I wish we could give DJS Painting a positive review because Don and Russell were cordial, the painting was on time, and the work was good. But we ended up feeling misled and with a ceiling color that wasn't what we expected. Specifically, we still had the paint sample card from when our dining room ceiling was painted with Benjamin Moore Cameo White -- which is still available -- and we gave to Russell. But rather than going to Benjamin Moore, they went instead to Sherwin Williams to match it instead. Only after the painting was done did we see that it wasn't a good match. When we raised this with them we were told that "it was the closest" Sherwin Williams could make. When we asked why they didn't use the original Benjamin Moore they told us that "we only use Sherwin Williams" and claimed that they had told us that. They hadn't .There was a reference to Sherwin Williams in the handwritten proposal, but nothing about exclusively. Nor did they tell us when they came back with the paint that it wasn't a true match. They knew it wasn't but didn't show us and simply went ahead and painted the ceiling. We were left to discover the disparity ourselves. Then they weren't willing to go get the correct Benjamin Moore paint and repaint it to our satisfaction. We can only guess that they have a deal with Sherwin Williams. Here's what we found online regarding a painter's ethical responsibility: "While a house painter may express a preference for a specific paint, the homeowner ultimately has the final say on the paint to be used on their property." The bottom line is to be careful with DJS Painting and demand transparency from them. And don't let them leave your house with a check, because your satisfaction is not their ultimate commitment. Overpriced. I actually forgot to write this review a couple of years ago when I had the service done. They sounded quite nice through the phone so I hired them to paint my front door which is average measurements. They charged at the time $670 which I thought it was a bit overpriced but as they were going to remove the other paint and sand it... to my surprise the painter came around and pretty much painted the door over the other colours... I find it a completely scammed and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. read more

We first had DJS paint our house in San Jose when we were getting ready to sell. They were wonderful and the job was perfect. From the estimate to color consultation to the crew to the final walk through. There was no question that when we needed our new house painted that they would be the ones who we would call. My husband spent 3-4 weeks getting bids from 8 (yes) different painters. DJS Painting was the very last to come and do a bid, and we feel very fortunate to have found them. Most of the painters we talked to detailed similar steps: · Power-washing · Scraping · Sanding · Caulking · Wood putty · Primer · Paint So why DJS? Several other highly-rated-on-yelp painters gave absolutely outrageous estimates (don't you guys know about homeadvisor.com?). One guy suggested that sanding wasn't necessary (okay, guy). A couple didn't seem nearly as knowledgeable or experienced with the processes and products. Of the 8 companies we talked to, we had 3 good bids and 5 craaap ones. Of the 3 good ones, DJS' was the middle-priced bid - but they seemed to offer the most comprehensive combination of price, professionalism, and experience/knowledge. Uniquely, DJS offers a color consultation and color sampling. Bill is their color consultant; he's a very friendly guy that didn't steer us toward his vision. Instead, he listened to what we wanted and suggested other colors that we may like. After the samples were placed on our house, we actually forewent our original picks that we were so confident in - and chose the colors Bill suggested. Our house's paint was peeling badly from years of baking in the sun. DJS put 5 guys on our project, hand-scraped 3 sides of the house, and put 4 coats of paint on our front door and trim. They unbelievably did all this in ~4 days. The results far exceeded our expectations - and it was a real pleasure doing business with these guys. read more

We called these guys to come out and paint our garage in our new home. The house was built in 2008 and the community never painted the inside of the garages. Don came out and we told him that we wanted the walls to be smooth, as smooth as the walls in the inside of our home. He quoted us 690 to just paint the garage, and 950 to smooth the walls and then paint them. We went with what we wanted - the smooth option. Don sent out his nephew, Thomas, and told him what he thought we wanted. 2 days later he was done and I was not happy. It wasn't what we wanted. It looked like something we could have hired someone outside of home depot to do for $100 a day. Don came out a couple days later and said that this is what we paid for. After a little explaining that we paid for our garage to be smooth, he offered us to just pay the lower quote amount and call it a day. I said no, it's not what we wanted, and we agreed on a new price with a few touch ups, and then call it a day. Don left and Thomas did the touch ups that we asked for, AND more! I am very pleased with how the garage looks now. It seems that the miscommunication was between Don and us. Thomas did a fabulous job and was super nice, but we wanted someone with more expertise to sand down our walls. I had a fantastic experience with Don and his team. DJS did an interior paint job in my newly purchased 1,546 square foot town home with tall ceilings. I'd never hired a painter before, but the process was amazingly smooth and the results were fantastic (I'm still marveling at the paint job.) Here's what made this experience a really positive one and deserving of 5 stars: - At our initial meeting, Don was pleasant, on time, and he was able to adjust the work level to meet my budget. He was also flexible on the price, which was much appreciated. - DJS service comes with a free color consultant who was also on time, very friendly and most importantly, helped me to pick colors for various rooms that I am really happy with. Also, any color I wanted was included in the quoted price. - DJS was able to start work with very little notice (just luck on my part, but much appreciated) and they even were able to start work one day late due to closing delays. - The painters showed up on time, were also friendly, and communication on details throughout the house went very smoothly. - They did great work! The paint throughout is beautiful. I am a designer, so I have an eye for detail and these guys handled things like edges, rounded corners, banisters, and fixtures extremely well. - They finished on time - Don said 2.5 days and that was exactly what it took. (How often do you hear that about a contractor?) - The crew cleaned up very well. there was nothing that I had to pick up or clean myself. Quick response to my painting inquiry from Robbyn and they were very accommodating that they were very willing to shift their busy schedules to squeeze in my project due to my time crunch. I received quotes from several companies DJS was in the middle of the pack, as far as cost, but offered more for the money. This included a color consultant and pre-painting 4 test colors on the house before we made the final selection. These guys are courteous, on time and do what they say they will do. The quality of work was excellent. Thomas (the owner's nephew) was the lead on our job and works extremely hard. This all comes with a five-year guarantee. Would definitely use them again. read more

