I wish I could give them negative stars!! They failed to ever diagnose the boat, and started doing work on what we said we thought it might be without knowing for sure. He then tried to put in a rebuilt part vs a new one without asking us what we wanted to do he did work without getting our approval. Then he had the nerve to get angered with us when we told him it was illegal to do work on any automotive vessel without customer approval. He then refused to do any more work, stopped replying to calls and texts, and left our boat taken apart. They never provided us with any invoice or any receipts to show us what they actually did, I think because they never did anything at all and were just trying to take our money. We had to bring it elsewhere to get fixed and it costs us over twice as much as it should have because of the incompetence and unethical business practices done by the Chandlery. We found pieces of the boat that should have been reattached sitting in the cup holders. The boat was left in shambles complete a mess dirty (shoe prints all over the seats) and not put back together. I think they saw 2 younger people and thought they could scam us. There's a reason they aren't accredited by the better business bureau. I'm now looking into small claims court. read more

Don't let the Chandlery touch your boat, they don't know what they are doing and have horrible customer service. During an annual fluid change preformed by the Chandlery, they did not install the oil filter properly, causing 6 liters of oil dumped in the hull of my boat. They apologized and said they would make it right, clean all the oil out and make it new again. Unfortunately after having the boat in their possession for two weeks, and multiple opportunities they were not able to clean all the oil. They tried and said it was the best that they could do, but they simply did not have the equipment or knowhow to clean the oil out. So I requested that we go to a 3rd party to clean the boat, they said fine and I would let them know the cost. I took the boat to a professional boat shop and luckily they were able to get it clean. It cost me over $500 and the Chandlery will not pay for it, saying they could have had it done by their vendor for cheaper. Weird thing is they never even offered. Not only was I over charged for the oil change, the Chandlery will not reimburse me for the clean out. Honestly, I was not upset with the mistake. I gave the Chandlery plenty of patience and opportunity, it is just sad that they will not make it right...and rude about it too. Stay away! read more

Took over 2 months for simple repairs. Horrible communication. The mechanic walks all over vinyl interior with his shoes on. $1,000's of damage to the swim decking from leaving the boat there. Literally every piece on the boat has been torn up by some kind of animal. I did leave it there covered- obviously they didn't store it that way. Told me the boat was finished no less than 3 times. When I show up they are still working on it. Why?? I'm 1-1/2 hours away so this unnecessarily wasted multiple weekends for me. The first time I came to pick up the boat I notice the check engine lights came on (they weren't on when I brought it there). They told me I needed to take the boat anyway since they didn't have room. This is a huge inconvenience to me and when I bring it back they charge me the trailering fee again! I shouldn't have been called to pick it up and then shouldn't have been made to pick it up then I'm being charged for that? C'mon. They wouldn't give me the invoice before I showed up- these guys really know how to scam people. There is lots more to say but hopefully you get the point. read more

One star, because it's required. I had a drive shaft seal replaced on my boat. The first time I took it out afterwards my drive shaft nearly fell off. Turns out they never reattached the drive shaft to the transmission. I had to argue with the owner to get them to fix it. She claimed it wasn't their fault. Fast forward - the seal is still leaking. I took it to a more reputable shop and found the original seal was still in place. It wasn't replaced. The drive shaft mount was damaged from the cavitation and not being attached properly ... come to find out the oil/filter change I also paid for ... not done. The original oil filter was still there with the gel coat overspray from the factory. So no, I do not recommend Discovery Bay Chandlery. Had they picked up the phone to return one of my many calls, this post would have been unnecessary... read more

I would actually give the Chandlery ZERO stars. I keep reading how Dave is SUCH a nice guy. Of course he's "nice." He's pilfering people's wallets. My personal experience is repeatedly attempting to get Dave to fix a boat problem which was paid for a YEAR ago, to no avail. All I've gotten from him is excuse after excuse - too busy, sickness, then setting actual appointments and not even showing up or calling. The Chandlery is a complete RIPOFF. If you are in need of a dependable repair person, look elsewhere. Dave is DEFINITELY not it. read more

First off DB Chandlery is VERY reasonable with their fees. Second they honored their service by sending a technician 75 (yes that is right 75 MILES) to replace a defective starter--not their fault at all. Lisa and Dave are nice people who have to deal with very demanding people and they maintain their calm. They are busy so the best thing I could tell someone who wants to have them 'work' or look at or on their boat is to give them as MUCH lead time as possible. Great place to get boat parts! If they do not have a part in stock (unusual for me) then they order it and have it the next day. Their prices are really competitive even with the Internet! Some times they are a few bucks more but by the time you pay shipping or have to wait a week for the part you could have spend a few dollars more and had it that day or the next. Great customer service! Always willing to explain how a part will install. I purchased one defective item and they replaced it with no questions asked even after I installed it and broke it into pieces. read more

