Normally I have an outstanding experience here and their wine is delicious which is why the 4 star and not lower. But this time they were closing early for a wedding and doing all the prep for that while trying to serve customers. The poor staff serving the wine tastings were frazzled from being pulled in multiple directions. We had to wait a long time before being served and longer in between pours. I would suggest that next time you host an event like that you close earlier or shut down for the day. It was not a pleasant experience for customers and it appeared the wedding party arrived early too and they would have had more space to relax and enjoy their special day if there were no customers around. But again... I usually have an excellent experience! Wine selection is amazing!! The staff are so knowledgeable and friendly. And the setting and ambience amazing! They have fun events throughout the year. You must go Halloween weekend and get a Taro reading! We had so much fun last year. And they have great deals on wines. I suggest going just not on a day they are closing early for an event. read more

I took a Friday off to go wine tasting with a friend who has access to the Wine Club members benefits at Dobbe's Family Wines. We arrived for our 12 pm appointment only to find out that not only did she forget to hit finalize on the reservation but our charcuterie board wasn't ordered. Luckily, Matt, our gracious wine pourer or his official title, Lead Hospitality Ambassador, was able to accommodate our misssteps. Every time we come back to Dobbes it has a small vineyard feel despite being such a BIG place. I love how the staff stays consistent. I love the events and themes. The spring hat event was super fun. I hadn't expected to drop the money on the hat but my daughter rocked it and she can have it forever and it's always going to hold the memory of that beautiful spring day!! I was honestly not too impressed with any of the featured wines but I did love the 18 Iibrary wine lol. Expensive taste runs in the family! They have live music here as well on certain days which I will definitely have to return for. My boyfriend and I had a great time at this winery! We stumbled upon the website and noticed that for July, they're offering free tastings :) That's a no-brainer for us. The ambiance is relaxing yet refined. We loved that so many brought their dogs! We are visiting from Honolulu, HI and are probably moving to the Seattle Area next year and will keep this place in mind when we move with our pup as a fun getaway from the city. Matt was our server and he was very knowledgeable not only about the wines from Dobbes but other general wine questions we had. We aren't fancy wine folk (yet), but we do like to learn more every time we go out. The wine was great and we walked away purchasing a bottle of Chardonnay. My boyfriend loved that it wasn't very buttery like some other Chards. We would've bought one of their Pinot noirs but we are very limited on bag space. We'll be back :) read more

