I was in Mount Airy visiting family and we decided to try Dodge City Steakhouse for dinner. I ordered the 12-ounce ribeye steak, asking for it medium rare, but it came out more like medium well. Unfortunately, it didn't have much flavor, which was a bit disappointing. I also got a side salad--nothing special, but it was fresh and good (hard to mess up a salad). I ordered an unsweet iced tea, but what I got was so light it was almost clear--tasted more like water than tea. On a positive note, our server Gary was excellent--friendly, attentive, and probably the best part of the experience. I wouldn't rule this place out entirely; I might give it another shot in the future, hoping for a better steak next time. read more

Almost didn't eat here due to the low rating. Read the reviews and concluded it was the service not the food, so gave it a chance. And I'm glad I did. Management heard the complaints and changed the staff. Our food and service was excellent. Don't judge someone during their worst moment, judge them after giving them a second chance. Walked up and waiting for 5 minutes to be seated although the restaurant only had about 3 tables of people. Once we were seated, we waited another 15 minutes before someone came to ask about drinks. We asked if we could go ahead and order and the waitress had to go back to the kitchen to get her notepad. Once ordered, food took nearly 40 minutes to come out. By then, my lunch break was over and I barely had a chance to eat. I ordered the pork chops which were over seasoned and undercooked. The ribs that my friend ordered were tough and the bbq sauce tasted a bit sour. The only thing I enjoyed were the warm rolls. This is sadly the third time we've had poor service and food. My family started going to this restaurant when it first opened. It has been great and its had its downfalls with their food. I do believe its all about who is cooking... We went here yesterday 11/03/2024 and there was a new waitress that we havent seen before. She seemed nice HOWEVER she seemed like she really did not want to be there. It wasnt busy when we went yet she gave off a vibe of being bothered.. I was absolutely disgusted at the glass i received.. i circled in photo... dried food on 2 spots on the inside of it. I had to ask another waitress for a new cup because our waitress was mia.... it was just gross!! We didnt get asked if we needed re-fills.. we didn't get asked how things were.. And i was a bit preturbed to see another waitress waiting on her own child and husband/boyfriend and constantly at their table rather than doing her rounds to help those in her group. Understandable.. its nice to stop and say hi.. but to be hugging and loving up on your loved ones while people are dining is ridiculous. Someone else should have taken care of her family. read more

Tony and I stopped in Mt Airy, NC on the way home from SC. We decided to eat at Dodge City Steakhose. We were greeted immediately and seated in a booth at the windows. Tony ordered a PBR in a bottle and I went with Unsweetened Tea with lemon & lime. We decided on the special, 2-10 oz New York Strips with choice of 2 sides so we both went with Baked Sweet Potatoes and Mac n' Cheese and Dinner Rolls. The restaurant was very average. I had a 1/2 rack of baby back ribs. My man had the grilled mahi-mahi. His son ordered the grilled chicken off the Kid's Menu. My ribs were good but they needed a lot more sauce. I ordered a side of sauce but the side was so small (and the small cup was only half filled) that I had to order another side of sauce. My man's fish was good but not great. Too overdone. His son is not a picky eater and he did not like the macNcheese and he said the chicken was just ok. Our meal took over an our to arrive. We were in Mt Airy for a family funeral and were looking for a place for dinner where we could watch football. Our server, Davin, was the best part of our visit! He was very friendly and cheerful in spite of all the questions and missing food items. That was the best part of our visit. They seated us in front of a big screen tv but couldn't find the remote or it didn't work. Of the 4 steaks we ordered, only 2 were cooked as ordered. 2 of the 3 chicken dishes were overcooked and dry. We tried to order 3 different red wines and they were out of each one. We ordered sautéed mushrooms and they didn't come until almost the end of our meal. The menu states to ask about their gluten free menu but apparently they don't have one!! They did have some interesting sounding cocktails but there were no descriptions for them. The rolls and cinnamon butter were good but that's not enough to bring us back to this restaurant! I had the Deputy Marshall Steak Sizzler ($16.49). I asked for the steak to be cook medium, and there was no pink in the middle. Steak was fairly tender, but not a lot of taste. This steak actually comes with a salad (why don't the other steaks have the option to get a salad?), and some thin fried potatoes with green peppers & onions sizzling in the pan with the steak. My wife and I was traveling through Mt. Airy N.C. and decided to eat at the Dodge City Steak House. Our waitress was fast and polite and served us well. The food was just okay. My wife ordered breaded shrimp and received grilled shrimp and I had the hamburger steak ordered medium and received well done. The dish of corn I received was very dry and tasteless. This was enough to tell us not to come back again. Paying was a problem and the manager had no clue as to the rules from Visa and other credit cards. I handed my "DEBIT" card to the waitress and stated I gave her a debit card and the surcharge should be removed. Waitress stated all credit cards are subject to the surcharge and I told her not "DEBIT" cards or "GIFT" cards as they are the same as cash. The waitress brought the manager over and Ms. Personality " stated that anything she has to put through her credit card reader has to be given a surcharge. After looking this up on line on the VISA web site, they show the do's and don'ts of credit card handling and obviously this manager needs some training. Mt. Airy, N.C. should look into this situation and do a better inspection of this place and its over charging! read more

