Doc's has been a routine stop for us for a few years now as we make our way thru Marble Falls in route to Lake Travis. Since the restaurant is dog friendly, it's a perfect mid way point in our trip to stop and have dinner with the company of our furry friend. Add in the friendly staff which we always seem to have and you will leave feeling special and like you yourself grew up in a small Texas town. We enjoy the relaxed atmosphere inside and chatting it up with the locals. On this Friday night, live music filled the air and it made for a lovely evening. Loud, but not loud enough to distract from our own conversations. There is a good selection of seafood & steaks entrees. In particular, try the different kinds of shrimp dishes even if it is just a side adder to your main entree. The size of the portions are just big enough to leave satisfied even without dessert. This review is solely for the crawfish and the service. I ordered 2 lbs... it was brown when it came out. It was so soggy and so mushy and just waterlogged. $14.99lb on sale for $12.99lb. The cheese curds were sooooo very greasy! I mean not drained at all. Just thrown into the basket and brought out to us. I was going to ask for something else, but the server never came back to see if everything was alright or if we needed anything. That right there told me they knew it was no good and just didn't want to deal with it. So I waited for hubs to finish his meal, paid the ticket and just decided we would never go back. In town visiting our daughter and wanted to try Doc's. Tuesday night plenty of parking out front. Asked for a booth in the bar. Glad we did because Leann took excellent care of us. I had their blackened catfish with dirty rice and coleslaw. Very good. Wife had a pork chop with baked potato and green beans. Everything was good. Daughter had two types of shrimp- okay but not the best she had before. She had hers blackened and grilled- I'm thinking maybe getting fried shrimp might have been a better choice. This place we found while roaming around for place to eat following a martial arts competition. We were very happy we stumbled upon it. By the way marble falls is gorgeous! The calamari and Brussel sprouts were so great. Some of the best we've ever had. The gumbo was confusing and disappointing. The twist didn't work. The onion spinner was delicious as well! I will start with the important points: * the food was incredible, * the service was exceptional, * the live music was great! Now for some details: There are some common issues I have had in the past with getting a steak cooked the way I like it. If the steak is thinner, it can become a piece of leather; if the steak is thicker, it can still be mushy . I have never, let me repeat: NEVER had either problem at Doc's! I have settled on their marinated steak, which in my experience is slightly more difficult to cook. Each time it has been fabulous! I have picked it even on nights when the prime rib was available. Last night's steak was so soft and tender that using the knife was unnecessary. I, personally, do not like seafood. I have been in places where the smell of their seafood caused my appetite to vanish completely. Haydee, on the other hand, really likes it. That can cause problems with most restaurants where I order some "real food," and she gets something seafood related. Fortunately, the seafood selections at Doc's are fresh enough and fixed well enough that it has never been a problem. In fact, they have looked and smelled good enough that I have been tempted to ask for a bite of it. Especially the fettuccine. Her favorite, so far, has been the blackened fish. As for the service, everything about it last night was exceptional! I have never been there when it was as crowded as it was last night. We got what looked like the last open parking spot. Since this is one of those places that I WOULD be willing to wait for my food, we went in thinking it would just take a while. That was absolutely NOT the case! The wait staff were cool and efficient and took care of everyone in a timely fashion. Having never been back in their kitchen area, I cannot comment on what it looked like back there, but the results says they were just as capable and efficient! When they have to clean a table so you can sit, that normally means things are just gonna take a little bit longer than normal. We did not sense that at all. The live music was possibly the best we have had there. They bring in a wide variety of folks, so every time is a little different. I actually quite appreciate that fact. All of them have been good and entertaining. However, last night was the best one we have seen, hands-down. All in all, Doc's is the best restaurant we have been to in the Marble Falls area, and last night was the most sublime proof of why! We're still looking for our 'go to place' for BBQ, but for everything else, we've happily settled on Doc's! read more

