This place is a delight. It is nestled in the remote hills of eastern Washtenaw County where it meets Western Wayne County. It is worth the trek from downtown suburbia and you might enjoy the ride. Upon arrival you will discover a large spacious room decorated in a scandanavian minimalist style. Uncluttered and welcoming. Drinks are kind of normal but expensive--watch out for traps like $45 for a small pour of Highland Park 18. Come on guys--cut the costs and increase the pour!! The food was great. Creative and delicious. We started with beet and caesar salads which are huge! Then mains including the vegetarian bowl, butternut squash gnocci, the halibut, and the antelope! This is one of my preferred spots for brunch not only because I can pick up breakfast pastries next door but also because the menu is so different, so appetizing. Let me clarify. Instead of the typical eggs, bacon, and hash browns, which I love, or the stack of pancakes, which I also love, the menu included: - French Toast with Saskatoon berries, made from zucchini bread - Croque Madam - Open-faced crepe with beautiful mushrooms and summer squash - Duck confit with egg over hash - Egg prepared Katsu-style, with BLT I compared it to a previous menu I saved onto my phone and approved of the evolution of this menu. We dropped in on a sunny afternoon. It was hotter than expected so despite being under an umbrella, I baked. We should have moved indoors, a beautiful and open space framed with wood beams and large windows. As we chatted on the patio, we noticed several guests enjoying their meal (potentially from the attached, The Boro) on the grounds. It was such a lovely idea. My friend ordered the mushroom crepe and yogurt with pecans and kiwi while I had the Katsu BELT. The crepe looked incredible. I love mushrooms and squash and had to restrain myself from ordering one, as well. I've had the yogurt before and appreciated the various textures: creamy yogurt, crunchy nuts and oats, and juicy, sweet fruit. The Katsu egg sandwich was... interesting. Imagine scrambled eggs, formed into a patty, and then breaded like a pork chop. This was served on a brioche bun with bacon, lettuce, and tomato. I thought the egg dominated the sandwich - I really did not notice the bacon or tomato. For dessert, they were out of most items so I settled for the Rocky Road cookie. I'm typically not a fan of Rocky Road anything. However, the cookie was sheer perfection. Crunchy cookie, toasted, melted marshmallows, and rich chocolatey flavor. So, so good. Not only do I intend to return to try the other items on the brunch menu, but I would also like to return for dinner. The dinner menu is equally exquisite: lamb, scallops... and Parker House rolls. It's all about food! That's what keeps me coming back. I keep hoping the service becomes more consistent especially after hearing my friends share how great celebrations have been there. Knowing how much I love the food at Dixboro and the hope of a great birthday celebration for my best friend, I decided to give Dixboro another try. I let them know in advance it was my best friend's milestone birthday. Upon arriving, I let the hostess and server know as well. There were tables around us with anniversary and birthday celebration cards, but nothing on our table. Our server was kind, but not attentive. I got the wrong wine and she didn't remember what my friend ordered. We let her know it was my friend's birthday, but still no acknowledgment. I was disappointed that the celebration was not like what my friends shared with me or what I was seeing at other tables. For lunch, I ordered the mushroom pizza. On our first visit to Ann Arbor from Seattle, we wanted to try a locally sourced meal and the Dixboro Project stood out. Due to a delayed flight arrival we arrived a bit late to our reservation, but the hostess warmly welcomed us and managed to seat us immediately on a crowded weekend evening. Our server, Mandy, was amazing and treated us with complementary champagne toasts, introduced us to the area with helpful suggestions and guided us through the creative menu choices. The cocktails were nicely prepared and refreshing. The woodfired mushroom pizza was so flavorful and halfshell oysters easily matched the quality we get in the NorthWest. We sampled a variety of farm-to-table entrees including the wagyu burger, fjord trout, gnocchi and shrimp spaghetti and left room for dessert. The strawberry rhubarb baked Alaska and cherry lime parfait concluded a perfect evening. We look forward to a return visit! read more

