I'm so glad I found Tyler online! My husband and I bought our home last year and the backyard has been the bane of my existence. The previous owners lived there for 65 years and I suspect through the years they've just slowly grew random crap back there. I reached out to some other landscapers here with good yelp reviews and they were all extremely expensive! Or they didn't bother responding to my inquiry. One even told me they were only going to work on projects that were at least $20,000 minimum. DA FUK? So I found Tyler through Craigslist. I'm glad I did. I shot him an email, he quickly responded and we were able to set up a meeting date so he can come check out my place to provide a quote. We wanted our backyard cleaned up. Remove all the random bushes and awkward trees, help with random dirt mounds. Help prevent weeds and assist us with doing some drought tolerant landscaping. During our meeting, he was very informative on what we were looking to doing and what needed to be done to accomplish our goal. He then emailed me his quote and it was SUPER fair. Way more affordable than expected. We accepted his quote and he came by with a 2nd helper and did all the work in one business day. He came by after I left for work and just finished up when I returned. It was magical. This hot mess of a back yard was finally clean. I never knew my yard was as big as it is because it was filled with random, bushes and crap before. He was super easy to talk to and I without a doubt will reach back out to him again for future projects. In fact, my husband wants him to help with the front yard now. read more

UPDATE 05/19/17 Bummed to have to leave this update, as I highly respect Tyler, and was very pleased with him (and crew) early on in my project, but since then, it's been very challenging to get support following the installation. The initial project scope was to remove a plum tree that had been sprouting saplings all over our backyard. It was a highly invasive tree, and we hired DiSalvo to essentially rip up part of the backyard, remove the tree, remove roots, and plant new sod, etc... And now after several months passed, we already see saplings popping up again all over the place. It's extremely frustrating, and upon asking for support from DiSalvo, we were told that this is essentially no longer their issue. They said the only way to prevent this was to rip up the entire yard, and since they didn't do that, they can't control where these saplings will pop up... and so literally no help, support, whatsoever for this issue. Just a text message response after thousands of dollars spent on services, and we feel the primary issue is not quite resolved. On top of that, the redwood fence we had them put in is already falling apart. They came back a couple times after the installation to make small repairs, but now after a few more months, there are yet additional issues. Some parts of the fence are literally falling apart, and now DiSalvo will not even respond anymore. I think Tyler (owner) is just fed up with our post-work issues, concerns, and requests to make repairs... And now we are simply ignored. Our concerns are valid, so being ignored should not be the answer. PREVIOUS REVIEW: It took several weeks to find a landscape service that was reliable, responsible, and able to support the many projects we needed. Finding DiSalvo was really refreshing, and we knew fairly quickly that Tyler (owner) was the right guy for the job. We were looking for: raised planter boxes, root removal, stump removal, Gold Fines, sod replacement, water tolerant plants, (maple) tree planting, and over 120 feet of redwood (good neighbor) fence replacement. Tyler was responsive to our needs, and did not shy away from the many requests along the way. He was able to problem solve, kept a clean work site, and completed all work in a reasonable amount of time. His prices were competitive, and we felt we were getting the best value at all stages. While there were times when communication seemed to fade between projects, it was never hard to reach Tyler via text or phone, and at the end of the day, my family and I are very happy with the outcome! read more

