DJ Chicago was one of the biggest reasons why our wedding was such a huge success! We first saw Nick DJ at a family member's wedding a few years ago and we immediately knew that we had to book him when the time came. We thought he did such a great job at keeping everyone on the dance floor and we loved his entire set list. From the very beginning Nick and Charlotte who helps with wedding coordination were a delight to work with, super nice, funny, and really responsive. Nick assisted us with everything that went into the reception including the intros, speeches, first dances and send-off. He was so flexible and offered us lots of his advice and tips throughout. He was so open and willing to do whatever to help give us what we envisioned, while letting us know what would work and what wouldn't. We also could tell from our initial meeting that he really understood how to coordinate and DJ a wedding, he talked about how he would transition from different eras and techniques he could use to read the room and determine what would hit and what wouldn't. He also talked about how there's certain parts in songs that people loved, and other parts not so much. You know you've been to a wedding before where the DJ just cannot seem to get out of a decade or plays a song way too long. He totally knocked it out of the park! Our dance floor was packed from the very first to the very last song. We had the best man come up to us the next day and say "I really needed to go to the bathroom but then another banger would come on and I needed to stay out on the dance floor." We also had another guest ask us for his information for a future wedding. We received so many compliments how he absolutely crushed it! When he announced that the last song was coming on, there were boos from the audience! He did such a great job at tailoring the set list to us as well, integrating our likes/dislikes and small comments that we made to him during our meetings to really make it seem like it was for us. We were talking to our family member (the one that he DJd at before us) and we were talking about fun it was at both weddings and how great Nick was at both weddings, but how it felt really different. A DJ, I think can be one of the hardest vendors to book for a wedding. Do yourself a favor and book Nick and DJ Chicago, I have no reservation in recommending him to anyone and everyone! read more

Mark was very professional and a lot of fun. I couldn't have asked for a better DJ for my wedding. The quality of the sound system was excellent. The volume level during dancing was perfect - not too loud so people sitting at tables could still hear each other talk, but plenty loud enough near the bar and on the dance floor to keep the party going. Mark checked to make sure our wedding party introductions were correct, which was good because we had made a mistake in the original lineup we gave him. He was quick to resolve the problem and pronounced all the difficult names flawlessly. Mark paid attention to the "flow" of the party. He started playing music a bit earlier than our contract time because it seemed appropriate, and he started the dance music a bit earlier than we had planned too because the moment was right. It was clear he was experienced and wanted to help us have the best party possible and not just go strictly by the itinerary we gave him - which I liked a lot. He also played a song not on our requested list after hearing about a certain artist during the best man's speech - more evidence that he was paying attention and had the experience to adjust plans on the fly where appropriate. Ultimately, Mark helped get a bunch of people who don't usually dance (or know how to), excited enough to give it a try. Which is quite a talent. We originally set up an informational meeting with DJ Chicago because of the outstanding rating on Yelp, but after talking with Mark, we were sold. Mike ended up DJ'ing our wedding and we recommend him any chance we get. From our wedding planner at the end of the night, "Rarely have I seen that many people dance for that long at a wedding!" He kept us informed and managed to keep our (rather large) bridal party also in line. His communication was great, and he was flexible when things weren't exact to the schedule. He worked well with our photographer to coordinate who/when/where. In terms of music selection, Mike again did a phenomenal job. I don't think I left the dance floor for more than five minutes the night of my wedding! We met with Nick a few months before the wedding and we knew it was a perfect fit. He understood the type of music we wanted to play and matched us perfectly with DJ John. John was the perfect MC and also kept the dance floor packed all night! He really read the audience and changed the music according the crowd, which worked out well for our wide age range at the reception. We had a ton of song requests and he played them all, plus a few that really got the crowd going. I would recommend John or anyone at DJ Chicago to anyone - not to mention they are super affordable. Thanks to DJ Chicago I had to apologize to each of our wedding guests for my sweaty back as they hugged me. Our DJ Dylan was truly superb and kept me and the rest of our guests on the dance floor, working up a sweat ALL NIGHT LONG. He did a great job of using the songs on our suggested play list as a starting point and every thing he played worked so well for what we were looking for. I had numerous people tell me during and after the wedding that our DJ was great. His professionalism was top notch and he was so helpful during the event in guiding us towards decisions that provided the best flow for the