This has been one of our favorite special occasion spots or a place to pop in for a dessert over the past year (2023). They have made changes recently (Summer 2024) with a new head chef who has gotten pretty experimental in their presentation and dishes. The ambience remains similar with the exception of the staff. While very hospitable and friendly, you wouldn't expect them to be based on appearance. I don't know if it was just the evening we were there or what but the mute attire, art-gallery like strolling around while monitoring the dining room made it feel stiff in there. Of course this attention to detail is needed and expected at the price point but it was just odd. I can't say I am as much of a fan as it was but understand that their seasonal offerings may change my opinion going forward. Smashed pea dip and the squash blossoms were a wonderful starter. Pizza looked great. The chicken and dumplings were a table favorite. Fish dish was nice. The miss was the herbal/flowery summer pasta dish. The dessert we tried was a strawberry balsamic concoction. The presentation of it was super cool but the vinegar pour ruined the balance of sweet to tanginess. There was a fruited center of the cake that needed better distribution as well, it would have really helped the overall profile had it been. We would have much preferred the chocolate tort/marshmallow torched top dessert they had previously. Now THAT was once amazing. read more

This place is a very cute rustic barn - like restaurant. I came here for brunch on the weekend. The service is great, and the food and drinks are high quality! (I admittedly went twice in one weekend ... with 2 different parties, so this review is for a combination of different meals) Mocha - very very good. You can tell they use high quality chocolate in their mochas too! Eggs Benedict - I'm a sucker for eggs Benedict. Theirs come with Berkshire ham, which was delicious! Would highly recommend! Biscuits and gravy - an elevated version of biscuits and gravy. Definitely super filling if you're hungry! They offer it with eggs as well, but honestly I didn't need it, and was super full without it! Mushroom sandwich - very very flavorful. Pro tip: can also add an egg on the side or in the sandwich, even though it doesn't say so on the menu. The egg adds a wonderful balance and creaminess to the sandwich! This review is for carryout pastries. (We haven't eaten in the restaurant in a while; our foodie friends in Ann Arbor have said that the food has gone downhill.) We stopped towards the end of the day and the display case was almost completely full, which made me a little wary. We got 4 things, and only one of them was a hit. The Cardamom Pistachio Bun was a lovely sweet roll with very little of the 2 namesake items. The Broccoli Cheddar Quiche had an excellent crust, but the filling was way too salty. It went in the trash. The Lemon Blackberry Cupcake was tasty but small and dry. The best thing was the Croissant Bread Pudding. Very good and enough to feed 4-6. The only problem was the sloppiness with how it was handled: the tray was covered with sticky gunk. Not the condition in which it should be given to a customer! For the prices they charge -- $30 for these 4 items -- everything should be flawless and filings generous. Overall, a miss. read more

We had a reservation for Friday at 5PM, and that ended up being a great time to arrive. It was still fairly quiet as we were seated, just before the Friday night dinner rush. The hostess was friendly and our waiter was very welcoming and knowledgeable. The food was amazing, as usual, and he even brought us a complementary treat with our dessert. The coffee from the on site cafe was a delicious finish to the meal. We love the Dixboro Project. I'll be stopping by Sunday morning for a pastry as those are next level amazing. My only con is that I don't love sitting in the middle of the restaurant at a 4 top when it's just the two of us out on date night, but otherwise 5/5. read more

The atmosphere and service were very good but the meal was disappointing. Both my husband and I felt like our meals and our drinks were missing something. His dish was downright bad. He didn't finish it, which is really saying something. It was my birthday and we had been saving this restaurant for a special occasion so it was extra disappointing. We won't be back. What an awesome place - from history to ambiance to food to service! Loved it all! Dixboro Project is cool right off the bat - set in a barn that was originally built in 1880! Once you walk in it is airy and open with lots of windows, high ceilings. We were quickly greeted by our waitress and throughout the whole dinner felt taken care of. Manager stopped by to talk as well. Now on to the main part - the food. I have to say that every dish we tried was spectacular. Grilled octapus appetizer is probably the best I've had! Duck pizza was delicious - 6 slices and easily big enough for 2 or even 3. Sea bass entree was also perfect. As far as dessert goes - marscarpone cheesecake is ridiculous! I couldn't stop eating!! My husband scheduled a reservation for 11 of us for my 40th birthday. We unfortunately had to cancel our plans due to a change of flight from our family members and could no longer make the reservation. We called the day before to cancel (and the policy states that you can cancel up to 1 day before, does NOT say 24 hours) and the woman who answered the phone said "sure no problem" and said NOTHING about us incurring more than a $200 charge for cancelling last minute. If we knew that we would have incurred such a charge we would have come to the reservation with just half of our party (not the full group). Now they won't refund us the amount they charged even though they KNOW that the woman on the phone did the wrong thing and was not clear about our cancellation fee. INSANE. Never going there again and will warn all of our friends about this. read more

