I was extremely impressed with the care of the employees and how delicious my food was. I'm in a season where I have to omit certain major allergens from my diet for safety reasons (allergens that are not easy to substitute or to eat out in general), and real seafood was able to go above and beyond to accommodate these allergies. We were able to call a few days prior so that they can make special side dishes that were Allergen friendly. We were celebrating our 13th anniversary and though I couldn't eat a lot of the special food When celebrating, everything still felt very special and the things that I could eat were absolutely phenomenal. I was very impressed. I would say this is a high 4, with one star down because even after talking to the manager and reminding the weight staff, the kitchen still brought me out two types of dairy with my appetizer, which led me to be a little paranoid the rest of the meal. After looking through the ingredient list which were provided promptly and graciously my trust was restored, but I always get a little bit nervous when it comes to allergies when I see that the staff in Kitchen and front staff are not communicating well. It was still a lovely meal, and I appreciate them going above and beyond to accommodate my allergens. I got the crabcake, surf and turf, a special request drink from the bar that was nonalcoholic, and a sorbet with fruit. I'm still dreaming about the crabcake and surf and turf. It was so good and cooked perfectly. I can't wait to try to re-create the crabcake at home. I was astounded at how delicious it was. I really enjoyed the fresh mango and strawberry in the salad that came out with a crabcake. Even though the crabcake sauce and the salad dressing both had dairy and were served with my appetizer, it was yummy without those sauces. It would've been nice if someone offered me an alternate sauce or had thought to tell me that they contain my allergy and I thought we were on the same page. I got a cherry limeade drink from the bar and it was very delicious. I don't normally get drinks but it was kind of fun to get something fruity and fun for a celebration. The bread was delicious and didn't contain the allergens so I was able to enjoy it without butter. I am not normally a sorbet girl and I probably wouldn't have normally ordered dessert here but since we were a celebrating, I wanted to try some thing sweet. I couldn't believe how good the sorbet was. It was a little rich, but it was so tasty. I think it would've been really excellent paired with a very light not overly sweet vanilla bean cake. It was so fruity and rich that it needed something to balance it out. I'm not complaining. It was excellent in a very nice end to the meal. Overall, 4.5 stars all of the stuff was lovely and it was nicely decorated for Christmas. Thank you so much for the lovely anniversary dinner! read more

1-13-2026 Met our son here for my husband's 66th bday and while we appreciated the free entree we found the food about average, esp the steak which my husband said was a bit tough and overcooked. I walked in and it was pretty quiet. I sat at the bar and was tended to immediately. This was my second time coming here and it did not disappoint. The first time I came i had the fish tacos which were amazing but I wanted to try something different. I ordered the She Crab Soup which was kind of like a corn chowder with crab and it was pretty good. I would love for it to be a little thicker but that's my preference. I'm a bit surprised that I've never visited this restaurant. I love seafood and tend to favor it when eating out because I'm not great at preparing it at home (my swordfish is always overcooked - sigh). Downtown Ann Arbor was crowded on a recent weekend; Real Seafood offered sanctuary both from the heat and the noise of those crowds. While it was early during service, the restaurant was quickly filling up. I was glad I got in before the rush so I would not have to sit too close to other diners. A server had just pulled out pan after pan of freshly baked bread, lightly dusted with poppy seeds from the compact oven. I was looking forward to my meal! I started with a pot of steamed mussels in a white wine garlic sauce. The mussels were large, as was the portion size. While the bread would have been perfect to sop up the sauce, usually how I tend to enjoy my mussels, it was also great just with the butter. A side salad is available for an upcharge. I had Caesar's salad topped with anchovies. Anchovies! In addition to the mussels, I had a classic, the lobster roll. I appreciated the grilled roll that held an okay amount of lobster meat in a light mayo. The fries were lightly battered and crispy, good but not perfect. Even though I had a