The FSM location is in an historic building just off the main drag. Inside has even more character than outside. I give it 5 stars for the meat; I had the 11 oz filet and it was seriously the BEST filet I have ever eaten; the doneness was perfectly medium rare. I chose the corn crab bisque to start which was chock full of both, light and creamy. Every steak comes with a salad and a side. I chose the house dressing for the salad - salad is not their strong suit. I also chose the green beans; those were a big disappointment ... I'm sure they came out of a can. My colleagues had the fries for a side; the fries are ROCKSTAR! Each dinner also comes with sauteed mushrooms and spoon bread. The spoon bread was light and delicious, the mushrooms were just button mushrooms, but went with the steaks very well! This was by far one of the greatest steaks I've ever consumed. I had the filet mignon and it was cooked so well and was extremely flavorful. The only thing I didn't care for was the side salad (very basic and served in a cheap bowl) and the red potatoes (pretty dry and not very flavorful). As an appetizer, we ordered the tamales (which I found really awkward to have as an option), but they were suprisingly good. They were served with a bowl of a chili-like sauce to put on top. They are made pretty small (not normal-sized tamales), so don't worry about getting too full. Also, during the dinner, we were served these small, muffin-like rolls that were AMAZING, especially when paired with honey. The prices were a little high, but for the quality of steak, I can somewhat understand. I just wish the sides served with the meal were a little higher quality. read more

Not bad for the price, but not great either. Everything is a la carte; want a potato? $3.50, etc. Steaks are very large, so sharing is basically a must. Decently flavorful, it seems like their meat is often dry... perhaps due to the large portions, but overall never really had a bad experience. Absolutely superb biscuits served alongside each meal. I work for a large company and travel often for work to several major cities. Imagine my surprise when I tried Doe's in Arkansas' River Valley - this is seriously one of the two best steak places I have ever been. The atmosphere is unique, being in a very old building that lends to an enjoyable eating experience. The food, however, is simply amazing and you won't be disappointed with any of the steaks. I usually order the filet mignon and, even though it's served without the fancy accompaniments found at other steak places, you'll walk away looking forward to eating here again. In addition to that, I think a good measure of a restaurant is what they do when things don't go according to plan in addition to the "usual experience." In one visit, I had a food quality issue but the staff were very apologetic, made it right and have gone out of their way to make sure every visit since then has been excellent. I highly, highly recommend Doe's. Don't miss out and the price of the steak is WELL worth the quality that you'll get. read more

What an amazing place to eat. If you enjoy history this will be an gteat place for you to try. This building was an old brewery from the early 1940's made out of limestone. Please note PLEASE bring you appetite, the steaks starts at 2 lbs... Great wine and beer selection, steak was cooked perfectly can tell it was aged and cut by people that know what they are doing. Tried this out last night it was amazing! Steak was mouthwatering. Fried biscuits, salad and potatoes we're all good as well. Fantastic environment and really neat story to the building. We have ate at Doe's twice this month and it was beyond what we expected the first time was a Birthday dinner for my husband and the second time it was us and six kids for the oldest boy coming home for Christmas from the Navy. We didn't leave hungry and we had dessert too. read more

Wow. This restaurant really rocks. It's the only reason to visit Fort Smith, Arkansas, as the town has very little else to offer. There is a long history to this steak restaurant (with several other locations in the south including Arkansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma) dating back to the 40's when it was founded in Mississippi by Dominik ("Doe") Signa and his wife Mamie. The dining room is located a level down from street level in an old cellar; it's hip, intimate and casual and is bursting with a great vibe and energy as the guests happily devour their steaks. At the time of our meal the room was filled primarily with men in large groups. The menu is brilliantly simple and the steaks the best we have ever had and we have had steaks all over the world, including in Madrid, Spain and London, England, as well as in many of the cattle states in the U.S. as well, the wine list is impressive with many great wines making it comparable to restaurants in major cosmopolitan cities. The only change we would suggest to the owners is to provide cloth napkins and Chiloweth place mats for the table. Paper napkins detract from the experience. Highly recommended. read more

