Mike M. should have given this place a fair chance before knocking it. The owner Phil used to have a shop on Ventura, i went there to look around about a year ago but didnt buy anything. He was nice and helpful. Fast forward to 2 weeks ago and i needed a full size mattress for my sons new bed. So i called and found out he closed his shop but sells out of his house. I was alittle weary but i know hes legit cause i visited him a year ago and i figured "what the hell...well give it a shot". I called a few places and saw that averaged price full sets were 400-500 hundred bucks. My wife and I went to Phils house and he showed us a couple different ones in his garage set up like a little showroom and we picked a nice, firm pillow top set for $230. Dont worry...they are brand new wrapped in plastic. He said he uses a guy who delivers the mattresses the next day for $35 who only takes cash. Now youre thinking "This is a receipe for disaster....since heres this shady guy doing business out of his garage and uses a third party mexican dude who charges $35 and only takes cash....its gotta be a scam or fake" Right??? well, trust me...hes legit. if i didnt physically go to his store a year ago...id never believe it, but Phils a older guy who answers your questions, doesnt pressure you and you can tell has been selling mattresses for over 35 years. We received the mattress the next day on schedule and the dude delivering them was nice and set them up for us The only negative things are since he sells out of his garage, the variety is very small and i told him that i visited him a year ago and he wasn't like "thanks for remembering me" or "thanks for coming back to me after a year". I have a business and when people use me again a year later, im very appreciative and tell them "thanks for giving me another shot", things like that. But its not a major biggie. Anyway...my sons bed has been up and running for a couple weeks now and its sooo comfy. My wife and I are gonna need a Cal King soon and we will definately go back to this place. read more

We walked in to Discount Fine Mattress & Furniture because we woke up that morning from the worst night's sleep on our old queen. We had no idea what it entailed to find a new mattress. Are we going to have to sell a kidney to afford one? What type is going to be best for us? How do we know we're making the right purchase? etc. You have a mattress for at least 10 years and spend a third of your life sleeping. It's an important purchase. We had breakfast in Encino and I simply found this place because it was the closest on my GPS. I think it was divine mattress intervention. Phil answered all our questions and more by asking us a few. Did we stand a lot at work? Are we behind a desk? Do we sleep on the edge of the bed or in the middle more? He also took into account that I'm much smaller than my guy. So he helped us pick a foam mattress that wouldn't sink over time on one side. In the end, he wasn't pushy in any way. Just informative, because he's been selling mattresses for 40 years. The price was half of what we expected to pay, it was in stock, box spring was included, and we got to take it home and sleep on it that night. And the California King mattress we chose is amazing! I went here on the recommendation of my best friend and got a fantastic mattress at an unbelievable price. The whole experience was a breeze. The owner, Phil, asked me questions to gauge what type of mattress I was looking for and led me through various rooms to try out each one. He also left me alone to spend as much time as I needed to pick out the one that worked best for my body. He wasn't pushy, just very knowledgeable and told me more than I would ever need to know about coils, springs, foam, etc. He actually sells out of a house, so best to call first and let him know you are coming. I stumbled upon this store when I was looking for my first bed after moving away from the on-campus housing in college. They made it so easy to get a new mattress and boxspring, delivered it the next day, and it was surprisingly affordable. I recommend it to everyone who asks me where to get a mattress in LA. Phil was fantastic. He insisted we lay completely on the mattress and make sure it was comfortable with both of us in the bed. It was a little weird going to his garage to see his inventory, but he explained that he is semi retired and uses his connections from his Las Vegas store to get top quality mattresses. I read the other reviews, and being female and small, I was also weary. Yes, Phil sells the mattresses out of his home, but as everyone else has said, he's a legitimate salesman and the prices are unbeatable. Not unbeatable as in the same as every other street vendor, but actually unbeatable. I didn't think I could afford a memory foam mattress because in the ten other stores I tried out, they're $700 and up... usually in the thousands. He had two choices for memory foam when I got there and I purchased the slightly firmer one for $320. Queen. His other one was slightly softer, for $240! That one was a better seller too, I just like a firmer mattress, because memory foam is soft to begin with.. If you don't need a box spring, they are rolled up and easy to fit into your car. I got a box spring from him for under $100 bucks and a delivery guy for $50, and I live 40 minutes away. read more