evening. DJ Chicago was a joy to work with from start to finish. Our first meeting was with the owner, Mark who discussed with us our vision and music preferences. I especially appreciated it when he told us that he doesn't believe in all kinds of extra charges so the price listed is the full price- including tax and no additional requirements like paying for the DJ's parking or providing them with a vendor meal. THANK YOU!! That being said, we made sure our DJ received a meal at the reception. Com'on people, Feed Your DJ!!! They are at your event all evening so don't make them work on an empty stomach. Our second meeting was closer to the event where we met with Mark and the DJ assigned to our wedding based on availability and fit with our musical preferences. I left this meeting feeling extremely confident in our choice to hire DJ Chicago. They listened closely to our plans for the reception and were able to make suggestions based on their expertise as well. They were also pros at writing down all of the bridal party's names phonetically for announcements so that they would be pronounced properly. This was especially important because we had lots of long, non-western last names. However, this didn't phase Mark and Dylan and they properly pronounced them all. Mark from DJ Chicago DJ'ed our wedding and we both really liked him. When we first sat down with Mark, about 8 months before the wedding, we will confident that he would do a good job. At our meeting to discuss music, we were not as prepared as we should have been, but he went through the ceremony and reception and gave us some ideas. He also worked with all our ideas and didn't make us feel stupid or cheesy for picking particular songs (and we chose some cheesy ones for the reception!!) We also had a slideshow that we finished and dropped off the day before the wedding, and even though we were really running late with that, he went with the flow and just told us to drop of the DVD at his office. The day of the wedding, he was really calm and really knew what he was doing. Something that my husband and I appreciated was that Mark always asked us if there were to be any changes. We decided to change the order of somethings during the reception and he came up to us and double checked to make sure it was okay. Also, since we had a Jewish wedding, there was a huge crazy dance set. I thought it was going long and I caught his eye. He said "three minutes" and I said "nope, just one more minute of this" and he quickly wound it up, which was perfect. By the time we started the dance set, it was getting a little late so he played a lot of faster songs but made time for a few slow songs and the anniversary dance that we had requested. He got the crowd going and played good and fun and appropriate music. Even my rockstar 16 month old niece, who should have gone to bed at 7, could not stop dancing until midnight. He really stayed with the type of music that we liked. Who knew that I would break out the dance moves for "Single Ladies" Unfortunately, that one is on video... We were really pleased and would recommend DJ Chicago, and Mark specifically for a wedding. Amazing! Truly have nothing bad to say. We had Nick (the General Manager) for our wedding on 11/2/19. He was so kind from start to finish of the process. He was willing to meet later at night to accommodate our schedules and was super thoughtful in conversations to figure out exactly what we wanted for the music at our wedding. He was also super responsive to emails throughout the process. On the night of - he was awesome. We wanted to include a bunch of different kinds of music for our two families and Nick played a perfect blend of music throughout the night. All of our guests loved him. We also had an issue with the venue's microphone - they had not let Nick use his own equipment. Nick immediately came to us and apologized even though it was not his fault, and then replaced the mic with his own for the rest of the night. Nick/DJ Chicago is GREAT, highly recommend. read more

One of the best decisions we made when wedding planning was hiring DJ Chicago. Nick was our DJ and he did an amazing job!! He kept us in the loop the whole time on what we needed to know and next steps. The songs he played all night were a hit. Mark Rankin dj'd our wedding last October and was nothing short of totally fabulous! I was referred to him by our wedding venue but I also saw him featured in US Weekly for celebrity weddings/parties in Chicago so I knew he'd be a pro. The first thing he tells us is basically he won't dress up in a Chicken suit and force my relatives to do line dances. We LOVED that. He really knows how to get the party started and keep it going but also weave in music that is important to my hubby and I - my husband has some eclectic tastes but he was able to incorporate some of his music and keep the crowd interested. He had great suggestions and also recommended ways for us to keep his cost down (awesome) and made a CD for us to keep post-wedding. Mark was our DJ, and he was incredible. He was extremely professional and organized. We didn't know what we were doing in terms of all the little events during the reception (such as the introductions, cake-cutting, speeches, bouquet toss...) and he really helped us think through all that and coordinated with our caterer to keep us on track. And most importantly, the music was FABULOUS! To me, the music is the most important part of a wedding reception. We had some concerns about the DJ because we did not want any of the traditional wedding music (no chicken dance, love shack, etc.). My husband and I got married last month in Lakeview and