I have never rented a car outside of the boroughs, and never will again. I get there, and its about 5 cars in a small lot, walk into the place, show my reservation ticket which states "You do not need to reconfirm your booking with the car rental agency or hotwire." The man begins, "Russ, we have a problem...." Basically, he had booked 8 people for 4 cars (I could see the list so he just showed it to me), he claimed that he could not get my phone number to, uhhh, confirm the CONFIRMED car...even though I checked with hotwire that they have it on file. So he proceeds to lie to my face, and say that he can't do anything for me, but that his buddy up the street at enterprise has one car left, I'm sure for a price that is considered more than rape. I gather that this is all happening because I found a good price and others had booked at a significantly higher rate. We argue slightly, I give him the finger and walk out as he's calling me condescending names. So here I am, back in Manhattan, without a car and unable to carry out my Thanksgiving plans because all this douchebag cares about is money. Fantastic, worst case scenario.

I called a month and a week in advance to make sure that they accepted debit cards and both times they reassured me that they did. When I got there though they completely disregarded that and were down right rude to me for not having a credit card to use. And then cancelled my reservation without settling the issue. Horrible staff and horrible customer service. Do not go here if you want to rent a car. You will be scammed one way or another without a doubt. We declined because we needed the space, not a smaller car with a higher price tag. Somehow, he thought that offering us something we didn't ask for--and couldn't use--was a solution. When I picked up the vehicle, I was told it had a full tank of gas, which was simply not true. I had to get gas immediately after leaving the location. Despite this, I was later charged an outrageous $7 per gallon for a "full tank" that I never received. That alone is unacceptable and feels misleading at best. On top of that, they attempted to charge me $300 from my deposit for a very minor amount of pet hair -- something that could have been resolved with a quick 2-minute vacuum. I fully understand maintaining cleanliness for the next customer, but this charge was excessive and never clearly communicated as part of their policy. This experience has made it clear that customers need to protect themselves -- take photos, document everything, and double-check the vehicle before leaving. Unfortunately, that shouldn't be necessary with a company you trust. Because of this, I will be taking my business to Hertz and National Car Rental going forward. Very disappointing experience. This is the worst Hertz location I've ever been to, and believe me that's saying something because…read moremy expectations for Hertz are pretty low. First of all, it's in a garage with no shelter, no tent, no indoor place for customers to stand and no heaters or even a canopy. Repeat, NO HEAT. The employees are basically working in a steel container and they didn't look warm either. The customers can't go inside the steel box because it's tiny, even if we were allowed to go inside. Just egregious corporate greed and disrespect of customers and employees is at work here. Today in 31F wind chill, about 5 people stood waiting for over an hour with the wind whipping through the garage. One lady didn't even have a coat. There was ONE employee to answer phones, deal with customers and he even had to vacuum out the cars himself. I ended up leaving after waiting in the cold for an hour and a half, after another employee and manager came in and allowed new customers to cut the line in front of us. You can tell Hertz does not respect us as customers or their employees. They are making bank, and are still outsourcing phone customer service to the Phillipines so they don't have to pay a decent wage. They can't manage to pay enough employees on site to take the load off ONE GUY. And I cannot stress this enough, the absolute skinflint miserly scroogeness of making an "office" out of a small shipping container and not making a way for customers to be protected from the weather.

They will allow you to show up for your rental reservation and tell you they don't have it available AFTER you arrive. The location is grossly mismanaged and the area manager, Mike Ruggiero, won't even pick up the phone for his employees when there's a problem. I arrived 15 minutes before my pickup time and no one came out to help several waiting customers for 15 minutes. I knocked on the door and this agent with a nasty attitude reluctantly came out to "help." She informed me they didn't have my vehicle available and she wasn't going to "deal with it" when I questioned her about not being informed prior to arriving. This is the third and final time I've had an issue with this location.

I understand this location is affordable for businesses last minute however, they need new vehicles. the west village location had better vans in the past but since they're closed, we have to settle. I wouldn't spend my personal or business expenses here. there's better options in Manhattan, even if I have to pay more. lastly, the front desk has the best costumer service besides the floor staff.