light breakfast and no lunch, the mussels, salad, and bread filled me up. Consequently, half of the lobster roll went home with me. This is true fine dining! Very clean professional restaurant. Service was excellent, down to the visit from the GM. Each dish served was flavorful and cooked to perfection! I have enjoyed going to Real Seafood Company for well over a decade. Consistently yummy seafood. It might not be the best value (pretty expensive and portions aren't necessarily large), but we like the food, the ambiance, the service. It's an approachably nice place to get a good meal. I also like that you can kind of create different experiences for yourselves. Feeling more casual? A steamed mussels bucket with a side of fries is a great meal for $18. Or the seafood alfredo is good bang for your buck too. Feeling a little more upscale? Their twin lobster tails are consistent and decently sized. Lots of fresh and specialty fish options. Great event! Only note would be that the all you can eat oysters is misleading. It was not. It was all you can be SERVED and eat within 30 mins. The time limit was not well communicated. (if at all) The rest of the menu was crap. We were there for the oysters anyway. Service for this event was excellent. The Beer rep was fun and engaging. The other diners were fine but some annoying. I was grateful we didn't have to sit together or head up to a buffet-style. If this will be the same set up again, we won't attend, but if it truly is unlimited "all-you-can-eat" as advertised, then it would be worth it. read more

We stopped in on a Sunday evening and cozied up to the bar. Most diners opted for outdoor seating. Downtown Ann Arbor has streets blocked off for diners- some venues even had music. It was a relaxed energy. Back to the food. We started with a dozen oysters - we couldn't decide on a favorite. They flew them in from MA and they were super fresh. The basket of bread came out piping hot. We resisted the urge to fill up on bread. The she crab soup was flavorful and it had a nice bite to it. The paella was delicious. Oddly enough we've never had paella with so little actual rice. It was so good- I would've liked a little more BUT the seafood truly was the star of the dish- lobster, mussels, clams and shrimp were all very fresh. This dish had a little bite to it too. We visited the Ann Arbor location on our way to an event... This place (and EVERY Real Seafood Co) is simply awesome. The Service, the friendliness of the Staff, and of course, THE FOOD!!!! We tried to eat the entire menu but fell woefully short. We started with Broiled Oysters, a Clam & Mussels Steam Pot, She-crab soup and the complimentary soft, warm bread. All of these things were fantastic. Our main entrees were Paella Valenciana (must) and the Lake Erie Perch Meunière with a Crab Leg accompaniment - stupid good my friends... Our drinks were also well done - the Blood Orange Mule, the Peach Mojito and the Pineapple Ginger Daquiri. My wife loved the Daquiri the most, but all were great. Hostess was friendly and attentive and Scout provided excellent recommendations and was bubbly throughout the experience. Genuinely enthusiastic about the menu. I have to say Real Seafood is consistent. I feel like I know the food will be fresh and tasty. The service was good and the ambience is cozy. We went with the beef tenderloin with mashed potatoes and asparagus, crab cakes with veggie medley (roasted butternut squash and carrots with a maple glaze), and mashed potatoes. I'm sad they got rid of the blue plate special. I thought that was a good way to try a variety of seafood dishes at once. There are other options to choose from though so that won't keep me from visiting again and working my way down the menu. If you're in the area, I definitely recommend trying it out. read more

What started as a birthday of coming to A2 for a discounted dinner, has turned into a tradition of still coming to real seafood even with no seafood discount post covid. The food is just delicious. Pricey, yes. But for good seafood well worth it. Our server this time was Zachary, and he was attentive and delightful. The crown jewel? Always the miso glazed Chilean sea bass. Have you ever paid for an expensive meal and thought -- there must be a whole stick of butter on this plate of sauteed fish. Oversauced. I now have to remember their style and, next time, tell them how to cook my food. Drowning in butter is one way to compensate for average fish. Kind of ruined my entree. Next time I have to get the help of the waiter to find a more natural lower-fat way to enjoy their menu. This was a fat fest. I went here as a suggestion for a Birthday outing for my friend. It had been a long time since I had been here. I