Warm and welcoming. We were all happy with our appetizers and drinks. I had a Mediterranean feta dip. My husband had an orange salad, my sister in law the beet salad and my brother in law had the burrata salad. We all loved what we had. Cocktails were great, The guys had old fashioneds. I tried my husbands and it was nice and smooth with hints of honey. My sister in law and I had white raspberry vodka martinis. Again smooth and refreshing. At this point, we all would've given the place a solid five. That is until the steaks came. Three of us had the dry aged ribeyes we ordered them medium rare. They were served well done. Not a hint of red or pink! The waitress asked us to cut into them to see if they were to our liking. We all said they were overcooked. Not the waitresses fault. She was great. We asked what they did with overdone ones sent back and she said they 86'd them. We couldn't bare throwing all that food out so we ate them. The char on the outside was good but we feel that's what caused them to be overdone. The flavor was ok but at $68 a plate you expect your steak to be served the way you requested it. We were very disappointed and no compensation was offered. By the way, the guy at the table behind us sent his back because it was overdone as well. My husband had the surf and turf special filet with shrimp over mashed potatoes. He was happy with his meal. It's a beautiful place and we were happy with everything except the steak. But that's a big except when that is the reason we went there. If you go and want medium rare ask for rare and you might get lucky. Otherwise stick to the tavern down below the steakhouse.

The Waiter's comments were indecipherable with all the noise. I ordered a Margarita rocks/no salt & a Black & Blue Burger requested pink. What I received was the Margarita pictured with a slice of very old dried brownish lime and my very well done burger. Not their best night!

My friend and I thought we would grab a bite for dinner from here and I'm so happy that we did! There is an extensive selection of beers, ciders, and specialty cocktails. The food menu also offers something for everybody! I decided to give the birria tacos special a try, while my friend ordered the smoked meatloaf sandwich. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The tacco meat was so tender and I tried a bite of my friend's meatloaf which was so good that I may order it next time! Our waitress was also kind and helpful! I'm happy to return to this establishment again in the near future!

Although chilly in here, we had a nice time. My parents loved the food too which was great. Tonight I got the Arepa which apparently, I won't get again because it's the second time I've had it (not here the first time) and didn't care for it. The pulled pork on top was good though I just don't care for the dish itself. A bit bland. My picture unfortunately didn't come out good for that dish. My dad got the Panko Crusted Fish Sandwich and my mom got the nachos. They loved what they got. I've been in the past and had the pizza, the poutine, pork belly sandwich, etc. I'd love to try the crab dip and whipped ricotta someday. Fun spot.

For close to 25 years, the Mazzaro family operated Vic's Pizza on Quinnipiac Avenue. Eventually, they had an idea to open something bigger and better with a more extensive menu. The restaurant was named for their son Jason, who goes by the nickname "J. Roo". Originally, the restaurant was billed as "J. Roo's, home of Vic's Pizza". The extensive menu consists of Italian specialties, seafood dishes, steakhouse entrees, New Haven-style pizza, burgers & hotdogs, sandwiches & wraps, salads, soups, wings, various bar bites, craft beer, wine, and specialty cocktails. In 2015, J. Roo's temporarily closed for a major renovation. The current, larger restaurant space opened the following year. My family and I recently had dinner at J. Roo's. My wife and I have enjoyed their food a few times in the past, but this was the first visit for our two sons. We were all seated at a booth in the main dining area. J. Roo's makes great wings and other various types of bar appetizers, but we were all in the mood for some New Haven-style pizza. We decided to order two medium pizzas: the "Pesto" (white pie, fresh mozz, grilled chicken & garlic pesto sauce) and the "Meatball Ala Vodka" (vodka sauce, meatballs, fresh mozz); the latter was a special. These pies were EXCELLENT! Really crispy crust, great sauces and really good toppings! Although the meatball pie was a special, J. Roo's should really consider making it a permanent addition to the menu. My wife and I washed our pizzas down with some delicious Foxon Park Birch Beer. Overall, we had a great visit at J. Roo's and look forward to returning!

The drinks were OK. I would give them about a 3.5 out of 5. Nothing special but tasted like bottom shelf alcohol. We ordered the clam chowder, which was a creamy New England style with a lot of celery. We got the chicken cutlet sandwich that came with truffle fries. Everything was really good after a day of exertion. The ciabatta bun was kind of hard, but other than that, no complaints about the food.
