They advertise a low price just to get in the door, but within seconds of arriving, the price tripled with zero real inspection. It was obvious the goal was never to honor the original quote. I was told a camera inspection would be FREE--never happened. Instead, they tried to charge me a camera fee anyway. Then they added another charge just for "locating the main," which was never disclosed upfront. Even worse, I still honored the original agreement and paid the $125 service fee to keep my word--and they did absolutely NOTHING. No actual work completed, no problem resolved. Just charged for their time and bogus fees. Then came the pressure tactics--pushing inflated hourly rates as the "only option." When I refused to be taken advantage of further, they still attempted to justify the charges. This is not how an honest business operates. Having my front concrete driveway torn out and repaved soon so I wanted to make sure my main sewer line that runs under it, and is now 42 years old, is good to go. I was referred to Discount Drain Cleaning from another plumbing company I've used regularly who are great too (Frontier Plumbing). Made an appointment with Discount and they came out next day in the morning. Two friendly gentlemen inspected the sewer line under the house and going out to the street main via a camera that I was able to watch along with them. It was actually a pretty cool experience. Thankfully, there wasn't much wrong aside from a couple build-ups that I then opted to have hydro-jetted cleaned for peace of mind. They performed the task professionally and I paid the bill. Done. After doing research I felt the pricing was fair for what was performed - the expertise, know-how, a detailed inspection that you're able to watch alongside, recommendations and explanation, all questions answered, and a deep cleaning under the house and to the street. Discount saved my ass with what they did for me. I have an older home whose cast iron drain piping was in bad shape and causing multiple problems. I received 2 other quotes and all they wanted to do is rip up the concrete, wreck counter tops and ONLY take 3-4 weeks. Which meant my wife, her 6 cats, my older brother (who needs care) and myself had to leave for that amount of time. They quoted an estimated $30K+ with at least $1200 for us to be out of the house. Walter came by assessed the problem, sent his crew in to video everything and quoted a non-destructive trenchless piping fix to my problem. The trenchless piping fix was considerably less $ and could be completed in a time frame we could live with. They took care of all of the necessary County paperwork and started on the fix. It took several days, but we were only mildly with use of toilets and the rare water shutoff. During their lunch break and at the end of the day, we had moderate use of everything, which was great. They explained everything that was going on and there no real surprises as to any added work. We knew going in that there may be some added work, but it was minimal. I cannot tell you how refreshing it is to deal with a contractor that is honest, has competitive prices and is totally upfront with all aspects of the project. I am here to support my clients review. I am the realtor who have been using this company for years because I personally know Walter and he had always been honest. Recently I referred another client to him, they are an older couple, unfortunately, they were taken advantage of. The operator first told my client that the valve wasn't properly connected. I called for the details for my client, she then told me the valve was actually fine, just wasn't turned on all the way... So I asked: "$175 to just turn on the valve?" The operator: " No it was the service fee to send out the technician". I asked: "$175 to just send out a technician? Most importantly, you never disclosed it?" The operator: "...our technician spent time to get there...it was 1.5 hours..." At this point, what she said didn't make sense anymore. The sewer line of my main residence had recently experienced a main line backup. Walter examined the situation by camera, saw that my line was pretty damaged at various points by massive pine tree roots pressing against the line. The price was reasonable to replace all of the damaged line, and replace the shutoff to my water line that I felt was too rusted out. The roots even screwed up the slope of the line, which Walter's guys made much better and now it has a much smoother flow when water and waste enters the pipe. These guys worked long and hard to get the job done, while always being careful to avoid any damage to the water line, which was running very close to the sewer line.. He even sent in the secret weapon, Miguel, better known in plumbing circles as 'el leon de Tijuana,' to handle the backfill portion of the work. An unbelievable saga of a one-star plumber pretending to be the good guy. Walter is a real piece of work. Hired them based on a neighbor's recommendation a month ago in November. Initially, they quoted $75 for the service call. Once they got here, it went up to $300, and because they had to go up on the roof, the price jumped to $700. Fine, we paid it. The owner knew I wasn't having these price spikes so he sneakily went around me and charged my husband. I called him about it later. To make matters worse, they never fixed the issue we initially called about (tub drain stoppage). I left a very well deserved ONE STAR review when they asked for a review. Then, Walter sent emails and texts asking me to change my review. I told him he never performed the work we asked him to do. He scheduled to come out to complete the work today, Tuesday, 12/19/2023 with my husband. Not only did Walter not show up as promised, he sent his plumber without any equipment to perform the work. I called Discount Drain and of course, Walter did not take my call but he did show up only to give another song and dance about how he doesn't have the equipment because it's ON ANOTHER JOB. Mind you, I've waited a month for them to do this work - it's now almost the end of the year and this guy sends his plumber alone without equipment and then shows up to tell me he doesn't have the equipment. Please be aware of this dishonest plumbing company. Over the phone they quoted me $150 to clean my sewer line at a 30 day guarantee, and for an extra $100, if needed, they would use the camera. When the tech was done, he stated it would be $350. When I called the manager and told him he quoted me only $150, he told me that I had misheard him. I did not because I wrote it down while he said it initially. Make sure any quote you receive over the phone is in writing. He agreed to the initial $150 quote but rudely told me to never call them again. Like I'm going to call them again after this occurred.