We needed a spare prop to have on the boat for a long trip (just in case). Lisa was incredibly accommodating. She placed the order for the exact prop size we needed and Dave provided us with a prop that would work on a temporary basis since we waited to the last minute to get one. I called them today to see if they had the zinc's for my outdrive. The girl that answered the phone had no idea what outdrive "zincs" are. I explained that they are sacrificial anodes that protect the outdrive. She still had no clue what I was talking about. She then asked someone else that worked there if he knew what they were. He did know...and they carried some in stock. progress! I then gave her the year make and model of my O/D. She finally said... we have a bunch of them and you'll have to come in to see if we have yours. I said, "I'm not coming all the way in there unless I know you have them. Can you please just check and see if you have the ones I need". She again said in a somewhat frustrated tone "you'll just have to come in". Obviously, I didn't go in... I wanted to keep my business local but I ended up ordering my parts ($80 bucks worth) on the Internet. Sad but true. read more

Hey Lisa is the best.....Our trip to this business had nothing to do with boating parts or repair. We were camping on the delta for the weekend. My boyfried had awaken on Saturday morning with red, swollen eyes and droopy lids....We went into Discovery Bay by water had lunch then went into Discovery Bay Chandlery looking for eye drops. Explained the situation to Lisa and she said she is from a family of optometrists and looked like pink eye. She suggested using an ointment on the eyelids a few times a day. They didn't sell the ointment......but she offered to drive to the local pharmacy and purchase the medication for us if we had time to wait. We had time to wait and off she went, back in maybe 10 minutes with eye drops and ointment. Saved our weekend, he was back to normal by Monday. Thanks Lisa.... read more

Since he started providing our yearly maintenance, we have ceased to have mid-summer boating failures. He recently got our jet ski up and running after it sucked up a tarp. Today I asked him for help diagnosing a stereo problem and he had no problem stopping what he was doing to verify that it was just a quick replace of a fuse and did it on the spot, and didn't even let me pay him! I'm totally satisfied with the service I have received from Dave of the DB Chandlery. I had to have my steering cable replaced. Because of the unique construction of our boat, it was a more difficult job than he anticipated, but he stuck with his committed price and the workmanship great. He also took care of a few other minor things that were discovered in the process, which I really appreciated. We also used Dave to fix a problem with our Perfect Pass speed control system. I had tried to have another mechanic work on it, and they claimed it was fixed but when I tried it, nothing had changed. Dave identified the issue, ordered the part, and again installed it at a very reasonable price for the part and labor. Getting on his schedule is a problem, so it is good to give him plenty of advanced notice. I believe that if it's something which prevents you from using the boat, he would find a way to fit you in sooner. Obviously, we'd all like things to be fixed the next day. However, for my $ I value quality work done right the first time over a half-assed job done quickly. read more

Great experience! I have a 19 year old Cobalt 220 that was purchased in August. Even though it was kept in great shape it needed a very thorough check and tune up. A friend recommended them. From the start Lisa was very professional in getting me scheduled and explaining what they would do along with an approximate price to do the work. Dave did great work and finished on time. He gave me a fully detailed report of what was done and a motor history. He also took care of some wiring issues with my trailer that I asked him last minute to look at. He even put the boat in the water for me after bringing back from his shop. Then before I could walk back up to the parking lot he was hooking my trailer to my truck! As soon as I started the motor I could tell the difference. The test drive proved the same. It now runs much stronger and no stalling. I would definitely recommend Dave and Lisa and will be bringing my boat back as needed. Side note:They both came in on their day off to accommodate my schedule to deliver the boat after the service. The whole experience showed me that they have a high level of commitment to great service. On top of it all they only added 1 hour labor for the additional wiring that I asked them to fix last minute. I know that it took longer than that to diagnose and repair. read more

Over promise under deliver and DONT PAY UNTIL YOUR JOB IS COMPLETED because it will take them for ever but your better off going somewhere else all together they replaced my motor and i got 5 hours out of it before it blew and now I have a engine full of water. Plus they decided to start avoiding me. but they started off nice and serve cold drinks which dousnt count for anything but its worth mentioning. wish there was a zero stars option. read more