Phil is great and the customer service he provides is great. I would give him five stars alone, but the three star review is for the representative from Springfield Mattress, the company that makes the bed I purchased. I would give the representative NO stars, but I don't want to destroy Phil's good rating because I would still recommend his store to someone. Here's what happened. I bought a bed from Phil in February. Mattress and box spring. He gave me a great deal and I was happy. I told him I need a firm mattress because soft mattresses hurt my back. I had gone to all the big stores but a friend bought her mattress from Phil and loved it. I would also much rather support a local business owner than a chain store, so I felt good about my choice. I bought a Springfield Mattress, firm, with euro top. The euro top was so comfy and the bed felt firm... it seemed like a perfect match. My bed was delivered shortly after making my purchase and I was a happy camper. I had been sleeping on a twin at my first LA apartment so you can imagine how happy I was to plop down right in the middle of my new queen sized mattress that very first night. Two weeks later I started to notice that my "firm" mattress was sagging in the middle. I could lay down in the middle of the mattress and if I turned one way or the other I could feel the sag in the middle of the bed. I called Phil and he asked if I had rotated the mattress yet. I hadn't (it had only been 2 weeks) so I did that and he said to call back in a few weeks if I was still having the same problem. I let a couple of months go by and, yes, I was still having the problem. I found myself only sleeping on the sides of my bed because sleeping in the sagging part was hurting my back. Sleeping on the sides of the mattress helped with the back pain but was upsetting because if I was going to sleep in that small of an area I would've just bought a twin and saved a lot of money. Also, btw, I'm 5'6" and weigh 110 pounds, so it's not like I have a lot of extra weight causing a dent in the middle of the bed. I thought maybe it was just the Euro top conforming to my body. I was hopeful that it would remedy itself. But I started to get back pain. Every night I would alternate which side of the bed I slept on but, as I move around when I sleep, inevitably I would end up in the middle and wake up with back pain. I called Phil again and, being that I have a one year warranty, he connected me with the representative from Springfield Mattress. And that is where the real frustration began. I called the mattress representative in the beginning of July and he told me to email him a photo of the bed, which I did. Over two weeks and NO response later, I emailed him a second time. Still no response. I called and he told me he was out of town and he would look at the email when he got back. That didn't happen. So I called him AGAIN and left a message. I finally got a voice message from him on August 9th. He told me that our only option was to have the bed taken in and "evaluated". I have called him three times since then and he has not answered his phone. I left him a message this morning, letting him know how frustrated I was and that I am NOT a satisfied customer. At this point I am ready to go get an entirely new mattress and be done with it... which is ridiculous and something I can't afford to do. Funnily enough, I heard back from him within a couple of hours of leaving a stressed out, nearly in tears (waking up with back pain is FRUSTRATING) message. He told me he was on his way out of town and that we could see if next week we could bring my mattress in to the factory and firm up the middle somehow. So what exactly will that entail? I don't want you to "see" what you can do, I want a solution to my sagging bed. I have no idea how they can pass this off as a firm mattress when it sags in the middle. I slept at a friend's house the other night who has an actual firm mattress and it was heaven. Slept through the night and had no pain in the morning. Again... the frustration in this letter is directed at the representative from Springfield Mattress company. Phil is a nice man and a good salesman and I certainly plan on calling him to tell him how the representatives of the mattresses he sells treat his customers. read more

We went here after visiting a mattress store down the street with big brand recognition. The fact is, we liked mattresses at both stores, but we ended up buying from Discount Fine Mattress because 1) Phil was extremely knowledgeable and was able to help us identify what we wanted, and 2) the price was right! If you are shopping for a mattress, this place is worth your time. After shopping around for a few days looking for a mattress, I found this store in Encino. I happen to drive by on Ventura and see it. I stopped in and talked to a gentleman named Phil who I guess owns the store. He is nice and knowledgeable about what he sells, which by the way you don't find much now-a-days.
