No one is ever excited to call a plumber especially feeling on edge about being taken advantage of, but MVP was highly recommended by my neighbors (I didn't even look at the Yelp reviews beforehand which I'm glad). I contacted them and someone was sent same day to fix a couple of issues (minor leak under my sink & broken ice maker waterline). Jamie and Michael's son (sorry forgot his name) came to my house and addressed both issues. Jamie was upfront about the costs and explaining what he would do. It turned out that my leak was a simple fix (p trap slipped off and he pushed back into place). He also replaced my broken cooper waterline with a stainless flexible one to avoid further issues. Jamie was very professional in doing the work and it was awesome to see the interaction between Jamie and Michael's son who was shadowing. Michael's son was asking great questions showing his eagerness to learn and Jamie was patient and a good teacher. I'll definitely be a returning customer, but hopefully not anytime soon. What I paid was more than what I would've wanted to pay but I'm not sure other plumbers would've been cheaper. I decided to give them a try since MVP was recommended. read more

Let me start this by saying we have used this company on a number of occasions and they do quality work, but my current ranking is based on the quality of their customer service, including some ethical concerns regarding their transparency in disclosing fees up front on their most recent visit. My wife recently called to make an appointment the other morning to have a plumber address a leaking valve beneath the bathroom sink; she made it for the evening so I could be home from work and they told her they would be there and nothing else. The guy showed up on time, spent 3 minutes assessing the situation and told me it was a cracked angle stop (valve). He said the other one likely needed to be replaced as well since it was difficult to turn. He then went to look for parts in his truck. When he didn't return after 10 minutes, I went to check on him and found him writing up a quote. It was for $553 to replace the 2 angle stops, which he did not have on him - he would need to go find them. I asked him why so much and he said it was because he was now on overtime since he worked a full day. We decided not to have the work performed this time and he said we were still responsible for the dispatch fee of $135.. We paid him despite the fact that they never told us of the fee nor the fact that we would be paying overtime rates for an evening appointment that was booked in the morning. I then went to Home Depot and bought 2 angle stops for $20 and replaced them myself. read more

RIPOFFF and Michael the owner doesn't care or return call reviewing the outrageous charges. $5 rubber garbage disposal splashguard that snaps in place? $100 $300 to pop in the $60 in line water filter. 1-1/2 hrs to write it up for 15 minutes work. Had to make two trips as he didn't bring the small regular parts that I informed were needed when I booked the call. The above two items and $6 "T" bathroom sink part - $400 charge for that. The guy mentioned the move to other warehouse and the disorganisationn and said we the customer have to pay for their time looking for parts. Calls to discuss were not returned, but I caught Michael the owner once. He claimed no time to discuss as he was on a "big job at Paramount Studios" - still waiting for the invoice review and callback over a year later. read more

We have been using Michael's Valley Plumbing for many years now. In all our interactions with them, they have been great in scheduling, in returning calls, and especially in handling emergencies. This is an example--the day before Thanksgiving, we had work done to our house that caused some wall vibration near our gas meter. When the workmen left we didn't realize that the vibrations had activated the safety shutoff to our meter. That evening when we turned on our cook top--no gas, no hot water, no heater. We reset the meter and the cook top worked, but still no hot water or heat for the house. We called Michael and he suggested some possible fixes, which we tried yet still were not able to get the water heater or house heater working. We called Michael back and he gave us the option of sending someone out that night or early Thanksgiving morning . We chose the following morning (yesterday). Chris, his workman called letting us know when when he would arrive and showed up when he said he would. He work a mask and kept his distance. He quickly bled the gas line of the hot water heater, which got rid of the air gap and reignited the hot water heater. When I mentioned the A/C heater went out, he went into the attic and did the same, which saved us an emergency call to the A/C company. Considering that the repair was done on a holiday, and that we saved money by not having another emergency call from the A/C company I felt that the bill was fair. Honestly with the economy in the condition that it's in, my wife and I are glad to put money into the hands of companies like Michael's that provide these important local services. read more

