    Ribs, red rice and yams

I stumbled across this restaurant through the Yelp app and was interested to try from all the positive reviews although the staff was friendly and very helpful the food was only sub-par. I highly believe I came on a bad day (meaning they weren't expecting much customers for the day of the week we came). The red rice was very soft almost mushy the yams weren't bad they were sweetened and cooked right but the ribs were not as tender as expected and very light on bbq sauce on the one hand this place is very inexpensive and is worth giving another try

Ribs, Mac' n Cheese, sweet cornbread

If you have not been to the new DJ's location off 17 in the tikki taco strip mall run don't walk. It's a cozy little spot and the food is delicious. Truly southern cooking at its finest. The ribs fall off the bone, the Mac n cheese is excellent, and not pictured below okra stew is full of flavor. The fried chicken also not pictured is crisp, flavorful and not very greasy. The service is outstanding, and worth the wait in line if you go when they are busy. I'm tempted just to get all sides because they all looked fantastic. Definitely check this place out when you get a chance. You'll be happy

Beef stew over rice with cabbage, Collard greens, yams and Mac & Cheese

This food was amazing!!! The service was great! I'm not a pork eater so the fact that the collards and cabbage was cooked with Turkey was a plus for me. I purchased a ton of food for the family. We got the Turkey wings, beef stew, collards, yams, white rice, Mac and cheese & corn bread! We don't eat pork in my house so I wanted to get the fried chicken but it was cooked in the same grease as the pork chops. This place will defiantly be getting my business! O Almost for got. The fruit punch was amazing!!!!!! Most soul food places put to much of something in the food to give it that taste. This place wasn't like that. They did everything just right! Tasted like a nice home cooked meal. Totally recommend it!

Southern Cooking Done RIGHT at Gail's Soul Food -- Goose Creek, SC…read more New guy in town looking for some real, signature Southern cooking. I needed a break from all that Texas BBQ and wanted some true soul food -- the kind that feels like it came straight from someone's grandmother's kitchen. I started with Gail's Soul Food, and let me tell you... I have zero regrets. Every bite was worth it. I showed up around 4:45 PM, just 15 minutes before closing. As soon as I walked in, the lady at the counter hit me with: "We ain't frying nothing 10 minutes before we close." No problem at all, ma'am -- that line alone told me I was in the right place. I simply asked, "Alright then... what can I order?" I went with the smothered pork chops with rice and gravy, collard greens, green beans, and cabbage. BAM! Everything -- and I mean everything -- was excellent. The pork chops were tender, well-seasoned, with a nice touch of garlic and smothered perfectly in gravy. The collards were real collards, not canned (unlike too many places in Texas), and seasoned just right. The cabbage was flavorful, and the green beans were on point too. I also order a turkey wing smothered in gravy and it was also very tasty. The restaurant itself was clean, well-decorated, and welcoming. Even though they were about to close, the staff remained friendly, patient, and committed to giving me great service. That says a lot about their pride and professionalism. I truly enjoyed the food, the atmosphere, and the customer service. I'll definitely be back to try a few more menu items before I head back to Texas. If you're anywhere near Goose Creek and want real Southern comfort food done right, Gail's Soul Food is a must-visit.

I had the fried chicken with Mac and cheese and collards, my daughter had the fish sandwich with fries, my oldest son had the fried chicken, mac and cheese, and sweet potato fries, and my youngest son had the chicken tenders and fries. Everyone loves their food and honestly these portion sizes are "immense". Like you are bringing home the better part of a meal if you eat reasonably. Our server Roxy was incredibly friendly and attentive even though the place started filling up as we were there. It's a little plain and basic on the inside but you're here for the food not the decor. Everything felt and tasted completely homemade, just true home cooking here and it was a real delight. The chicken was super crispy, the Mac and cheese had lots of pepper and wasn't all glued up with fake cheese... real winner here! J.Ja

The pork chop was fried well and juicy. Red rice had good spice and was very good. Fried okra was seasoned well. The fried chicken was okay. It was very salty and fried hard. I was hoping to have a good fried chicken but oh well. I gave it a go. We will go back because most of the food was good. The dining room was small and really run down. Service was okay considering it was busy. Hopefully they will get a bigger place which is also more updated.

My husband and I came in for dinner and sat at the bar. We started with the cheese fritters & bacon jam. We initially thought the bacon jam was missing, but the fritters were great so we just kept eating them! When we got down to the last one, we both realized the "odd looking fritter" in the bowl that we were both avoiding, was the jam (oops!). It was a similar color and shape to the fritters but we both just laughed about avoiding it. For my entree, I was sold on the "award-winning" shrimp & grits that were featured on the Today show (as per their menu). Surprising that this meal made it that far as it didn't taste like anything special to me. It was not bad but very basic/plain; so basic that it felt like something was missing. It was the same case with my husband's meatloaf. However, I would still recommend checking this place out and deciding for yourself if you like it here ;)