I highly recommend DJs Painting service! I give Don Stover an A+. Don runs his company with integrity and professionalism. He says what he does and does what he says. He has a wonderful team to support him. Thomas is trustworthy and friendly. I would recommend DJs Painting to my grandmother. Don stained my concrete patio last year and did it with very short notice so I could have the job completed in time for my birthday party. That was service #1 When I called Don a year later to let him know that the product he used on the patio did not stand up to my expectations, he came to look at it within 2 days. Don agreed that the patio did not meet his standards either. That was service #2 He brought the Representative from Sherwin-Williams to look at it. The rep agreed that the stain may have been a bad batch or just a bad product. Sherwin-Williams agreed to replace the stain. But that left DJs Painting to cover the cost of labor. Don did not blink and eye and immediately sent his trusty team (led by Thomas) to redo the entire job. This included moving all my patio furniture and heavy plants. This is the kind of service that everyone should and does expect! DJS delivers this A+ service. **sad note: The stain still does not meet my expectations so I will have to call DJS again. This time I totally expect Sherwin-Williams - the paint/stain manufacturer to cover the cost of fixing this. I am not sure it is fixable though. I love my the paint in my house! no messes, no streaks, perfect layers, amazing detail. the workers were accommodating polite and they even triple check to make sure the right color goes on the right wall. (With nine colors this could have gone horribly wrong). They always answered their phone in a reasonable time. I even splattered stain from restraining on of my doors on a little section of new paint and they touched it up without hesitation. They were done on schedule.... (That's a huge thing with contractors these days) They also gave recommendations for our outside lattice work and discount to buy the products. i have never go with the first bidder on a home improvement project and the result was fantastic. Our front doors were damaged by years of sun and rain exposure, so we thought we needed to give them a face lift. I picked out DJS Painting from Yelp, and during my first encounter, I found Don is knowledgeable about all aspects of the painting business, is honest and take pride of his work. He explained to me the process of painting the doors and gave me a quote that is very reasonable. The work was going smoothly and Rubin was a pleasant young man, conscientious, hard working and polite. So is the manager Russ. They always leave the work place clean and are very customer-oriented. During the drying period, the wind was blowing hard and some dirt got into the wet paint. Though it's not a noticeable flaw, I mentioned this to Russ, he came back and touch up the spot. Now the doors look perfect and we couldn't be happier. Further prove that they do quality work, I found on the back of their business card, it says DJS offer a 5 year guarantee. The proof is in their work and responsiveness to their customer! Another update I found a scratch on the beautifully painted door 3-months after its finished. I went out to buy a small can of matching paint thinking I could patch it up myself. On second thought, I didn't know how to repair the scratch and didn't want to make the matter worse. I called Russ. He happily said that he will come again to fix it when he is in the area. He came with the original can of paint and quickly patch it up. I still love the paint job, but they left an awful mess. I now need to clean my carpets ( DARK mark spots) there is paint splatter on my glass stove top, bathroom floor and my hardwood floor. While I can clean/fix these I shouldn't have to. I'm a little disappointed in the major lack of clean up. read more

Sorry for delayd review but I wanted to let all know how great it was to work with Don Stover and his team at DJS painting. In July, I decided to have the "popcorn" ceiling or acoustic ceiling removed from my 2000 sq ft townhome. I did my due diligence and got 3 quotes- 2 were just over the phone and Don Stover took the time to come over and look at the job required. His prices were the lowest of the other two. I was impressed with his honesty on the details of what would be involved. They estimated the project would take 4 days. The crew arrived promptly around 8am or 9 am and took the time to tape off and cover the furniture and appliances. They were very accommodating in working around my wife staying upstairs while they worked downstairs. As we were concerned working on the Master bedroom and how we could sleep in that room that night, they adjusted their schedule so it was done early in the am and we were able to sleep that night in the Master bedroom. But with this change in plan, it resulted in a delay by another day costing Don additional manpower and hours. Nonetheless, Don said that it would not be an issue and stood by his original quotation and even had a crew come in on Sunday to complete the job. The touchup on the painting of the ceiling and walls was impressive. The finish and attention to detail was as if was an original project! Lastly, when all of this was completed, included in Don's service is having a cleaning crew wipe, dust off and vacuum the entire house! The cleaning was immaculate and welcomed! I am in sales and I value the motto "the customer first". Indeed working with Don and DJS, that is true. I would not hesitate to call Don and his crew again for any acoustic ceiling removal or paint project in the future. read more

Great job. Courteous, punctual, professional, and friendly. The job they did on our house was great. All of the workers were pleasant and helpful. They answered all my questions, always got back to me quickly, accommodated my schedule. They aren't cheap, but it was a good value for the money, and knowing that corners weren't being cut was important to us. The only minor ding I give them is the cleanup job. I did have to call and ask them to come and clean up the mess after the job was finished. It also would have been nice if they had swept up the walks and patio each afternoon before they left. BUT I feel the cleanup issue was minor in light of the overall job. I highly recommend them. I'd use them again in a minute. read more