My kitchen sink had been clogged for some several weeks and I tried everything possible to unclog it (plunger, used plumbing snake, Drano....nothing worked). I contacted a few companies to fix my plumbing problem but they were either too busy to do it soon or I just couldn't reach them. I called Michael's Valley Plumbing and Eduardo answered the phone very quickly. I told him my situation and he sent a plumber to my home immediately! Jamie was the plumber who came to work on it. He was very professional and did an outstanding job. My sink is not clogged anymore! I'm really grateful for their service, this sink was really giving me a headache. If you want plumbers that are super expensive and have lots of attitude, than Mike's Plumbing is the company for you! We hired them because they seemed reliable and because they had done an OK job on some smaller plumbing repairs in our 40's Spanish house. Their bid for the master bathroom plumbing was high, but we justified paying the extra money because they had done work for us in the past and we believed they would show up. On day one of the bathroom reno,  Mike sent out a main guy and one assistant to do the rough plumbing.  When they got to my house, they complained about the studs in the floor being too thick. It was after all 1940's house. We figured out a creative way to move the pipes to the new location based on the architecht's drawings, which maybe they hadn't looked at before? Two days later, the same guys water tested the new pipes, and flooded the downstairs bathroom ceiling causing major damage, because the bucket they used for the test was too small and because the helper who was outside at the water main could not hear the guy up in the bathroom yelling at him to turn off the water. The ceiling required replastering, sanding and repainting.  And since it was a 40's house, it also required demo of the lath & plaster, making a huge mess. When the tile work was completed, Michael sent out another guy to set the bathroom fixtures. I took the morning off from work to meet him. Steve, the "finish plumber" was 45 minutes late, twice, due to "too much traffic."  He left without leveling the bathtub, so it wabbled.  He then complained about the location of the tub faucet and the pipes (which his company's rough plumber had installed), plus there was some minor trouble with other fixtures, and the installation of the drain. We ended up hiring another plumbing company to make the adjustments. In the end we we just wanted them out of our lives. After paying more that $6,800. for the rough plumbing. A week later we received a new bill for  $575.00 for the installation of a $100. Moen sink faucet in the powder room.  A faucet which got changed out in less that 20 minutes. When we called Mike about it, he informed us that we were that he charged us only $575 because "it says in the handbook (?) that a journeyman plumber can charge up to $750.00 to change out a faucet."  WTF?? What handbook? The Michael's Valley Plumbing Customer Gouging Guide?  We did receive a small credit of $100. for the powder room ceiling his guys damaged. Even though he had promised to repair the it but never did. And which cost us more than $500. to repair. We will never use Michael's Valley Plumbing again. We were constantly overcharged and in the end it became such a hassle to deal with the belligerent and irresponsible owner, that we just wanted him gone. There's just something fundamentally wrong when an hour of a bad plumbers time cost more than an hours with Cedars Sinai Cardiologist. read more