My intention was to go to The Boro, but I didn't see any signage that directed me to where it was so I visited Dixboro. The only difference in menu selection was that I wanted the focaccia from The Boro. The dining area was almost full on a Wednesday night. I loved the ambiance. The tables were well spaced out. Buzzing conversations that weren't too loud. A lovely, patient staff who was very personable and knowledgeable of the menu. I ordered the pepperoni pizza and Parker rolls. The rolls were OK, but I was more obsessed with the butter that came with them. The combination of bread + butter + salt is heavenly to me. I love the cup pepperoni on the pizza and the pizza itself was good. The pizza came with spicy chili oil that they actually provide in small bottles if you wish to take some to go. The oil in the bottle tasted slightly different than what the restaurant provided for dining in. I believe Jordan was my server and he was amazing. He didn't hover while I was trying to read my book and he took his time explaining items from the menu. I've talked to a few locals and they've heard great things about this restaurant, but haven't had the opportunity to stop by. If you have time, eat here. We were in town helping our daughter move to a new apartment. What better time to try this place than during the summer when it is less crazy. This has been on our list for a while. I was able to make a late Saturday brunch reservation. When you make the online reservation, they ask if you are celebrating anything and it just so happens we were celebrating a birthday. Upon check in, I received a birthday greeting which is a nice touch. This place is beautiful! We were seated by the new barn where there was late morning/early afternoon wedding reception. We started with the fries for the appetizer which were excellent. My daughter had the malted pancake and she said it was the best pancake ever! The food seems good (my coworkers go there off and on) but it is above my price range. Their mushroom pizza that one of the physicians buys for us occasionally is lights out. It's such a good place that would benefit from some more affordable options (increase the range). I'm just fussy because I'm a foodie and can make most of the items myself so I elect to only get items when it's fiscally responsible for me to do so. What a beautiful establishment! There's lots of available parking and a valet as well. I would recommend getting a reservation. We arrived around dinner time on a Thursday evening and was told we would need to wait about 30-40 minutes to get seated or we could go to the bar where they had full service as well. We went to the bar since we were really hungry. We heard that they were known for their pizzas so we got the Broccolini & Sausage Pizza. This was a good amount to split between 2 ppl. They also give you chili oil if you wanted to add extra spice. Honestly, it didn't taste that spicy but it did make the pizza taste more savory which I enjoyed. The staff were attentive and kind. I was complimentary before. I was not effusive enough. Dixboro Project is a must if you are in the area. We have sat outside both times. On this occasion, we had the morel pizza, the fried chicken sandwich, and French fries (an accompaniment to the sandwich). All were excellent. They were outstanding. That is no exaggeration. The morel pizza was a white pizza, i.e., no red sauce, and I told the table next to us, whom we heard considering it, it was a great choice. Morels are seasonal. If you like mushrooms at all, they are what to order if you ever see them list on the menu. I was tempted by the BLT, with pork belly, especially since the server warned us the oven might be down. They got it fired up though. The morels were more subtle than I expected, which is fine, and the pizza was served with wooden stand at once sturdy in thickness and dainty in design. My wife, a less lenient judge than I am, praised the fried chicken sandwich. The French fries we split, and they were better than McDonald's, my benchmark, on the one hand crispy and on the other hand creamy, thick, handcut, hardy, and served with homemade mayonnaise. The bonus were the GF snacks. We bought a box. They have a Dixb-Oreo, which is not only gluten free but also diary free. They look great, and we can't wait to share them with family. The word is spreading. That other table, they also mentioned to the server they had heard about Dixboro Project. I was told by a classmate from University of Michigan I should try it. That is great, positive word of mouth helping a budding business grow as it deserves to. I won't mention the name of the place, but driving out there from downtown Ann Arbor, we passed an institution, someplace I have raved about for fine dining but more for graduations and wedding proposals and taking your grandparents, and my wife remarked she didn't need to go there again. I like the farm theme, but it felt commercial. My cocktail felt rushed as if the staff were overwhelmed by management who didn't hire enough people for the workload. The espresso arrived late as my dessert, and it was tepid without any crema. I could taste rancid oil as if the machine had not been cleaned properly. I could get better espresso at a Starbucks. Ordered steak tartar for appetizer and was plenty for us 4. Here's the thing. Because there was not enough baguettes (small thin little toast) to finish the $25 steak tartar appetizer, I asked for a few more baguettes. We were brought 2 and charged $4, $2 per baguette.
