Let me start this out by saying this would be a 5 star review if it was solely based on food and service. I enjoyed some amazing espresso martinis and a pizza. That being said I was extremely disappointed when I paid my $160 bill plus $30 tip with cash and was turned down due to their no cash policy. Which is no issue with me having a card but when I asked why this policy existed I was told it was because of the clientele they serve and that even their sister restaurant Hudson House which I also enjoy has the same policy. I find this extremely disappointing suggesting that they do not serve a poor clientele. Despite it being 2022 there are still challenges that exist with getting a bank account based on legal status, or previous financial history, or even tourists who's cards rarely work while on vacation being travelers checks to pay. It's not even advertised upon entering. The excuse that it's not your clientele being located in highland park is pretty offensive. Your staffs reply is a representation of you. Credit card processing is ~4% meaning that this business is choosing to lose that on every transaction just to make this discrimination possible. Cash has 0 fees associated with it and is a convenience to some people, instead they are choosing to exclude and inconvenience a class of people, including upper class that chooses to carry cash. This is place is absolutely incredible! I've been twice and cannot wait to go back. Literally, everyone on the staff is super personable and engaging. It's clear they thoroughly enjoy working there. But the food...The Honey truffle chicken!! Whether you have the ceasar salad or the pizza is amazing! Hands down the best pizza I've had in a long time. I had the Bees Knees drink and it was really good and I topped it off with the brownie. I wasn't sure how I would like the cherries in it but it works!!! Sad to write this review as I think the atmosphere is lovely. Their redfish was inedible and despite sending it back, we were still charged (though this was fixed once pointed out). In trying to get the correct tip change for the valet, the restaurant told us we were cashless and assured us the valet would have change. He didn't. Poorly run. Our waitress seemed more interested in her coworkers than her table. Won't be coming back anytime soon. read more

The experience was wonderful from when I first entered the restaurant all the way up until I left. I was greeted with a smile at the front door. Sat at the bar with Payton, he made me a delicious margarita and made me feel very welcome. I placed a Togo order of smoked salmon and boy was it amazing! The toast was crispy and melted in your mouth, the sauce was also very tasty. I just wish the portion size was a little bigger to match the price. The ambiance was lovely very clean and polished. Went on a Monday night. It was busy with a 30 min wait for a table but we were able to get seats at the bar and opted to eat there. The McCarthy salad was fabulous. They are the most unaccommodating restaurant. First they will not accept a reservations far in advance for their 6 top table. Very annoying. 2nd, unlike their counterpart Hudson House they absolutely will not do ANY substitutions unless it's for an up charge. Also if you order a Diet Coke it comes in a tiny little glass bottle for $3. Absurd. They also charge $2 for extra marinara for the mozzarella sticks. Comes across as nickel and diming. Also, The last time I went someone threw their glass of wine at their spouse which went all over me and all over the floor under me and not one staff or manager did anything about it. Probably the worst experiences I have had at a Vandelay Restaurant (we are frequent at Brentwood/Hudson House/Drakes). First time guests and they were out of almost every single menu item at our 6:30pm reservation. At one point told us they only had one salmon fillet left, after several people had ordered and asked "if we wanted to pick who gets it". 30 minutes later the server comes back to our table to tell us they are completely out. Every item we tried to order after that was not available. We ordered several wine glasses for the table and they only brought out one. When I mentioned that he had forgotten my glass of rose, he just said "oh" and never bothered to bring it by. We had guests in town and was very excited to try the place out, it was almost comical they would keep their doors open with such a food shortage. Never again. read more

Not very accommodating and the Manager was rude. My friend ordered a Cesar Salad and a side of chicken tenders. They brought her the salad and a side of the cut up chicken they would have put into a Chicken Cesar salad. The waitress explained they couldn't do a side of chicken tenders. I said to the waitress come on just bring her a side of chicken tenders.. it's on the menu by the way... She literally sends the Manager over who told us she couldn't make it. Went in for happy hour special 12/28. Their website lists cheeseburger on happy hour. PDF happy hour menu lists pizza but regular happy hour menu lists cheeseburger. We decided based on what was listed on their own website. We wanted to get a drink and share a cheeseburger to try place out. Never been here but have been to Hudson House a few times. Asked bartender where the happy hour cheeseburger was. He said that was old and website hasn't been updated. Explained that is why we came in and would he still honor it. Without hesitation it was no. Then stated we can't enter in the ordering system that way, no way to do it. Did not ask the manager, did not act concerned that a possible customer was frustrated that they do not honor what is on their own website. We walked out and no one from this establishment cared or tried to get us to stay. Bartender was obnoxious and rude the entire time there. Disappointed and took our money somewhere else and do not plan on going back. Thanks for the hospitality! read more

