I hate to leave bad reviews, but dental work is too costly, invasive, and potentially painful to not put this out there (in addition to the current difficulty getting an emergency appointment during the coronavirus crisis). Dr. Roberts, Paige and the rest of the staff are very friendly and professional, but we experienced painful and costly experiences with them. I had a crown put on a broken tooth in February 2017 by Dr. Roberts and by May 2017 I experienced severe problems with the work that he did (bite was off, pain upon impact with other teeth and temperature sensitivity). I had to take ibuprofen multiple times per day to function. I tried to work with Dr. Roberts to have this fixed, but I ultimately ended up needing to go to another dentist to have the crown sawed off and have a root canal done and another crown put on. At that point I ceased to be a patient of Dr. Roberts. My husband stuck with Dr. Roberts and had a similar experience to another commenter when Dr. Roberts told him that he needed to have a cracked tooth repaired in late 2018. His tooth had been cracked since high school and never caused him any problems. Dr. Roberts filled the tooth and the filling fell out a few months later in May 2019 and he was in a lot of pain. He went back to Dr. Roberts, who then installed a crown. My husband has been in pain ever since then. He went back to Dr. Roberts, who removed cement around the crown, but he continues to be in pain now and has to take ibuprofen multiple times per day to function. Now we are having a lot of trouble finding an emergency dentist. Also as others mentioned, we were told to do the deep scaling as well (my husband did it, I did not). read more

Like one of the reviews below, I would warn any patient to get a second opinion before any procedures with Dr Roberts. I had a great first experience having a cleaning with Dr Roberts in 2014, so I naively listened to him about a supposedly bad crack in a left bottom molar that needed to be repaired by an onlay. I truly regret not getting a second opinion as this has been costly and painful over the last several years. The procedure was not well explained to me, was not really covered by my insurance, and I have had many follow up problems as the onlay has impacted my bite and led to intensifying TMJ and pain. When I consulted a dentist recently in NYC about why my TMJ keeps worsening, she told me that this is due to the onlay which is too high and actually coming off of my tooth at this point after just 4.5 years - they are supposed to last for more than 10 to 15 years from everything I have heard/read! I now believe this was not the right solution at all, and I would have avoided years of pain if I had simply consulted another dentist. read more

I highly recommend Dr. Roberts and his team! I've had a good experience every time I've visited the office, both for routine check-ups and other treatments. Paige at the front desk is amazing, and incredibly pleasant to work with. She is always willing and able to answer my questions, and assist me with any necessary insurance follow-up. I have visited both offices, and always appreciated the ease of booking/rescheduling appointments when needed. Dr. Roberts also provided me with a great recommendation for a local oral surgeon for wisdom teeth extraction. I was quite nervous about the procedure, and Dr. Roberts and his team were more than willing to discuss any questions or concerns I had before the procedure. If you are looking for a new dentist, I highly recommend you give Dr. Roberts a call! read more

I couldn't be happier with Dr. Roberts and his team. I have bad teeth and a lot of dental needs, and Dr. Roberts has been patient, understanding, and skilled in all the necessary treatments. I've had a good experience every time I come in the door. Paige, Eli, and the rest of the Chevy Chase staff are lovely people to know and work with, and the whole office is a place of good rapport and feeling at ease. I also hear great things from my wife about their Dupont Circle office, where Dr. Roberts also practices. I recommend Dr. Roberts to all of my friends, and you will too! If you are as nervous about dentistry as me, you definitely need to go here. Dr. Roberts is very easy with neurotic patients, and has always made sure I am comfortable and don't feel pain during a procedure. He doesn't rush or cut corners, and he has educated me about proper dental care and treatment more than any other dentist I've seen. I've been to four dentists in the DC area. From issues with insurance, to scheduling snafus, to incomplete fillings, to one dental assistant having to take 14 bitewing xrays to get it right, I've had a lot of bad experiences. Dr. Roberts is a fantastic, straightforward dentist. His team is incredible, from his hygienist (can't remember her name at the moment) to Paige, who handles the business admin and insurance. Rather than just signing and sending for insurance, Paige follows up and gets the maximum amount covered by insurance. I even have two, somewhat complicated policies, and Paige and Dr. Roberts worked as a team to make sure everything was taken care of, and that I understand what possible charges I could incur. While paying for it really is the patient's problem, Dr. Roberts and team don't show that kind of attitude. They're unreal. They've fixed previous bad dental work and left me with the strongest feeling mouth I've had in a decade: no funny spots where food gets caught, no sensitivity, and best of all, great peace of mind that I am in good hands! read more