I saw some of the reviews below and I guess some people just can't be pleased, but I can be. I had Tyler Come out and quote doing 130' of french drains and tie in like 7 downspouts to take water away from our property. The scope did increase and we added 300sqft of paver patio and his guys pounded through. I have had dozens of tradesmen working on my properties over the years and these guys did a fantastic job all the way through. I have no doubt that in the future we will hire them again in the future to work additional projects here and there. I had a major leak coming from main valve of our sprinkler system. This was on a weeknight and I called a few places. Tyler was the only one to respond to my call! Tyler DiSalvo redesigned our backyard by installing pavers, a retaining wall, a new landing, and an artificial grass area. Tyler and his team were direct and responsive to our needs and completed the project in good time. When we had questions about aspects of the project, Tyler was ready to address our needs in a professional manner. For instance, when the color of the pave stones he had installed did not match our desires, Tyler was willing to reinstall new pave stones for no cost. In addition, when we asked about the installation of a drip system in the planter box he installed, Tyler quickly came to our house to complete the set-up we desired. We received a number of bids for our project, but we found Tyler's offer to be the most reasonable. We appreciated their hard work and clarity throughout the process. Since I had re-landscaped my backyard with pavers and removed the lawn, Tyler came out and added a new drip irrigation system for me. He went over and above and did great work. I was really excited to meet with and work with Tyler after reading all the reviews on Yelp. Tyler text me after I messaged him on Yelp and offered to schedule an appointment on a Saturday to come by and see my project. One hour before our scheduled appointment, he text and asked if he could reschedule since one of his employees had called out sick. I agreed and asked when he would like to reschedule. I followed up with him 2 days later in case he simply got too busy over the weekend since I never heard back. He replied and suggested an appointment for the following business day at 11AM. I agreed. Our 11AM appointment time rolled around and Tyler was no where to be seen. I waited 20 minutes before texting him the following: "Hi Tyler. Are you still coming? Our appointment was at 11 AM." He then called and said he's sorry, he left his phone in his truck. Via phone, he answered my text with the following: "Um... yeah, I can still come out there. Will you be home in 20 minutes?" I told him I have another person coming to offer a quote at 1PM and I wanted to keep the two of them separate. Tyler then suggested 2PM. I explained to him that while I do work from home, I still have to work and being nearly an hour late to an appointment after rescheduling the first appointment with only 1 hour notice did not look good. He then said, "Yeah. I understand. I'm just really busy right now so it's probably not the best time for me to take on another project. Sorry about that." And hung up on me. Now, I've been a business owner and I've had to deal with the burden of busy schedules when employees call out. I've also had to deal with becoming overwhelmed with projects, but here's the thing - when you're overwhelmed or don't have the bandwidth, do not reach out to take on another project. I will respect you if you tell me you don't have the time available right now, but I won't respect you if you waste my time and disrespect me by doing so. I really tried to have empathy for the situation, but the lack of communication and disrespect damaged this potential business relationship. ***Edit*** I was going to leave this alone and hope that the business owner learns from this experience, but after I posted my review I received several (10) text messages from him, all of which condemned me for my review of his product (I.E. himself). He actually threw a tantrum through text. He claims I do not have a right to review his business since I never formally had a bid with him, but I gave him ample opportunity to earn my business. He also felt it wasn't a problem to no show on an appointment because I "work from home." I do WFH, but the key word is 'work.' I can't wait around for appointments who refuse to take responsibility for dropping the ball. Again, his complete disregard for my time or my daily obligations cost him this sale. Rescheduling appointments is perfectly fine, as I told him the first time he asked to do so, but when I asked him when he wanted to reschedule, he did not reply. I had to follow up with him. Offering to reschedule an appointment when you're already 25 minutes late is not doing the customer a solid, it's trying to CYA. Overall, it would appear Tyler values his image more than his customers. There is value in the age old mantra - the customer is always right. He may be the best landscape designer this side of the Mississippi, but his childish antics and lack of respect speak volumes of his professional character. read more

I had a terrible experience, 1st they charge by the hour at higher price the a plumber, they had 2 guys come out but only one really worked the other guys talking and went go get parts, I gave them a list of things I wanted fixed, instead they fix things that I didn't need fix, they did replace a leak with new sprinkler but broke the next day, they also broke all my drips irrigation in the front, I still need to pay someone to fix it. I did complain to them and they said they would come out to look but never came out , watch out! read more