can't even express how pleased we were with DJ-Chicago. From the very beginning, Mark (owner) was professional and easy to contact. During our first meeting, he asked us a series of questions to understand our expectations and identify our style. For dinner, we wanted solid chill music (e.g., Milo Greene, Ivan & Alyosha, Sigur Ros, etc.) and then afterward we wanted to have the world's greatest dance party. Mark did a great job listening to us and paired us up with Nick who was a perfect fit for our wedding! During the wedding, Nick was absolutely incredible. He helped us stay on schedule but was completely relaxed and let us move things around as needed. The music he played couldn't have been more perfect. He took the list of artists we gave for dinner and played the perfect selection to match our styles and the mood. For the dancing, he mixed old favorites and new dance songs seamlessly so the dance floor never slowed down. This review is long overdue as we had our wedding in May 2017. But we wanted to give a shoutout to Dylan at DJ Chicago who made our night amazing! The guests were dancing all night long, even though we had quite an age range. One of the challenges that I was worried about was my husband and my very different tastes in music (he likes folk, I like Top 40) but Dylan did an amazing job with appeasing both of us and taking requests from guests. He had been to our venue before and when I asked him about extras such as uplighting, he was honest with us, which was highly appreciated. I don't know why it took me so long to write this review, but these guys are great! Jared was the DJ at our wedding in July of 2019, and he was absolutely fantastic. One of my biggest worries going into the reception was that we would have a boring or empty dance floor, but Jared (along with our awesome bridal party) did an amazing job of keeping the party going all night. His song choices were perfect, and he incorporated songs we had requested while flawlessly moving to other options. At one point, he made a small mistake (playing the song we had chosen for our final dance earlier on in the night), and he immediately sought me out, apologizing profusely and providing other last song options. It really wasn't a big deal at all, but I so appreciated that he was immediately upfront about making a (very small) mistake, especially when other vendors weren't as forthcoming. Prior to the wedding, Nick was great to work with--honest, reliable, and helpful. I would highly recommend DJ Chicago! read more

I really can't say enough wonderful things about this company or about Mark, the owner and DJ for my recent wedding. I was married on January 19th, and everyone had so much fun at the reception. We contacted DJ Chicago about 6 months prior to our wedding, and after our first meeting with Mark, we were sure we wanted to book them for our event. Mark was SO easy to work with - he was very accommodating and was so easy to communicate with, which is no small feat considering we were planning our wedding from out of town. We felt like he really listened to us during our preliminary meetings, and he was also a great resource offering very helpful suggestions and answers to our questions in the planning phase. Everyone thinks that her wedding day was perfect, and I am no exception. I believe that one of the main reasons our reception was so wonderful was because of our wonderful DJ! First and foremost, he pronounced EVERYONE'S name correctly. Everyone's. I have been in so many weddings where names are mis-pronounced during the introductions, I can't even tell you...and we gave him some incredibly challenging names to work with. I mention this mostly because I think it is a testament to the level of detail and care that Mark and DJ Chicago gave to us on our wedding day. The music during dinner was perfect and just what we asked for. He did a great job keeping the reception moving along as scheduled, and checked in with my husband and I enough to let us know what was going to be happening, but not so much that it was too much. And the dancing. Oh the dancing! He managed to get the majority of our guests, young and old onto the dance floor, and he played such a great range of music so there was truly something for everyone. The floor was literally full of people dancing and singing until the very last minute of the reception, and we received so many compliments on Mark's behalf. In sum - DJ Chicago was hands-down one of the best choices we made for our wedding. The cost was very reasonable, and Mark was a true professional. My husband and I were married last weekend and we absolutely had the time of our lives, and a big reason was because of the music of the night. I found DJ-Chicago based on reviews on Yelp and I am sooooo glad I went with this company! From our first meeting with Mark we knew we made the right choice. Mark was our DJ for our November 3rd wedding and he did an absolutely amazing job. We live in LA but got married back home in Chicago, so all of our planning was done over the phone and it could not have been easier. Being able to go online and make our "Must Play" list was a huge help and Mark's suggestions about timing, last songs, etc. were spot on. The night of our event he set up and showed up early and was the picture of professionalism. He basically directed our entire night and was able to read the crowd perfectly. Numerous guests approached us and told us that they loved our DJ, and even my dad (who doesn't typically notice those things) was highly impressed. When they decided to keep the bar open, Mark was more than happy to stay and help our guests finish off the night right with