Ruhstaller feels like stepping into a little enchanted escape. There's truly something for everyone! From the moment you arrive, you're surrounded by the most beautiful setting. They have gardens of native plants as you enter the brewery with orchards surrounding the parking lot, hops growing everywhere (finally got to see one in real life), and the brewery is huge while having designed spaces for dogs, kids, first dates, and couches in the orchard for introverts like me! Wanted to hang out somewhere outdoors. I found this place. When driving up, my husband and I were not sure if it was open because the gate was closed, but it was open. There's a lot of parking. It wasn't busy in the early afternoon on a weekday. The ambiance is Rustic. Plenty of ducks and chicken wandering around. Some are more intrusive than others. Haha. I enjoyed looking at the peach trees, artichoke plant, and all the different variety of flowers. They have a fountain/water structure that's pretty. Theres a food truck that sells smashburgers and fries. At the bar they sell kombucha, beer, soda and vanilla soft serve in a waffle cone. The service was fine. This is such an awesome place to enjoy some drinks/BYO food or I think they have a pop up tent with food as well? I love how many kid friendly things there are here- a creek like area for kids to splash around, a huge sandbox, a bunch of orchards to walk through, sheep to look at, obstacle course-like "natural" material play areas. It's pretty loud in the main area and upstairs but there's a beautiful view of the sunset on the second floor:) The bartenders were kind! The virgin &hard kombuchas were tasty. An eclectic hang out space, sustainable farm and beer garden. The main structure is an old hops drying facility upgraded to a multi floored, semi outdoor event space with many sitting areas. Also outdoor seating areas consisting of picnic tables and high top tables. Kids have free run of the adjacent orchards, farm machinery and a water feature. The places sell local beers and ciders on tap. Food provided by a food truck or two. The farm also allows you to bring your own food. Though near the 80, Ruhstaller Farm is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. There's no conspicuous signage. It's easily possible to drive right by & never know what's here. & yet, the few times I've been here, generally later on a Friday or Saturday night, it's obvious that Ruhstaller Farm is the busiest place for many miles around in any direction. There's something about the frolicking farm ambiance here that reminds me of the Aliki Farms skit from the 1st episode Portlandia.* So how do I know about Ruhstaller Farm? Well ok, loved it is a vast stretch for us Midwest guys coming from this barnyard surrounding us since childhood! But in California? This has to be one wild zoo for families and the straw styles needing somewhere to trot their cowboy boots. The beers hit well. Cool place! It's a brewery but also a farm with free-roaming chickens that you can feed and a play area with a waterway for kids to enjoy. As another Yelper mentioned, if you can't stand dust and dirt, might not be the place for you. Don't forget to take your allergy medication. They did have a food truck selling corn dogs when we went back in April 2025. Would definitely stop by again when I'm in the area. read more

Family friendly outdoor brewery and venue space with a stationary food court, fire pits, locations, and areas. It was my first time here and I've heard about this place, located off the freeway within the roads of Dixon is this farm, there's plenty of parking, tight within trees, with chickens, ducks, and dogs invited. We were attending a birthday which they reserved about a week before and no charge to reservations. There were tons of parties and gatherings. We had an upstairs area. You're allowed to bring in your own food and tables but there's also a stationary food truck-- The Hot Dogger from Davis and there was a pizza pop up present too, they all had a variety of items. There is 1 bar and they have their own drafts-- wine, stouts, IPAs, kombucha, etc. I got their Ocre kombucha (cinnamon, turmeric, orange) and it can be mixed with a beer to get a cider. They ran out of hot chocolate, which was nice for the cold weather. They had a fridge of non alcoholic sparkling waters and some of their beers for purchase. They also had $3 ice cream soft serve but it was too runny today. Multiple gender neutral restroom stalls and hot water to wash your hands. They have sole reserved bonfire areas and a main big one, shoutout to the worker for maintaining the fires. When it dos get cold out, the fires are warm but be prepared to smell like bbq smoke. It has all gone crazy. In a good way though. Very large footprint of a location just off of Sievers Road now, their parking lot is a decent size and when full, can extend out in to the fields. The Hotdogger (from Davis) has what looks to be a fairly permanent spot but this time we showed up with food in tow. Be forewarned: ALL of those pics with asphalt? WRONG LOCATION. New place is back out in a field. So the service aspect was pretty hands-off. You buss your own cups and order on your own at the counter. From there, you take your cup or cups of goodness and sit at a table, on a couch or wherever. Ambiance was BUSY last night with most of the place filled, some on the roof of the place catching the sunset, and some on the couches. A number of chickens running around as well as dogs thinking about catching said chickens. Nothing too "artisan" as you feel outdoors even if you're inside. This time, they had a wooden walkway to enter as it was a dirt path before. On each side of the entrance walkway are gardens and there was a water feature right when you got inside. Looked fun, but we were there to meet another couple. Luckily we'd both brought food with us but you could get some Hotdogger if you wanted. They had a few parties going on while we were there and they had plenty of room for more. Couple birthday parties (a 29 year old...thinking it wasn't a 92 year old's day) and a baby shower. It's no longer located anywhere paved so bring your shoes at least and maybe shoes when cold and definitely boots when it's wet out. read more