A couple of friends and I decided we wanted a steak dinner. At first we thought we had gotten lost because Doe's is off the main drag. What a place! First off it's on the national historic registry. The beer cellar is an awesome vibe but it gets loud with more than a couple tables. Kudos to the bartender. We tried a couple of cocktails and there are some great flavor combinations. The wine list is comprehensive but pricey typical of most restaurants. The steaks are truly amazing. I had the ribeye and it was an amazing bone in cut of meat. The doneness was spot on. The flavor was outstanding and it truly ranks as one of the top steaks I've had in a long time. My only critique concerns the sides. The "southern" green beans were bland. The salad was decent. My expectation of sides from a steakhouse is simply a higher bar. read more

There is no better beef around town. Period. As a former employee, do yourself a favor and don't order the sirloin- it's tough and cheap. The markup on them is ridiculous. The ribeye is a little more expensive per pound but undoubtedly worth it. The filets are so tender you hardly have to chew them (rare). Also, don't order anything cooked more than medium... Otherwise you're ruining the meat. Would have been 5/5 if the price was a bit lower. Steaks are thick and well marbled. These guys know how to cook to order. One can order tamales as a appetizer, very delicious. Very nice beer selections. Love the ambiance character and charm of the restaurant, being in an old brewery. The lower level dining room is an amazing setting. Great wine list with generous pours. Definitely plan to split a steak, there is a minimum poundage in place for most cuts. My Porterhouse was cooked perfectly when requested medium. The boiled potatoes were awesome when butter and pepper were added. I also sampled the broiled shrimp from a fellow diners plate and they were well seasoned and cooked just right. June 21 2019 was our 20th anniversary. We had been in Fayetteville earlier in the day and could have eaten at the Doe's there but I wanted to support local business so we opted for the Ft. Smith Doe's. On our arrival we were told that they were very busy but were given our choice of several tables. After being seated the waitress swiftly came and took our order. So far so good. I felt a bit hot but thought it was just me and that I had just not cooled down yet after coming inside from the 93 degree heat of the day. Turns out that was not the problem. Our food arrived swiftly. Our waitress never made comment on the heat but I overheard a woman at the next table saying that she had been told by her waiter that the A/C was out. Since our dinner had already been served to us we did not feel that we could walk away without being responsible for paying for the meal. The rest of the meal was hellish as we shared the dining area with an additional 20 people and a babe in arms as I am fairly certain that the temperature in the dining room was at least as high if not higher than it was outside. The mother of the baby was wiping the child's head with a damp napkin in an attempt to cool it down but she eventually had to go outside to accomplish this goal. The waitress crazily asked us if we had left room for dessert as if there were nothing wrong and my husband and I were not drenched in sweat. I could not disguise my desire to be out of the Doe's hotbox in my reply to her. As we left we could see that the staff continued to bring more customers into the restaurant which they knew to be uncomfortably hot. A local Vietnamese restaurant we frequent had their A/C go out and at least that owner had the good grace to post a notice on her door so that her customers could make and informed decision. If profit is so important to the management of Doe's that they would not give their patrons the opportunity to know that they will be eating in intense heat then I very much wonder what other corners and economies they are willing to make. When you are dropping nearly a hundred dollars for a meal for two one would expect not to eat that meal in temperatures you could expect at the local drive through Sonic. I know that this will be our last trip to the Ft. Smith Doe's as Fayetteville is not that far. Listening to the comments of other diners leaving at the same time we were I think that we will not be the only ones. read more

2nd visit, just as good as the 1st The food is outstanding for being in Arkansas. The food prices are high like in Chicago and Los Angeles, but it's more like a truck stop dinner inside. Shame that the people in Arkansas don't have the manners or class in removing hats in a building, especially when in a restaurant. Jake the manager stopped at our table several times checking on us to make sure everything was good, just as if in his own house. Wife ordered the rib-eye, when it was served it's huge, big enough to feed a small village and cooked perfect.