made reservations and planned the outing. There is a parking structure around the corner so walking is not to bad. I had dropped my friend off as it was chilly. She went in and asked about the reservations. When I arrived I was told that they could not find my reservation. That was odd because I had just received a text alert an hour before. However, we were seated. The place is nice and comfy. Our waiter Zac quickly served us and suggested a few appetizers and entrees. I ordered the crab cake and garden salad as my appetizer. I also ordered the Chilean Bass for my main entree. Matt was great. Very attentive and friendly. When I told him that it was my friends birthday he even offered to sing and in Italian to boot! I was like go for it Zac! It was awesome and appreciated. The food was great! The crab was lump crab and was one of the best. The fruit salad was also great. The dressing and the combination of walnuts and fruit with salad really appealed to me. The Chilean bass had an Asian sauce and the bass was tender and tasty. I would like to call it AWESOME. The taste was great. We topped it off with Key lime pie. It was good but in comparison I have had better. Overall this place was great the last time I came here and was just as good. I was not disappointed. My husband had Walleye which he has never had not being from Michigan. The shrimp tostadas and clam chowder soup were both absolutely delicious although the glazed miso Chilean sea bass was where things fell a little flat, it was a bit bland on its own and I expected better execution for the price (over $40). . The lobster roll however was very good and my husband almost demolished it before he remembered to let me get a bite LOL. We were looking for a good seafood spot and ended up at Real Seafood. It's a nice space with plenty of seating, and our server Katie was great. We were a party of five so we ended up in the raised seating in the back which was nice and a bit separate from the noise near the entrance. We ordered escargot, crab cake and oysters for our starters. All of them tastes great, but I the crab cake was literally a single cake so that was a surprise. The oysters were very fresh, but I'd say the escargot was the best bite. A few of us had the clam chowder and it was excellent, really hearty. For our mains the table had fish tacos (got rave reviews) , miso sea bass (also tasty), fish and chips (bad. The fish tasted like it was fried too long and the chips are French fries not wedges), house and kale salad (really good!) and the Brussels sprouts (would not recommend). This place was on my Mom's "Want to Go" list for so long. I just called her to tell her to take it off. "Paella is dry" Oh I wish I listened to that advice. Furthermore, the Alfredo was flavorless. The only good things were the Calamari, which you literally cannot screw up on, and the server, who was cool. The ambiance is misleading. At the front, you are greeted by a glass display of the "fresh" seafood that the restaurant offers. We ordered 3 dishes: Paella, Alfredo, and Calamari. Minutes later, I was greeted by a burnt and completely dry Paella containing the least tender lobster I have ever had the (mis)fortune of consuming. The total was $140 with tip. Had a fantastic date night here. To start I had the Detroit Sour which was delicious! Similar to a whiskey sour, it was sweet but tart. We got the fried calamari as an appetizer, which came with a delicious saffron aioli. But my fav part of the meal was the Miso glazed Chilean Sea Bass. It was fresh, light, and buttery! It just melted in my mouth, I was in heaven. My husband had the Tuna Shanghai, which he loved. I tried a bite and it was soo good. Always have a good time here! Servers are friendly! Food is great! We came here for my birthday. We arrived for an earlier reservation just so we can help with the social distancing. We started with a drink and an appetizer. I don't remember with this appetizer was called but it was new to the menu and was shrimp on these little crispy tortilla chips. I really enjoyed and Hope they stay on the menu. As always, the bread served is excellent! I ordered a bouillabaisse - which has a selection of shrimp, scallops, mussels and crab. The broth was savory and slightly spicy (I don't care for a lot of spice so this was perfect for me). It was served with a crunchy bread that was great for dipping into the broth. Our party of 5 had a delightful dinner here and it was perfect for our consensus cuisine selection of seafood.  I also knew of this franchise from a past visit to their Toledo location and similar to that location, they have a pretty big and vibrant space here.  