A much better vibe than our previous eye doctor in Leawood. Let me start by saying Dr. Niebuhr is amazing! I told her my complaints of wearing contacts and how they felt on my eyes. She did her magic (took measurements) and gave me a sample pair and the rest is history. Apparently I have different vision per eyeball and more of an astigmatism on my left. So far so good, I don't even feel them in my eyes at all! My previous doc said I had the same vision in both eyes but for whatever reason i still had the same complaints that my eyes just wouldn't cooperate and I would get headaches frequently while wearing contacts. Now I know why! ‍ Luckily a friend recommended Grin eye care a few months ago and I think I found our new family eye doctor! I'll be sure to follow up if things start to go south...

My mother searched around and found that Cibis was one of the top in the country in treating strabismus. I have been a patient of his for over 20 years now and he had dramatically improved my vision from what it was (as well as the eye alignment). I'm happy to say that after my last strabismus surgery in 2008 from Cibis and numerous check ups since then (about every 6 mo to 1 yr) my eye alignment has remained fixed! It looks like I never had strabismus to begin with. Also, had a really nasty eye infection last April and Cibis was able to see me quickly and prescribed antibiotic eye drops that did the trick!

However, when he attempted to inject lidocaine into my eyelid before the procedure, he injected the lidocaine into my left eye. The lidocaine included ingredients toxic to my eye, leading to excruciating pain, permanent eye damage, and disfigurement. As you can see by the attached picture, my eye is permanently disfigured. I was only 34 years old at the time of the incident, and it has caused immeasurable distress in my life. To make things worse, neither Dr. Chappell nor his employer, Moyes Eye Center, have taken any responsibility for their actions, despite Dr. Chappell admitting this under oath during his deposition: Q. Are you aware that one of the allegations in this case is that you inadvertently injected Lidocaine into her eye? A. Yes. Q. Are you able to rule out that that occurred during the procedure? ** A. I cannot rule it out. ** A. There's a number of possible causes for her postoperative post-procedure course. Q. And I know you went through some of them with me, but my question for you is are you aware if the doctors at Moyes who were -- who saw Ms. Dehnert in 2022, if you all were able to reach a consensus about the cause of her postoperative issues? A. Through many discussions and many evaluations, we have possible intraocular injection of medication as the most likely cause, with a number of other possible causes. I have been forced to hire an attorney and this matter remains unresolved, with Dr. Chappell denying my claims and offering me no compensation for my injuries.