We had Tyler come out to repair our sprinkler system. He came out on a holiday (the fourth of July) when we were home and spent the morning diagnosing the issue, walking me through all the details and making sure I understood what he was doing and why. He was very clear about pricing, and made sure that I knew exactly what he would need to fix the problem, about how long it would take, and how much he would charge. It was clear to me that Tyler really cares about being fair and upfront, and that the quality of the work was very important to him. He came out the next day to do the work, and he did a great job, installing two new valves, replacing old, brittle PVC, reconnecting everything nicely and keeping the area clean while he was doing it. He made sure to take pictures of the work and the pipe placement so that I could use them for reference in future jobs, and he was patient while I asked him a ton of beginner questions so that I could understand exactly what he had done. Tyler did an incredible job for us at a great price, and I really enjoyed having him at our house, and talking to him throughout the job. I will definitely hire him again next time we have a project, and I can't recommend him highly enough. read more

I had a few people who came and provided a quote for Sod for both my front and backyard. Tyler was on time to provide me with the quote and had the best price and was able to complete the work on the time frame I wanted. Initially I thought I needed irrigation for my front an backyard. Everyone who came to my house quoted me for a new sprinkler system. Tyler was the only one who actually turned it on for me and mentioned that my sprinkler system was actually really good and it didn't need any work. He even changed some Of the sprinkler heads for free. He also helped me Instal a new timer for free. I highly recommended Tyler. He's very professional. In summer 2014, we decided to get rid of our lawn. DiSalvo Designs was recommended to us from a neighbor who hired them to improve the gardens, fences and other yard work. Tyler came to the house and went over his services with me. He is very excited about new clients and about both large and small jobs. He's very creative and has a small, but effective team supporting him. He arranged for Santa Clara County to come to my house and do the water evaluation, so that we could qualify for the rebate. While we were waiting for the appointment, he worked with a horticulturist to redesign the irrigation and plan the plantings in my front yard based off the plants I chose on the long list of "approved" species from the County. Tyler was very open to ideas and input. We communicated through text message and a photo stream and shared pictures and ideas. By the time the County did the inspection, we had everything ready for the next phase. I signed the paperwork, and Tyler hand delivered the plan to the office in case they had questions. Then we waited. The County approved our project slowly. In October, we got permission to do the demo. In November we got permission to do the irrigation and in December we finally got permission to plant. Tyler was often talking to the water officials, because we were making a permeable path in the yard and the County has very specific rules about paths and their construction. The front yard turned out so great, that we had him back to build eight 4'x4' garden boxes, pour concrete and put up a garden shed, and create new full-sun beds and customized benches with entertaining tables and succulent gardens in the backyard. He also redid the gate on our worn fence by hand because it was at an odd angle. Once a month, he comes by and does a maintenance check on everything. We found him invaluable. Tyler and Seth are very customer oriented and a great team They take great pride in getting things right. And they work very, very hard for their clients. Plus, my dogs love them. read more

He was willing to give up valuable family time to take care of us and returned the next day as promised and did an excellent job. He kept us informed as to what he was doing and what we might expect. In late fall of 2015, Tyler removed our front lawn and part of our back yard lawn for the Santa Clara water rebate program. He worked with our budget and schedule as we had a large project to complete. Even though it was a difficult time of year to find the specific plants on our list for the rebate, Tyler came through with all the plants required. Tyler was personable and flexible throughout and more reasonably priced than other quotes we received. I am enjoying watching our new gardens grow and blossom and so glad not to waste water irrigating grass we don't care about! Today, 6 months after the job was complete, we had a buried landscaping pipe break and Tyler came out right away and fixed the problem quickly for no charge. It is great to have a local contractor who is so responsive and stands behind his work and his relationship with the customer! We would definitely use DiSalvo Designs again. read more

I thought Tyler and his associate Rick did a real nice job of both my front and back yard. I had plans drawn up and as they turned the plans into reality I had to make some adjustments and they were amenable to making those adjustments. The quality of the work was good , they had to adjust for weather as rain showed up and were able to work around that in a timely fashion.