After being seated by hostess was immediately greeted by the waitress (Mâché, is her name). Full order was placed at initial contact, drink was quickly bought out with appetizer following not too far behind. Main meal wasn't too far back! Drink: Water extra lemon Appetizer: blooming onion Main meal: Full rack(well) with veggies and slaw. Server was very prompt and did keep my glass full. I have been here 4 times The first was the week before Mother's Day, Mother' Day, Wednesday after Mother's Day and Father' Day. The place had some messy tables; understand due to a holiday. The first 3 times were good and l enjoyed my steak. Father's Day, they were busy and the service was a little disorganized. I understand, being l have worked in this business in the past. We are local. We ate here a few months ago and the food came out wrong (a sirloin for a ribeye) and the waitress argued that it was a ribeye, I just gave up and kept it. Even at its best it was not cooked well and was bland. New sign recently "Under new management" so we decided to try again (7/16/25 @ 6:30 PM). New "manager" sat at a table on his phone not participating with restaurant operations. They were not busy at all, maybe 12 customers in the place total. Had to wait 5 minutes to be seated. The waitress was unorganized, struggling and running around all over the place (maybe she was new?) Another 10 minutes to get our drink orders, another 5 minutes to get 2 iced teas. Then the order, kept having to repeat and she even came back a couple of times to make sure she wrote it down right. The manager was just 5 feet away by the way and didn't even look up. The food came out 25 minutes later. On top of the order being wrong, my wife's burger was dripping blood. The waitress took it back. I'm sitting there looking at my wife whose order isn't there. Another 20 minutes and her burger comes out. Still dressed completely wrong so we just asked for a to go box, paid up and left. The manager never said a word, never acknowledged anything or anybody. You are not there to eat during the dinner hours! It was over an hour before we got our meals. We waited through the local news, national news and finally at the beginning of Vanna turning letters we got our meals! Hubby had chicken tenders and two scoops of garlic mashed potatoes and it was cold potatoes and hot tenders. I really should have taken a picture of my plate. No, I was not expecting five star plating but seriously it looked like a pissed off mom had thrown it together! I had pork tenderloin with apple bacon chutney with broccoli and coleslaw the broccoli was cold and the pork was overcooked and crunchy in places. The coleslaw was so wet it was doing the backstroke across my plate. The bright spot was the apple bacon chutney. It was delicious. It's been a while since I've been here...maybe a year. They offer a great variety of food options and I think they have the best ribs around. Today I ordered the mahi-mahi with mashed potatoes and southern green beans. My husband had his typical hamburger and fries. First let me say that our waitress was very sweet and helpful. She brought out a basket of rolls and they were not hot but it was also mid afternoon so I assume they don't start cooking fresh ones until 5-ish. The ice tea was not good so I asked to switch it out for a Pepsi, which she did. I thought the wait for our food was a little longer than expected since there were very few folks there. The food came and it was no where close to being hot and the potatoes were way too salty for my taste. I felt $16.49 for the lunch was way too much to settle for that. I asked the waitress how long it had been sitting in the kitchen. She was very accommodating and took the meal back and returned in a few minutes with a hot meal and replaced the potatoes with seasonal veggies. Once that was corrected I enjoyed the food. The beans reminded me of my grandmother's beans. She brought the check and I noticed that she had comped the beverages, which was very nice. read more

Not busy at all and a 45 minute wait for a burger and southwest chicken. Not the first time and always with an excuse.

A friend and I came to eat dinner here today. He got the country fried steak and I got the lemon pepper grilled chicken. Both dishes were absolutely amazing. The quality of the food far exceeded our expectations. The chicken was tender and full of flavor. To top it all off the service was great. We will definitely be back to try out the steaks! read more

After reading so many bad reviews I was nervous but wanted to give this a place a try. We went for a late lunch early dinner and only a few tables were there. We had a wonderful sweet waitress who stayed on top of drinks and any of our other needs. The cheese fries were amazing! The blooming onion thing was good as well. The steak was not bad just not the best but they know how to cook it well done without burning it. The mashed potatoes are really good and the southern corn was good as well. I highly recommend the purple rain drink it was wonderful. They were out of quite a few sides but at this point in life what places aren't out of something? Such a neat idea with absolutely no execution...ordered the 2 for $30 special. We both got the chopped steak with baked potatoes (I got coleslaw and hubby got corn as the 2nd side) and onion petals for an app. Four hot rolls and cinnamon butter came out. Then the onion petals. They were good. Then...the meal came out. I was supposed to have peppers, onions & mushrooms with my chopped steak. I got onions and about 3 slices of mushrooms. Hubby's was supposed to be peppers & mushrooms and gravy on the side. He got mushrooms and gravy. Both baked potatoes were cold and hard (you know, like they were several days old and microwaved). He said his corn tasted (and looked) as if it was cooked several days ago. After a few minutes, I realized my coleslaw was missing. Well, so was the server! I was nearly finished eating before she came around and I asked for the slaw. It came out in a styrofoam container. Now, y'all, this is supposed to be a STEAK HOUSE. I don't expect styrofoam at a steak house. Next we asked for the check. I had seen on the door there is a 1.69% service charge for using cards. So I paid the $32.10 bill with 2 $20 (server asked if i needed change! Heck yea, with the service we got, you're expecting an $8.00, over 25%, tip on a $30 meal?), expecting $7.90 in change. All that was brought back was $7.00. Apparently the server needed the 90 cents more than I did. Cannot recommend this place! read more

