I have been diving for over 30 years. I wanted to get my wife and son certified through PADI before our trip to Oahu but they needed to finish their last dives. The staff was knowledgeable and patient with them and they finished their certification. On our trip I wanted to dive a wreck and the staff and boat crew were excellent. I have used many dive charters in my dive history and this charter is among the best I have used. I highly recommend them for diving Oahu. I was only going to do one boat dive while I was in Oahu, but I am now considering doing more. read more

Another outstanding dive trip with dive Oahu. This trip went on the 2 tank shallow/reef dives in the late morning. As have experienced in the past great dive boat, great equipment, knowledgeable staff. Yesterday smooth water above and below which always helps a great day be better. One of the aspects which separates dive Oahu, is every dive they alway have plenty of staff/helpers who are very helpful in setup and underwater. Experienced and novice alike, service is wonderful, and Great Snacks on board. Captain Dan did a great job on site location. Lady Margaret, my nickname for her, was my guide. Wonderful lead, pace and length(s) of dive was perfect. Absolutely a great day. P.S. There is a coupon in the "This Week Oahu" free brochure at airport and around for free shirt or 15% off the dive. Went to rent tanks, when we arrived the lady was in the back and we waited for 30 minutes without any recognition from her. We could see on the cameras she was doing stuff with the tanks and we made it very obvious we were there, when she walked by she didn't even look at us like we weren't the only people in there. This company gets a ZERO. This company is terrible, I would rate them lower if I could. I asked them for a surf lesson and they told me, "I don't need one" they said, "just rent a board, you'll be fine." I was so upset, I told them I have no experience, I need a lesson and they still insisted, saying, "it's easy, you can figure it out, just rent a board it'll be fine" What the heck is going on? Why can't I get a surf lesson? Before I walked away the desk person admitted that they didn't have any surf instructors available. They told me I had to come back tomorrow. I ended up walking down the beach and ended up getting a lesson from Aloha Beach Services. Thank God for them! Also, Dive Oahu has the worst staff. The staff members are always on their phones or ipads, not paying attention to what's going on around them. WARNING: FOR YOUR SAFETY, DON'T RIDE IN THEIR CANOE! Dive Oahu had an accident today. Their canoe flipped over with people in it. This happened today, the video is on IG. Someone needs to close these people down. They can't give surf lessons and they can't give safe canoe rides? Thank you for confirming that you didn't have any instructors available, which was my original complaint. I was told that many people leave your desk on a daily basis to look for surfing lessons, and they do complain to the same extreme. Proof can be provided. Your "training to flip the canoe is a flat out lie and only makes you look worse" I have lived in Hawaii and have never seen or heard of anyone training to flip the canoe in the middle of the day, especially on a bustling beach, and you did this four times? Shouldn't that type of training be done in the early hours, when the beach is near empty? I beg to differ that no customers were on board, as a customer posted a shot of it from his go pro on Instagram. Video proof doesn't lie. (They didn't know they were going to flip.) I heard a lot about your company, and many locals are upset. It looks like every real review is claimed to be false by you, but people need to know the truth. Me and my husband are new to the island and one of the first things we wanted to do was become scuba certified and start spear fishing. We had heard nothing but great things about this company and the products/brands they have + the prices! Unfortunately, our experience shopping and excitement for starting this new hobby was tainted by the employee we worked with, Indie. She had no idea how to help us with equipment, she wasn't knowledgeable about the equipment needed for spear fishing, and overall was unprofessional in her demeanor and communication with me and my husband, more specially the fact that she would flirt with my husband while only pointing out the most expensive equipment. Clearly not in the helping business and not the friendly/professional environment I want to be associated with. read more

Two very good two tank dives. We were visiting Oahu to check out University of Hawaii for our daughter. She'll be enrolling as a transfer student in August 2017. Scheduled two days of shallow reef dives and weren't disappointed. Dive boat and crew were great - Captain's Randy and Matt along with our guide Jason. All did a terrific job. Saw lots of turtles (no sharks - bummer). Will dive with them again when we're back later this fall. Good outfit and recommend them highly. read more

