On May 5, 2024, we popped in for a sit-down meal before a three hour drive back home. RATING BREAKDOWN Food: 5 | Service: 5 | Ambiance: 4 | Price: 4 PARKING Out front in mostly gravel lot. LOCATION/AMBIANCE Located in Ruidoso Downs, which is close to the horse race track, this little place it's not meant for fine dining. There are loose tiles on the floor. Half painted walls. Wobbly tables, but I adore this place. The walls were adorned with photos of horse, racing memories. Bright colors throughout. A mostly clean restroom was available. THE GRUB + Barbacoa tacos... such tender meat that required hardly any chewing. Comes with cilantro, chopped white onions, and half of a lime. + Pineapple Fanta LITTLE YELPER'S CLUB Their kid's menu was great! My youngest enjoyed the kid's taco plate with carne asada. My oldest ordered the kid's quesadillas & was quite content. SERVICE Friendly & reasonably fast. Order at the counter then choose a seat in the small dining area. They'll bring the food out to you. MY FAVORITE PART... Really delicious complimentary homemade tortilla chips & salsa! NOT SO FAVORITE PART... It's a small place. We almost took our order to go. Great chicharrones with salsa verde burritos! Tortillas were fresh made not store bought! Under new owners and they are doing it right. I travel that way for quite often and i will be stopping next time through to try the breakfast burritos. read more

Stopped in for a to go order. The service was fast and friendly, inside looked clean and welcoming, and the food was delicious and reasonably priced. We got red ground beef enchiladas and gorditas. read more

This is definitely the best place for tacos in ruidoso hands down. So I was looking for some authentic tacos and hadn't been able to find any until I stopped here on my way out of town. As you know the best food places look like a whole in the wall and this is no exception. I decided to stop and check it out. They have a great menu size and have anything you could want. I ended up getting the el pastor tacos and the hot salsa. It took about 10-15 min to get my tacos. The best part about this is all I was expecting was tacos but I also got chips and salsa. So the tacos themselves are delicious and for less than $10 you can't beat the price. The meat was flavorful and condiments were nice and fresh. You can guarantee I will be going back and getting some other items on the menu in the near future. P.S. the horchata is delicious as well! read more

We have been seeing this little hole in the wall Mexican food restaurant since we were kids and never stopped. This was the year!!! We ordered takeout but you have to go in to pick up the order. Small, clean and nothing extra. We had both the soft and the hard taco plate. As well as chicken flautas for the kids and a chicken enchilada plate with green sauce. The flautas really needed some kind of dipping sauce like guacamole or nacho cheese. Very bland and dry. Salsa was only thing provided and was too hot for the kids. The tacos and enchiladas were good-- average. I will say though, the best we've had in Ruidoso so far!!! read more

Still good. Still cheap. My kiddo ate a breakfast burrito and he can't stop talking about them. I had flame cheese lol. It was thick and literally melted cheese. I'd skip that. Hubs had cheese enchiladas and asked for green sauce and they wouldn't change it to green after they brought out red. So he really didn't enjoy his meal. Our waitress didn't speak English and I'm sure it was missed in translation but he definitely asked for green sauce as he HATES red sauce of any kind. I had a chalupa and it was good. It was a chalupa. I'll eat here again but man they really messed up with the green sauce because it's HIM you have to make happy on the green sauce. He lives for it. There was also a HUGE dead roach I won't post it under our table but believe it or not I understand you can't always prevent them in places and it was dead so no points. But to the owner. A customer isn't going to lie about asking for green and getting red. I realize cost is an issue these days but this really was something the cook should have rectified immediately and NOT tried to tell hubby he was wrong and asked for red sauce. That's ridiculous. He hates red sauce and he specifically said green. It was more than a little off putting and in 2 months we haven't gone back even tho I want too! read more

Alright so you guys have hit the nail on the head on this one it is a little small. It does remind me of that little dive Taco Shop I ordered the combination plate everything was cold on it with the exception of the crunchy taco... also placed an order for tripas tacos... They were great and extra crispy... the barbacoa burrito was also good my better half ordered the menudo and it was super good I was so lucky I got to finish it up read more