Michaels valley plumbing gets a one star in my book. First, they change the price on you after their first visit. We had a backup in one of the toilets and they came out and cleared the line for 265. The next time they came out for the same thing, they quoted 385. I told them the price was 265 last time and it took the owner to get on the phone and him and I disagreed about it. From here, it got worse. They said we needed a clean out, and they put it in the wrong place. We still had an issue and another plumber said it was in the wrong place. We asked them to come out and put one in and they refused. They also were very unresponsive. I tried to pay half and they would not accept. Prior to this, we had to pay 600 to snake and hydrojet a drain. The only problem they couldn't clear and wanted more money. I strongly urge anyone to not use them and if you do, hide your wallet. Michael was referred to me by a family friend. I had a leak in my master bath tub faucet. The plumber who installed it during my recent remodel was unavailable. Mike and his associate responded quickly from Burbank!!. They determined that a faulty cartridge in my water fall faucet was the cause of the leak. Unfortunately, the cartridge was a non standard part from China. Also, there was no shut off valve! Mike installed a shut off in my master closet and stopped the leak. He also searched for a replacement cartridge , found it, and got my tub back working. All this was done in a professional , courteous way at a reasonable cost. We called the guy for a leak in our utility sink. It turned out that the leak was in the faucet. They gave us an estimate over the phone of $475 (with faucet included). In order to save some money, we went to Home Depot and purchase the faucet, ourselves. After installation, the invoice was for a whooping $417...!!! Just to replace the faucet...!! It took the guy less than 90 minutes to do the job, and we ended up paying for his weekly salary...!!! What a rip off...!!! You know, I live in the neighborhood and I like to do business with the locals, but they turn out to be bandits. Next time I am going main stream. On the day my parents were coming in from out of town to see my new home for the first time, we turned on our shower and there was no water, due to a broken diverter. My husband stayed home from the airport pickup, while Jamie from Michael's Valley Plumbing came, temporarily restored our water, and told us we had a stripped diverted. I came home and took over from here, with the work being finished, and Jamie just needing to run my credit card. He spent almost a hour "not being able to get someone from the office to answer the phone" while he commented on the extravagance of my house, bathroom, & closet, and told me "you don't see showers like this except up in the Hollywood Hills. To replace all the fixtures on a regular shower costs $1500 but yours is going to be much more because it's so fancy." Jamie, I'm not a 20-something who was able to purchase a home because I am stupid. When you left, without a permanent solution (he called the next day and wanted to take our shower apart and take pieces away while he tried to find the part) I went on the manufacturers website, found they only make one model of a 6 jetted shower. I found the part, which was sold individually, and bought it for $100 at Home Depot and my handyman will be installing it. I feel like we let a thief into our home and paid him $225 an hour so he could avoid going to his next job and attempt to con us out of more money. We will be doing a lot of work in our new home over the next few years but we won't be doing it with the lazy thieves employed by Michael's Plumbing. (And yes, he did try to offer us an under the table deal where he could fix our shower for wholesale prices "after hours") read more

Based on high recommendations from Angie's List, we summoned Steve from Michael's Valley Plumbing to fix the drain clog in our shower. It was a 10 minute fix that cost us $150 since unbeknownst to us, the cost is based per hour not by the complication of the procedure. While we believe that the cost is too high for a simple fix, we were more displeased by the so-called $25 equipment charge added to the bill. I couldn't really comment much about their technical skills. But if you're looking for a reasonably priced plumber, I would look elsewhere. read more

Unfortunately, we're another long term customer that will never be using Michael's Valley Plumbing again. When they were on Angie's List (note: they are NO LONGER on Angie's List, apparently issues with low reviews/fraudulent reviews) and maybe a smaller company, service was amazing, prices were a bit high but worth it. Now, it seems they don't guarantee work, charge exorbitant fees, recommend highly expensive work that's 2-3x more expensive than comparable competitors and couldn't care less. During our last call, they sent out a sub-contractor, which in and of itself is not a big deal, but still, that was a first - maybe they should hire more people. He was nice enough, but charged almost $500 to snake our sewer line. He was here for a little over an hour. When less than a week later we had the exact same clog come back, we called them back and was told "sorry, no guarantees" as that's what they wrote on the receipt. It's obviously up to the company whether or not they guarantee work, however, when you've charged basically $500/hr and your work was completed less than a week ago, you may want to think about how your lack of any care affects your repeat customer base. My parents also have used them for many years and now will no longer as well because of our experience. Not to mention anyone they have recommended may also now never use them again. So there's possibly exponential customer loss because they don't stand behind their work - or even care to find a solution. Needless to say, there are plenty of plumbing companies who are eager for new business, will do the same work for a more reasonable price and actually care. Waste of money, time and effort. Spend your hard earned money with companies who WANT to have satisfied repeat customers! read more

