When he says his guys will be there, they will be there. 3) He's experienced and knows how to navigate projects smoothly. A couple of notes for having a successful project. First, Tom is old school and you're going to have a better time if you just call him on the phone rather than sending him a long email. Second, construction projects can be unpredictable and frustrating. Having a good relationship with your contractor is very important as you'll need to be flexible as unexpected stuff comes up. I feel that I can trust Tom to complete the project in a way I'm happy with, he can navigate changes, and that he genuinely is motivated to do a good job.

Jerry is very knowledgable and talked us through the whole process from start to finish. Being new homeowners, we really appreciated him taking the time to work with us and answer all our questions, so we were comfortable. He gave us a couple different options for types of stains and also presented a few fixes for some slight gapping between the baseboards and the floor since the previous owner had carpet. I never felt like Jerry was trying to up sell us or recommend work that would get him more money. He just presented us with the options and costs and let us make the decision. We received a specific quote to refinish the floors and do a few repairs on some of the boards. Even though they ended up having to replace more boards than he initially thought, he stayed within his quote. We also had a very specific schedule, and he accommodated gladly. To sum it all up, the work was done as well or better than expected, completed on schedule, and delivered at the exact price originally quoted. Additionally, Jerry was very patient and never tried to pressure us into spending more on work we didn't really need. I don't think you can ask for anything more.

Scott, you made my dreams for the fireplace nook cabinets come true!…read more I'd been thinking and dreaming about fireplace nook cabinets for several years. My SF house has traditional styling with crown moldings and wood floors so the modern glass media cart my husband bought to house our AV equipment just never looked right to me. I already had a good idea of what I wanted, cabinets and a floating shelf above, painted to match the existing trim (I knew the exact color from an earlier paint job). I found Scott's business on Yelp and looked at his web site. Photos of his previous projects were very helpful as I could see the cabinet styles were a good match to my vision. At our first meeting, Scott made helpful suggestions for the styling of the doors and shelf edges, then emailed me preliminary 3D drawings a couple days later. The drawers on the right side cabinet have automatic soft close slides which are oh-so-cool. I wanted sliding doors so we could open them while using our AV system, for better dissipation of heat and no need for IR repeaters. Scott installed grommets (painted to match) for running cables out of the front of the cabinets to the pair of speakers that flank the fireplace. Cutouts and grommets were installed in interior shelves for cable management. I've included some photos on this Yelp page. I am extremely pleased with the quality of workmanship and professionalism of Scott and his team for my project. I highly recommend his services.

He also came up with an ingenious way to work around an awkwardly-placed pipe. Scott and his team did the demolition work on the existing closet space extremely quickly and efficiently, and came up with clever ways to save us from having to re-do the hardwood floor around the closet. The new built-in was done perfectly and seemed like it sprung up overnight. Scott was quick, clean, and reasonably priced vs. alternatives. I worked with Mike Shine and Jessie Chen on my kitchen project. They were both very patient, as I…read moretook a while to decide on cabinet and counter top colors. Mike came out to my house and measured the space, and they put together a proposal for Design-Craft frameless cabinets. I had a few changes to the design, which Jessie made promptly. Once the order was placed, it was about 6 weeks before the cabinets were delivered. The cabinets caused my contractor a few problems to install because they were not all perfectly straight, but he made it work, and they look fantastic. My advice to future clients is that these cabinets are not custom, so expectations should be set accordingly. That said, they are lovely installed. I also ordered Caesarstone countertops from QKC, who subs this out to a local stone company. They came out, made their template, and were back in a little over a week for install. They have had to come back once already to fix a tiny chip, and Mike is having them come out again to fix a seam that does not look perfect. Given my experience so far, I hope and expect they'll do a good job with this as well. I definitely recommend QKC, and Mike and Jessie in particular, if you are looking for a reasonably priced one stop shop for cabinets and countertops in SF.
