The DAV has always provided me with great items and have assisted me load and unload my donations. They provide the are with outstanding service and their proceeds go to a great cause disabled US veterans. This store was once a great store. All coats used to be $8-$10. Now, the cashier Aaron who does the pricing thinks they have some sort of boutique, where poor people are priced out of buying a warm coat. I went on half price clothing day. I found a nice coat upstairs, where the junkier clothes are, these are the ones that are half off. There was no price on it, just like everything else upstairs, no prices on anything. So, I checked the wall, where they have a price list. The list on the wall said, COATS $10. So, it's half off day, $5. I take my find to the counter, Aaron says, "$20." I said, no, that came from upstairs, it says $10, so it's $5 today. He says no, people remove the tags, and I make the prices and it is supposed to be $20. I said I am not psychic, that's why I read what the price was, I only have the $5 bill, so I was going to go ahead and buy it anyway for $10, on my card, until Aaron said "It's called reading, you should try it". I said I did read, the sign says $10, it should be $5 for half off day. He made another jab about me "reading" and I said Nevermind, and left without the coat. Aaron is rude. Preferred customers get better prices. They get this stuff as free donations. They can't even go by the posted price list if Aaron's at the counter, the price will be whatever he feels he should inflate it to. This store is not good. Donate to the other DAV, on Gurley, they are very nice, and prices are way better. read more

They get new stuff everyday - been checking once a week and have found some needed items. Great help, good pricing - especially furniture. During my last two visits, the place was empty. It used to be crowded. They received a lot of donations and moved them quickly. When it came time to pay, I realized why no one was there. It once had a reputation as the cheapest place in town and the store with the most variety. There were new items all the time, which was a big draw once upon a time. Not anymore, apparently. The public's love of the place used to inspire lots of donations of clothing and interesting knick knacks. I used to love that store. What a find! This two-level maze of treasures is a must-visit for any thrift store aficionado who finds herself in the area. I was initially drawn in by the large signs advertising "TRIFT STORE". Since it was displayed on multiple signs, I assumed the misspelling was not accidental. Indeed, there's a sweet story behind the name that you should ask about when you visit. Their prices are average to low, depending on what you're buying. The selection of books and records is massive, well-organized, and really cheap (25 cent paperbacks, 50 cent hardcovers). They have average clothing prices, and a wide selection of sizes. I only had 45 minutes or so to poke around, but I could have spent hours! I ended up with a couple books and a set of ceramic coasters. Worth a look! read more

I work near the DAV thrift store and have gone in at least once a week for over 10 years. That is until the last 6 months or so. They raised prices on most clothing from $.50 to $2.00+. Since there are no dressing rooms, I would purchase clothing and try it on at home. If it didn't fit, I would donate it back. It wasn't a problem and I felt I was helping the vets. They often said they were cheaper than Goodwill. But Goodwill has discount days. The DAV doesn't, as far as I know. Often it was hard to find a parking space back then! Recently I saw a notice that they weren't accepting clothes at that time. They obviously don't have as many people purchasing like they used to! I believe they can charge whatever they want, but I won't be going in nearly as often as I used to. read more

I was an avid DAV shopper for years and would have given them 5 stars easily, but things have drastically changed in the last year. They quadrupled their prices and the spirit of the place has changed. It still has the same rummage sale feeling and no dressing room, but they decided to charge a lot more for what is being donated. I used to buy freely in there for myself, friends, and relatives. At the lower prices, I would leave with armfuls of clothes and see if anyone liked the things. Now I often leave the store empty handed and have given up shopping for others. Its too bad they changed. I have many friends who used to shop there who say they don't go or buy much there anymore. This DAV was named the best thrift store in AZ for many years, but that was because of how it used to be priced and run. I wish they would bring back the old DAV. read more

For the last 30 yrs. this was the go to place for bargains on anything needed for the home. I went there this week and was shocked. Someone had tagged the items as though they were in a store like Koh'ls or Dillard's. This is a thrift where people who need to stretch a dollar come to buy USED things. I have shopped and volunteered at the DAV for over 25 years. This past year, 2017, the Board of Directors stepped in to micromanage the store. They are all retired with very healthy pensions and lucrative retirement benefits. They fired Zondra who had been at the store for 15 years; that is when things started going down hill. They are destroying the very essence and purpose, which is to help our US Disabled Veterans. The store has lost most if not all the volunteers, the morale of the employees is in the tank, prices have gone through the ceiling, and the quality of donations has dropped considerable. (The Board just fired another manager.) The Board purchased a $40,000 van to make a pickup in Sun City twice a month, a total waste of DAV funds. There are many other thrift stores in Prescott and countless worthy establishments where volunteers are welcomed with open arms. Unfortunately for the Disabled Vets and shoppers in Prescott, this store has changed but not for the better.... read more

