to another "supervisor" who was, needless to say, rude and condescending. Told me there was no record of me ordering or calling tech support on the 10th and nothing would or could be done. Of course there is no record of me ordering because I didn't order, and have never ordered a PPV dirty movie. With PPV you have to hit select from the "list" menu and then pay...I wasn't about to do that. Tried to set up conference call with this supervisor and tech to prove I called on the 10th. He transferred me but didn't stay on line. The tech guy confirmed I called on 10th, but lo and behold, no notes were there...How odd, LOL again, but really isn't funny..should be crying out loud or something. Got him to conference call with customer loyalty guy and he confirmed I called..after telling my story to the 12th rep, he was appalled and promised to make it right. After being put on hold several times, he finally comes back and tells me since there is no record of me ordering these movies, although he believes me, there was NOTHING he could do, but if I really wanted to, I could cancel and pay $80 for the remaining 4 months of my contract. OH MY...Trust me, AT&T, I will be pursuing other options for TV. There is much more I could say, but enough is enough...I've wasted several hours trying to get you to do the right thing. While we were busy with the movers, DirecTV installed the dish and drilled right thru our shingles and eves. A "J- arm" should have been used. After two phone calls to DirecTV and being transferred between numerous customer service reps and spending endless hours on hold, Alley whom I spoke with on October 27 and Jason and Kris whom I spoke with November 3 all promised to send me a damage claim form via mail and email. I'm very upset with their service! I only switched to DirecTV because when I moved, AT&T U-verse wasn't offered at my new house. When I originally signed up with DirecTV I signed up for this monthly billing charge of either $5 or $10 a month to ensure when a technician came out that it would be at no charge. I called them to relocate one of the boxes to a different room, and they said it would be $49. The stupid plan I signed up for was ONLY for when there was technical problems with THEIR service, and no one could help me over the phone, and if they had to send someone out after that...then it would be free! RIDIDCULOUS! Those are the cases when it should be free regardless, since the "technical issue" in that case would be their network's fault! So stupid! I asked how much it would be to cancel, they said $440 because it's roughly $20 a month for how ever many months are left in your contract, and I still have 22 months left. Had the worst experience trying to deal with a representative who asked me the same question repeatedly for over 20 minutes because they wouldn't believe my extremely simple answer. I was put on hold and told that they were going to see how they could assist me in my unique situation and was disconnected. When I called back I was told that system maintenance had just been engaged and they wouldn't be able to access my account information until 5 in the morning.... although they made changes to my account before resolution which took place with the maintenance uploads. I had an account with DirecTV, which is now AT&T, and since they have combined their corporations, the service has been horrible. On June 25, 2019, I discontinued my DIrecTV service and immediately returned my equipment. They owe me a refund over $62, and I have yet to receive it after more than six weeks. I called them several times, and each person I got after pressing a variety of numbers and waiting, each time I was given a different answer as to when I would get my refund. Now they tell me that it will be in the form of a VISA card, and that they will mail it on September 25, 2019 - THREE MONTHS AFTER I RETURNED MY EQUIPMENT!! What a horrible service. Absolutely terrible in every way. 1) I specifically requested a plan without a early termination fee. Maybe they don't have one but the rep never said that. I should have read the fine print, but their fee is absurd. They are trying to stick me for 300.00. 2) Poorly designed remote and program guides. The menu is filled with ads and channels I don't want, inc. porn channels with raunchy titles (I don't care for myself but kids don't need to see that.) 3) The dish they just leave there, won't come get it and no plan for recycling it, so it will go in my trash. I have been with Directv for many years but now I am so disgusted I can't wait to get away from them! We had our service moved about a year ago to our new house and when they did that, without letting us know, they started our contract all over again. We changed nothing but they wanted to hook us in. Then in Dec I called them to cancel and go to Dish because they offered us a great deal at the time. When I told directv that is why we were moving, they matched the deal and so we stayed. Now, 3 months later, we are back to paying about double what Dish is. I called directv again and they tried to offer me another pkg with less service than Dish and it would once again increase our contract with them. This company has become a complete scam!!! Do not use this company and if you have directv, get out of it ASAP! Dish is the exact same channels for half the price. The only way Directv can keep customers these days is apparently by extending contracts if you dare to call them! I plan on paying the outrageous fee and getting rid of them immediately!! The worst tv service we have ever had. Tv freezes 40 times a day. Don't not get this bad service. I dropped Xfinity because of price. You get what you pay for. CRAP. Beware! Directv FALSE advertising and misleading. The ads they run for $ 29.99, $39.99 or $49.99 for 12 months may fool you. Often they will promise this but once your billing starts it will jump up much more. Keep in mind the programming should be included or the equipment might as well be rocks. Be careful when you add a receiver more than what package offers as this will be additional including the Non HD boxes. I was told $49.99 a month yet they started charging my credit card $80. Here's their trick, call them to resolve and they will make adjustment while your in 30-60 day cancellation allowance. Once that passes they will stick to you saying you can not cancel. Make sure you get everything up front as their customer service promises seem to mean nothing.
