Our son has been attending Discovery Isle since he was 4 months old and the teachers in the Infant Care room have taken such great care of him! As new parents we have learned so much from his amazing teachers who have so much experience and expertise when it comes to all the changes babies go through especially in their first year of life! The teachers send photos and videos of our son throughout the day which always bring a smile to our faces. There is also an app where we can send messages to the teachers and they do such a great job with answering all our questions and giving us recommendations. We love Discovery Isle in San Marcos! Our son is 22 months and in the 1-2 year old class with Miss Meghan and Miss Victoria, and they are both amazing teachers. They are genuinely compassionate and seem to really care about the kids. The front office staff and principal are also super nice and helpful and everyone that works there seems happy. They have a great team. Our son loves going there and we have never had to worry about him being well taken care of when we drop him off every day. read more

I love this place and so does my 20 month old. Every other preschool that I toured was chaotic and toys everywhere and kids screaming. I walk into my daughters room and there are framed family photos and thoughtfully placed out toys and projects for kids to play with. Clean environment and loving attention. Daily updates on a app are my favorite! Mrs Lupe and Mrs Taylor are great teachers! It's hard to get my daughter to leave everyday. She loves it! read more

My little one started Discovery Isle at 4.5 months old and we have had such a great experience with the teachers and the admin team. Everyone has been so friendly, taken the time to get to know us and our son and we know that he is safe and happy whenever he is in their care. It can be really hard to find a place when your children are so young, and I would not hesitate to recommend Discovery Isle. Summer and Rochelle are both kind and empathic administrators and Lupe, Rocio and Elizabeth have been incredibly caring teachers supporting his growth and development. I wanted to write an update because our daughter has now been at Discovery Isle for the last three years and we've just enrolled our infant son to start later in the fall as well! As we've gone through the years we have absolutely adored all of our daughter's teachers, as has she. Each classroom she's progressed through has challenged her educationally as well as given her ample opportunity to play, make friends, and grow as a little girl. We are always so amazed at how much she learns weekly! About a year ago they updated to something called the Tadpole system which sends home electronic daily reports as well as gives the teachers in each classroom a chance to snap pictures and send them to the parents throughout the day. We love getting those emails! When drop off is easy and pick up is hard... you know your kid loves school! :) read more

I wanted to update my review and after reading the other negative comments about this school. My children have been at this school for over 4 years and I have nothing but great things to say. My children come home everyday so happy and can't stop talking about their day. I feel that this is not just a school, but a family. It is disheartening that only the negative reviews get show cased when there are 13-5 star reviews on the unfiltered section below. And, I question the review from CC R. when they talk about their "horrible" experience here. If you look that their other reviews that they were at another Discovery Isle and wrote negative things about them. If you had such a bad experience there why did they go to another one? read more

My daughter has been attending Discovery Isle for almost 2 years now, and my husband and I couldn't be happier! She started in the Infant Center ( Which is PHENOMENAL- the teachers are so warm and welcoming, made the drop off an ease). She is now in the toddler class and the teachers just continue to get better and better! Her vocabulary is growing, and her socialization skills are developing. All and all this has been a positive experience, and we are only looking forward to our daughter growing here at Discovery Isle. On a side note- I know everyone is entitled to their opinion, but after reading the negative reviews a lot of them seem very "empty" on their claims. Like I said to each their own, but I know I have had a remarkable experience here so far! read more

My son was going to this preschool for almost 2 years. The staff, at the time seemed to me as very caring, until I found out that it may have been all a facade. My son, for the most part, had always been able to express his emotions, even at a very young age. Several times in the beginning of the year had he mentioned being bullied and physically hurt, and I had spoken to his teacher about it, and it had stopped for a while, or so I thought. He had become more reserved about his feelings, and it had become more difficult to drop him off at school. He would cry everyday. I found out too late that my son was scared and scarred. His teacher would embarrass him and became verbally abusive. Apparently, she was like this to most of the children in her class. She would make the kids laugh at him if he was crying. I had also learned that he was being bullied by a couple of brothers that have been problematic from the beginning. I would find bruises on his body, but according to the staff, they were from rough play in the playground. I was always told that he was always well disciplined and polite...and sensitive. I believe part of that comes from his upbringing, and it may possibly be because he was simply scared of authoritative figures, especially his teacher. Although, the teacher is no longer teaching there, I did speak with the staff, and they had mentioned that is the first they have heard of this teacher ever embarrassing a child. I personally hope she no longer considers a career in teaching because no child deserves this, especially as young and undeveloped as these kids are. It is safe for me to say that I am not only parent who felt that this particular facility does not provide a safe, clean, and nurturing environment for our children. Although, they may promote early learning, they do not promote social and emotional development. They need to better screen these so called, "child care providers, " and continue to screen them in the process. As of currently, my son is excelling in several areas academically and socially. He has an incredible teacher who has helped him excel in so many areas and has helped him continue to grow. read more

Horrible experience here. Don't be fooled by the admin staff, this place is terrible. There's an old teacher here overseeing the 3-4 year olds that has been at the school for years, - she is rough, sarcastic, and yells at the kids. Forget trying to approach anyone about it, they're just as unhappy as she is. Observe the parents as they grudgingly drop off their kids every morning. Prestige is a much better option and just up the road. It's new, clean, and teachers and kids look happy. read more

