Dust especially in between the logs of the wall at the head of the bed....and cob webs. Drain in bathroom clogged, and after he snaked it he did not clean up. No tv in your cabin just at the lodge, good luck. No locks on the doors. Had to lock everything in the car every day. Everything is Ala carte, and they will charge you for everything. Other lodges have tvs in the cabin, have heated pools, have bar/restaurant and people do gather and it was a blast .

Chad and crew are all great, booking for our tent and buying ice road passes in person in the winter are very smooth processes. They have a clean hot shower available year round (only one since their cabins have bathrooms), and washer/dryer. The food at the bar is fantastic, we always get the jalapeño raspberry wings and a split basket of deep fried cauliflower and green beans. Safety is their priority so I know my truck won't be taking a swim in the winter on the ice road. In the summer their dock hands are incredibly helpful and make a day go fishing so much easier (don't forget to tip the kids, they are great workers!). Last, but absolutely not least, they have the best rolled ice cream I've ever had!! The flavors range from chocolatey goodness to gooey peanut butter, but also cover s'mores and fruit flavors as well. Overall I'd 10/10 recommend The Pines for winter and summer fishing!

This is a beautiful resort on Cass Lake with big gorgeous lake views and sunsets. There's a big dock for fishing or to park your boat (free slip with cabin rental) and a fish cleaning house complete with bait and ice. They have a full bar with pizza and snacks with indoor and outdoor seating. There's also an outdoor pool and free use of the kayaks and paddle boats. The grounds are well maintained and the staff is so friendly and helpful. We rented one of the A frame lake front cabins and thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We played cards on the deck and had bonfires at our own fire pit. They are following COVID requirements so we felt safe as well.

This review is mainly about The Lost 40. An ancient hardwood forest that was somehow missed or…read moreforgotten during the era of the lumber barons in the late 19th century. One theory is the winters were so severe the lumberjacks gave up and deserted the project. This saves a valuable piece of land for us to enjoy whether you are a tree hugger or not. The short trail is signed explaining the types of trees and foliage in the area. I believe in Minnesota less than 2% of forested land remains as hardwoods which covered the state up to the prairie. The area of the Chippewa has camping and not much in amenities as it's not a state park and is recommended for the serious rugged camper.

The campsite was not too far from the water, so we just pulled our kayaks on the beach overnight and we dragged our reclining lawn chairs out to the beach too. The paddling was fantastic -- especially as the water had waves (I love a little tiny bit of adventure to paddling around a lake and this one had some nice waves). There were a lot of people here but we really did feel secluded. I also love camping in national forests because its okay to burn any wood that is down on the ground, so we didn't need to buy firewood, I just collected a bunch of downed limbs and got to work snapping them down to burnable size. I would recommend it!

That child is now a junior in college. Bill and Gail (the owners) are like family. In fact, when Bill's Dad, Bob passed away a few years ago, I felt the loss. When my son graduated from high school, he immediately joined the service as he was significantly impacted by 9/11. Our week ended at the end of the 1st week of August, but he was not to report to the military until December. I've never seen him so happy (and my wife so sad) as when Bill call a day after we came home asking if it would be OK if Matt were to return to work at Bowen's for the remainder of the season. I'm sure our kids will continue to go to Bowen's long after I'm dead and gone. It's just that kind of place. Your own little bit of heaven on earth.

From the fully-stocked, well-maintained cabins to the great fishing, there is something for every member of the family to enjoy. They sponsor daily activities for the kids, a clean beach with numerous watercrafts (kayaks, paddle boards, floating raft, etc), a dock attendant, and a beautiful lodge stocked with bait, fishing, food and clothing. We enjoyed nightly campfires and the sunsets and starry night sky views were amazing. This is the perfect place to enjoy family time and make memories and friendships that will last a lifetime.