Yet another great dive trip with Dive Oahu. We dive with Dive Oahu every time we visit the Island of Oahu and they never fail to please. They have a new dive boat this time around and it is one of the nicest day boats that we have been on in over 30 years of diving. We visited various sites around the Honolulu area, including the Navy Barge and Sea Tiger Wrecks. The staff at Dive Oahu are always professional, personable and safety-oriented. Worst experience in seven years of snorkeling. The majority of the crew was nice up until the point of providing instructions about the guidelines of snorkeling. For example in 7 years I have never heard of grabbing to a rope and having to follow the instructor to "his approved areas of snorkeling ". When asked about why this was not something explain prior to boarding, he said "that is how all snorkeling works". He then ropes the group of 9 people around the boat not even around the areas with fishes and continues to go in circles wasting the experience. Save yourself and do not go out with dive Oahu. I am going to request at least a partial refund as we saw only rocks and coral. Please ask before boarding about what the snorkeling trip entails to prevent this from repeating, especially if there is more than one person in your group. Remember do not snorkel with this company, anyone else is far more qualified than this team. read more

I'm incredibly disappointed with the ethics of this dive company. If you're looking for an environmentally conscious and safe group to dive with pick someone else. After talking to the owner he said this never happens but I am standing up and posting on social media because of a night dive I took where the dive master Anthony and his partner Kristen were poking and prodding an octopus in het den for 10To 15 minutes chipping away coral to get her out. When she finally did try to escape they grabbed her both at the same time and started rubbing her head and messing with her for about 10 to 15 more minutes. It was straight up harassment I felt like I had seen something get raped and have to dive was wasted because me and my associates couldn't explore anymore and it was freezing. When I got on board I mention something to Kristen asking if that was OK to do and she said that because they knew it wasn't going to hurt her it was fine to pick up the animals on a dive. This was not just picking up an animal it was direct abuse to an intelligent creature who could have even been protecting its babies. Even though the divers weren't injured it was obvious the octopus was doing everything in its power to defend itself and it still wasn't enough against humans. I'm incredibly disgusted that Anthony even though he's been driving since he was 16 didn't have the balls or the integrity to respect something that was not as strong as he was. If I could give this dive studio zero stars I would and when I spoke to the owner Brian directly, The only reason he was going to say anything to the crew was because he wasn't "in the business of giving away free dives". So yea , If you're trying to support diving that actually follows the main dive rule which is not to harass or do you any harm to creatures in the ocean, then fuck this dive company. Also I didn't want to post this but I really felt like it was the only way for anyone to know the truth because from the attitude of the crew it seemed like this has happens multiple time but because "nothing has ever been posted on social media" it's never happened. I've dove with Dive Oahu ten (10) in the past two (2) years and they just nail it every time. Randy has been the Captain and has an uncanny ability to find the clearest waters. Our dive leader was Peter and gave a very detailed briefing of how the dives would go and what to expect. Need I say they delivered and then some? Sharks, Turtles, Eels, Humus and much more. We stayed down as long as the Dive Oahu computers let us. The deep dive was a wreck teaming with life and the shallow dive introduced us to a whole new "being inside a fish bowl" experience. This is not a dive company that is safety conscious. The staff is hectic and semi-disorganized. They are late in picking-up divers for scheduled dives. The boat is not run in a timely fashion. The boat was not kept in an orderly fashion. The dive depths from the DM are terrible (they expect divers to go deeper on the 2nd dive after a 20 minute surface interval), they don't enforce the 3-5 minute safety stop, or 'step' the dive profile. If you are not planning your own profile AND watching your depth, you will get bent on the 2nd dive. While the equipment functioned for other divers, I was unable to locate current testing dates on their tanks on my dives. I am glad I brought all my equipment with me as I was uncomfortable in trusting their equipment with my life. The friendliness of the staff was so-so, but in no way makes-up for the lackadaisical attitude towards diving. This oversight is a serious breach of diver safety that I observed to be ignored on all eight dives I had with them--from morning, noon, and night, the staff did not appear to consider diver depths from prior dives on a two-tank dive on that very boat from DM's. I watched diver after diver complain of headaches, joint aches,and pain after the dives. This was recorded, with their names, contact info & signatures, and reported for the local authorities to formally address. I have been fortunate enough to dive all over the world since '99, and I have been with some scatterbrained disorganized outfits. I can not stress enough that Dive Oahu is the absolute worst that I have personally encountered. Never have I previously observed what appears to be the near complete abandonment of the very basics in scuba safety. For your sake, and the sake of those with you, if diving in a group or as a pair: DO NOT USE DIVE OAHU. Sure, feel free to utilize them and learn what not to do--ever. read more

