I was recommended this hair salon by the Aveda Institute. I specifically made it clear that I wanted gray hair. The teacher at the institute referred me to one of their coworkers, Jason, who works at both the institute and this salon. I made an appointment with Jason, after talking with him about achieving gray hair. He said he graduated top of his class, has been doing hair for 2-3 and etc. Long story short and $200 in, I left with my hair toned blue/green with dimensions of purple. At this point I was frantic at the color of my hair, I quickly got up from the chair and left with my hair as is. I got a refund and they offered to fix my hair for free. Never again will I go to this salon that the Aveda Institute itself recommended. I went in for a facial with Sonya and she was fantastic! I'd never had a facial before and was worried the dermabrasion would hurt but it was absolutely fine she had a very light hand, and was very knowledgeable about all the products she was using. Awesome place! First, I stopped in to see if there would be a stylist to help "fix" a bad haircut from six months previous and refresh my color and highlights. The receptionist set me up that same afternoon with Amanda. When I sat down in the chair, we chatted about what could be done, and Amanda was under the impression (and I was booked) only for a haircut. She immediately had the afternoon receptionist call her appointment after me, to ask if that person would mind coming in about 45 min later. Amada was not stressed out about this apparent mishap at all. She said if that appointment could not adjust, she would work it out, because she didn't want me disappointed, in the fact that I thought I was going to have the works, and couldn't. Talk about service!!! While processing, there is a very nice couch with foot rests to relax on, and two other stylists, (David and I didn't catch the gals name), came over to chat with me, bring me magazines, and asked if I needed anything. Never have experienced the friendliness of other stylists like that in a salon before!! The cut and color came out really nice! There is no pressure to buy the products like other salons, and everyone was so accommodating and friendly, and talented, (I saw a few other clients heading out the door, finished, and they looked great!! My first time to the area and short I time I found this place and Marjorie! They were able to accommodate my request for a blow out and with little notice. So I am a little late on this review, but I went to Distinctive Salon for the first time about 3 weeks ago. I called to make an appt and they were able to work me in on the same day (Saturday). The receptionist was very friendly and she even called me later in the day to let me know that my stylist was running a little behind schedule and if a half hour later was okay with me. I thought that was very courteous because so many salons have you come in at your appt time and make you wait for who knows how long. My stylist was Trenadee and she was very nice and sweet. She listened to what I wanted (an asymmetrical lob) and asked general questions about length. When she started in on my hair, she was so quick and nimble with her shears that I didn't think she was doing any kind of work but she absolutely was. I'm VERY picky about my layers and she made my hair look fabulous. I've always had bad hair salon karma and the last salon I went to in the same area was super overpriced and that stylist fucked up a section of my layers, AND she didn't even respond to my text a few days later asking if I could come in to have her fix it. So fuck that noise. I really liked Trenadee and Distinctive Salon so needless to say I will be going back. read more

Sarah is a magician! I had overprocessed, dry and brittle hair. It was a mess. I had platinum blonde hair that was breaking off along the face frame and nape of the neck. My hair was so bad it felt like straw. In a desperate attempt to save my hair, I had my previous salon add a semipermanent 8g deposit. All that did was emphasize the damage. I sought the expertise of an expert in color corrections and discovered Distinctive Salon and Spa. I'm so glad I did. Sarah spent three hours turning my mess into a masterpiece. I happen to find this little jewel while at the farmers market, in desperate need of some color and a cut and recently loosing my stylist to SF, I popped in and ask if there were any availabilities. To my good fortune the owner, Ashley, had a cancellation and took me right in. You have to know I come from a family of coiffures, and very very particular with color. Ashley knocked my socks off. She weaved my hair three different colors in record time. So quickly in fact, I was nervous it would look rushed. To my delight it was absolutely beautiful. Perfectly variegated! The cut was beautiful as well. The salon was recently purchased by Ashley and she totally remodeled it. It is chic yet inviting and very clean! They also do nails and other services. read more

