Unfortunately, this is a case of who spoke last. I called this company two days after the service to tell about the problem. The next contact was from John who told me to use WD40, which didn't work. I told the company that. The next day, I called a different locksmith because I needed to have access to that door that day. I can appreciate that this company has a warranty period, but I couldn't wait for that period of time. Great locksmith - highly recommended. John came out to fix the lock at my place. He couldn't find a problem on the first visit (no one was home when he came but he worked on the lock as arranged), and I called to explain more about the issue and he determined that the whole lock/handle had to be replaced. He came back a second time to do that, and rolled all the charges from the first visit forward to cover some of the costs of the second visit. His communication by phone was perfect - very sharp guy. I called in the afternoon, and unlike other places where you have to go through several phone calls, call centers, call backs, etc., at District Lock I talked to a person in Washington DC right off the bat, she gave me a straightforward price, and scheduled an arrival time that day. John arrived exactly on time (even a bit before I managed to get home from work). He was fast, professional and friendly, which helps when you've managed to lose your keys and you feel pretty stupid. Our front door lock of our condo building was broken and when we called we told them it was a security issue. They had someone there in 25 minutes. They over-patrol yelp reviews because the company is reliant on desperate people in need of a service but also know they price gauge. People in D.C. will pay the $$ so they can get away with it. But again, please spare yourself the 'its going-rate' 'we take pride in our customer service' spiel and try to accomplish the job on your own. After getting stuck in my entryway and having to have the fire department break me out, bending the deadbolt of the gate (all before 8 am yikes!), I called this lock shop to see if I could get someone to come and help me out. Seriously one of the best customer service experiences I've ever had. Needed a lock re-keyed and needed it done quickly before I was to head out of town. They answered promptly on a Saturday morning, the woman who took my call was friendly and helpful, and there was a locksmith at my house within the hour. District Lock, the locksmith service formerly associated with the long-defunct District Lock & Hardware Store on 8th Street, SE (Barracks Row), is still serving customers on Capitol Hill. Apparently, the owners of the locksmith service were different from those who owned the hardware store. I have used District Locksmith recently to service the Mul-T-Lock system on my house and they still provide the same outstanding, professional service. They're still the best locksmith's in town (in my humble opinion). read more