Great crew and room to move about on a real dive boat! I moved to Oahu from Big Island last March, just as COVID was shutting everything down, so am pretty spoiled when it comes to diving and never thought there was much to see on Oahu. I just started diving here in Oahu last week and this crew is great!! The captain (Jerry? But don't rely on my boat brain) was safe, helpful and very friendly. My dive master Nick was fantastic! Very friendly and really looked like he was enjoying his job of taking care of his divers, which he did extremely well. My buddy and I are more experienced and it was nice not to have to be following a long line of beginners on the dive sites. Neither the boat nor the dive site felt crowded, unlike the cramped boat we were on last week with another company. Today the visibility wasn't the best, but we saw several large turtles and a few nice wrecks. The captain made sure our safety was more important than going to a specific dive site that was in an area that was too choppy. I still miss Kona diving but am planning to come back here again. Great wreck site bad company. I did a boat dive with this company and the dive master did not ask me any safety questions. I.e. "when was your last dive", "have you ever done a deep dive", "do you need a refresher", etc. When asked what I do for work their response was "oh I heard navy officers are all snobs". The four tanks my boyfriend were given were all below 1600 PSI before the dive even started. The female dive master on the boat was extremely rude and had no sense of aloha. Other than asking to take our temperature she did not say anything to us the entire dive. I understand this is a business and we are just customers but some type of hospitality would have been nice. The boat captain Jerry was super friendly and deserves 5 stars everyone else needs to work on their customer service and safety. Went out with Capt Randy and Pater and the team was incredible. My wife and I did a DSD (intro) dive with the company and loved every minute. The guys were on point and engaged, knew the right locations to see sea life, and kept the trip informative and engaging every step of the way. If you're on Oahu, this is the dive company to contract with. Wasted time and stolen money!!! Our trip was rebooked a few times, we had to wait on a boat in the sun 100 degrees outside for one hour to get notified that our trip is cancelled. Fine. We booked for another date, when we showed up at 6 am they made us sign a bunch of paperwork, I didn't understand the question correct so I accidentally replied "yes" to one of the questions, so they said I can't go on a boat, we explained that it was a mistake but still they wouldn't let us in. Ok, we left and asked for a refund. Additionally we paid for a photographer $150. They told us to call them at 10 am about the refund. The service varies by the day of the week and who is working. The new female running the shop is friendly and helpful. Today; however, some guy was in the shopping trying to fix a component which supports their ability to fill Enriched Air (he had so many parts out, several analyzers, and an alarm was beeping, so I wasn't able to make out what all he was working on). I had two cylinders to get filled with air. What he was working on didn't effect the compressor or their tank banks. He told me "I am trying to fill Nitrox today and won't be able to get to those until tomorrow at the earliest." He could have hooked up my cylinders and let the fill while he tried to fix his equipment to fill Nitrox instead of telling me to kiss off. I am kinda glad though, my last fill from them tasted kinda funny from this shop. This company consistently disappoints me. Most expensive dive charters and equipment sales of any Military affiliated shop (in the NEX, on Camp Smith, and on the Marine Corps Base) on the Island. The last time I used Dive Oahu was in 2007 and the experience was so bad that I still think about it 7 years later. My first Dive with them I ran low on air, I informed the Dive Master who just pointed upwards and swam off, when I surfaced I was half a km away from the boat and the captain had to come get me. No one was with me. I paid for two days worth of photos costing me approximately 75.00 they said they couldn't get them to burn on the disk and would mail them to me. I emailed them for 2 months with no response and never received the photos or any money. Absolutely terrible experience, I would never recommend diving with this company. read more