The first couple times we went, I wasn't impressed. However, the pizza has gotten a lot better and they have added some great dishes. You will have a great experience if you order right. To be honest, I would avoid the fries and chicken strips. Chicken strip recipe really needs to be changed and fries are always a little too burnt. The Harry caray is the way to go for pizza (or just cheese and a couple toppings). Pizza is perfectly crisp and the spicy ranch is honestly one of the best I've ever had. The spicy lumachi pasta is AMAZING. Granted, there is a little bit more going on than just the typical spicy rigatoni, but it's way way better than the overpriced Carbone version. Highly recommend that dish and hopefully they don't take it off the menu! Vibes here are great too. Usually you can get in during the week as a walk in which is great. Pizza was meh. I get that they want to be inventive with their pizzas but I personally value traditionally tasting pizzas. Their sauce on the pepperoni pizza is weird and their pizza with chicken tenders is atrocious, sticky, and hard to eat. Service is phenomenal! read more

DL Macks definitely has an "old school" Chicago vibe. Very nice bar too with friendly & patient service. DL Macks is also really clean. We designed our own pizza & it was not what we expected(crust) but it was delicious. Unlike most Dallas pizza places, they use excellent quality toppings that seem like they're made "in house". Other menu pizzas going out of the kitchen looked fantastic. We also got the Club Sandwich & that was a fail. Not a traditional club sandwich, bread was greasy from the grill top & the deli meats were processed, NOT in house made. The super sweet spread they put on overwhelms the entire sandwich, we will not be getting that next trip. The garlic potato wedges came out cold, we let the bartender know. They whisked out a delicious new plate of them, fantastic flavor. DL Macks is a great option in an area of Dallas that has very few decent restaurants. read more

They claim that their pizza is "Chicago style." I'm not from Chicago but I have been there many times and all I know is that their claim to fame for Chicago pizza is deep dish. This is not deep dish. It is cracker thin pizza. They have some interesting options and I opted for their pepperoni pizza. It was extremely salty. I had to ask our waitress four times for a side of ranch and still never got it. Pretty sure this is just going to be a divorcée hang out in the Park Cities because it has a good vibe and a nice bar. I just want people to be warned that the bar tenders try to rip you off! It is very busy at the bar and there is a lot of staff working behind the bar. One person takes your order, someone else rings you up etc. I ordered a ranch water with casamigos tequila. A bill appears in the glass in front of me which I assume is mine and if I had just thrown my credit card down without looking I would have paid for around $50 in drinks. I told the bar tender this was not my bill. He brings another bill back and I am charged $20 for one ranch water. I asked one of the bar tenders why they charge so much for casamigos? My drink was more expensive than any of the signature drinks and wine on the drink menu. He said oh sorry and gave the bill to someone else and they changed the price. Still expensive but had I not been paying attention I would have paid a lot more - twice! Very sketchy! Be sure and check your bill at the bar especially! I will not be going back! read more

This addition to the Dallas scene is fabulous. Since it's only been open a couple weeks, they are still ironing out the kinks, but we had a fantastic dinner. It was super crowded on a Friday night, so we ordered a drink and hung at the bar. Luckily a couple left and voila, we had seats. Shane and Conner were attentive to us and the place was buzzing. We ordered the avo and chips. DELICIOUS! House made chips were awesome. We didn't order the pizza because we have eaten them before at Drake's. I wanted to check out the other items on the menu. For dinner we had the redfish which came with a Caesar salad. I did not really care for the dressing, it was very lemony and I consider myself a Caesar expert. We also ordered the steak fries and that was the highlight of the night. The were super crispy on the outside and when I bit into it , it was like puffy pillows of mashed potatoes inside. So amazing. What a great start to a new restaurant. I love all their restaurants for different reasons, but, I'm looking forward to heading back soon. read more