This place is still really new and it has a lot of kinks to work out still, but I'm really hopeful. The decor is overall very family friendly and some problems such as the sticky peeling tables are in the process of being fixed. Our waitress was very attentive and stayed on top of refills, updates, and check ins with us, but sadly she forgot to put our food order in after our appatizer and our lunch took about 90 minutes start to finish. We watched 3 or 4 other tables come in, eat, and leave all before us, so if you're on a tight lunch schedule, this may not be the best choice. We had the spinach and artichoke dip as an appatizer and it was a little bland and watery for my taste and the chips definitely needed some salt, so we'll likely skip it next time and try something different. We also got complimentary rolls and honey butter which I am actually super excited about. My mother got a classic cheeseburger and fries which she upgraded to bacon cheese fries, and if you like a big burger you'll definitely enjoy these. It should also be noted you /get/ what you ask for when it comes to the doneness and cook of your meat. The fries don't get overly greasy with the cheese and bacon which is nice, but they sadly got over seasoned and not quite done as they weren't at all crisp. I got a basic garden salad because vegetarian options are limited and it was boring, but fine. I also got a baked potato with cheese and sour cream which would have been nice, but I found a piece of bacon on my potato under the cheese so I had to send it back. Overall the prices are really reasonable, my salad and potato were only $7-8 and the burger was only $10. Aside from the little slip-ups with service and food preparation, we enjoyed our meal, and I'm looking forward to coming back in the future when they work some of those kinks worked out. read more

While we were greeted, sat and our order taken quickly, that's where it ends. To order a $32 ribeye and not be able to cut it, shows this isn't a good steakhouse. Went today for Father's Day had to wait 5 minutes no big deal. Finally got seated our waitress git our drinks waited 10 minutes for that until another waitress come by and ask if somebody had waited on us we said yes she went to go check she said don't know where our waitress went so she helped us she took our order to. Finally our waitress showed up and said do we need anything. I think we seen our waitress maybe 3 times out of the 2 hours there. My wife and I went to this steakhouse and we both had the beef tips with baked potato and baked sweet potato. My wife had rice pilaf and I had cole slaw. I will say that I didn't eat the slaw but everyone makes slaw different and I have been to many restaurants where I didn't like the slaw. Tonya was our server and she was great . With exception to the slaw everything was great. We also had a total of four drinks and they were very good also. When we return we will ask for Tonya. I don't think this place deserves any bad reviews but I have gone to restaurants that friends rave about and I would never go back. It all depends on who your server is and who is cooking. read more

I read the reviews before I went and I should have listened to the lower rating reviews. I will be surprised if this place stays in business. The service was quick and the wait staff was friendly. The appetizers were good. We got the tumbleweed (Blooomin Onion) It was cooked perfectly and not greasy. The salads were ok mostly iceberg lettuce, nothing special or even great. The entrees were horrible. I got the southwestern chicken, it was so overcooked it was difficult to cut with a steak knife and had absolutely no flavor and the bacon that was supposed to go on top was raw. My husband got the trio of ribs, shrimp, and chicken and he had the same problem. The meat was so tough you could barely cut it let alone eat it. The shrimp was just nasty and the ribs were very dry. My mom and step-dad said the same about their food. One got the ribs and the other got the meatloaf both were very dry and had no flavor. Save the $100 and go somewhere else. Was really great when it first opened, but has declined to the point that we no longer will visit. We always have great luck with the Elkin restaurant, but it is a hike for us. we usually go in to eat here and it's always been perfection. well we decided we wanted a good steak but not feeling up to go out. so we ordered for pick up. we won't do that again. my husband ordered the miss kitty filet, medium rare... Mid can't even begin to describe my experience because it was sub mid. My tumbleweed onion was undercooked and overcooked in all the wrong places. My chopped steak was made with zero love. Whatever gravy juice they thrust upon it was so awful I had to return to the tumbleweed onion to get the taste out of my mouth. My corn was cold the potatoes were cold and tasted as if they were on the last day of microwave duty before being thrown out. The whole experience was insufferable. My grandmother found an eyelash in her bread. And I had to spit out a hair after eating the tumbleweed. My mother and sister practically begged to receive an alcoholic beverage but were basically told to piss off in a kind way by our 18 year old man child of a waiter.