She recently bought this older barbershop style establishment and has, through a work of love, converted it into a cool modern salon in the Town and Country shopping plaza . I only give this place 5 stars because of Ízandro Márquez. He is a young and amazing stylist. Very professional and has a natural gift with hair. I promise if you book an appointment with him that you will not regret it. He is a perfectionist and he will do everything he can to make sure you are 100% satisfied before you leave. I do not live near the salon and have driven the distance just for her. When she was not available, Sarah did my root touch up and she was also excellent. I am very picky about my hair!!!! I have been going to see Ashley (the owner) at Distinctive Salon for over 5 years now and I have to say every single time I go in there it is nothing short of an amazing experience. Ashley saved my poor over processed hair (thanks to many years of going to the wrong stylist while in college) and has continued to help me keep my healthy hair even 5 years later. She also did my hair for my wedding and I still get compliments about my hair from that day. I've been going to this Salon for over 5 years. Leeann is amazing! I had some hair loss and thinning after a surgery and she helped me get my hair back into shape. I get compliments on my hair often. She is not cut-happy like other stylists and has helped me grow my hair past the middle of my back. I finally convinced my husband to see her and he's pretty happy as well. The WORST haircut I have EVER had in 55 years. I only wish I could figure out how to load my pic on this review. I wanted a trim and received a million layers to my thin fine hair. I started a new job a few days later and all I could do was cry. An older man gave me the imptression he would do a good job. I went back and Ashley "tried" to fix it, but only made it shorter. No one ever offered me my $50 back. It was obvious Ashley new it was butchered. She didn't even try to humor me. I'm sure there are good stylists there, but don't go as a walkin. One day, after raving about how beautiful and healthy my co-worker's hair looked, she referred me to her stylist, Ashley- the owner of the salon. Going to a new stylist is always nerve-wrecking. However, my first experience was anything but that. I came into the salon, utterly stressed and unhappy with the condition of my hair. I walked out of Distinctive Salon that day feeling like a whole new person. Ashley truly took the time so that we could determine both short and long term goals, profess what she thought would help reach them, and explain the treatments that would help replenish the damaged cuticles. I am amazed, especially, about how swift the transition from blonde-brunette- back to blonde was. Because of Ashley, I now exude complete confidence about my 'do. i LOVE this place. I was there this past weekend to get hair and makeup done for my best friend's wedding. Nicole and I were the co-maids of honor and she got her hair and makeup done as well. We were both VERY pleased-our hair and makeup looked incredible! Also, everything stayed from 10:30 am- 11:00 pm. Leslie did my hair and it looked even better than I was hoping it would look. I walked in and was serviced by Jason I believe his name was. Tall & has a country kind of accent. I told him I wanted to go lighter and add some depth to my color. Other salons I went to just didn't listen to me and I always left unhappy and with an empty wallet! Not here! He listened to what I wanted and when I was done and blown out, I was in love! I love my hair now, I've wanted to go lighter for so long but other stylists told me it wouldn't look good, Jason made it look amazing! The only thing I was disappointed with was the price... It's a bit over priced for my budget but considering its location, it's not too bad.. overall, it was worth it. The salon was clean and had a light, modern, airy feel to it. I've been looking for years for the right stylist but haven't really been satisfied with anyone I've met until today! Amanda is a new stylist at the salon but has been doing hair for years. She was fantastic and super friendly! My hair looks amazing and it was exactly what I wanted. I would highly recommend her to everyone! She listens to what you want and asks you at the end if there is anything you need her to change or fix. She is by far one of the best stylist I've met in years! The salon is also great. Beware. Owner Ashley and salon manager Margie are eager to sell lots of product and loathe to accept returns if you aren't 100 percent satisfied. Ashley's customer service approach to my Aveda returns was less than professional. After purchasing more than $1,000 in salon services, Aveda hair products, Aveda cosmetics, raffle tickets for a bicycle giveaway and memberships to the Distinctive Salon and Aveda rewards programs, I had to return some products ( primarily Aveda cosmetics) that did not work for me. I was happy to exchange the items for store credit but Ashley ultimately told me via her manager, Margie, that "another salon might be a better fit" for me. Based on my limited experience with Distinctive Salon, I wholeheartedly agree. Salons and stylists are a dime a dozen in Phoenix. If customer service is as important to you as it is to me, keep looking. read more

I am not longer a satisfied customer... I was a loyal customer which I regret ... In the beginning the service was good... I was happy....but after many months they lost their interest in giving me a good service..and a good price... I don't recommend this salon because even when you are loyal to them, they will not appreciate your business. The girl cheated. She said my color was applied well and done right and that was not true. When I got home and I looked inside my head ...the color was not done properly, I had 4 different shades, totally different from the outside. A mess.... I can't appreciate cheaters & bunglers.
