Yes, they carry a variety of Donald Trump pinatas for all your party needs! Comes complete with (unofficial Make America Great Again) red cap or comb-over hair, and suited up in ballroom dance fundraiser black or campaign trail blue. Surprisingly, pinata Trump's yellow hair has generous scalp coverage and his skin tone is more peachy than the usual Cheetos-tinged fake tan, but you get the gist. I bought a hatless Trump for a birthday/preposada celebration and it was a hit, literally! There is no opening to stuff him, but all you need is a blade to slit a door in his backside, then tape shut. Again, we're talking two different stores that aren't even affiliated. I The red awning one is where you wanna go for shelving and electronics or appliances, kitchen supplies, water heaters, and vacuum bottles. The green awning has decent lower end manual tools or tool accessories, meal containers, bit of foodstuffs like Shasta sodas, decent party supplies for that backyard get-together. Former closes earlier than latter, both are pretty good in their respective markets! If you want nicer stuff, you go to the red awning, and if you need paper plates or a regular basic screwdriver, green awning. If you're coming from 24th street BART, you have to pass the green awning one heading in the direction of 23rd street to get to red awning one even though its address number is higher because SF address numbering makes no sense, particularly along Mission. This is confusing, because there are two stores with the same name. Here's the rundown: Discount City 2786/2784 Mission, and kinda' SF Tropical next door at 2768 Mission. Lotsa' cheap stuff cheap. Some excellent deals on slippers and household stuff. They're pretty nice to me, and the prices are really good on a lot of housewares, etc. NOT Discount City at 2762 Mission a couple stores down, which is a total rip-off! Strange--same name, but a huge difference! They completely overcharged me, which I questioned at the register, then let go. Rude rude rude. I've shopped here a number of times and never had any issues. This last encounter will make me not shop here again. That half Chinese/half English small print warns you of potential lead-poisoning. -face and body products. You don't know what kind of weird chemicals are in there and you're going to smear it on your face and body? Bad plan, beauty queen. -food. I am a yelpist food critic, after all. -clothes (except socks). "Oh this shirt is surprisingly inexpensive and pretty cute! I'll just try it on and... oh shit... I washed it once and now its a pile of strings and a button." -anything with movable parts. You bought it for a dollar. How long do you think that hinge/button/lever is going to last? -gifts. You cheap bastard. Okay, with all that out of the way, there are some things that are a great value if you aren't expecting too much: -cleaning equipment. Need some sponges or scrub brushes or kitchen towels? These are things that get filthy and there's no reason to spend a ton on them. Cheap ones clean up just as well. -toilet paper, etc. C'mon. You don't need brand names to wipe your ass. -Office supplies. A lot of products are just fine, like tape, staples, loose-leaf paper, folders, etc. Others will do in a pinch, if you can handle wide-ruled notebooks, Hannah Montana binders, and pens of varying levels of ink quality. -The occasional why-the-hell-not purchase, like a piñata, Zach Efron nightlight, or Es Un Niño! wrapping paper. -Festive decor. For $8, you can make your house look like a ten-year-old's birthday at high school prom coincided at Christmas. So go forth and thrift. Overall this is not a bad place, but on my last 2 visits I was overcharged on sales tax. It appears they are rounding the tax up on your purchase. First time I bought 2 items which totaled $9.98, I was charged $11.00 with tax, about 2% more than the tax rate. Since a kid was working the counter I made no issue of it. Last week I bought another item for $4.99 and was charged $5.50 with tax, this is again about 2% more than the tax rate, so it was not the kid's error. I did not get a bag nor did I ask for one (since SF started charging for bags @ 10 cents each), so I was overcharged on the sales tax... If you are going to shop there ask for a printed receipt for your purchase and check it against your change, they usually don't give receipts at the smaller store, I think to hide they are overcharging you on the sales tax. The sales tax rate is going up in January of 2013 with the passage of proposition 30, so I shudder to consider what they will try then. I'd like 2% added to my salary but I would have to earn it. These folks don't have the right to add 2% to your purchase price just because they think they are entitled to do so... read more

