Water Heater installation Update: November 15, 2018 Mike came over yesterday afternoon as scheduled. Mike was very helpful. He had to hang in there with us, since the water heater arrived a couple of weeks late. Mike even attempted to get us the heater sooner, as Lowe's was having logistical problem getting the unit to us as promised. Within a couple of hours of Calplumbing arriving, we were up to our necks in hot water. Mike removed our 17 year old water heater, and installed the new 50 gallon, 5500 watt, 12 year warrantied A.O. Mike came out for what was supposed to be a quick, easy faucet fix. It turned into a much more complicated full replacement, and he managed to do it in a very narrow time window. He is honest and charges fairly and appropriately for the job. Mike, the owner/operator, of CalPlumbing came out to give a free estimate on a broken pipe from the wash tub to the house main. He was prompt, honest, and gave me a no bull honest assessment of the situation. He gave me the fix-it quick, or the fix-it right price.; which only turned out to be a $100 difference. I told him to fix-it right, and he promised to return later in the day to do the work. He arrived a little later than promised, but I know stuff happens during the course of the day and that it can't always be helped. The important part was he actually called to tell me he was going to be late, instead of just ignoring me like most service people have been known to do. Upon his arrival Mike went straight to work and fixed the whole deal in no time at all. In fact he was so fast I asked him to take a look at my spray hose in the kitchen sink while he was here, and he did so without blinking an eye. He was able to diagnose the problem and fix it for pretty cheap. I also noticed he did a bunch of extra stuff that we hadn't talked about because the man is a consummate professional and wants to do the job right and doesn't feel the need to nickel-and-dime the customer for every little thing. I was very impressed with his knowledge, friendliness, thoroughness, speed, and he was pretty cheap (considering the amount of work he did). Mike has done three jobs for me (now four), 1. hooked up my sink in my newly remodeled bathroom, 2. diagnosed a leaking kitchen faucet then installed the new faucet, and 3. moved my garbage disposal from y left sink to my right sink. My bathroom sink was backing up and the toilet sometimes needed two flushes to empty. Mike looked at the problem and told me the toilet was OK and he brought in a heavy duty snake for the sink. Everything works beautifully now and his price was as quoted (and cheap!!) While he was working in the bathroom, he discovered a leak that I thought was coming from the sink but it was actually coming from outside. Mike has been doing plumbing on my house (100+ years old) in San Francisco for 14+ years. Mike has done everything from little projects to huge projects as we renovated over the years, including emergencies as old plumbing failed at inconvenient times. With an old house, when one starts a project, one never knows what you'll be truly facing until the project is started. Many of these projects have been very complex, while we worked through what to do, how to do it, get plumbing permits, keep the cost in line, limit the amount of non-plumbing work needed, all while also keeping the house running so we can live in it through the projects. So although we replaced _almost_ everything when we remodeled our house, we didn't do the 60 year old cast iron pipes. When they then failed at the worst possible time financially, we called Mike out. While other plumbers were quoting us $2-3k for the work - to do entire pipe replacements, to reroute the pipes around the house, etc. etc. - Mike saw that all we needed to do was replace the broken section. When I explained money was a problem, Mike suggested things we could do to keep the price down (chiseling out the area around the pipes for a start). Mike came when scheduled, stuck to the estimate, and when a cracked tub drain came up during the job, ran down to the hardware store to get extra parts so we could get this all wrapped up. I can't say enough good things about Mike, truly. He came to my house today to give me a second opinion on a blocked sewer line that kept causing water to leak from the downstairs toilet onto the bathroom floor - a big mess. A different plumber came to take a look last weekend, and put a camera down the sewer line and found something blocking a section of the line, and his recommendation was that I hire him to tear up a section of the concrete in the basement so that he could replace the blocked section of the line. Today Mike put his camera down the sewer line, found the same thing blocking the line, and with much persistence with the snake was able to dislodge the item that was causing the blockage and push it through the sewer line all the way to where the cleanout (opening to the sewer line, located in the driveway) is located, and then he removed it through the cleanout! It saved me a lot of money and hassle, and I am so grateful... And Mike has been consistently responsive to my calls, friendly, patient, informative, and kind. I would recommend him to anyone. And, by the way, Mike was recommended to me by a contractor whom I trust 100% and who has done a lot of work on my house and on friends' houses over the years, and Mike was also recommended to me by the plumber whom I've hired a number of times in the past but who was not available to do this repair. read more