Hidden from the main road, this place is a beautiful scenic spot with green trees and ice cold beer. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. There's a lot of space and a lot of seating. I strongly suggest making a reservation for a nice table in the shade. Kids are playing having a great time. Dogs are friendly and happy to be there. We came on a Saturday at noon and stayed 4 hours! There was no live music when we came but they had a stage nearby. They have mist throughout the seating area because it's so hot. We really enjoyed our time here. Wish we stayed until sunset. The ambiance was warm and pleasant near the orchard. If you get closer to the bar the music is bumping and people are dancing having fun singing. The vibe is a backyard barbecue feel. This place was not for me. I attended a birthday party a couple weeks ago and went in with absolutely no expectations. Pros: plenty of parking, great drink selections, cheap ice cream, bathrooms surprising clean (see below) Cons: unsanitary with kids running around like crazy. This is more of a management issue, but parents let their kids run wild here, including in the duck pond/water feature despite signs expressly saying "livestock only". Kids are throwing logs and running into fecal water and taking it with them to every surface they touch. Management does nothing. Dogs are allowed, but be advised that chickens and ducks do wander freely, and I saw one pet owner have to physically restrain their dog from attacking. If you have a reactionary dog or one with any prey drive, perhaps leave them at home. The chickens walk on tables and the rafters, and I didn't see anyone cleaning off surfaces before eating. Sofas sit outside where they become nesting grounds for rodents and insects. Rain-soaked hay bales were rotting and swarming with flies. Walnut shells and animal feces litter the ground or are swept into massive piles just off main walkways--please keep an eye on your kids and what they are playing with! The view from the balcony was nice. Once the firepit got lit and the kids calmed down, it wasnt too bad. I don't want to go back. read more

It's a cool chill spot that has a unique soul. The country relaxed vibe is not manufactured or trying too hard. It's simple, fun and welcoming. Love that it's family friendly and all of the kids appeared to be having a great time as adults relaxed enjoying the atmosphere. Beers were great. June 7, 2025 - Dixon, CA Live music every Friday and Saturday, and dog friendly. We met up with some friends to listen to the band "Solorio" and have a few drinks. The place is huge, and it was packed. There were many grad parties happening, lots of kids, ducks and chickens roaming around, and lots of people having a really good time. In addition to beer, they also serve wine. I tried the chardonnay and the rose. Both were fine. They also had a couple of food trucks, and I noticed that a lot of people brought their own food and nonalcoholic drinks. There are many places to sit (picnic tables, old sofas, hay bales, tree stumps), but if you want to sit near the stage for the music, you might want to bring your own chair. I noticed that many tables and some sofas were reserved, which is great that they allow reservations....but there was a "reserved" sofa in front of the stage and a full table with seating for many, and those seats were empty all night. Maybe staff could remove the reserved signs on seats when people don't show up to claim their reservation. Overall, it's a great place--wild, with lots of room for kids to run around. They build a bonfire at night, which is a nice touch. read more

Needing to write this review before I forget too many of the details of the highly unique experience of visiting Ruhstaller Farm. Dear Hubby and I were joining family members in Davis / Sacramento about a month ago for our niece's university graduation. She knew about Ruhstaller Farm and picked it as the first night's gathering spot for everyone. Great choice! We were able to get there before sunset, which was one of the visual highlights not only of that evening, but also the entire weekend. There's something magical about being out in nature, but a slightly tamed version for the Farm's public spaces. It felt a little bit like going to camp - there were structures there that served their purposes, but the rest of the property was very wild around the edges. I was mainly holding down our picnic table spot which others in the party went out to hunt and gather. Dear Hubby went to get beverages and seek food options. He reported that the line for beer was long but moved very, very quickly. He was surprised how fast. I didn't have beer. Now I forget what I had instead. See, a month going by dims the memory. Food-wise, I do recall the chicken hot dog which was an offering from the food truck of the night. It was delicious. It was hand-crafted and very flavorful, not off a production line like you get at the grocery store. Meanwhile, in addition to the Gorgeous sunset (!!!), I was also taking in the entirety of the developed property. The hop kiln (used for drying hops) set the tone for the rustic architecture. Close to the main building a most eclectic collection of casual furniture is offered for seating. Further out away from the structure are random picnic tables. Some have benches, and some just rely on hay bales for a place to sit. A large fire pit sits not far from a small pond, and a large stage area where live musicians perform. It's all super-casual, family-friendly, and also beloved by various avian creatures like chickens and ducks. Wildflowers also abound in various nooks and crannies of the working farm where hops are the primary crop. After returning home I read up on various articles about the significance of the Farm in re-establishing the growth of hops in the Sacramento Delta area. Prior to Prohibition in the 20th Century, Sacramento was the largest region growing hops in the U.S. After Prohibition, the farming shifted to the Pacific Northwest for this key ingredient for beer-making. JE and team are making a dent in staging a comeback. It's a fascinating story. Our family group enjoyed our time at this place out of time that seems like inhabiting a story book about the good-old-days on the farm. Go! read more