Stopped by while I was in Portland for a little late birthday trip and absolutely fell in love with This winery is located about 45 minutes away from downtown Portland near some train tracks. Although the weather was gloomy and cold, the outdoor space created by Dobbes was warm and absolutely gorgeous. They even brought out an extra space heater because they saw I was a little chilly. As for wine, we tried the flight offered at the time and I fell in love with the grenache blac so much so that we ended up purchasing two bottles to take back with us. Dobbs Family Estate has a fun, more casual vibe than your typical winery. On every one of our trips, particularly to wine country, I try my best to have very different experiences. Don't get me wrong, I love the big winery experience, but there is also nothing like going to that tiny farm where you feel like you've just rolled up to someone's house. It makes the experience that more fun for us. Founded in 2002, Dobbs Family Estate makes wines that are true to their varietal character and that exude the best of Oregon, including Pinot Noir and other varietals from Oregon's Willamette and Rogue Valleys. Winemaker Andy McVay set out to make wines that support the three pillars of his love of winemaking -- combining art, science and agriculture. We weren't particularly hungry yet, but definitely were tempted by the food pairings including cheese and charcuterie plates, olives and other snacks. Wine tastings are just $25 per person and the tasting fee is waved with a 2 bottle purchase. The spot is a slice of Oregon wine country at its best, with high quality wines recognized 90 points and above by many major wine publications. We had an amazing experience here. We had some time between the last vineyard we went to and dinner so we took a chance and called Dobbes to see if they could fit our party of 5 in. They said if we came in the next ten minutes and we did! Cat was our host and her knowledge of all the wines was impressive and she felt so sincere and down to earth. Her timing of each pour was perfect and honestly everyone we interacted with was very friendly. We felt very welcome and I can't wait to return. I ended up getting a bottle of the Sundown Vineyard Syrah (which I thought I didn't like Syrahs but this one changed my mind!) and the Symonette Vineyard Pinot Noir. We came because of a recommendation from a friend, as we typically like to visit vineyards, but WOW am I happy we came! From the start, the service was incredible. We were poured a "welcome" glass of sparking wine that was perfectly balanced. I loved the micro-bubbles that came from the forced carbonation. Each of the wines we tasted were awesome. The server, Sarah, was fantastic and knew so much about the wines! She was patient with us while we wrangled a jet-lagged toddler and made us laugh a few times too! The seating area was spacious, modern, and even had a yurt type area to lounge in, as well as a more private space toward the back. We ended up purchasing two bottles, the Dux and Shiraz (which is now limited, so get it while you can!). It was great learning about the history of the wines and estate in general. Sarah made it sound like a story and not a rehearsed spiel like you get some places. We also purchased a cheese and charcuterie board that was very tasty and worth the price ($25), as it came with two cheeses, a salami, hazelnuts, jam, and a ton of olives! We became wine club members on our first visit to the Dobbes Family winery. The tasting room is beautiful, upscale without feeling formal. Toni Harris greeted us upon our arrival and guided us through the tasting menu. She told us great stories about the winemaker and his family and how winery has evolved. We sat outside in the covered patio and enjoyed the birds that flitted around us in the trees. Order the charcuterie plate with your tasting, you won't be sorry. Located in Dundee, the place is surrounded by great eateries, as well as other equally as good wineries. As a native Californian, Dobbes Family Estate (and the quaint town of Dundee) remind me of what the Napa Valley used to be like before it became commercialized and full of itself. Dobbes is a great little locals secret. We recently went to a wine club "Octoberfeast" pickup event and found it to be very well organized and fun considering how many people were there (and I'm not a "crowds" person at all). A few days ago we worked with Matt, the tasting room manager, to have a shipment of Pinot Noirs sent to family in California for Christmas. I had a bit of trouble with online ordering but Matt took care of us quickly and the wine is now on it's way. We love to take visiting family and friends to Dobbes too. Their Dobbes wines were enjoyed by all of us and we took 2 bottles home in our wine suitcase and drank 3 while we were in Oregon. They always "teach" me about the wine without being pretentious, tell me about the wine without being too technical, and then just have fun engaging with us. Bottom Line Up Front (BLUF): Don't go to this winery. There is a huge variety and selection of different wineries that you can go to in Dundee, Dayton, Carlton, Yamhill, McMinnville etc! It would probably not be too difficult to find a place that would have better- view, warmer & more hospitable wine Associates & staff. I've been twice to this winery. The first time was Jan. 17, 2016. I do admit, we did go with a group of 7 people that day, and we did not call ahead as a courtesy call to inform them we would be a large group. So, with their perception, I could see why the winery would not be that friendly to our group. But, it was not like they were Super busy on that Sunday at around 11am, I think there another couple there, but besides that we were the only people there. But, the Associates did not really have an overly charming personality, or knowledge about the wines. It was mainly mediocre winery, but since my dad happened to mention hearing about this winery a couple of years ago, and they were in town. We figured we would take them there and check it out. We went to Dobbes Estate on Sunday 4/09/2017 with my husband, and my parents. The visit inititally went well. We walked through the tasting room and found our way to the tented area, with a heated lamps. My Mom, nominated to order a bottle of wine and split it, on the estate grounds. She selected the Syrah. I personally did not especially-like this specific wine, it was an Oak & Steel Barrel aged blend, and it tasted sharp. I think I prefer 100% oak, or 100% steel barrels, but not a hybrid, personally. So, I did have 3 sips of that bottle to try it, but it was not my preference. So, I actually sat that bottle out. Then, I went inside and asked for 1 tasting flight. I had a weird interaction their with one of the associates, who referred me to the specific associate that was serving my family-in the patio. I'm not sure what his name is, but for the rest of this review I will refer to him as Ed. So, again, to give the winery the benefit of the doubt **YES, for the sake of the story, I did grab one door, but it was the "wrong" door, and it did not work, so I giggled a little and played it off, but I would have done that completely Sober. That is independent of my BAC. Regardless, Ed followed me outside, and checked the volume of the wine left in the bottle and determined by that point that he didn't feel comfortable serving us any more. We did mention ordering a 2nd bottle to split at the establishment, after I ordered a flight to see which wine I would have liked-- since I didn't especially care for the wine that my Mom blindly picked out initially. So it is undefined if that volume left was too much, or too little, or how it played a role, but he did not let me get a tasting flight at the winery. And, the thing was I would have respected "Ed's" judgement call, if our group was actually Inebriated. But, in all honestly, this is the most sober I have ever been while wine tasting, and my whole group was collectively. We started out the day by going to a Member's/Wine Club pick-up party at a Winery in Carlton, that was paired with yummy bites of food along the way. Then, we went for a hike at Harvey Creek Trail, and walked my dog around the park. After that we went to The Market for Yummy pizza, and I did split a pint of beer with my husband. So, I did have some alcohol, but not as much as I typically would as a day at wine tasting. We still made it over to Dobbes by 2:45 initially. And, when I asked for the wine tasting at 4:11, which was denied, as well as our request for a 2nd bottle to split. It wasn't like my family chugged a bottle of wine in 10 minutes or anything either! And, it wasn't like they were concerned that we were taking too long to drink the bottle, because a group of 4 came in about 10 minutes after that incident, and then another small group of 3 came in about 4:40 pm and there was no hesitations from the winery staff to serve tasting flights and bottles! So, either "Ed" needs to take his wine-serving/OLCC classes as far as judging alcoholic levels in people; or learn how to not discriminate people based on what they are wearing, or if they choose to bring snacks and hang out at wineries? I'm not sure what the red flag was for "Ed" at Dobbes Estate and it's just ironic that I have never been "cut off" ever in my life, and that was not even valid, so it is aggravating. I will not be going to this winery ever again, and I will not recommend it to anyone, I will recommend the countless other wineries in the valley. And, if they find it tacky for people to bring their own foods/snacks and picnic in, then they should post clear rules prohibiting or actually sell food on the grounds. read more

We arrived an hour before closing so they would not offer a tasting, which was king of strange. They did offer some complimentary sparkling wine and suggested I could buy a glass. No prices anywhere for that but okay. The glass was two portions of a tasting and the dregs of a bottle and my bill was shockingly high for what I was offered. I feel like perhaps at a different time with different staff, I would have had a much better experience. I did like the setting and I've heard good things, so I will likely come back in the future, but this visit was very disappointing. read more