plenty of fantastic music and dancing. We used DJ-Chicago for our wedding on 8/18/12 in Chicago. We had Chris as our DJ, Mark was already booked. Overall Chris did a great job, he kept us calm and in line as we prepared for our introductions, he kept the schedule going and got great party momentum at certain points in the night. They were very professional and the sound was great. I do think DJ Chicago has some opportunity to take it to the next level. If you want a DJ that can mix songs using transitions into the next song, this DJ doesn't do it. Maybe Mark can do it though-- I've never heard him DJ. Overall I think Mark the owner is great and DJ Chris did a good job, I think it's a professional, well run DJ company and I would recommend them to others planning a wedding. I can not say enough good things about this company. I contacted Mark after being flaked on by my original DJ, and was beyond pleased to find such a professional and personable resource. I should have started with this company from the very beginning. In our initial meeting, the owner, Mark, was very clear and upfront about timeline and when he would be contacting me to discuss wedding day details. He provided me with a list of songs to pick "do/do not play" lists, and was in contact with my hotel event manager to coordinate day-of details. In a subsequent meeting prior to the wedding, he met with me and a DJ from his company he paired me with for my event - Chris - to walk through day of timeline and get a feeling for the kind of event I was expecting. I needed a DJ for ceremony through reception, and bottom line for me was to throw a really great party; from what my guests tell me, that's exactly what they got. This is a credit to Chris and his work, who did a GREAT job throughout the entire day, always keeping me and my husband aware of what was coming up, how something was going to go, and what to be ready for. The quality of the sound system was great, the music selection was great, and the organization of the event pieces was great. Basically, Chris ran the sh*t out of my wedding and it was f'ing awesome. My wife and I used DJ-Chicago for our May 10 wedding at the Woman's Club of Evanston (I know, it's taken us three months to write a review, we're horrible). We could not have been more pleased with our choice. During our initial meeting with Mark (the owner) we knew we found the right place. Mark understood the type of music/vibe we were going for right away (unlike another DJ we met with...if you're wedding planning you've probably come across them -- they're trendy -- who thought our wedding was to be their indie-rock showcase). Mark was extremely easy to work with and charged a fair rate. Chad, our selected DJ for the event, was great. He had worked weddings at the Woman's Club in the past, so he knew the best setup and optimal volume to keep the party lively. The music was loud enough to keep people dancing, but not so loud that you had to shout to hear yourself. His selection was fun and had the right mix of eras and styles with minimal guidance/"must plays" from us. Chad had to handle a couple on-the-fly requests during the reception and did so smoothly. He even came out to find us a couple of times when he had a question and wanted a nod from us before proceeding. His MC duties were excellent as well. He navigated all the introductions superbly and did a great job managing the flow of toasts. Chad was professional and turned out an excellent playlist. There were no lulls on the floor and people danced until they brought up the lights. If we had settled on the first DJ we met with, we never would have found these guys. Rating sums it up - as good as it gets! Mark was approachable, knowledgeable, and great to work with. He was flexible and professional - giving us plenty of information and guidance, but also plenty of freedom to make the process our own. We were paired with Chris, the DJ for our wedding, who was equally professional and courteous. He was respectful of our needs and wants, but also promising of using his skills to make the event the best it could be. Services for the actual event were amazing! We had Chris helping with our ceremony and cocktail hour (prior to reception). In both instances, Chris was present, profesional, prepared, and active in making sure all was well and doing what he could to mitigate any potential issues or complications. This was evidenced by his omnipresence and lack of complications. He also helped advise and give direction to navigate schedule issues we were experiencing (outside of his/our control - related to food/guest). His experience and feedback was valuable and necessary for us to best move forward in modifying our timeline for the event (transitioning from dinner/speeches to reception/dancing). That said, once music/dancing started, my wife, myself, and majority of the guests never left the dance floor. So many people commented on the DJ being fantastic. Additionally, everyone was surprised at how people of all ages were active on the dance floor all night. Chris took our list of possible songs and built off of it, put songs in an order that was balanced and energetic, and kept the party steadily pushing forward. I spoke with at least two wedding vendors who had their own weddings done by DJ Chicago and that alone speaks volumes. If people in the industry are using it, you know the service is legit. Like all things wedding-vendor, I expect you to compare DJs and meet with a few. Just make sure you include DJ Chicago. I'm confident that like us, you'll choose them over the other services. Dylan was incredibly helpful as we were planning our reception and forming