My girlfriend and I went here for lunch and decided to get the "seafood platter" together. It was 3 shrimp, one catfish filet and one crab cake. The two sides were also tiny, maybe in a cup smaller than the palm of my hand. The food was tasty but we expected a seafood platter to be a bit bigger. It was our first time there. Once greeted, we started with the Buffalo Chicken Dip, which was quit tasty. I had to try the Famous Fried Chicken (Dark) with Collards and Red Beans and Rice. The Fried Chicken was hot and delicious! The sides were way under seasoned, leaving me to doctor them with condiments. My wife really enjoyed the Chicken Fried Steak and Gravy with Mac n cheese and Fried Okra, which added to the comfort food enjoyment. My only wish would be, replacing the loud metal chair's on the concrete floors, which take away from the Blues Cafe Vibe. The dipping sauce was great. Was a bit of a dill flavored ranch. For the main course, I went with Aunt Sara's fried chicken dinner with collard greens and mashed potatoes and gravy. The collards were next level and the potatoes did not disappoint. The fried chicken was crispy and juicy. Delicious. There wasn't as much spice as I'd have liked, but it scratched the itch. We just stumbled upon this place looking for brunch before our flight. And I'm so glad we did. They were having jazz brunch on Sunday. Great music. And the food was some of the best fried chicken I've ever had. I even took it to go on the plane and brought the leftovers back to Texas for my lunch the next day. I had the 2 piece with 2 sides. Ordered a Hurricane drink and it was not to be expected. A little watered down or missing something nothing like a Hurricane I've had before. I subbed my chicken for wings instead of tenders, best decision. Chicken was 'heavenly' seasoned to perfection. Belgium waffle was nothing to rave about. Now the Mac and cheese was smooth and cheesy perfect combination. Red beans and rice were ok needed more meat, but I still ordered one to go. The live Jazz music made the moment even more intimate. I ordered the fried chicken (2 breasts) and chose mac n cheese and collared greens. OMG, the best fried chicken I've ever had!!! Collared greens were very tasty and the corn bread was perfect. My bestie had the pot roast w/mashed potatoes and the consistency was more like a stew but he enjoyed it. Ended our meal with the Blueberry bread pudding a la mode. OMG, so flippin' good! A tad sweet but totally worth it! Oh, I almost forgot about our drinks! My bestie ordered a bloody Mary and it came with a chicken wing, big green olives and a fried chicken wing lol! There was live music and though loud we were still able to talk. We started with the buffalo chicken dip with the blue cheese on the side. We enjoyed all of our entrees. This downtown Pensacola soul food restaurant is nice and on the high end of most soul food restaurants. They have their own small parking lot next to the restaurant along with another one across the street. There is an outside covered patio for seating along with a spacious inside too, of course. The interior has a lot of character and was playing good blues music during my visit for lunch. During most evenings, they have live music along with a jazz brunch on Sundays. This restaurant combines a New Orleans bluesy vibe with down home southern cooking. I ordered Aunt Sara's southern fried chicken (3 pcs) with mashed potatoes and brown gravy along with green beans for $16.50. The food arrived quickly within 10 minutes and came with a cornbread roll. The chicken was the old fashioned southern fried cooked chicken that I love and isn't easy to find anymore due to the Nashville hot chicken craze. This bird was hot and juicy and satisfying. The mashed taters and brown gravy were homemade and tasted like it and the green beans were soft and flavorfully cooked with some bacon. It was a very good tasting meal and Grant, the waiter, did a professional job. 5 Sisters Blues Cafe is an excellent choice for a hearty meal in a nice and fun atmosphere. Come eat here! And they also offer happy hour daily from 3 to 6. I came home for a bit this past December to spend some time with my friends and family. I had to pick a couple places to have dinner at, and Five Sisters was one of my choices. I had come here about 15 years prior, and I remember it was really good. So I wanted to relive that and get some great Southern food, since there's not great Southern in the peninsula where I live now. I had heard that Five Sisters had recently got sold to a restaurant corporation that's currently swooping through Pensacola. So I was skeptical. I dove in head first and tried like four things. Five, if you count a bite of someone's oxtail. First of all, they got some brownie points for being able to accommodate me and my party of 12 on a busy weekend night. You just gotta call them and say you're ok with sitting outside, and you can probably get any sized party seated. That's nice. Can't say that about everywhere nowadays. So anyway, we ordered some apps. Fried Green Tomatoes (Sliced, green tomatoes with a crispy, crunchy coating, served with jalapeño ranch dressing) and Wings (Ten wings flash fried and tossed with choice of sauce: buffalo, BBQ or lemon pepper). The tomatoes were banging. Thinly sliced tomatoes with a delicate, well-seasoned breading, perfectly crispy. The ranch dressing wasn't particularly jalapeno-y, but it was nice. And the wings, they were interesting. I can't remember what flavor I got, because the pic I have shows them all on top of a mustard-y sauce and draped with jalapenos. Maybe it was a special that night. They were nice, though. A good crispy, a good amount of meat. I like putting things on my wing bites, like jalapenos, too. Good app. As for the entrees, I ordered the Chicken & Waffles (Fried chicken rests on top of a crisp waffle, and served with syrup). This was pretty good. I got my waffle first and my chicken came out about 10 minutes later. That's bizarre. But the chicken was hot and fresh. Pretty typical in terms of breading and seasoning. Waffle was fine. And the syrup came right out of the bottle, no maple here. I also got to try the Smokin' Blues Brisket Sandwich (Mesquite-rubbed, fourteen hour smoked brisket with sautéed onions, mushrooms and Swiss cheese, served on Texas toast). This was also pretty good. Overall, this place was good. Everything was hot and good and not of a bad quality. Authentic Southern food it is not anymore, but it was a nice place for a nice meal. read more

The discomfort this created was impossible to ignore. Sadly, the food did not justify enduring the atmosphere. The macaroni and cheese was neither fresh nor hot, looking as if it had sat out for some time. Everything was heavy-handed with salt, dulling any complexity of flavor. Most disturbing of all, I bit into a piece of fried chicken only to find hair baked into the crust. Unsanitary incidents can happen in any kitchen, but what followed was unacceptable: neither server nor management offered an apology. Instead, I was asked if I'd like "something else" or even dessert, as though the issue were trivial. Restaurants are not just about food--they are about care, respect, and trust. At the very least, diners deserve to be acknowledged when something goes wrong. Unfortunately, 5 Sisters fell short in ways that went far deeper than seasoning or preparation. For those who care about cultural integrity, customer care, or simply basic food safety, I cannot recommend spending your time or dollars here. Especially if you're a person of color--you, I, we deserve better. Response to the "owner": With all due respect ma'am, I did the research while I was at the restaurant and no "minority owner" shows up or is even pictured anywhere when the business googled or business searched (only a chef or former chef). What a lovely Saturday morning brunch we had as our first brunch experience as Pensacola residents. It was a dark and stormy night... Actually it was a cold and rainy morning. So we sat on the porch and... ate like pigs. Very happy pigs. I had gumbo and a shrimp po boy. And a sazerac. No, two sazeracs. Okay, three sazeracs. Not thrilling, but nice. The shrimp po boy was spot-on. Soft, spongy bread with crispy, bitty breading and puffy, sweet, and perfectly cooked shrimp. What did goddess have? Dunno.
