John made a difficult situation a lot easier. The main line at my mom's house - 70 feet of 65-year-old clay pipe - was constantly choked with tree roots, even though it was hydrojetted out regularly. The pipes were broken and leaking in a number of places, and offset - badly out of alignment - in quite a few others. Several other plumbers/sewer specialists had looked at it and they all recommended lining the pipes, but at the same time ALL of them kept saying that, because of all the damage, lining probably wouldn't really work and could even make the problem worse: if the liner hit an offset and folded back onto itself during installation, it would basically glue the pipe shut, "but you could maybe still try it." John was the only one who suggested an alternative - doing a trench pull instead - and explained it clearly so we could understand what it was and why it would be a better fix for the problem. We ended up going with the trench pull, and John and his crew did a great job. They worked pretty much nonstop all day (just one quick break for lunch), got the new pipes installed with minimal disruption to us, and even took it on themselves to redo a few smaller pipes that had been tied in to the main line at bizarre angles back when the house was originally built. The guys were courteous, thoughtful of the neighbors (careful not to block the sidewalk with equipment, piles of dirt, hoses, etc.), kept us apprised of what was happening as the day went on, and they even left the entire length of driveway cleaner than they found it. The work was professional, skillful, thorough - and reasonably priced. This was a major job, and it's wonderful to know it was done right. read more