Disco Taco is now my go to place when I'm in Ruidoso. They started us off with free chips and salsa. The chips were fresh made and fried to perfection. The salsa was a little different than I'm used to but it was delicious and had a decent amount of heat. I like spicy food so it might be pretty hot for some people. I had the tripita tacos and they were excellent. Tripitas are easy to mess up and can be quite bad at times. These folks did them perfectly with just the right amount of crunch and the salsa was the perfect compliment to the tacos. My wife ordered a gordita and that was really good too. The masa had great flavor and the meat was seasoned just right. I can't wait till I'm going through Ruidoso again so I can try more of their food. read more

Our first visit here and also our last. We were told the wait would be 30 minutes, which surprised us because they were not too busy. But we agreed. An hour later, the waitress placed two "to go" containers on our table. The items were not what we had ordered. The waitress said it was someone else's order and took the containers. Ten minutes later she brought back the (now cold) containers and told us it was better than what we had ordered. By now we had waited well over an hour so we took the food. It was mediocre. Bad food, bad service...not an experience we care to repeat. Very disappointing. read more

Possibly the best tacos I've had! (And I've had many!) The guacamole was well worth it. It was made fresh and so were the tortilla chips. Then came the steak tacos--4 of them for $9, loaded with fresh ingredients and seasoned to perfection. She also makes her own salsa which is ridiculous. I highly recommend! read more

Seriously.... amazing tacos!!!! All the food we ordered was delicious, even my picky kiddo devoured a chicken taco (not Mexican style) and a beef crunchy taco! My husband ordered the chicken tacos Mexican style and they were spicy with the grilled jalapeños but he felt they were the best tacos he's ever had, and considering he grew up in New Mexico, that's impressive! My mom ordered the desebrada burrito Mexican style and said it was so flavorful! Oh, and I almost forgot the salsa was on point as well! I come here every time I'm in Ruidoso. I live for their tripita plate/tacos...they always take a little time to make, but they've been amazing for the past 20+ years. They make fantastic menudo too. The fine in area is a little small, but it you time it right, there will be room. It's a local fave, and I also like their salads and homemade (thicker style) chips. Stopped by on our way back home so glad we did. Menudo was good and the best part was the menudo was cut small. I asked for more hominy and thats exactly what I got. The gorditas were very good as well. My partner had tacos de carne asada and they were delicious as well. Waitress was very attentive and made sure we were well taken care of. read more

You must eat here! I tried the disco taco's and was blown away. This isn't just Mexican food, it is "New Mexican" food. The spices are amazing. Their guacamole was incredible. Disco Taco is a small restaurant with around 7 tables. We came in on a busy Sunday, and grabbed the one open table, ordered 10 minutes later. The food took over 45 minutes to hit the table. Wife ordered chicken tacos but be forewarned all dark meat, she said it was ok I ordered steak and eggs which was pretty good. If you show up on a busy day don't be in a hurry. This place does appear to serve pretty authentic Mexican food. read more

The food was ok, they only had on type of salsa and was just ok. But the one thing that really bothered me was that when you ordered tacos they would not let you try different meats. For example I wanted a el pastor, fajita, and tripa. But he told me that they only sold them in pairs of 4. I have been to Mexican restaurants all over the United States. We went here on a recommendation from a local. We were very disappointed. We were not expecting atmosphere and that was the only thing that was spot on from what the local said. The food was overly greasy and I like a little grease in my Mexican food. Beware, the chile con queso is not what you might think. It is melted cheese but VERY THICK and you eat it with mini tortillas not chips. There is no way you can dip it. I had a beef taco and my fiance had the disco burrito....both were underwhelming. The only star here is for the green salsa they served prior to the meal. That was very good and the warm tortilla chips were nice. The disco burrito was...well....interesting. The spices were fairly good but with all the grease dropping out of it, it just wasn't worth it. I think there might be a better place for Mexican food. There was nobody else there eating (never a good sign) but plenty of people sending money to Mexico (and elsewhere I suppose) at the counter. I wonder if there have been changes because I saw a sign outside that said "under new management"...maybe it was better before the change????? read more