WOW! is all I can say! NO wait! I can say LOTS more about this gem in Prescott, AZ. I have been going there since I was a student at Northern AZ University and the 1.5-hour drive was so worth it. Now I live south of Prescott and the 1.5-hour drive, 12 years later, is STILL worth it! They have everything under the sun that you could possibly want or need, and the prices are the best of any thrift store in AZ. From books to vinyl lps to clothing to furniture to games to seasonal items to knick knacks to housewares...On and on and one, rows and rows and rows of everything. Each time my husband and I go it is like a treasure hunt and the treasures I bring home are amazing. I was able to get all my Halloween decorations there for our home and we had the BEST yard in the Valley of the Sun! That included Christmas, too! But above all, the DAV fulfills a purpose as a thrift store serving the Disabled American Veterans, and their mission is accomplished through the people who work there, the prices and the exceptional variety of "treasures" you, too, can find. read more

I love this place, but things move so fast...if you think about it...it will be gone the before you get out of the drive way. Most of all I guess I got a bit American when all at once we were all called to stand to the flag-remove our hats and listen to the National Anthem and to not forget our men and women in service....it was quite moving. Then I learned that every dollar stays in the valley to help disabled veterans. They have loads of kind people and it's been a joy to grab good deals there. I have never felt so patriotic....where you spend your dollar matters! read more

This place is different. No doubt about it. Odd pricing system. They can't spell thrift (inside joke). You find odd stuff. However the prices are great. I mean really great. New stuff constantly, it moves fast. The staff is helpful. And I love supporting veterans. It is really my all time favorite. read more

2 months ago I would have given 5 stars. My Dad and I shopped there often. Today we went in to see nothing but new faces. My Father asked what happened to Sandy only to be told she no longer worked there. So he asked are you honoring the by the basket prices she gave us veterans? They said no we are not that was losing too much money. He would go at least 2 to 3 times a month because he and I are helping to cloth many grandchildren.(8) in the short time we were there we witnessed at least 10 to 12 people walking out. So many depended on these by the basket prices. Is there anyway you can bring it back at least to your veterans themselves? Your new staff is costing you money they not only were standing around but they were very rude to people. Including my 90 year old Father who proudly served his country. read more

I think we hit every thrift store in Prescott last weekend, so my rating is compared against others. It's a big place with a lot of selection, but most of it just wasn't what we were looking for. They don't lose a star for that as it's totally a matter of what's donated and changes often. It seemed pretty heavily weighted on clothes. My biggest gripe was pricing...I have no idea how the pricing structure works or what was priced what. It's also out of town a bit compared to others, but like I said, it's huge. Add me to those mourning the loss of what used to be a great thrift store. We chose it because my husband is a veteran and the cause is admirable. Sadly, however, we will no longer be a patron. Prices are sky high now, and the friendly family-like atmosphere is gone. I'm sure the "new" management thinks it necessary to "upgrade" the store. To make it more like Goodwill. But the funky atmosphere and casual pricing actually encouraged one to buy more. Such a shame. read more

When I was younger I got in trouble for trespassing on Mr. Perkins land in Chino Valley. My best friend to this day took me out to shoot a cheap pellet gun at some paper targets. We got in trouble ( I don't know how, as people hunt, fish, camp, and cut firewood all of the time on it,) and I ended up having to do two days community service. It was then that I found this store! All of the people were friendly and working there was fun and exciting. Now I am a Purple Heart Veteran and totally want to show some support for this store. Here is why you should shop there: 1. Young kids who get in trouble can work there and help their community and learn some responsibility from a great staff! 2. All proceeds go directly to the disabled or troubled veterans who need the help. 3. They have a great selection of furniture, clothing, computers, and much more at a fraction of the cost that you would pay for at Goodwill. 4. As long as you are not trying to dump garbage off on them, they will come and pick up said items from your house if you are donating them, keeping landfills clear, providing items to those who may be too poor to afford them brand new, and all of these proceeds go to the veterans.