our must-play list. When we were at a loss, he had great suggestions, and overall he made the entire process as easy and stress-free as it could be. On the day of the wedding I threw Dylan a curveball and requested an additional song be included in the processional music literally 10 minutes before the ceremony started. He wasn't phased and was able to include the song without issue. Throughout the day he kept everything flowing nicely, and once it was time for guests to hit the dance floor it was packed until the end of the night. He never yelled over the music or killed the mood with a weird song choice, which we've seen lesser DJs do at other weddings. We got multiple compliments from guests and had an amazing time ourselves. We were so impressed and were so happy to see our guests out on the dance floor grooving and having a blast. Gil is the best DJ we have ever heard. Not only did we love him, we received so many compliments from our wedding guests. Gil is great at beat mixing and catering to the dance crowd. He played a nice variety for the older folks and knew exactly what to play for the younger crowd. He was a pleasure to work with- from the consult to the day of the wedding. We hired Mark with DJ Chicago for our March 13, 2013 wedding! Mark was absolutely fantastic to work with. The dance floor was packed all night, it was the perfect mix of music for all of our guests. We gave him an overview of music we wanted, but got overwhelmed with trying to make an exact list. So he took care of our playlist for us, and hit it out of the park! He set us at ease, he found us before the big things were going to happen and made sure we were ready. He set a fantastic tone to the reception and really helped the night to flow perfectly. We received comments from all of our guests about how incredible our DJ was, and it was our family members on the dance floor at the end of the night. We hired DJ- Chicago for our wedding on 9/19/15. After meeting with Mark the owner- I felt confidant that he would be great to DJ our wedding. We met with Mark again a week before the wedding- and he was SOO helpful in helping give us music suggestions and song choices as my fiance and I weren't very particular. I only gave Mark one piece of guidance - and that was to keep the party dancing all night and that he did! He read the crowd, and kept all my guests dancing the entire night. I had so many people come up to me and say he was one of the best DJ's they've seen. He played a great mix of old & new - but not the lame old traditional wedding songs- he played some 90s hip hop that our whole group loved. He gave us great suggestions for our entrance song, pie cutting song, etc. after we told him the vibe we were going for that night. With his guidance we also ended the night with Bohemian Rhapsody - we had all of our guests screaming/singing along and it was hands down one of my highlights from the night! Mark/DJ Chicago was extremely professional, reasonably priced and soo helpful. We would highly highly recommend anyone book Mark for their wedding! read more

Mark was an excellent DJ for our wedding. We were having issues with the weather amd were unsure if it would be outdoors or indoors. He was very accomodating and adaptive to the situation, and did an outstanding job with the music during both the ceremony and the reception. We had a small wedding with few people that like to dance, but he still managed to get the majority of everyone on the dance floor. Admittedly, we had a lot of requested music that's a bit "undeground". Not a lot of people would recognize and get excited by it, so he mixed in some stuff he knew would make people dance. It was a perfect blend of what we wanted with what worked well. Overall, DJ Chicago was truly professional, cost effective, and flexible for us. I would recommend them without hesitation. read more

We had a wonderful experience with DJ-Chicago from planning the event through the actual wedding. We met two times with Mark who is the owner and incredibly attentive. I had been dealing with many vendors and I felt that I was constantly getting gauged for extra money at every opportunity; however, I never felt that way with DJ-Chicago. In fact, DJ-Chicago allowed our live music player to use their equipment during the cocktail hour and we were not charged. I truly felt that Mark and his crew wanted to create a good experience for us and our guests and they delivered. At our final meeting, we met with Mark and our DJ, Chad. Chad totally understood our taste and he masterfully choreographed the events of the evening. Most importantly, the dance floor was packed all night and we have continued to received compliments on our awesome DJ. If we need a DJ in the future, we will definitely use DJ Chicago. read more

We are SO happy that we went with DJ Chicago for our 9/4/15 wedding. My husband and I met with several of the more popular DJ companies in the city, including Toast and Jam, while doing our research. But after meeting with Mark Rankin (who is the owner), it was an easy choice for us. My husband and I aren't huge dancers and so I was actually a little worried that the dance floor would be empty at our reception! Needless to say, Mark kept it packed the whole time and we are STILL getting tons of positive feedback from friends and family about our great DJ two months later. Mark also did the music for our ceremony and cocktail hour, and made sure everything went completely smooth. He even went above and beyond by helping our ceremony musician get connected and do a sound check. Not like DJ Chicago needs anymore glowing reviews, but for real you guys - They're great.