Love coming here with family! Such a kid friendly space where adults can also enjoy themselves. My favorite part is the live music! Lots of dancing & delicious food! Spicy mango is my fav so far but can't skip on the fries! The portion is shareable, enough for 3! Service here is incredibly funny. Do expect a bit of a line at some times. I do notice that people reserve tables, and I mean TABLES and seats here so be aware of that as well but there are still plenty of seats. Just keep walking through and explore the place! I was in the area and found this place. The parking is pretty small for the size but we found parking. This place is extremely unique like nothing I've ever been to. The walk in has a ton of flowers absolutely beautiful. Then the place is nice and open a ton of seating. A lot of old furniture but absolutely cool. There's an area where kids play and run around. There was two food options. There was a hot dog truck that was very good and a pizza oven stand. There's a lot of dirt here so it's not a dress up kind of place. This place is oddly very relaxing. This place is awesome. It was totally different from what I expected. It's a brewery with basic, but delicious, beer food options. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The beer is amazing and the food is simple and good. The thing that was really cool and unexpected was the vibe. It's kind of like an indoor outdoor place. We were there on a nice day in early November and it was perfect weather. There's a ton of indoor/outdoor spaces and furniture and it's a perfect place for families or the after baseball with the team thing. It's a brewery and a working farm where they grow their own hops. Came by after work on a weekday and there were a few people crowded around heat lamps. A huge location with a chill vibe. Lots of parking, and you enter past a bunch of farm animals. There are chickens walking past you as you explore the area. Indoors, there's the bar with the beers on tap listed on the wall. We ordered a flight, and they were all pretty good. There's also a food truck outside where you can order food. It's a bit pricey, but it pairs well with the atmosphere. We spent most of our time indoors as all the other heat lamps were taken outside. There's a bunch to explore, with a kids area, bonfire, mini pond, etc. A great place to mingle, with staff attentive and tending to both us and the furnace we ended up sitting around. Ruhstaller Farm is amazing. I feel like they took all of American nostalgia and bottled it into a rustic farm experience. The Labor Day weekend we went was just so charming: children playing and running around, dogs laying restfully, beers on tap (including wine beer, very potent!), and live bluegrass playing as the sun was setting. It was just magical, and so Sacramento, and so... America. You would not find this in San Francisco or LA, this place greatly reflected the charm of the Sacramento area. Sac was a bit of a cow town in its heyday, don't you know! Food options are limited, a bit pricey, but tasty. Service is friendly and straightforward, and the farm is a spacious, dusty, animal-filled, screen-free wonderous place. Definitely worth a visit! read more

I haven't stopped bragging about this place that was highly recommended to me. This past Sunday I hosted my son's going away party as he prepared to leave for BMT for the Air Force. Reservations were super easy and accommodating. When we arrived I was greeted by one of the workers who had been waiting for me. She walked us to our area which couldn't have been any more perfect !!! Lots of space, lots of seating, in the shade (it was extremely hot that day. They did have misters on that helped some). Every single person we encountered were extremely friendly and helpful. We had a group of teens, young adults, kids, and adults. It's safe to say everybody of all ages had a great time! There was so much to see and do. The views at night were breathtakingly beautiful!! My 7 year old made a Rooster friend who he has named Cheddar lol and keeps begging to go back! Although we brought in our own food, the drinks they poured were refreshing, the ice cream was so good and very affordable, and apparently the hot dogs were some of the best one of my guests ever had. We will definitely be back very soon!! Hopefully on a Friday or Saturday to enjoy the live music. Planning my micropreemies 1st birthday and will definitely be holding at this amazing venue. I have definitely never ate and drank amongst chickens, cats, and ducks before. The beer was really good and I liked the rustic barnyard environment. What a gem! We visited this place for the first time as part of a birthday party (but it was actually a cover for the birthday celebrant to propose to his girlfriend -- teehee -- which he did, on the second-floor balcony, and our group got to watch and cheer from the ground). It was a cold afternoon/evening in December, but we dressed warmly and stayed by the firepit. There were maybe 4-6 other clusters of people there also, and definitely another birthday party going on because the guests were singing along loudly to a special request playlist that the staff played on the speaker for them. I thought it was a good number of people considering how cold and dark it got. Our group brought a bunch of kids, and they pretty much explored the grounds the whole time -- feeding the animals, making friends with other kids, and having a blast. Food from the food truck was fine, just be careful leaving your food out unattended because some random dog gobbled our burger when we weren't looking. It's a beautiful spot. We should all be so grateful for having access to it, basically for free. Drinks were good. Good vibes. Super relaxing to be out in nature. Friendly staff. As of this review, you can reserve areas for parties/events for free, and you can bring in your own food and drinks, excluding alcohol, of course, since they are a brewery. I'm sure it gets crazy busy during the warmer months, but it is worth a visit even in the cold. Just dress right. read more
