The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. They have everything from cheap party booze to high end bourbon, tequila, and whiskey. They have some extraordinarily high prices on high end items but they're willing to wheel and deal if you have cash at your disposal. Some items you'll be hard pressed to find elsewhere and others you'll be hard pressed to find anywhere other than online. Don't expect to be able to purchase many allocated items as those primarily go to their regulars. They have beer, candy, cigars, liquor, snacks, wine, and more. It's always a pit stop for me on my way home from visiting my dad at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery. I always enjoy looking around and I always end up with another bottle for my vast bar collection.

It's easily possible to drive right by & never know what's here. & yet, the few times I've been here, generally later on a Friday or Saturday night, it's obvious that Ruhstaller Farm is the busiest place for many miles around in any direction. It's somewhat puzzling to me. Add in the idyllic bucolic vibes, & this place feels is a bit surreal to me. There's something about the frolicking farm ambiance here that reminds me of the Aliki Farms skit from the 1st episode Portlandia.* So how do I know about Ruhstaller Farm? A friend I homebrewed with for years lives in Dixon. Being beer nerds enough to brew it ourselves, we'd stumbled across Ruhstaller beers a long time ago. That early stuff was rough. The beers pouring now at Ruhstaller Farm are definitely a drastic improvement. The bar staff has always been friendly. & really, this is a nice place to relax & enjoy a beer. But that's it. The versatile and styled ambience is perfect for a casual date, after work hangout spot, or an elevated wine tasting. Nothing pretentious here though, just lots of heart shown in the thoughtful decor, local art displays, and versatile seating - you can choose to saddle up to the bar, sit at a small table or high top with a group, or lounge in a conversation area of moveable velvet chairs for casual laughs with friends. The drinks are fun and imaginative. I sampled both the cowboy margarita that came with a cute hat decoration, and an Aperol spritz. Many of the guests raved about the mocktail options, such as their rendition of the Shirley Temple. For their size, they have a generous and well curated retail selection of wines, plus a cooler with craft beers and other beverages you can enjoy there or take home. For food they have a solid options of savory items that punch above typical bar food, such as the Croque Monsieur - that I helped myself to seconds of! - escargot, and bone marrow. The owner operator was an amazing host and her team did an awesome job quickly serving our group, who all seemed to descend on the place at once! Their chocolate/wine pairings complemented beautifully together and left us savoring each individual flavor. Afterwards we were visited by Jenny, a winemaker who noticed our cups were empty and offered us more wine to taste. Overall, a very pleasant and romantic experience. Would love to visit again in better weather (and when the grapes are in season)!

I'm guessing wine tastings are mainly what the vineyard offers, but it would've been nice to have the choice explained first. This is where my 2/5 stars comes in. They only had one person serving about 12 tables. My party was only a group of 2, but there were other tables with groups as large as 9 people. It literally took 25 minutes to receive my second pour, and the only reason we got it was because I had to remind the staff. I think having at least two people pouring wine would make the experience much smoother. Upon arrival, they also have a small parking area for non-reserved parking. Luckily, we were able to find a close spot. As for the restroom, personally I'm not a fan of unisex bathrooms, and they also did not have seat covers available. Overall, the staff was friendly, but the service and organization could definitely be improved. Apart from all this, I have visited multiple wineries in Livermore, which is closer to the Bay Area, and their wine bottles are much cheaper. Their wine tasting options are also more affordable. This is just my personal experience and opinion overall I don't think I would consider coming back.
