If you're looking for a hefty, delicious salad - look no further. And I don't mean one of those sad, stingy, iceberg lettuce type salads with half a tomato plopped on top. Was in Chicago for a conference at the Marriott across the street from Doc B's. When I checked in I asked the front desk person for dinner recommendations and Doc B's was first on her list. Got there about 8pm and the place was empty - probably because it was -7 degrees with wind chill. The server who took my to go order was really pleasant and genuine, not the fake kind. We were welcomed in and sat down on a Friday around one. I sat on the couch side and the fabric lining was very stained and gross. Their menu has a wonderful variety to choose from. For drinks we tried the crazy beautiful and the beetlejuice. The drinks were tasty but way overpriced in my opinion. They cost as much as the appetizers but that's downtown chicago for ya. The server recommended the chimichurri wings and after trying them, we highly recommend these too!! Their chimichurri is very fresh and vinegar'y. Topped with the reggiano, the wings were perfect! I was craving Chinese food but didn't want something too heavy, so the wok out bowl sounded perfect for me. You get to personalize your sauce, protein and grain which I really liked. I went with the steak, teriyaki and lo mein noodle and it was so tasty!! The one thing I wished was for the teriyaki sauce to be more of a glaze. The sauce was a little soupy at the bottom and didn't stay on my bites of food as well, so I didn't get a ton of flavor from it. Fantastic brunch spot. On a nice day they open up the windows to the outside and the place has a nice airy feel. Service was very friendly and everything came out fast. We had the Knife and Fork Cobb and Quinoa Kitchen Salad and when we told them we wanted to share them they were kind enough to bring them out already split in halves. Even half portions of each were plenty to feed two of us. The friend chicken in the Cobb salad was tender and moist, not dry at all. Staff was fantastic we were sat right away at 8 on a sat night. We were looking at the menu had a few questions and our server was great about answering them. I landed on the Cajun chicken sandwich and my friend ordered the chicken Parmesan. The chicken came out and was huge. And came with a side of pasta. It was very good there was none left. Went for dinner today trying to decide what to get. I'm an adventurous eater, but limited due to sesame and nut allergies. I got Doc B's Carnitas Sandwich made with slow roasted pork, coleslaw, pickle & a thick onion ring with bbq. Served with a choice of sides, I also opted for their cole slaw. Holy smokes!! The sandwich came out and it was humongous! The person I was with laughed cuz it was a LOT. I ended up downing their fabulous cole slaw... cuz I love theirs, and was only able to eat a 1/4 of the sandwich. Believe me, if I could have eaten it all, I would have. I asked to box it up, and I prefer when the have compostable boxes for the environment. So happy they use them. The place was quite busy at 2pm on a very cool-weather Sunday. I love Doc B's but one of the reasons I did not go there a lot was because I did not think they had a loyalty program. How happy was I today when they had a little QR code tent on table to scan and join their reward club. Plus, they will give you $10 after your first purchase and $10 on your birthday. Just hook the paying credit card and I'm told the points will land in the account connected. Love that they handled my food allergies without worry too. I had no problem whatsoever! I felt very welcome to eat there, unlike my experience yesterday at a high-end restaurant in Chicago Gold Coast where their uneasiness made me feel uneasy. As of today's date, April 16, 2023, the sandwich with cole slaw (or fries) was $19. Tax 2.23 (11.75% rate). Total $21.23...no surcharges, no add-on for employee pension fund (which someone told me even the new high-end LeSelect is adding to their customer checks). They staff was very friendly and were able to recommend options for us to try. The space is open and has a good amount of seating. I never wanted to review a restaurant so badly to praise someone until today! My boyfriend and I were hungry and in the area and we ended up stopping by. I've been to both locations once before and had a good experience and wanted to stop by again. I didn't expect for our waiter, Eli F, to give the best service ever! He was super sweet and even accommodated for me when I asked if they had flavored lemonade. I was surprised to get a refill as soon as I finished my drink since he was that on point today! He was always checking up on us and let us get the bill as soon as we finished... which is something that takes us almost 10 minutes or more at other places! We did go at an off-hour (4:30) so the restaurant was not very packed. But I just appreciated how we were treated so much that I had to make sure he got praised! I felt embarrassed to ask for his name so he could get credit so I was glad I saw it on the receipt haha. The food itself was pretty good as I got The Wedge and I devoured it! My boyfriend got the Backyard burger which he enjoyed, but it did have a heaping amount of unmelted shredded cheese on it. If it were melted it would have been perfect! Another of these River North places that's overpriced but you can't deny the food is fucking good. Doc B's actually has two locations around here. It has this one on Grand Avenue, a nice little place. Find something for almost everyone. There's things like burgers, rice bowls, and salads. First time here and we weren't sure if it would be fancy. It certainly looks pretty nice inside but it's pretty casual and more like a bar with a much better menu. The prices make it seem like it's fancy though. Be careful. You could spend some big bucks here. As a result we took it easy on the drinks. Only some domestic bottles for us. It has a few vegetarian choices. There's not a lot but it has something. I got a Wok Out Bowl, and she did too but with different stuff in it. It's $17, enough said. Whatever's in this isn't worth all that. It has your choice of protein. We each got tofu. Next you choose grains. She had brown rice and I had quinoa. It also comes with a sauce choice. The best one is the Sweet And Spicy Thai. Broccoli, carrots, cashews, and mushrooms are among the vegetables in the bowls. These aren't real big but they pack these about full. Good place for those who like wok bowls. It has many ingredients you choose including the proteins. The prices are high but you get good Asian fusion and it's actually kind of a lot in these. read more