Today was my last day EVER shopping here. The owner is very rude as I was getting cleaning supplies I noticed the floor was wet and quickly realized it was my cleaner that was dripping. As I was closing it, the owner of store very rudely tells me to not open it and I told calmly that I did not. He then rudely again tells me to leave it he was going clean it. I was getting another one and still was going to purchase the one that spilled, and he continued to say those come closed they don't open, all of them are closed, STILL BLAMING ME. At this point I was mad because I know I did not open it and kept telling him. My mom got mad at said leave everything don't buy anything from him and he goes on to say yeah yeah leave! He is so disrespectful and will never be shopping here again, and yes he was the owner, I know bc I've came to this store since I was kid, I've lived in the mission my whole life so I was very disappointed in the owner and I hope he learns to be more respectful and that people realize how rude he actually is. read more

Definitely good for recreational shopping! This place (and please note there are two stores having different items, next to each other) is not quite as fun as One Dollar Only (across the street), but has a few things that one doesn't. For example, the other day I bought some nice big steel bike hooks to screw into your garage ceiling. I always find myself wandering into "99 cent" stores, finding useless pieces of junk at dirt-cheap prices. I was looking for a spray bottle and found one for $0.99, which costs at least $2.00 at Walgreens. What shocked me the most was when I found my moisturizer of choice being sold for $2.00, which I usually buy at Walgreens for $6.99 (same brand, size, etc.). It's places like these that come in handy when you're broke and need some 99 cent batteries. And who really needs Energizer or Duracell? As long as it works, right? This is your run of the mill discount store. The have everything from pots and pans and kitchen storage boxes to fancy, decorative Jesus statuaries. The worker-bees have always been friendly to me and answer any questions I have about where stuff is located in the store. One random thing that may be useful to someone, somewhere is that they have canes here on the cheap. Walgreens sells them for $20-$30. Discount City sells them for $6, and they are equally as good. It seems to be one of the few discount stores that sells them in the Mission. Other than that they have general around-the-house tools and odds and ends, though it doesn't have the selection of some of the larger dollar stores up the street. read more

I bought some stale skittles from this store. I swear they must have been a thousand years old and if I had tried to eat them I would have seriously injured my jaw. I tried returning them a moment later without opening them and he refused to give me my money back only allowing me to exchange them for some thousand year old starburst. Most items aren't priced, and the cashiers don't tell you prices unless you ask, so you can get charged more than you expect unless you ask the price of every single item. I asked the owner a couple times to mark the prices and he refused. Discount City is becoming more worn, and less well maintained -- more dirt and dust -- though the store next to it is better, and has more "big-ticket" items, like coffee makers and such -- I got a wonderful red toaster for $20 there. The worst aspect of Discount City is the incredibly rude manager ("John"). I've had a few unpleasant interactions that reveal that he is quite mean spirited (with no provocation at all!). He has yelled at me, and others, on occasion. There can be slippery pricing, also, with items being more expensive than they should be. I have decided it is not worth it to patronize this store. In the Excelsior District (4631 Mission), there is a true $1 store (not $1.49, or whatever price is decided on at the time), which I love. read more

There are ACTUALLY two stores nearly side by side apparently run by the same Middle Eastern family, The store pictured is ok, nothing special at all... the other two doors down is much bigger and 98% of the stuff is ONE DOLLAR. A lot of junk but also a lot of stuff that costs much more at Walgreen's. Nothing with moveable parts will last more than a week... but basic things.. dryer non-cling strips, scarves, bandages, packing tape, etc., is a bargain. I have been buying junk here for years and what really annoyed me is that I bought several HELIUM BALLOONS ($2 each) and one was deflated by the time I got home 10 min later. I returned the following day and the manager told me 1. that balloons lasted only one day (news to me) and 2. that I must have popped the balloon myself... WHAT AN A**HOLE! I know it's not NORDSTROM's but he knew me and still treated me like sh*t. To HELL with this dump I will go elsewhere. read more