we were super excited to go see some sea turtles today. but bc of the weather there were no sea turtles to be found and barely any fish at all. after snorkeling for 15 minutes and seeing nothing, all the snorkelers were done and ready to go back. then bc we had to wait for the scuba divers, every single person on that boat felt sea sick. about 4 people actually did throw up. we asked multiple times when we would go back and they kept saying 20 more minutes, knowing everyone was getting sick. i get the weather was bad so we couldn't see any sea turtles) but we paid a hell a lot of money and the "professionals" should of known better and just cancelled or at least separate the scuba divers and snorkelers bc the scuba divers could see a bit more. if they knew the weather wasn't good, why put us through that, especially having to wait an hour + for all the scuba divers while getting so sick on the boat. btw no refund or coupon or anything, we paid the same amount as someone who would have a great time and see lots of sea turtles. This is my first review on Yelp and for good reason. My family, along with some friends from out of town, wanted to Scuba Dive, but we had never been before. Our friend is certified and experienced so he called around and we ended up going with Dive Oahu. I am SO glad we did! The staff was so friendly and very accommodating. Riley was our instructor, and I felt completely safe in his care. We had Captain Neil, who was engaging, fun, and had loads of information about all kinds of sea life. I cannot think of a more perfect first dive. We were trained about safety and then tested, both in water and on paper. We had a guide right with is, usually two or more, the entire time. I was feeling anxious about my first dive (not to mention possibly meeting a shark) and almost skipped this adventure. I am THRILLED I took the chance, and would highly recommend the crew that we boated with today! Thanks David, Jason, Riley, and Captain Neil for giving us an experience of a lifetime!! I got my PADI license 2 years ago, but haven't had the chance to go again after my certification. Being in Hawaii, I decided that I had to check it out. Dive Oahu offers a 2 tank dive for about $120, all equipment included. Not too bad, all things considered (i.e. being in Hawaii). The sites vary depending on dive-day conditions and the 2-tank dives include 1 shallow (up to 40 ft) and 1 deep (up to 100 ft) dive. My sites were the San Pedro shipwreck and some reef. The wreck was much better, with more to see. Supposedly, there's a shark that lives in the wreck, but I didn't see him. If you've ever gone scuba diving in Austrailia or SE Asia, don't get your hopes up as this won't compare. However, this being my first wreck dive coupled with the fact that I hadn't done it in a while, it was worth it. Will I go again? Probably not. I'll save my money and wait till the next time i hit up SE Asia. read more

Awesome scuba diving experience!! This was my husband's first time scuba diving and my first time in over 10 years. The staff was friendly and helpful in easing our nerves and making sure we were safe and prepared. We did the shallow reef dive and saw lots of fish, several sea turtles, and even a small reef shark! Dive Oahu - Hickam location I just finished the OWD course. I was a bit nervous the first day but luckily we had amazing instructors. They never rushed us and always worked with us at our pace to make sure we understood and were able to perform all tasks properly. Scott Rasmussen and Jack Miller are extremely knowledgeable and experienced divers. Very very thankful to have had them as instructors! Here is my shining review of Dive Oahu! First off, look at the dates of the reviews below and keep that into consideration. I have never been scuba diving before. A complete newbie. I have bought the excursion on their website at an extremely reasonable price. They called multiple times to confirm and make sure the schedule was good. Alyssa, a younger instructor picked me up at my hotel on time, and brought me back to the shop. That is where I met Vinnie, the comical yet accommodating leader of the pack. He gave us a short tutorial via flash cards, was very direct on the main rule of diving.... BREATH! And off we went. Once we hit the boat we met Tammy, who I coined the skipper. She drove the boat and helped get us situated. Randy, the captain, was an older man. Clearly ex military and nice as could be. So helpful and great sense of humor. Very positive in our learning. They geared us up, showed us what did what and then threw us in the water. Some people freaked, it's not for everyone. Vinnie then took everyone down about twenty feet to show us clearing our ears, breathing and purging. Very helpful. Off we went! Down to the reef. I rented a camera (that I highly recommend), and Randy came down and helped get some pictures of me diving. Once our air was low, we went back to grab the second tank. The wonderful Tammy then gave us some snacks and water, and in a flash we were back in. Alyssa followed me this time and made sure my air didn't get too low. Once I was in the "Danger Zone" she took me back up. Then a nice relaxing ride back to shore, high fiving and excitement was all over. Alyssa then took me back to my hotel, and gave me the memory card for the pictures so I could have instand memories. These guys and gals were awesome. So helpful, positive and fun! I would go back to them in a heartbeat. I highly recommend for anyone staying in Waikiki. While the scenery isn't the best, it is still a hell of an experience. read more