We had a 4 star outing but I go with a 5 star rating here thanks to manager Eddie's handling of our bill, to be explained below. Eric was our wonderful and attentive young server.  We started with delicious warm bread and appetizers of escargot and their sweet and spicy calamari.  The first appetizer was typical and the latter was delicious with a nice sweet and sour flavor.  Our five entrees were: - yellowfin tuna (mine) - Chilean sea bass, Shanghai style and grilled - Chilean sea bass, Shanghai style and steamed - blackened swordfish - jambalaya I also enjoyed a very nice and refreshing 16 oz draft serving of Michigan-based Short Brewing's Huma Lupa Licious IPA (7.7% ABV) for $6.95. The tuna and swordfish were excellent.  The Chilean sea bass fillets themselves were also excellent, but in sort of typical "American" style, there was too much (for an Asian palate anyway) salty soy sauce poured upon the rice and spinach.  The jambalaya was hearty but also salty and could have used more white rice. Overall though and to be clear, everything was enjoyable and delightful, until we got a few surprises on the bill.  With no warning, every item except the beer was priced higher than the menus we all looked at.  I know rapid price increases are happening in the industry, but usually servers will alert you, or there's a footnote on the menu, or current prices are handmarked in, or a QR scan to a current e-menu can be used.  Additionally, we were charged an extra $2.95 for Shanghai style on each of the two sea basses, when the menu to most people would read that the recommended Shanghai style sea bass was $38.95.  We brought these points up to our server Eric, who was empathetic, and he said he would speak to his manager.  After a bit of a puzzling wait (but it was busy), Eddie the manager appeared and was professional and apologetic, and handed us a significantly reduced bill - with the appetizers back at the paper menu prices, and with the prices of all the entrees reduced even below the menu price.  AND he handed me a $50 Mainstream Ventures Restaurant Group gift card, to boot!  Wow!  Customer care appreciated!  I whole-heartedly thanked Eddie and said I'd give him a shout-out in this review.  Honestly, I was prepared to be happy with a $5.90 bill reduction, and thought they over-compensated in a very nice way, but I certainly wasn't going to complain.  My brother-in-law thought they simply did the right thing, ha, whadda hard-nose!  I hope Management just takes the suggestion to alert customers about our callouts and preclude similar future surprises to others.  Anyway, I'm a real fan of Real Seafood, even more so than before, and Thank You! read more

Came here for lunch on boyfriend's birthday bro take advantage of the discount. We dined near the open wall/windows and it was quite pleasant. I enjoyed a sparkling rosé they had on special. I had the baked stuffed flounder with a nice rice pilaf. It was a good portion for lunch and had a good amount of crab and shrimp. Boyfriend enjoyed some blackened perch -- a good way to order their fish if you like Cajun flavors. Would definitely return again for a nice birthday lunch! Craving something a little different one weekend night, a friend and I decided to check out Real Seafood. Located on Main St, there's ample outdoor seating that you can take advantage of if the weather is nice. On our visit the outdoor seating was packed, so we were seated inside. A server quickly came over and got us waters and took our drink orders. About 10-15 minutes passed and I leaned over to my friend and said "I think he forgot about us!" At that moment, a female server arrived at our table and said "Hi, my name is so-and-so and I'll be taking care of you all this evening!" I laughed and we explained the situation, with me relating what I had just said about the previous server. She frowned and left, saying she needed to figure out what was going on. Our original server swung back by with our drinks just a moment later, and took our food orders. Bread arrived shortly after, followed by coleslaw. The bread was hot and delicious, cole slaw was good, mostly because I was hungry. It seems the kitchen was slow on our visit; our server came back by and said sorry it was taking so long, there had been a "rush" and he brought us more bread. About 10 minutes later our food arrived. I got gulf shrimp and they were alright. I felt like they were a little over-cooked and rubbery and honestly thought to myself at one point that I do a better job of cooking shrimp at home. I had gotten toasted potatoes on the side, which I didn't finish. All in all, after a promising first impression, Real Seafood didn't hit it out of the park for me. I may revisit for appetizers while sitting outside, but I definitely won't be rushing back to do so. read more
