STAY AWAY!!! I'm perplexed at how this place stays in business. And who knows, maybe it's a front for a different store type if you know what I mean. I got asked if I wanted a chicken patty for the chicken sandwich. Who goes to a bbq place for a gross mechanically made chicken patty? I want some good bbq smoked chicken on bread. Being the literal only person to enter the store after 30min, you'd think they'd be happy about a customer around lunchtime, but the exact opposite was felt. It was as if I inconvenienced them by coming in to order food. No "hi", no "how ya doin". And the significant amount of flies buzzing around inside made me want to walk out and forget about my order. I also ordered the baked potato and was told it would be 20min for it. 40 minutes later, she finally comes out with the food. I'd steer clear of this place if you can. It seemed there was a bbq / Mexican place down the street. Try them instead! Customer service= rude, the place is disgusting, the food was barely edible & even to pay took another 10minutes bc she didn't know how to work the credit card machine. read more

Not impressed. Could it have been what I ordered? Maybe. When you have the word BBQ in your name though you had better come to slay. The good: The owner was really kind and accommodating. He offers a chicken special on Tuesdays where you get 4 wings and a roll for $5. The chicken was fresh and very lightly seasoned. I DID like that the coating was not overly floured. The bad and ugly: Sheesh...so my BIGGEST complaint is that the food was not fresh. I ordered the two meat plate with ribs and sausage...over a day old. The bbq sauce does not cover the fact that the meat was not cooked that day. Speaking of which, ask for sauce on the side. Everyone does not like any kind of bbq sauce. Additionally, the cucumber salad was not fresh. The greens may have been ok, but I can't say since cucumber salad juice mixed in with them. Ugh! My partner got the smothered chicken with greens, yams , and forgot what other side he had. We were STARVING and neither of us ate even half our food. This place is fairly new and we set out to look for it as I had heard of it on a Facebook feed. Upon entering, we were greeted by the owner with a warm and friendly hello. We ordered and our food was quickly ready to eat. The place has limited seating and is mainly carry out. The meat, ribs and brisket, were perfectly smoked with a very astute sauce on them and potato salad was different from the usual that you find at other BBQs and very tasty. I went via the drive thru and ordered the oxtail plate. Now, before I start, some folks like fatty oxtail and some like a leaner cut. I was raised on a fattier oxtail, so I did enjoy the oxtails over a bed of rice. The cabbage and collard greens were so simple and so good!! And the candied yams were also simple and delicious. Since it wasn't busy, he offered the option of hot water cornbread or jiffy cornbread, so I definitely opted for hot water cornbread. The portions we big, so take that into consideration on the price. For two orders of the oxtail plates, a small koolaid and a small sweet tea, it's was $36. The koolaid wasn't remarkable, but I do like my koolaid on the sweet side. It didn't taste like koolaid to me, maybe an off brand, but I didn't ask. read more

I love to eat here! I have to be honest, it bad for your waistline. Tuesday and Thursday wing specials can't be beat for the price. Service is not the fastest, but it's Willie on his own and he's making the food fresh. Willie always has a smile and does everything to make his customers happy. If isn't right, he will make it right. His food is always of quality. I will say sometimes consistently in his recipe can get the best of him, but I always leave fat, dumb and happy. This place is the bomb diggity for pork ribs, beef brisket and smothered chicken! The smoky flavor was out of this world. And whatever spices they use are spot on! We stopped in for take out and were treated with such warm hospitality. The couple that runs this place really aims to please. Everything was delicious including the sides (collards & cabbage, Mac n cheese, cole slaw, fried okra and sweet potatoes that were SO flavorful yet not drenched in syrup. Everything was SO good that we couldn't pick a favorite! All I know is we will be back to try the pork chops, ox tail, meatballs and fried catfish. I came for the oxtails and was highly disappointed. The cuts of meat were bad and they had a TONNN of fat on them. They don't seem like they are seasoned all that well either. For 16$ a plate, I was expecting something better. The fried okra is good though, as well as the Kool aid! read more

I called in a order and gave them 20mins before i got there which i was told it was already ready because "its a bbq place". So when i got there i waited 30mins and our food wasn't even fresh, then on top of all that i had ordered a root beer, sprite, and sweet tea which all came in bottled containers which i was not informed of. MOST PLACES have fountain drinks. But theres was bottled and SMALL size at that. This is THE WORST place to buy anything BECAUSE of the price, quality of food, and customer service. Oh my. We were here from Oregon and not familiar with the area. Due to Covid some restaurants were open some weren't. When I called this restaurant I was tired and ready to be done. They were so helpful on the phone and when I arrived I was very releaved. The food she recommended was amazing. I was sorry when I was finished the meal as I wanted to keep eating. We love Willie G's, everything we've eaten there was absolutely incredible. We've ordered the oxtail plate, brisket sandwich, chili cheese fries, and catfish. We have been so impressed at the variety. I don't even like catfish and I was stealing pieces off of my husbands plate. A lot of places make one thing well and Willie G's makes everything great. I ordered the chopped beef sandwich on my first visit. It was better than I expected. It wasn't just a bunch of leftover fatty pieces like some places serve. It was lean and very flavorful. I had dill pickles and onions on the side and they were very fresh, not dried out from sitting in a metal tray for several hours. Overall, I was very pleased and will certainly return to try some of the other menu items. The owner is very friendly. Seating is very limited so it might be best to just do carry out. By far some of the best and most authentic soul food I have eaten in a very long time. It's definitely southern comfort at its finest. Willie is the nicest man you will have the pleasure to meet. He cooks everything himself to order so you know it's fresh and cooked with pride. The fried fish is simply perfection on a plate, the chicken wings have a crispness with a touch of spice on the outside and a juiciness on the inside you expect, and the oxtail will remind you of Sunday lunch at your grandmothers that puts a smile on your face and full stomach. I wouldn't dismiss his sides either. The cornbread is like a piece of heaven on a plate and goes so well with his well with his seasoned cabbage & greens. The cucumber and tomato salad brought me back to my childhood along with his flavorful yams. If you get a chance though try his potato salad too it's a flavor beyond words. All in all there isn't anything that Willie cooks that isn't good. This man knows his soul food guys. He's also the friendliest and most hard working restaurant owner I've met in Lufkin in a while.