In Hawaii, scuba diving certification is not required to go scuba diving. This is actually, in my humble opinion, a dangerous law. Swimming alone in Hawaii can result in two types of fatal accidents - drowning, and sharks. Luckily, this safety risk is lessened when diving with an experienced crew. The Good: Dive Oahu has friendly staff and a well-equipped boat; there were plenty of snacks and drinks. Anger Management, the boat's name, is emergency-ready, with three fire extinguishers, an AED Defibrillator, a lifeline, life jackets, and other Coast Guard boat safety features. My main complaints are: 1) safety training, 2) quality of scuba diving instruction on the boat, 3) scuba diving instruction in the water, 4) amount of time with the instructor, 5) ratio of instructors to new scuba divers I was a state swimmer back in the day; however, swimming in the ocean is a completely different dynamic. Scuba diving instruction should begin in a placid pool. (Yes, this review will be heavily opinionated, but with good reason). Scuba diving is actually incredibly complex. For the average new diver, scuba diving simply cannot be achieved in one session. I feel strongly that, despite Hawaiian laws, Dive Oahu should implement a requirement for Scuba Diver Instruction to take place over at least three to five sessions. Online training, a session in a pool, and a session in the ocean should be a bare-minimum requirement. My takeaway from Dive Oahu is that this is *not* a safety-conscious company. Questions I asked: "At what PSI should I notify you [the Instructor], that I am running out of Oxygen?" Answer: Do not let the PSI fall below 300. (Looking at the gauge, the PSI was at approximately 3300 PSI). "How fast does the typical diver run out of oxygen?" Answer: [Paraphrasing here]: That depends on your oxygen consumption rate. Some divers will make it through a tank of O2 in 30 minutes, and others will make it through a tank of O2 in an hour and a half. "What is meant by, 'surfacing too quickly?' Can you give me that in meters / second?" Answer: About a foot to a meter per second or thereabouts. It was explained to us how to get water out of the mask; however, some things, in theory, can be easier than in practice. For example, my mask, which had been used by other divers, as had our regulators, filled up with saltwater. That blend, between the Baby shampoo (for defogging your mask), and saltwater, was noxious going up my nostrils. With the waves taking me up and down, a 60-pound weight behind me, a Darth-Vader noise of my own breathing, and an Instructor tipping me backward to tether me to a floating rope, I admit, I nearly went into a panic. The primal need to breathe is strong, especially when you feel that you need to rush to be processed and cleared for the second dive. All of this could have been mitigated if Dive Oahu limited the number of new divers/instructor, and capped the number onboard. Of my group of four, only one of us attempted scuba diving. My friend nearly passed out twice underwater, likely from oxygen poisoning, scrapped her leg near a coral reef, which could have led to bleeding and a visit by predators. Passing out underwater is imaginably dangerous. We did not learn buddy breathing; rather, there would be one instructor to four of us. Imagine if all four of us had been able to scuba dive and two of us had issues underwater? Would one instructor be enough? Or, if four of us had issues? What issues could we have? Running out of oxygen, oxygen poisoning, equalizing, surfacing too quickly, rupturing eardrums... Umm... Drowning. Tipping the crew was mentioned twice, in the friendliest of ways; to help nudge us into tipping, it was mentioned that this was how the crew paid its rent. All understandable. However, even this detracted from the experience and almost made it seem like the $159 / person to scuba dive for 4 h out on the ocean, wasn't enough. Did I mention that 25% of our group even scuba dived? I believe it is the responsibility of Dive Oahu to figure this out, not its crew - please pay your people; I feel that I have already paid you. You have quality issues I feel that you need to address. In retrospect, I feel that we were lucky that we didn't have a true emergency. There is a lot going on in the ocean, from fish that live under the surface that can emerge with poisonous spines and render its divers paralyzed. While the reef was not as impressive as in the photos, I was thankful to see yellow fish with vertical black stripes and the cerebellum-like corals below while snorkeling. All-in-all not bad, considering the very stupid decision to try to learn how to scuba dive in one session. Whomp-whomp. I would recommend, if you aren't already certified to scuba dive, try snorkeling. While there are those few folks who can scuba dive on their first attempt, don't count on it. Time in Hawaii is precious; having a safe time is critical, too. read more