My daughter has been at Discovery Isle (rancho Santa fe/Melrose) for over 3 years now...It has been the worst school I have ever come in contact with and I have worked at just about every school in Oceanside for over 3 years myself as a substitute. I keep hoping that the school will work out for my daughter, but they finally went too far, and called CPS on me after I gave my daughter a haircut...(just below ears:) Also, one of my daughter's teachers, in 2010, stated in a letter, that my daughter had severe learning disabilities, as if she was qualified to diagnose conditions. When a real therapist reviewed my daughter, in all areas, she stated that my daughter was completely normal. It seems teachers may not be happy or qualified at the school. I understand all schools have issues, but DI has too many. Please go public or elsewhere. get to know the teachers, their education, and the aids! Through research, it seems public schools have higher standards for education, hiring, and calling CPS. I am hoping you never get burned as bad as my family has with any school. And my last advise....hangout in the class for a day...do research on the school and teachers...dont just let them go blind. Schools are like parents...some a re great some are good and some like DI and well you can figure it out. read more

I really can't say enough about how much Discovery Isle has helped my family. We signed up our 2 children there in Feb 2016, they are 5 and 4 years old. Our 4 year old is mildly autistic, and we had to pull him out of his previous pre-school because they were not equipped to handle him. Since he has been at Discovery Isle, he is calmer, talking SO much more- even saying complete sentences, which is a HUGE improvement for him. The teachers at Discovery Isle are not necessarily trained to work with autistic children, but they are patient, kind, loving and very intelligent. The principle Summer is wonderful. She has been an amazing advocate for our son and works closely with us and his teachers to work out any kinks that come along. Our daughter has flourished as well. Her language and social skills have enhanced immensely! She will go into kindergarten ahead of the game for sure. The curriculum is quite impressive too. My kids come home saying things in spanish, talking about space, math, you name it! They learn so much every day. Discovery Isle has been a blessing to our family and I am sure they would do the same for yours. read more

We recently moved to San Marcos area and this preschool seemed to be a perfect match for us. The staff was friendly and the curriculum was great. I didn't like the fact that it is a walk-through facility though-the doors were not locked during the day so anybody could come in easily. The playground was not that child-friendly also- too much cement and metal. Anyway, we loved it. Everything turned upside down one day when my child came home with bruise and blood in her nose and drops of blood on her shirt. Nobody told me a word that any accident happened to her when I picked her up. I have to mention that she' s just started learning English but she is fluent in her native language and can explain everything what happened. She told me that she was pushed from the slide by another kid, hit her nose against the metal part of the slide and fell down. Her nose bled and the teacher helped to clean the blood. Next day I asked teachers about the accident but, amazingly enough, no one knew anything about what happened! No one's seen, cleaned or heard anything! I understand, accidents happen-kids are kids. But how it is possible that a child comes home from school in blood and nobody knows anything about it? Is it a neglect or a lie? I am so disappointed and frustrated about this whole situation! I could not even imagine that I could face such a problem in a childcare! Of course, I took my child out of there. I could not trust anyone in this childcare anymore. Happily for us, we found a great preschool and my daughter really loves it . And I feel safe for her now. read more

We enrolled our eldest child in Discovery Isle - La Costa when he was 2 years old. He thrived under the care of his 2-year, 3-year and Pre-K teachers and had an especially wonderful experience with Mrs. Baylon, his kindergarten teacher. We chose private kindergarten because we were worried that he would be overwhelmed in a full, public school classroom. Our son grew and matured significantly under her instruction. He has always been a bright, yet unfocused child and benefited significantly from the extra attention he was able to get due to his small class size. Mrs. Baylon taught him to read, math skills, history, geography, basic cooking skills, art, music, and karate (included, taught at a nearby dojo) giving him a strong foundation for continued academic success. He is currently a bright 4th grader (GATE) with the highest AR total in his class, which we largely attribute to a love of reading that began in kindergarten. Beyond academic success, Mrs. Baylon exemplified and encouraged social behaviors that we value at home (respect, kindness, honesty) and helped him learn coping skills for situations that he found overwhelming. Our younger son started at DI-La Costa in the infant center at 4 months and we continued to enjoy a wonderful experience with his teachers and office staff. When he turned 5 last year, there was no question as to where he'd be attending kindergarten. While his personality is significantly different to that of our older son, he has also thrived under Mrs. Baylon's tutelage and care. Mrs. Baylon rocks! Our older son continues to attend the after-school program at DI-La Costa (at his request) where he first finishes his homework and then socializes with other kids in a small, safe group setting. We have have enjoyed our experience at Discovery Isle - La Costa and would strongly recommend anyone looking for a strong academic and social foundation for their child/children to consider the school, especially the kindergarten program. In our experience, the office staff is helpful and knowledgeable and the teachers are caring and readily give updates on our childrens'' day to day activities. Our teachers have always been willing to address any concerns we might have and have offered helpful advice when asked. As full-time working parents, we are very grateful to have a safe, nurturing place to send our boys when we can't be with them. read more

This place is great. My son has been here since he was 4.5 months old. The infant center is super. They respect individual families' ways of doing things and are friendly and helpful. I receive courtesy calls if the smallest thing happens to him (he scratched himself one day, bumped his head another). The girls are welcoming and affectionate with him. They do art projects and take the babies outside to get fresh air. My husband and I love the video camera too, so we can see him at work! read more