Do not use this company. I hired this company to do some work for us and they totally did it wrong. I have a permit and the work they did was not up to code. At first they seemed so nice but things turned ugly real fast. They would not return my call and I have 6 people in my house with out water. They also used incorrect tubes to run gas. We had a gas leak and had to call the gas co. We had to have another plumbing co and fix it They wrote on the invoice all the things that were done wrong and not up to code. When i reached them on Monday I spoke to the owner Mike Jr and he was so rude and short with me and told me he would not refund me my money and hung up. Stay AWAY. you will just have to call someone else to fix their incompetent job. The gas co. had to be called and gas shut off. Very bad experience. They charged me for a new hot water tank....$4500. What a fool I was. Then I had no hot water. Michael JR. is so rude. They had to keep coming back. I kept telling them to please just turn the temp up, this was about 10 days of cold water. Last time they were here, there was a note that if I called again there would be a charge. From small sewage line clogs, refrigerator water lines, sink replacements, built-in shower/tub installation... MVP is extremely professional and backs every element of their work. Wow, I had the completely opposite experience as JY. Needed emergency plumbing on a Sunday evening, so I called these guys because I was really happy the last time they had come. The guy who answered the phone was very friendly and promised me someone would be out within an hour. Forty-five minutes later Efrem showed up and he quickly got the job done, with absolutely no mess. They quoted me a flat rate, which would have been high for a Monday morning, but seemed very fair for a Sunday night. Efrem even changed my toilet seat for me... and all I had asked him to do was loosen the really tight screws for me. I've called these guys twice and they are definitely two-for-two! read more

Last Friday evening, my main sewer line backed up and I was desperate to get someone out to fix it. After calling several places that all said they couldn't come out until Saturday, I called Michael's. The owner's son (Michael) came out at 9:30 pm to get me out of a bind. Michael & his apprentice (Jamie) wasted no time in getting started with clearing the stoppage and inspecting the main for the cause. They found roots at one of the pipe joints. Expecting the worst, I was very happy that Michael reported my main line was in great condition and the roots would be no problem to clear. The quoted rates were fair, they showed up when they said they would, they fixed the problem quickly, and gave me a discount that I didn't ask for. A nice surprise:) They didn't try to sell me anything I didn't ask for and seemed genuinely happy to tell me I should be good for a couple years. A big thumbs up to these guys. read more

After being happy with a previous job (see my previous review), I decided to use Michael's Valley Plumbing to do a large plumbing job at my house. I wanted to have a second washer/dryer hookup in the front section of the property. The job involved digging a large trench & installing piping & connecting to the city sewer for the washer discharge. The job also involved building an enclosure for the washer & dryer & installing a GFCI electrical outlet. The total cost was around $13,800.00. The contract called for 50% down payment & the balance upon completion - which I agreed to. My first unpleasant surprise was when the contractor asked me to pay the balance before the job was completed, even though the contract called for the balance upon completion. After I phoned Michael's Valley Plumbing & spoke to one of the owners, that request was withdrawn. The second unpleasant surprise came when one of the minor repairs the contractor said he would do was to reattach my water heater vent which was too close to the edge of the roof. The owner wanted to charge me another $250.00 for the job & tried to convince me that it was a big "Two and a half hour job." He didn't know that the contractor had previously told me it would only take a few minutes & he would not charge me for it, since I'd hired them for a big job. The third unpleasant surprise came when the job was almost completed & after I paid the balance in full. The GFCI plug (specified in the contract) was not installed & the contractor suggested installing two GFCI plugs inside the enclosure so the dryer plug would reach the outlet without an extension cord. The contractor said that job would be an additional $480.00. That seemed outrageous to me, so I contacted a licensed electrical contractor & he did the job for $275.00. Michael's Valley Plumbing does have some skilled technicians, but they are spoiling their good name with greed. Update - Previous plumbing repair: I had Michael's Valley Plumbing do other work before the big washer-dryer sewer hookup. One of the repairs was to a leaking bathroom sink faucet. A valve stem was replaced & the leaking stopped but three months later, it started leaking again. I contacted Michael's Valley Plumbing & the owner wanted to charge me to repair the faucet again - until I told him that a faucet repair should last longer than three months. Their plumber suggested I purchase a replacement faucet from his truck - at $500.00 plus labor. After I said, "No, thanks," he suggested I contact the faucet manufacturer (Price-Pfister) & order the part. I found the manufacturer to be far more reputable than Michael's Valley Plumbing; they sent me the replacement parts at no cost. After complaining that "Every time we park our truck in a driveway, it costs us $80.00," the owner sent a plumber & he replaced the part in five minutes. No leaking since, but I'm wise enough to NEVER call Michael's Valley Plumbing again. Unless you like getting ripped off, I suggest you do the same. Not the way to treat a customer who spent over $16,000.00 with their company. There is a good reason why almost every review of Michael's Valley Plumbing is negative. read more