This place is very small. They are all very intelligent and very knowledgable about diving. My wife and I took the open water divers course from here. It took one week, including the weekend, but it was totally worth it. We had a lot of fun and our instructors we super awesome. The store itself carries everything you would need to go scuba diving. It also carries a selection for skin diving, including spears and spearguns. They are always friendly and willing to help you out. read more

Good dive sites. Many turtles, baby sharks and octopus. Amazing instructors and dive masters. We were on the boat named "anger management". Every one was great. Only Sam needs to take some refresher course in anger management. He was nasty like an angry pitbull with everyone. Dude, if you don't like your job or people whom are your paying clients, you owe it to others and all your clients to quit. I would have given it 5 star but Sammy's pissy attitude made it a 4 star if not a three star. Nasty man. Nice dive. MOK. read more

I went on 2 dive trips with dive Oahu in one day. I went on the shipwreck and pipeline dives in the early morning, then I went on the discovery dive with my buddy in the afternoon because he was not certified. Both dives were amazing! Lindsay was my guide on the morning dives to the shipwreck and the pipeline reef. She was very knowledgeable and patient. And both dives we saw sharks, manta rays and sea turtles! I wish I could remember the name of my dive guide on the second dive tour, but he was the one who wears the pink fins, and he did an amazing job taking me around the dive site while my buddy did skills! We found turtles and octopus. The crew of the anger management did an amazing job and I highly recommend dive Oahu for anyone coming to the area! read more

Overall, an enjoyable day of diving two of Oahu's popular dive sites. I was told to be at the boat by 7:00AM and when I arrived a bit early, there was already someone to check me in. As the rest of the people showed up, so did the boat Captain (Tammy) and the other divemaster. Everyone was helpful and friendly, they loaded all the tanks, and helped me load my personal equipment. The first dive was the Sea Tiger and everything went smoothly. The divemaster asked if we needed any assistance, gave us a quick brief, explained our time limits, and reminded everyone of our safety stop depth and time. Since I usually do a deepstop, I explained that to my new dive partner, conducted our dive, and did our ascent as planned. When we surfaced, the Captain was there to help us with our gear and the crew swapped out our tanks. Our next site was Horse Shoe Reef and after an ample surface interval we did our second dive. Our divemaster guided us around the reef and pointed out interesting sea life. We were met with the same routine upon surfacing and the rest of the day went fine. The boat was a little a little tight for space where we set up our gear and where we held our tanks but there was ample room up front and under the shade. Snacks on the boat were nothing special but I didn't go on the this ride for the food. Friendly crew and lots of help. I'll be going back for another trip, hope the crew goes to different sites. read more