We used to come here when visiting my in-laws. Saw that it was under new ownership and a few negative reviews. Folks...things change. Owners retire, etc. so we decided to go if nothing else to just see what had changed. We came around 7:00 pm and it was not very busy...another red flag. Well...service was excellent and attentive. The food was amazing! We used to come here for the catfish and shrimp. Well let me say that both got the catfish and shrimp combo. It was perfect. The breading was just right and both were delicious. And my wife and I commented that the corn on the cob might be the best we have ever had. Don't know if it was the freshness or what but it was great as well. Prices seemed reasonable for what you get. So let me just say if you have a hankering for good seafood don't hesitate and give them a shot! read more

First time here but no question we will be back. We went simply because of the name. It was a Friday evening and it wasn't hard to get a place to park. Inside, it's a bit rustic and much of what is in the place has probably been in place since restaurant was built. We are big fans of "peel-n-eat" shrimp and honestly, that was the first thing we looked for on the menu. It's actually not very common but that was the selling point. We came a bit later and there was plenty of parking. Our server was Megan and she was very friendly and attentive. We were set on the peel and eat shrimp so that was first on the order. When she brought it out, she cautioned the horse radish was a bit spicier than most; she wasn't joking! I love spicy and this is amazing. They seem to use Old Bay seasoning and the shrimp were good... but not as good as we hoped. I'm not sure if the shrimp were overcooked or just not fresh shrimp. We are new to the area and everywhere we have been they serve this amazing fresh Texas gulf shrimp; I'm not sure if this was but if it was fresh shrimp, it was overcooked which is easy to do with peel-n-eat. That all being said, we wouldn't hesitate to order again and we will the next time. They menu has quite a few offerings of steak and seafood but just to keep it simple, we went with the Camp Burger and to mine, I added blue cheese crumbles. And for a side, I did the baked potato (loaded). It wasn't long after we finished the shrimp she brought out our burgers. These are full size burgers and it looked like fresh ground beef; not some frozen patties. They ran out of lettuce and threw on some spinach. It comes with pickle, tomato and onion. And on the side, they provide mustard and mayonnaise. You know it's a great burger when you don't put any condiments at all on the burger and rare if the time when I don't put any condiments on. But this burger is so flavorful, you don't need to, and really shouldn't, put any condiments on this burger. For dessert, we had the cheesecake and honestly, some of the BEST cheesecake I've ever had. We even went back a few days later just to get some cheesecake. It's a fun place and the food is pretty good. Definitely worthwhile trying and you really can't go wrong. read more

As a local, I am happy with the new owner / management. The restaurant is a lot cleaner and service has improved. I like that they kept the old menu items while offering some different new items/specials. I wouldn't be opposed to seeing a new menu though. I have always enjoyed the onion spinner and the pan fried tilapia so that is what I ordered. One of the specials was a cheese-steak, that's all I can remember. We also got a hurricane and it was very good, on par or better than some I have had in New Orleans. The sweet tea tasted fresh and you can tell they clean the tea containers out nightly. My husband and I couldn't finish all of our food. The portions for both appetizers and main entrees were huge! One entree could easily feed 2. Prices were very reasonable. (Cheaper than the Applebee's we ate at the night prior) Our waitress was sweet and funny as well as very attentive. Mrs. and I visited last Saturday evening, being in Marble Falls for a nice weekend. A few folks said the food was good. Folks can be wrong. Entering the place, there were ten couples in the main dining, and this was 7 PM on a weekend. That should have been a red flag for us. We chose to sit in the bar and listen to live music, which turned out to be barely alive. The entertainment was a granny in a cowboy hat, strumming a guitar and singing songs we had never heard, and she had her small dog sitting on stage with her. We thought this was an America's Got Talent thing, but nope, just a well-behaved pooch. The waitress, who was also the bartender, got my order wrong and told me to eat it anyway, and she would bring me a few shrimp. She took it back after I asked a few times. My wife's Broccoli soup was a disgusting Captain Bligh's gruel, and she almost hurled after tasting it. My shrimp salad wasn't much better, wilted leafy weeds with half-cooked shrimp. The margaritas were nice and icy, but they only had a few drops of tequila, another violation of Texas tradition. All that said, we don't plan to go back, and it's clear that this is now a tourist trap since it's on the main drag. Locals and folks with active taste buds wouldn't go back a second time. read more