First of all, I can't believe I'm going to say going to the dentist was a pleasure. If I had found Dr Robert's sooner I'd be a long time regular. Highly recommend. I'm a bit of a nervous and anxious person, but the environment and bed side manner were excellent. Paige at the front desk is disarming and informative. There whole staff is pleasant. They explained every step in the procedure and made me comfortable. Such a judge free place. They even let me wear my Bose QC35s during an involved prefecture. Once again, highly recommend... Especially for us nervous nellies. =) read more

OK...so I went to this dentist once before when they were in a location that was more convenient to my office. They have since moved, quite far too, almost to Chevy Chase Circle. So, after a couple calls from the office I decided to schedule an appointment for today at noon. I arrive AT noon, not a moment late, and said my "hello, I have an appointment at noon." The lady sitting in a coat closet says, "yes, I know." She was pleasant. I sat down only to wait for thirty minutes listening to an occasional air compressor, that shook the entire office, and the smell of an overpowering plug in oil air freshener. Yet again, another doctors office that thinks it's OK to over book, and make their patients wait. After 30 minutes I stood up and explained that I felt 30 minutes was long enough to wait and that I needed to go, which I did. Dr. Roberts, do you know how many dentists there are to choose from in this city? I would hope that moving froward you and your staff will learn to be more respectful to your clients time. read more

I hadn't been to a dentist in years because of a very awful experience with a dentist. That decision was to my own detriment. I decided to check Dr. Roberts after a referral from a friend. I have had some major procedures performed, and all I can say is I fully and unequivocally trust Dr. Roberts and his staff. I appreciate the run down that is given before any work is done and the alternative options that we can discuss. His dental staff is the best that I have ever had done work on me. From the time you walk into his office, Paige greets you with a smile and puts you at ease no matter what you are getting done that day. She follows up with all your appointments, making sure your there when your're supposed to be. Just the Best!!!!! I totally recommend DKR Dental- Don Roberts, DDS for any of you dental work. I saw Doctor Roberts recently and the staff wasn't very professional, and they seemed to take way too many XRays than normal. Most importantly, Dr. Roberts said I had multiple cavities (which I haven't had in 20 years and were not easy to view on the XRay) -- and when I went for a second opinion, the other Dentist said there were definitely no cavities. Would not recommend going back. read more

This place was seriously so horrible. I have never been through such a painful cleaning in my entire life. Yes, it had been a while since my last dentist appt, but I've had a significant lapse before and my cleaning was never as painful as this one at DKR was. Also what was ridiculous was that they did not even finish my cleaning, didn't even do the polish. They told me I had to schedule another appointment to finish it!! That doesn't even make sense except to take more money from me. Then, when the actual dentist came in, he told me I had 6 teeth that were on their way to cavities and told me that my next appointment needed to be for the overlay/cavity procedure AND THEN the third appointment would be for the finishing of my cleaning. This is absolutely ridiculous. And to let you know, I went to another dentist for a second opinion and he told me that my teeth were fine...and the craziest part, this is the first time I've ever had teeth sensitivity...and it's been a month since that cleaning... read more

**Run Run Run**If I could give him a zero I would. I was new to the DC area and i was trying to find a new dentist in the area. I stumbled upon dr Roberts and I went in for my routine check up. When I arrived I waited over an hour and just as I was about to leave they called me in. I was then informed that I had 3 cavities on my right side of my mouth which I was skeptical of because I had just had my routine check up 6 months prior and wasn't told that I had any teeth I needed to pay attention too or any Issues from my regular dentist. I had perfect teeth. Against my better judgement I decided that dr Roberts knew what he was doing because he was the professional and I scheduled an appointment for the cavities. I arrived for my second appointment and this time I waited about 45 mins. After the procedure was completed my mouth was still numb so I couldn't feel the pain immediately; but later that evening I began to notice that I couldn't bite on my right side and I was in severe pain ever time I would try to bite down on my right side. I then waited a couple days to see if the pain would go away but it didn't so I called dr Roberts and informed him of my situation. He then scheduled me for a follow up appointment and had to numb my right side again because he couldn't even work on my mouth without me screaming. He then informed me that my bite was off and that was the reason for my excruciating pain. After he adjusted my bite and after waiting a couple days I was still in pain but it wasn't as bad as it was previously. I called dr Roberts to let him know that I was still in pain on my right side and they fit me in again. This time he says it's possibly the gum and then says that it looks like i needed a root canal. I immiedietly left the office furious and still in pain. I contacted my insurance and they informed me to get a second opinion. Another dentist said the filling was not properly bonded but dr Roberts wanted to preform a root canal to get more money and waste more of my time. I will never return to this office and I don't recommend that anyone ever go here. read more

Great service from the dentist, hygienist and office manager. A well run and organized office. I am usually seen pretty quickly. The staff makes going to the dentist a pleasure. The cost of procedures that weren't covered by insurance were reasonable. read more
